Ah, Kaionar - the cesspool for crooks and wicked individuals, and a shining city for the wealthy to exploit.

Alec's opinions of the city were kept to himself for now. The well-dressed, skinny man was browsing the marketplace. Zold trusted very few people with anything... to say that Zold "Trusted" Alec was an exaggeration. To be more accurate, Zold merely trusted his own ability to keep people in line, which is why Alec was "trusted" with the menial chore of going into town to listen for gossip. Well, "officially" to buy household necessities and to look for exotic knick-knacks, but without fail, Zold always asked about what people were talking about, and he seemed more appeased when Alec came back with more information.

So, the Aristocrat-looking-fellow was about, examining the best fruits, chatting with everybody, keeping an eye out for anybody who looked suspicious or out of place or lost - someone who might bring news of the world outside this corrupt little black spot.

Sadly being the tallest person in the marketplace, man or woman, drew unwanted attention. Thankfully keeping unconcealed weapons sent the proper message and she was given room to move. She wandered up to a prissy looking aristocrat and lightly tapped his shoulder. "Excuse me but I've lost a friend of mine, she's got black hair and grey eyes, loves bright colors? You seen her around here anywhere?" The answer was not likely to be one she'd be happy with, but it was worth a shot.

As she looked around she saw little hope of finding Silence here, or any news of her at all unless she'd been killed, which was worse news than she could ever want. It made her slightly nervous but she hardly let it show. "My name is Geronimo, what might yours be good sir?" she asked trying to at least keep his attention for a nanosecond. She knew aristocrats weren't the kind of people to entertain rabble for long, perhaps that might not work too well since she wasn't dressed up properly.

Alec turned to the - Oh, this person was quite tall. He took a mild double-take when it took him a second to realize eye-contact was somewhat higher than he expected. He nodded as she listened to her description - an attentive nod, as opposed to an affirmative nod. He placed his hand across his mouth and thought long and hard about it, racking his memory.

"Perhaps," he said, in answer. "That could be a number of people. I'm afraid I've spent many days inside, but...." He closed his eyes and he focused. "I did see a woman that may have matched that description. She had dark hair, I didn't see her eyes, but she was wearing particularly bright clothes. That's what caught my attention. I didn't speak to her, I'm afraid, but it was only ... " Shoot, was it days ago, or weeks? The glimpse had been so brief, he had banished i from his memory. "recently."

"Oh, ah, my name is Alec Sterling. Did you just travel into town?"

He was surprisingly attentive. He didn't talk down to her like an aristocrat, or put on an air of repulsion for the lower-class.

"Yes I did actually, been from Golam to Racksom to here in a matter of weeks. Hoped to find her here, she means quite a lot to me. Do you have any idea where she might've gone...?" The last question was more of a shot in the dark. From the way it sounded, he didn't look like he'd have much clue at all. "I'm Geronimo Bloodmace, pleasure to meet you." Most people who were older and knew anything about weapons knew the Bloodmace family somehow. There were family records for her going back many generations on both sides.

"So, Alec, do you know anyone who might know where she went?" Now came the anxiety. What happened to her after she vanished?! Best not to dwell on it, she decided. "Is there anything you'd like some help with? Shopping in places like this gets strenuous if you've a long list." Even if she couldn't further her own goal, she could at least help someone else. This skinny man didn't look like he could carry a feather quill much less a box of supplies.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Bloodmace." He gave a polite little bow. If the name was familiar to him, he didn't let on.

"Well..." He rubbed his chin dubiously, teetering a bit. "I don't know where she might have gone," He said honestly. "My employer, however, I believe he can scry." He hesitated, looking a bit reluctant to have mentioned that. He went on, still looking somewhat on the edge about something. "But I'd ... Actually, there is someone who I am looking for, but I'd rather not let my employer know. If you'd like, sir, you can help me carry what I've purchased and we could speak to my employer about the person who you're looking for." He gathered up one basked in his hand, and gestured to the other one, the one full of bread and the likes. "Before we go, though... I don't suppose you've seen a lad, about this tall-" he gestured to about below his chest to indicate his height, "-and otherwise resembles me, but with darker hair?"

"I'm sorry I haven't seen him, but I'll gladly carry the box." she responded as she lifted it off the ground like it was nothing. "Shall we be off to see your employer, then?" Even though she was at a loss for what to really do while she was here, she did have a few bartering chips up her sleeve if she needed to use them. "Who is your employer...?" She ran into several people along her way and got annoyed to the point of shouting at an idiot butcher and nearly kicking him across the street.

"Inconsiderate. . ." she snarled to herself. At that rate she'd be an angry wreck by the time she got to see this man, but that wasn't exactly the best first impression for her. "Sorry, Alec, I'm not used to so many people. If I get peeved that's why." The heat was a welcome relief to the stress of the crowded streets, but anxiety was still a problem. "What's he like?" she asked.

Alec's shoulders slumped with disappointment as she indicated that she had not seen the lad.

Alec shot her a friendly smile. "Oh, no, that's fine." He seemed like the sweetest of people, really, in spite of his aristocratic garb. "My Employer is Zold Grim-- Er, De L'aube. Zold Grim-De L'aube." He gave her a sheepish chuckle, embarrassed at his obvious blunder. "Sorry, I mean Zold De L'aube. That's what he prefers to go by," he explained before he could be called out on it. "I forget that sometimes."

"In truth," he said, "I'm not overly familiar with crowded cities either. I've been living as a hermit for too long."

He led her quite a ways, through the crowded market-place, and to a much higher-class part of the city. They began to pass increasingly more fancy houses - Bigger, more decorated, with larger yards, and the impressiveness just increased as they went. the crowds were much sparser here, and consisted mostly of passer-bys, since there were no stores to stop or shop in now. He led her up to a mansion, and stopped outside of it.

"This is it," he said. "Before we go inside, are you certain you want to come with me?" he asked. "I do believe that he can help you find your friend, but be warned, he is a ritual-user."

Alec tapped his toe in front of the gate, showing some hard-to-spot runes in the ground. If Geronimo looked hard, she'd see that the runes went into some bushes that circled the entire property. "This is harmless, for the most part, but it is still a spell. This, in particular, from what I can tell, seems to just decrease people's desire to pick a fight once they enter," he explained. "I think it's just a failsafe to make sure people don't attempt to storm his home and kill him," Alec said. "But I've seen people start fights in here anyway, so It won't turn you into a vegetable, I promise."

"Takes a lot to paralyze me, you'd be surprised." she muttered. "Not many people think to cross me either. Your master's a cautious and paranoid man I see. . " she remarked. "If something's bothering me I'm not one to hide it. You'll know when I think something's going wrong, fair warning." Her family wasn't all that religious, but even on the religious subject things were touch and go. Looking at the house it seemed rather drab, in her opinion at least. "Doesn't have much sense as a decorator." Once at the door she shifted the box in her hands and tried to relax as much as possible.

For the first time it occurred to her that she'd left Orran back in Golam, and she wondered how he was doing. "What's the city like for the most part? Thieves, cutthroats, and liars?" If that was the case it didn't seem like she'd have much issue around there; nobody dared to even look at her half the time. "The poorer districts of town look a lot worse for wear, do the leaders of this city not care about their people...?"

"Drab?" Alec asked, his eyebrows going up in surprise. "If you say so. Please excuse me." He shifted his own basket of goods. His demeanor changed just a bit, as if he was getting ready for something. He smoothed himself out, exhaled with a deep sigh, popped his neck, and then stood a bit straighter, his step and posture now matching his fancy outfit.

"The city is in fine repair. The thieves, Cutthroats, and liars have cushy lives, for the most part. It seems, by and large, that's the way people excel here. There are some leaders who do care, but the balance of power is.... well... not actually particularly well balanced."

He opened the door for Geronimo.

Once they were over the runes, the "spell" wasn't easily noticeable. The easiest way to describe it would be like entering a zone of Laziness. People affected by it still had all their cognitive power, all their physical prowess, and all their alertness... but suddenly, a lot of things just seemed like a waste of time or effort, or far too much of a pain. Specifically, arguing, raising your voice, or getting into a physical altercation. These things seemed... ridiculously unnecessary. But, like all naturally-occurring laziness, this could be overcome with enough motivation or willpower. It just took more motivation and willpower than usual, like extreme emotions or self-defense.

It was fancy enough inside, really- Brocaded furniture, velvet curtains, polished oak wood, fancy lamp fixtures, etc.. And there were runes everywhere. They were hard to notice at first (as they weren't just scrawled on things in chalk). They were all incorporated into the design of where they were. Certain chairs had embroidered designs, with runes on them - pieces of art were placed about the walls, arranged in certain ways... although it was elegant and fancy, the arrangement of the large home made it seem more cluttered than clean, in spite of all the shininess.

There was a man at a table as they entered. Unlike his servant Alec, this man was tall, broad-shouldered, and intimidating. He seemed to be about Alec's age - forty-ish - but his hair was all white as if he were slightly older. He had twinkling eyes and a flat smile.

"Announcing Sir Bloodmace," Alec said as he entered the home.

"Sir Bloodmace?" The other said. "I didn't realize they had a son..." He eyed Geronimo and stood from whatever he was studying. "And what, sir, may I ask is the reason for your visit?"

Upon seeing Zold she smiled widely. "You seem to be a bit out of the loop, he has ten children and I am the fifth, rather the first by his second wife. My name is Geronimo, it's a pleasure to meet you. As for my reasons, I hear you can help me find someone very precious to me. Her name is Revena erm. . .Silence. . .Firenza. She's about five and a half feet tall with long black hair and silver-grey eyes. I heard rumors that she's been here recently so I intend to exploit that knowledge to its full extent. That and Alec didn't look like he could carry all these supplies by himself so I offered to help."

"Might I ask how you know my father?" she inquired upon glancing around the room and debating whether or not to sit somewhere. "I assume you've a decent position of power, seeing as you live in such a lavish, albeit a bit. . .bland. . .house." Seemed that the taste of past generations wasn't exactly very nice. Bloodmace Hall wasn't exactly much better, but that was because none of her siblings had had the chance to redecorate in recent years.

"Out of the loop? Perhaps." Zold smiled politely and waved Alec away. Alec bowed and removed himself very formally. "Of course he can't, the poor man never ate enough meat, it seems."

Zold took a minute to think about what he DID know of the family. Mostly that they were obscenely wealthy. He didn't even bat an eye at the insult towards his choice of decor. "Well, of course it's a little low-key," he said smoothly to agree with her. "As a family man, I have enough Chaos in my life that any extra excitement isn't for me," he said casually, smoothly. "I don't believe I ever met your father personally, otherwise he would have updated me on family matters. But, you know, people of high standing must try to keep up with one another to not show up to a social gathering with old information. It's considered rude and ... well, gauche, to be frank, so I'm glad you were able to correct me." He gave her another chipper smile.

"In fact, I might be able to find your friend," he said. "I have no specialty in my magic... no one thing that I excel at, but rather, I can perform a number of different feats, with enough time. I do have a certain formula that I should be able to use to track. I have a special study for this... come along." He grabbed a quill pen and parchment and began down a hallway. "Do you have any possession of hers that she may have touched? Anything that she used to own, for instance?"

The last question made her cringe. "I last saw her seven years ago, even if I had kept a possession of hers I wouldn't have it now. I'm not too big on magic and most things to do with it to be honest. I do however have something that I know she wanted desperately when we were young." Obviously she was a skeptic, her line of work required skill and discipline. Taking the easy way out wasn't an option for her. "It was a colorful glass ball I'd made for her. I'd given it to her for her birthday, but she didn't have it very long before she disappeared. Found it a short while later among the rubble that used to be her house."

The only reason she still had it was because when she'd made it, it was supposed to just sit on a shelf in her own room. It was when she was taking it home that Silence had expressed interest in it. Whatever the girl wanted, Geromino did her best to get it for her. The raven haired girl had come from a somewhat well-off household, but it was apparent that she wasn't at all happy and to a point she wasn't taken care of. Everyone who didn't know Ger was a girl thought that they made a sweet couple as kids, but everyone that did know saw a relationship more akin to siblings than sweethearts. Silence had been the little sister that she'd always wanted.

"Glass, 'ey?" He took the glass ball and examined it. "Good for this type of thing. Glass... Water... Crystal... Very transparent things. These kinds of components make an excellent scrying spell."

He passed Alec in the hall, and waved to him in passing. "Oh, Alec, bring some hot water down to the spellroom for tea, would you?" Alec nodded, but Zold really didn't care to wait for a reply, he just kept going. He led her down into what looked like a wine-cellar... but... but definitely not used for storing wine. At least, not anymore. There was a much more obvious ritual-circle around the perimeter of the room, glowing with pale, green light, and what looked like a sacrificial altar in the center of it ... but it was actually being used as a table right now, with papers. These were the most Central bits, but there were also tables and shelves of papers, envelopes, packages, pouches, jars, and so on. Lots of papers and lots of books. Lastly, and the most obvious and jarring thing were statues. Kind of. Large, stone, men-shaped things with loose features. There seemed to be a back corner that went off somewhere else, and a faint smell of decay came from that corner. She wasn't going to want to go back there.

Anyhow, Zold immediately started preparing things. He grabbed a dowsing crystal and a map and put it on the "table" in the middle of the room, and began scrying runes around it. He divided the ritual circle with a triangle in the middle of it, and on each corner of the Triangle, he wrote one of the names that Geronimo had used to name her friend. Around the circle, he placed different types of crystals near each rune. The circle glowed!

He didn't move the Dowsing crystal over the map himself. Instead, he seemed to have a little hook that he made for this very purpose. He hung the crystal on the hook and let it do his dirty work for him.

Meanwhile, with the glass ball, he tossed it far too recklessly into the Cauldron, but fortunately, it landed in liquid.

If Geronimo looked into the Cauldron, it looked like it was filled with mercury, with a liquid crystal layer ontop of it. The glass marble found its way between the layers. He had concocted a custom lid for the cauldron - it wasn't a lid as much as it was a stand to rest a Crystal Ball over the Cauldron.

The crystal ball slowly started to glow, and it began to fill with color. A voice murmured out faintly from the crystal. ". . .Rhys. . .you'll pay for this. . .I swear. . ." it sounded dazed, like it was drugged.

Zold peered at the Crystal. "It seems as though she was injured recently... But alive, she is." More bright colors flashed, and Zold looked surprised. Then he laughed. "Well! I was wondering where he got off to," He said casually, as an aside.

While he was focusing on the crystal ball, the Crystal over the map began to tremble and pull in a specific direction. It started pointing Northwest... Defying at least some gravity, like a new gravity was pulling at it from the North-west direction.

Ger let out a frustrated groan and dragged her hand down her face. "And to think I was just IN Golam not too long ago. . .Ah well, at least I know to start heading that way again. Thank you." At that point she fell to her knees with a heavy sigh. "Can't believe she's still alive after all this time." That was a ton of bricks dropped right on her head; although she was happy as could be expected, she had to wonder what Silence had become in that time. Was she still the same sweet little awkward girl that Ger had adopted as a sister?

"I'll at least be in town until tomorrow though. Do you know of anywhere that I might be able to stay?" Heaven forbid she actually stay with HIM, that was just too much to ask after what he'd just done for her. It seemed more that she preferred Alec to this man, this man was a pompous sort, whereas his servant was just a person who thought he was no better/no worse than the man next to him. For once she looked around and was alarmed. "Dare I ask what the smell of decay is from?"

Speaking of Alec, at this point, he opened the door that led him down to meet the other two. As per Zold's request, he was carrying a silver tray, with a silver tea--pot, and two tea-cups with saucers, each filled with clear hot water, steam rising from ihem both decorated ceramic cups. Alec paused like he was about to ask something, but Zold dismissed him with a wave of his hand. Alec bowed once again, and departed without a word.

Zold began to rumage around for - well, probably tea bags. This place seemed to have enough weird things that it probably had tea-bags too. It was a very ecclectic room, in comparison to the expensive house that it belonged to. "You'll be looking for her very soon then, hmm?" He asked. "Well, if you'd like, I do have plenty of spare rooms here. They're cozy enough, for your taste, I'm sure, but quite comfortable no less. Besides, it is nice to hear about things from what's going on outside the city. I hardly get as much news as it as I'd like" He explained.

He produced two tea bags from different placed. He put a tea-bag in one of the cups, and then moved that cup and saucer across the table, setting it in front of Geronimo, casually interrupting the dowsing session (that was still pointing northwest). "Excuse me just a moment." He took a few minutes to re-organize some things, and revealed two chairs amidst the mystical rubble. He set one chair by Geronimo. "There, my apologies, I should have gotten that out sooner." He sat on the other chair, and began to steep his own tea. "I hope you like it," he said, nodding to her cup. "Please try some and tell me what you think. It's a mix I came up with myself." He smiled pleasantly and sipped his.

"besides," he added, "You must be tired from all the travelling you've done. It would be absolutely atrocious of me to not offer my home to such a weary traveller as yourself. I have beds already made for just such an occasion."

He paused as she asked about the smell. Then he smiled. "No," he said simply. "You probably shouldn't dare to do so. I certainly wouldn't dare anybody to do so."

At that point it seemed like the path of least resistance, and the least likely to end with her missing her money in the morning. "Very well, I'll stay the night here. As for news; the way I get mine is from one of my older brothers who works as a merchant in Yarrowitz. Seems a small portion of dragons are on the offensive and trying to reclaim the island. Trade routes are a jumbled mess because of it, and who knows how long Bolarf can last with the Rebels to the south and the dragons to the north. So far the only places in danger are Golam, Bolarf, and Yarrowitz."

After a few sips of tea, and tongue-burnings from being impatient, she set the cup and saucer down. "Thus far I've heard little news about what the High Council is going to do about these threats. It's less than unhelpful that rumors are flying about that the Council has yet to pull an army together as well. Bunch of ninnies with no idea what they're doing. Any interesting or useful information floating about in this city?" she inquired taking a small sip of her tea.

Zold listened to the news with a relaxed demeanor, drinking his tea as well. "The council has seemed rather flakey lately, haven't they?" He said, echoing her opinion. "Such a shame. It rather feels like the people are having to defend themselves, doesn't it?" He asked, sipping his tea as well. "But that's often the case with people in power. As soon as they're given the power to protect, they spend it protecting their power. Such is the way of human nature, I suppose. Perhaps Dragons feel the same about power... they want it to abuse, not to protect."

"There's not so much news in the city worthwhile... Some families are being found out that they're involved in some scandal, and reputation is lost and all that good nonsense, but I'd hardly consider that 'news', here; it's simply business as usual it seems."

He glanced down at the map. "Now that you know where she is, are you going to go after her? Who was she, anyway? To you? A lover...?" He pressed with a friendly smile.

"You know," He added, "You have been travelling quite a ways, haven't you? If you'd like, perhaps you should retire sooner, rather than later," he hinted, watching her closely.

Gradually she began feeling dazed but still managed coherent speech. "No, no, she wasn't a lover. She's the little sister I always wanted and more, and because of that she means the absolute world to me. To be honest any man should be so lucky as to be in her good graces, she was a wonderful girl. Yes, starting tomorrow morning I'm heading back home to see if I can find her." It wasn't long after her statement that she started to feel really dizzy. "You might be right, sleep sounds like a good idea." She got herself to her feet and stumbled a bit from her skewed vision, only to sit back down.

"Must need sleep sooner than I thought." Again she tried to stand, but this time more slowly, and succeeded. "If someone would be so kind as to point me in the right direction, please?" she asked with her speech a little slurred. Not too long after the slurring came her falling to the ground and muttering, "Momma, I don't want to wear a pink dress, please don't make me wear it. . ."

"Oh my, you ARE sleepy!" Zold said with a 'surprised' chuckle. He didn't bother moving as she stumbled and fell, the feigned surprise vanishing and turning into his usual bored expression. He finished his tea off. He snapped three times, and called out for Alec, summoning both Alec and a Servant. The servant came in first, and took all the dishes away, not even glancing at the person on the floor.

Alec entered, first with a formal bow, and then a double-take. "You didn't-!" he accused. He immediately moved to help Geronimo up, if there was any strength left in Geronimo at all. He checked to see if Geronimo was even conscious still.

"Why, I'm sure I don't know what you mean, MISTER Aster" Zold responded to Alec. "He must have been quite tired."

Alec was no amount of a powerful man, so it took him enough effort just to get Geronimo back onto a chair. He slid her off of his shoulder and flopped her in the upright position onto the chair she had been sitting on. "You goddmaned sunovabitch, taking ALL my good intentions and twisting them- Hell, he was just looking for somebody! Have you no capacity to do anything good for ANYBODY without making SOME kind of a profit?!"

Zold frowned. "What are you talking about, Alec? I hardly expect that kind of language and tone from you. He'll be staying with us for some time - in a round-about way."

The mild-mannered man-servant then picked up a spare chair (everything that had been setting on it fell over with a great crash), and slammed it down for Zold's head. Alas, it was all for naught; the larger of the two men snapped up a cane from somewhere and batted the chair out of the way, breaking it, with a surprising show of athletic skill. He stared Alec down good. Alec glared back!

So after their glare-off, Zold let out a sigh, sat down, and scribbled something onto a piece of paper. "Here," He said. "Take him to this location. Hold him there. Take Zaffar if you have to. And find some messenger to deliver this - " he scrawled on another piece of paper, and handed both to Alec. "- to Golam. Have it delivered to the Bloodmace family."

"Oh do it yourself, you pompous ass!"

Zold reached over and grabbed Alec by the collar of his shirt, twisted it, and pulled Alec nice and close, only now his face contorting in malice. "You. WILL. Do as I say. I own everything that is yours now. If you try to run, I WILL track you down and destroy you."

"I'm already destroyed," Alec snapped back. "And if you kill me, you'll never get them to work."

"I'm at my wit's end with you. I'm starting to wonder if you'll ever had any intention of finishing them... so if I kill you, what am I really losing? You, on the other hand, will die knowing that your son will be an orphan. You don't want that, do you...?"

Alec snarled, but he eventually resigned. He pulled himself away from Zold. "I hate to admit that I'm a weak man, but you have to know that if he wakes up, he'll overpower me... you can see that, can't you?"

"That's why you'll give him this." Zold handed a vial to Alec. "This will keep him out nice and good. And this-" another vial, "- Will help him forget where he was before he wakes up in an unfamiliar place."

Alec pocketted them, disgruntled, and with a LOT of effort, slung Geronimo over a shoulder and began to carry out his commands.

Ger woke up with the headache of her LIFE! "Saints of the Forge Almighty, what was in that tea?" It was then that she realized she was in some weird room and it made no sense. "Something about. . .about Silence. . ." Now she remembered! She'd come to Kaionar to get information about her! Nonetheless she felt like she'd been sleeping for days, and hoped that it wasn't the case otherwise. She looked around for anyone that she could ask, and seemed to find nobody.

"Orran's going to be so peeved when I don't come home on time. . ." she grumbled. She hoped that eventually someone would come in so she could ask for help. She faintly remembered a man named "Alec" but couldn't for the life of her remember what his face looked like. Underneath her tough, happy nature she felt like sobbing her eyes out. Nothing made sense and she'd no idea where she was; she felt helpless! It didn't help that her body barely wanted to move no matter how much energy she had. "Is anyone there? Hello?" she called.

PostSubject: Re: Family Reunion (Liza, Jula and Aero)    Family Reunion (Liza, Jula and Aero) Icon_minitimeSat Aug 04, 2012 12:17 am

"You're awake?" came Alec's voice from the other side of the heavy door. there was a little mini-opening - a crudely cut hole in the heavy wood, if she went over to investigate. It was near the bottom of the door, like they are in prisons. In fact, it was to be used exactly that way; by slipping food in and out. But for now, Alec used it as an eye-hole. He ducked his head down to take a look inside. "I can't imagine you're feeling well, so I won't bother with asking... Are you hungry Ma'am?"

ELSEWHERE, across in Gollam, a messenger (just a hired one from Kaionar), arrived at the Bloodmace estate. This person of no importance gave a letter to their footman, who he expected would give it to the appropriate persons. Whenever someone of imporntance received it, the letter read as follows:

"Greetings,

I hope this letter finds you well. I have met your son Geronimo recently, and, to my great displeasure, he has caused me much grief. The damage that he has caused to my estate, reputation, and livelihood is irreparable. Because of this, I have taken your son and hidden him away from the world, as to save the rest of society the suffering that he has caused me. However, I require some compensation for the hardship that I have been put through. Rather than go through a court of Law (which as we know are corrupt anyway), I am going to speak to you on this matter directly. Irreparable is the damage may be, monetary compensation will do me worlds of good as a start. I have arranged a place and a time to have you meet with one of my messengers. You will give him 100,000 gold pieces, or I will kill this rapscallion very completely, and very slowly. First, I will break all of his bones. Then, I will do other things, but ultimately it will end when I crush his skull with a slate of Iron.

Thank you for your consideration."

At the bottom of the letter, there was indeed a date (about four days away) and a place that was outside of Kaionar.

It was also NOT signed, as apparently Zold wanted to keep his identity a secret. But unfortunately, whoever paid the messenger had directed him to inform the recipient that the letter WAS from Zold D'Laube.

"Ma'am?! How. . .?! Oh nevermind! Alec let me go, please!" she called getting up and stumbling over. "Whatever it is that's going on, I can handle with my own two fists." He didn't sound too happy, and in her book he didn't receive any blame for what had happened to her. She quieted her voice and sighed. "Yes, I am, but name your price; you shouldn't have to work for a man like Zold. I can get you out of here, your son as well. I'm sure you'd make a fine addition to my blacksmith shop as a clerk, I'm currently running it by myself. At any rate when Orran comes looking for me I doubt your master will live long anyway."

The last statement was indeed true, for at that moment Orran was well on his way to Kaionar to see about his mother. He sniffed about a bit and made his way to the upper class area of town before stopping at Zold's abode, it seemed Ger had spent a decent amount of time here. He took his front paw and gently hit the door with it before sitting down with his tail curled around his forelegs. "Zold D'Laube! I'm here about Geronimo!" Now it was just a matter of waiting.

PostSubject: Re: Family Reunion (Liza, Jula and Aero)    Family Reunion (Liza, Jula and Aero) Icon_minitimeSat Aug 04, 2012 12:50 am

Alec ddn't say anything for a few moments, before letting out a tired, weary sigh, and a sad chuckle. "Well, see, I don't have the key. The door - well, the house is old, but the basement and door were put in here custom by... well, the point is, he rather didn't trust me with the key, I can't see why not, though. the door is locked from both directions, actually. There's not even a door-handle out here. I had half a mind to try to keep the key, but Zaffar would have most likely snapped my neck, you see. He's friendly enough, but unfortunately rather taken to Zold." He rubbed his neck a bit as he thought about the alternative to his neck not being whole and undamaged. "And I'm afraid I'm not as courageous as all that," He said sadly. He sighed again and leaned back. "But I do want to get you out of here. I thought, for a time, that Zold wouldn't take a life, but ... " He trailed off. "Well, you don't worry about me. You just worry about you. Dmitri is safe enough, I just want to be in one piece to be able to get back to her eventually. I got my own self into this predicament I'm afraid. But... I SUSPECT that you will live, whether your family provides the randsom or not."

"And... my apologies, as I was carrying you... Well, you're not shaped like a man," He said sheepishly. "Actually... I have .. the lad I was talking about earlier, the son, the person who I had inquired about. She reminds me of you, a bit, though I'm sure she'd much rather have a frame like yours than a frame like mine. I'm afraid what I gave her physically won't do her much good."

Zold started up in surprise as his door was knocked on and he was addressed. Uh-oh. This was neither the time NOR the place directed in the letter. He was never supposed to meet ANYBODY face to face! ... He knew what time it was, now. It was time to lie his ass off.

He called for Alec to answer the door and then forgot that Alec wasn't there. Shoot. Ah well. He put on a pair of spectacles to make himself look more homey, and he answered the door. "Pardon me... Yes? How may I help you?"

"Can you get me a crowbar? I can pry this door open no problem. As for my physique I'm not sure if that's a compliment, but I know it isn't an insult. I won't have to wait long otherwise anyway, Orran's an acid dragon he can melt the door to nothing more than a puddle. Courage doesn't mean keeping a stone face in the presence of danger, it means standing up for what's right, no matter the cost." She checked her pockets and realized that nobody had disarmed her. "How thick is this door? If it's relatively thin I might be able to cut through it."

Orran had his teeth bared and was giving a rather menacing smile. "Where's Geronimo? If you don't bring Ger here within the next half hour I will reduce you and all your worldly possessions to a puddle of ooze. If you manage to get that done in such a time however, I'm afraid instead of MY wrath, you'll face my human's instead. Layman's terms: there will be no payment, understand?"

Alec laughed quietly. "I guess being a coward still applies to me then. The cost of my life is too high. And, it shouldn't be, considering I know that I'm no good to the world. I know what's right and wrong. I don't have any plausible deniability, no excuses. Well... perhaps that makes me... not a coward, but selfish. Though, is there really a difference, when it comes down to it?" he mused.

"It's pretty thick," Alec said, peering at the edges of the hole that had been sawed through it, and tapping on it a bit. "But I like the crowbar idea. I might be able to come up with something. I wouldn't be able to do it myself so it didn't occur to me, but you might be able to get it open yourself if I pass it through here. Though, here, eat first, while I look, you've been asleep for a long time." He passed a plate though. It had roasted duck meat on it, but it was warm enough that it might have ben cooked over an hour or two ago. There were some bread-crumbs on the plate, but no bread or roll. Alec was guilty of eating whatever had been there, but oh well. Once that had been handed through, he got up and left.

---

Zold had not been expecting a dragon. Well, that was new, and it certainly brought a new level of threat to his livelihood. He would have to be very careful. He WAS genuinely surprised, so he went with his surprised expression. "Beg your pardon?" He asked. "Who is Geronimo? I haven't seen him or her... or any dragon that isn't mine recently," he said. "But of course I'll ... I'll help you find them however I can," He said quickly. "I know I'd be in a panicked flurry if I were missing somebody, too..."

As if on cue, there was actually a little voice from deeper within the house. "Daddy? Who's there?" Behind Zold, coming in from another room, was a pretty, young girl, about ten or twelve. She was pale, with brown hair tied up in a bun, with a pink ribbon holding it in place. She wore a rather frilly dress, pink and white in color.

Now, if Zold WEREN'T more afraid for his life, he probably would have planned her coming in to make him seem less threatening, but because he WAS rather afraid for his life, he got REALLY panicky. "Rose! Go to your room right now, okay? Go to your room, right now." The little girl seemed to be rather taken aback, and even hurt by Zold's shouting, so she skittered away looking like she was about to cry.

Zold looked quite crestfallen, and turned back to Orran, desperate. "Please, you have to believe me, I don't know what you're talking about. Who told you that I had this 'Geronimo'?"
