Oh how Lourna wished to have more time for archery practice! It was one of the few things she actually enjoyed in Racksom. With a new dragon to tend to, and not knowing what in the world it could do, she'd been in for a rough time the last few weeks. She aimed for the target and missed the bulls-eye by less that an 8th of an inch. How very vexing. "Hellfire!" she swore angrily to herself and shot again. Still barely missing the center of the target. "Why can't I hit the center, hang it all?!" She paused and examined her arrows carefully, but there was no reason why they wouldn't fly straight. She then checked her bow, nothing wrong with it either. Then what in the world was keeping her from hitting that stupid bulls-eye?

She drew another arrow and shot again, this time hitting the target. How was it that when she skewed her shot she hit the target? It didn't make much sense to her until she moved in closer and pointed an arrow at the bulls-eye, but when she moved back a few paces, the arrow was off-center. Apparently it was her eyes that were getting in the way. . . "Another complication, how lovely. First my voice then my eyes, let's hope I survive to 20!" she remarked sourly. When her family still lived in "Old" Surahnia as her father had called it, her mother had been exposed to the poisons that destroyed the land. Of course they feared any children they had together would be malformed or turn out to be stillborn. Lourna was the only child, not the last but certainly the only that she knew of, that had survived long enough to be deemed healthy enough for the army. The only known problem physicians had discovered was that her voice was unusually soft. Surely if anyone found out about her eyes she'd be discharged immediately, and that COULDN'T happen on her watch! Something moved out of her field of vision and she stiffened slightly. "Is someone there?"

Siofra had been observing the woman for quite a while as she was struggling with bow and arrow, forcing herself to shoot at the target over and over again. The half-elf had to admire Lourna’s refusal to give up but there was something far too strained behind her movements, which inevitably made her miss the bulls-eye over and over again. It was something that would be trained out of her easily enough and seeing that she was willing to force herself quite a bit, Siofra did not see a problem as far as training was concerned.

Seeing there was something else however, though Siofra wasn’t quite sure yet what it was, she couldn't help but wonder if it was really possible to completely train this problem out of her movements. As she observed the woman a while longer however, she didn’t even need to figure it out by herself as the woman was muttering to herself in frustration. Of course, the voice she had already noticed being a little different than that of any other Surahnian woman she had met so far, but apparently there was something wrong with her eyes? “Hmm, maybe I can use that knowledge to my advantage at some point,” Siofra thought before she finally peeled herself out of the shadows in which she had been standing.

As Lourna’s soft voice called out, the half-elf strode over to her in a measured pace and replied: “It’s just me.” Stepping closer to examine the bow and arrows herself, Siofra let her eyes wander along the weapons, taking in every detail of them, before she added: “It isn’t your weapons that are the problem but you yourself.” Of course, it was the girl as well, but Siofra wasn't about to already divulge that she had learnt Lourna's secret.

Without further ado, Siofra grabbed her own bow and an arrow, swiftly pointing and shooting at the target from a relaxed position, hitting the bulls-eye without trouble. “Notice the difference?”

When the elf strode over, she was rather petrified for at least one or two notable reasons. Did she have any clues about what Lori just discovered? Would she take further action if it ever came up again? The woman in question didn't seem to have much in mind to do at that moment. Only when she shot the center of the target with all the ease of a hot knife through butter, Lori did in fact notice the difference between her own technique and the one the elf used. She picked up own bow and did her best to relax before firing. She accidentally let her hand slip and misfired the arrow, only for it to hit right next to Siofra's arrow. Seemed all she needed to do was adjust her aim.

"Your skill is phenomenal." she remarked glancing at her visitor. "Maybe some day I'll be just as good." She always did have high-set goals for herself. Eventually she wanted to be Bowmaster, even if it wasn't likely to happen she'd still try to achieve it. She shot again and kept Siofra's demonstration in mind, this time doing just as well as before. "Maybe that's all that was really wrong, too much concentration." Now that the ice had been broken she faced her superior officer. "What brings you out here, anyway? Doesn't seem like a place you would frequent, ma'am."

The next time Lourna tried shooting, it was already better than before. She seemed to be a rather quick learner, something Siofra always appreciated. If some of the men she was commanding were as quick in obeying her orders as this woman now was, she definitely would have a little less trouble with her temper. Then again, she could have had a worse fate in terms of people to lead.

“Yes, exactly,” Siofra confirmed. “You are concentrating far too much and consequently, straining your muscles too much. You don’t leave your arms, hands and the extension there of breathe when you’re firing and the shot automatically will be a little off because you’re too tense. Just relax and don’t force it. Merely lead the arrow to its target and it will fly by itself.”

Siofra passed over the comment on her skill as if it had not been said. She knew she was very good at what she did, it is what got her the job, which had been no easy feat considering who she was serving. Then again, she also did not like to brag about it. It was merely a fact in her world and not something that need to be dwelled on.

“What am I doing here?” The red-head chuckled at the question as she put her bow back in its assigned spot and retrieved her arrow, inspecting the damage on the arrowhead. “I like to keep tabs on the people underneath me and on the archery training grounds anyhow. It is my job after all to scout out potential talent for the archery force of the army.”
Looking Lourna over a little, she frowned. “What is your purpose anyway? Why are you so intent on perfecting your archery? Aren’t you assigned a different job anyway? It shouldn’t really matter all that much anyway.”

"I have taken my mother's place in the archery unit, ma'am; she is in no condition to fulfill her duties as a warrior." She decided to try shooting again and rattled off a few arrows, all with varying results as she wasn't exactly trying very hard, and looked over at her. "I also run a bakery, yes, but every able-bodied man and woman are expected to serve in the military for any amount of time that they can. The more I can accomplish in a short amount of time, the further I'll go in the long-run. My life-goal is to become the Bowmaster of the army, as silly as it may sound." Having riddled the target with arrows, she put her bow away and sat down.

"I also manage my family's home, servants and upkeep and such. Haven't met a challenge yet that I haven't been able to handle, so there's no reason to get complacent and rest on my laurels. People who don't continue to challenge themselves are not worth very much." She flexed her hand a few times and retrieved her arrows quietly before sighing. "You are a native, yes? I suppose your customs are different than ours by a wide margin, but here there is the added pressure of having a family by 20." It didn't displease her really, it was just more getting added to her already busy life. "Are we a strange people to you?"

Siofra had of course heard about her taking her mother’s place in the army but she had not been sure if that had not been just another rumour. There was so much talk with so many people involved as in this army, and she was not a native after all. She may be second in command when it came to the archery unit but she was not the first one people came to, being a non-Surah and being a woman on top of that. Zartear still did not fully trust her but he was not a fool and kept her within his ranks due to her skill.

Lourna however was a little too young and too fragile it seemed to be part of any army, but that may just be outer appearance. She did have the will to do what was necessary, and that was sometimes already enough.

“When I said that you’re concentrating too hard,” Siofra commented on the shooting, “I didn’t mean that you shouldn’t pay attention to what you’re doing even if you’re doing something else while firing off an arrow. You need to learn to work properly and well even with distractions.”

As she kept listening to Lourna, she raised an eyebrow at her goal of becoming bowmaster at some point. There was no point in telling the girl that she would really have to work very hard if she wanted to achieve that, and there was also the fact that with a voice such as hers, it would be somewhat difficult to bring across any sort of authority when speaking. However, Siofra was not going to point this out to her. Not now, at least. It was likely that the girl knew this herself anyhow.

“Mmh,” Siofra agreed, as she sat down, observing Lourna. “Customs vary between nations, even within Dragons’ Cove, so it’s only normal that they also differ from your. But I don’t consider your nation strange, just different. It would not do to call a people odd just because they’re not the same as one self.”
Remaining silent for quite a bit as she contemplated Lourna’s words, she finally asked: “What about you then? What do you think of Dragons’ Cove? Of the natives? Are we strange to you?”

"You're all the most outlandish of people, but there's a distinct level of fascination among us younger folk. Our parents and others our parents' ages are very wary of you natives. The idea of magic terrifies most of them, and they have been brought up in generations upon generations of tradition that doesn't include it. We who grew up here are a bit more accustomed to seeing it, but it isn't anything shy of surreal. From elves to talking dragons and the entirety of the island totally flooded with magic, all of it looks amazing from a child's eye." She took a long look at the woman and smiled.

"You yourself give some of the women here cause to worry, you're quite lovely." If more of the Surahnian women looked like her, the ratio of married to unmarried women would change drastically, and to a point she wished she looked more like the elf. Perhaps not in the color of her hair or eyes, but more her features and physique. She was a rather late bloomer and felt horrendous over it when she'd see others her age and notice the differences. "If you would like to see the bakery I would be happy to give you a tour?" She'd also put that blue egg shaped thing she'd gotten in Jiluria into the back room for safe-keeping, hopefully in her absence it was still there. Things were about to get far more interesting if they did in fact go to the bakery.

“It’s all relative. It depends on where you were born and bred. To us, it seems odd that you don’t have an affinity with magic, but that is quite simply because we are used to having it around us and within almost anything we touch, and we can’t quite imagine a place void of magic.”
Siofra paused for a moment, contemplating how much more she could tell a youngling like this. It wasn’t that she was scared that Lourna would use the information against it, but it was quite simply that she did not want to be the one to give away too much about her own country to someone who did not properly understand it anyhow.
“I’m sure it must be quite fantastic for the young ones, indeed,” Siofra finally agreed. It was odd for her to merely be sitting still without doing anything but at the same time, it felt like a relief to not have to constantly move for a change.

The half-elf waved off the comment about her appearance with a wave of her hand. “Beauty is subjective, my dear,” she merely replied before getting up again. She simply could not sit still for long after all, and she was just about to take her leave again when Lourna suggested a tour of the bakery. Considering the offer for a few seconds, Siofra then nodded, feeling as though she could indulge the girl a little. “A tour of the bakery sounds lovely.” It couldn’t hurt to remain on her good side, especially since the young one seemed to admire her a little – allies were hard to come by when you were not one of the natives, and Siofra was not about to throw caution to the wind merely because she wasn’t all that interested in Lourna's private life.

She hadn't really intended to say all that much about her personal life, but to talk about one's business and such was normal, to Surahs at least. "Don't suppose you really get out all that often, being one of the closest to the king, do you?" She hoped her mother would be napping so that nothing got lost in transit in terms of interaction, but if she wasn't then it was a small ridge to smooth over. However, when she arrived she found little flour footprints, or rather paw prints, on the floor. "Strange, we don't own any animals, why are there prints all over the floor?" She wedged the door open and grabbed the broom when she heard something currying about in the back room.

"I swear I didn't plan on this. . ." she said looking at Siofra. The next thing she knew, she found the "stone" shattered and realized it wasn't in chunks, but convex pieces like a shell. "That used to be a blue oval shaped stone, or that's what it looked like. It just got handed to me when I went to Jiluria on a scouting mission." Something made a purring sound off to her left, and lo and behold there sat a small midnight blue dragon with the biggest eyes she'd ever seen! "Willow Mother have mercy!" The hatchling looked at her, then at Siofra, then back at her and squeaked almost like a mouse. "Is that. . .really a dragon?" It didn't fit the stereotype that she'd always heard about them being large flying lizards that breathed fire. It was about the size of a large house cat, and almost as cute from a feline standpoint.

Arriving at the backery, what they found had not quite been what Siofra had expected. While they had been on the way, she had passed over Lourna’s comment of her not really getting out. She wasn’t really at liberty to discuss all of her actions with a common soldier and neither did she want to. Remaining somewhat private was what she preferred.

“Looks like you have a visitor,” Siofra muttered as she inspected the prints on the floor. They were literally everywhere though it did not look like the creature was overly large, thus Siofra refrained from drawing her bow. Whatever this was, they would manage to take care of it without arrows.

“That was not a stone, Lourna,” Siofra muttered as the girl pointed out the blue pieces scattered across the floor, and if to prove her words, they finally came across the one responsible for the mess. “Oh, a night dragon!” the half-elf exclaimed as she inched closer to the dragon.
No matter how cute the hatchling looked, it could still bite or scratch, and seeing that they had no idea as to its intention or apparently its real origin, there was no way in telling how the being would react if someone got close to her.

Lowering herself to her knees, Siofra looked at the dragon, noticing no apparent wounds from its exploration through the bakery. “Well, the dragon seems unhurt.” Looking at Lourna, she added: “You’ve gotten yourself quite a deal there. Randomly being handed a dragon egg is suspicious however, to say the least. But, you’ve now got a dragon since I don’t think it’ll be on its way anytime soon. You took care of its egg after all.”

"When our group was wandering through the black market some kid had stolen the egg and I stopped him. I returned the egg and the owner just handed it back to me and proceeded to discipline the child. I didn't know what it was, thought it was just some kind of stone. I was with Atoro and two other women, a mother and daughter. I honestly didn't have any interest in it, and as an egg I'd have never taken it to start with. Seeing as it's hatched now I don't guess I'll be able to get out of taking care of it." She moved a bit closer and it looked up at her with a small purring sound. Her heart could have melted.

"Do most of your dragons start out this way?" she asked as she timidly petted the hatchling on the head. "Amazing that they can get so big and start out so very small." She watched the little dragon climb down and squeak at the both of them before yawning. "Looks like her little run tired her out." she remarked sitting down by the dragon. "Noticed there's some fluid in the egg, must've hatched while I was out." After watching the little thing amble about and inspect the both of them she broke into a smile. "Perhaps keeping a dragon won't be so bad after all. Could use an extra bit of life around here." Out of the blue the little dragon looked up at her and squeaked again before saying, "Eer!" It was supposed to be "here" but being a newborn the hatchling hadn't quite grasped that yet. Lourna however was stunned, it could talk?! THAT made this a new kettle of fish!

“Being given a dragon egg is an extraordinary feat. You should feel honoured, even more so because the dragon seems to quite like you.” Siofra replied, having gone back to studying the dragon. It was intriguing however how she had ended up with the egg and she was quite interested in knowing who this man was who had simply handed her a dragon egg without explanation or even asking for anything in exchange.

“Yes, generally they all start out this way, but do not be fooled. As small as they are when they hatch, they can cause quite a lot of damage, not to mention pain. Learn to listen to its sounds and learn to understand its movements quickly as it will grow to at least double its size in a short amount of time,” Siofra cautioned. “You do not want an angry or pouting dragon roaming about your bakery.”

The dragon seemed comfortable enough in its new home, which was good enough for Siofra. Seeing that it had not picked up its feet and ran for the hills as soon as they had entered the bakery, she was fairly certain that the dragon would have a good life with Lourna. “No, it isn’t so bad, you will just need to make a few rearrangements due to its oncoming size, but that…”
Before Siofra could finish her sentence, the hatchling tried talking to Lourna, stunning the Surahnian woman though the half-elf merely chuckled. “You’ll understand her soon enough. She probably already knows what you’re saying. Talk to her like you would to a human, treat her like one too, and you two will get along just fine.”

Rising back onto her feet, Siofra looked at the new family and asked: “Is there anything else you want to know?”

The little dragon livened up considerably when Siofra stood and began squeaking repeatedly while running around her feet. "No! No!" She'd actually repeated "know", but also didn't want the red furred two-leg to leave. She got up on her hind legs and gently pawed at the elf's leg with a soft purr, hoping the gesture would at least get her some attention. Since Lourna'd been away, there were one or two words that people had said outside that she picked up on. One of them was 'please' and the other was 'pretty'. "Pease pr-r-retty?" As per her inexperience with the Surahnian tongue, she purred the 'r' in pretty by accident but it sounded so darn cute!

Lourna watched the dragon's behavior and laughed. "Smart little biscuit she is indeed. Think I know what I'll call her now, Sinyaya Krasota: Sapphire Beauty." The name stuck as the little dragon tried to say the name, but it was too complex and she butchered it fairly badly. "Anything you can tell me about her breed would be helpful, quite sure it'll come in handy. Will have to hide the flour and pie fillings for sure, not sure what else to baby-proof but that will come later." Little Yaya was still actively trying to keep Siofra from leaving, and she figured she was successful since the elf hadn't moved.

Siofra looked at the little dragon at her feet, an expression of profound astonishment spreading over her features. This, she had not expected. After all, the one caring for the egg and by extension the hatchling was Lourna, not her. Though of course, the dragon seemed to know that she knew stuff, which was maybe why it wanted her to stay. Or maybe it just quite simply liked the company. It wasn’t an easy feat to decipher the baby language just yet.

“It’s a lovely name,” the half-elf smiled as she watched Lourna observing the dragon. “How did you come by it?” Patting the little hatchling slightly to assure her that she was receiving some attention, Siofra lowered herself back to the ground as she looked at the creature more closely.

“Night dragons are commonly night-active as their name suggests. As any youngling, it will require a lot of attention, food and it will need to be educated, but dragons are fairly fast learners. As I’ve mentioned, she will grow quickly, thus you will have to figure out a decent way of accommodating her, though I’m sure that at least for tonight, your place will be just fine. I expect you have a bit of space where you could fit her in for the time being?”

Considering the dragon for a little while longer, the half-elf added: “Be sure to speak clearly, as she will imitate you and we don’t want her to acquire any bad habits of swallowing words or letters. Dragons are intelligent and she will be talking clearly very soon. She may turn out to be somewhat stubborn, night dragons are known to have such tendencies, but it isn’t necessarily the case for all of them.”

"Her skin is the clearest blue I've yet to see on any creature." she replied gently petting the baby. "She's a natural beauty." She quickly absorbed all the advice and information that the elf gave her, as it would have been foolish not to. Yaya was keeping close track of words that she didn't know, and stored some of the easier words away for later. While the talking was going on, she managed to sneak away and come back with a fruit filled pastry in her mouth. "You little sneak!" remarked Lourna as she noticed the pastry. "Apparently shelves and things that hold food must now be baby proofed as well." At the mention of a place to keep her she nodded. "Oh, yes I can make arrangements as she gets bigger. Mother keeps horses in the back, suppose until I can figure out something more fitting when she no longer fits at the foot of the bed."

For the moment, yes it appeared that Yaya just wanted attention. Though with age it would turn out to just be a natural, or unnatural, disliking of men with few exceptions. Every movement the dragon made was quickly analyzed and would be written down to study later during practice. At that point, Lourna had a basic idea of what she had to hide in order to keep the dragon out of it, and the list included everything but the washroom tub. This would be an experience like no other.

A couple of days after the egg hatching incident, Siofra was on yet another of her scouting runs through the city of Racksom. The devastation which had taken hold of most of the city during the battle was starting to look less horrifying. A lot of the debris had been moved away, no corpses were scattered about anymore.
She had to hand it to the Surahnians, they did do a good job when they put their minds to something.

Her mind completely elsewhere, Siofra only noticed that she was close to Lourna’s bakery when she had already passed the building. Stopped in her tracks, the half-elf turned around to look at it, savouring the smell of bakery goods in the air. Maybe she should check in to see how the girl was fairing with the dragon. After all, she had never had to take care of a dragon before, and possibly was one of the first and only Surahnians to ever do such a thing.
In addition, she wouldn't mind seeing for herself whether the dragon was alright. Hearing it from someone was one thing but seeing the animal a completely different. It wasn't that she did not trust Lourna to take good care of the creature, it was that she was not sure whether she was able to considering her lack of knowledge in terms of magic - or dragons for that matter. Siofra preferred to be certain.

It wasn’t as though she had a specific schedule to stick to, thus Siofra quickly moved towards the bakery, briefly knocked on the door before stepping inside, calling out a friendly “Hello?” as she did so.

At the sound of "hello" Lourna perked up from behind her work counter, a puff of flour making a grey streak in her hair. "Hello there!" she replied cheerily. She grabbed two spare rags and quickly pulled a tray of fresh tartlets from the blazing oven behind her before setting the tray on a stone slab to cool. "Turns out Yaya stays awake all night and sleeps all day, so she hasn't really been noticed by any of my customers." After setting a large blob of dough aside, she cleaned her hands and retrieved her sleepy little dragon. "She got tired around sunrise and curled up in the window to get a little sun." Truth be told, Lourna was much happier having the dragon around, it added some spontaneity to the monotony of her schedule.

In response to having been moved, Yaya yawned and stretched her lithe front legs tiredly and looked at Lourna then at Siofra and blinked. "Ofr-r-a!" she squeaked as best she could. "Sofr-r-a!" she squeaked again. She wanted so badly to get that tricky name right, it sounded so nice when the two-leg said it! It was after the second attempt that she quieted down, having realized that she was nowhere near getting the name right. She made no attempt to get away from her human, but she DID make an attempt to get a closer look at the cooling pastries before getting reprimanded. "She's made excellent progress in speaking. Yesterday she didn't understand your name at all."

The bakery was in full swing when Siofra entered and the smell of freshly baked tartlets hit her before she had even closed the door behind her, actually making her mouth water. There was nothing better than the smell of freshly baked goods, and it would probably always be enough to make her want to savour them even if she wasn’t hungry.
“I hope I’m not interrupting your work,” Siofra said as she watched Lourna remove the tartlets from the oven. The movements looked practised so it seemed the girl had gotten well used to this line of work. Good.

“Hm, yes, night dragons are not much for daylight. They’re nocturnal creatures by nature and it’s fairly rare to see them up and about during the day. Probably just as well for now, at least where customers are concerned. I’m not too sure how pleased they would be if a dragon was running about the bakery while they were visiting.”
Smiling, Siofra greeted the dragon, who in vain tried to pronounce her name, but the progress was noticeable indeed! “She is doing very well, yes. A highly intelligent one, this one,” Siofra mused. “It won’t take her long to master the language completely, I don’t think.” Dragons in general were quick to speak from a young age onwards, but this one seemed to be a little bit ahead of the game.

“It’s good to see you’ve both settled in just fine with the situation,” she said as she looked at the two of them together. Already acting like mother and child, in a way, and it had only been a few days since Yaya’s hatching. “Has she been behaving?” Siofra asked with a grin when she watched the dragon curiously eye the pastries.

"She's behaved about as well as can be expected for her age. I have absolutely zero idea of what to expect and I think I'll keep it that way for now. Moreover the only misbehaving she's done is swiping the occasional slice of bread or bit of cake. Other than that she's been a right darling!" Yaya in the meantime had been doing her best to get away from Lourna to investigate the treats just a little too far out of her reach. Finally she gave up trying to get out of the girl's arms and whined, hoping that maybe she'd get one by being cute, but that didn't work either.

"On occasion she acts like a moody cat wanting to be left alone, and on others she tries to be cute to get away with things like a puppy." After a good cuddle Yaya quit going after the sweets and made herself comfy in the younger baker's arms. Lori wandered over to an empty shelf and set her dragon down before heading back to the counter. "Since you're here anyway is there anything you'd like to try? I'm still sort of getting this place off the ground and I'm not quite sure if anything needs to change. All the recipes were in a book I found in the back room, so I never questioned them." The recipes belonged to the previous owners, and needless to say now that said owners were deceased, it wouldn't have mattered one way or the other if she used them.

Siofra grinned as Lourna explained the tiny misdeeds of the dragon – it almost was as to be expected, though the dragon’s sweet tooth needed to remain under control. Dragons should not be raised on sweets but the night dragon would soon realise as well that she also needed other things than just bakery goods, no matter how nice they smelt.

“Ah,” Siofra mused over the goods. “I’m not going to refuse a little slice of pie if you have one to spare. I’m surprised there aren’t any people in here though, to be honest.” While she was talking, Siofra inspected the goods Lourna had taken out of the oven when she had entered. “I’d imagine more Surahnians would come for a loaf of freshly made bread, especially seeing that there aren’t many bakers in Racksom.”

The half-elf’s eyes flicked in between the pies, cakes and cookies on display until she finally pointed to a particularly delicious looking one. “I think I’ll try that one, please,” she requested before replying to Lourna’s actual problem in this respect. “I’m fairly certain that there isn’t all that much that will still need changing in the recipes at all. Generally, once they’re written down, that is how they are going to be used for the most part, minor variations excepted of course. It’s like everything else – once you know how it’s done, that is how you will keep doing it for the most part. What exactly did you use anyway? And where did you find the supplies? Didn't think trade was already that well established?” Obviously, she needed to do a bit more research on that front. This was the kind of surprise she preferably avoided most of the time.

"Trade with natives is a little tough considering the language barrier, but trade within the city is bustling aside from the war going on. Most everything I use around here is bought locally since we haven't made the best impression on the previous residents." She looked at the item and smiled. "Thankfully this is I think the only thing Yaya won't try. For some reason she just doesn't like apples." She brought the pie over and served a decent-sized slice with a bit of sweet cream on top of it. "Here you are!" At the smell of the pie, the little dragon actually HISSED and tried to snuggle up to Lourna. For such a tiny little dragon, she certainly had scary looking teeth. That explained why the place was void of rats, Yaya went around hunting them during the night.

"It's alright you don't have to eat it, Yaya." she assured the dragon. She grabbed a sliver of dried beef from a jar and fed it to her to calm her down. It didn't take long for her little companion to forget the pie altogether and simply lay on the counter to chew on her treat. "The fruits I can use are dependent on the seasons for the moment, but hopefully that will change soon. I don't think that getting along with the natives is such a bad idea really, it could benefit our people a lot more than fighting."

Siofra had her own proper opinion on the Surahnians’ impression on the natives and it would not be too hard to guess if anyone knew her true motives. As it were, it wasn’t overly complicated for anyone to find out that the natives were shunning the army as much as possible for fear of what might happen to them, except the odd few who only considered their own best no matter what the cost for everyone else.

However, even if she knew all this, probably even better than Lourna, she did neither interrupt the woman, nor comment on it. It simply wouldn’t do to start a discussion about it, plus she didn’t want to let on how much she really knew about this.

“That’s good then, I will never have to fight her over apple pie,” Siofra joked as she took the piece from Lourna. Thanking the girl for her hospitality, she winked at Yaya. “You just don’t know what is good,” she joked as the night dragon snuggled closer to her owner to get away from the apple smell.

“You don’t say,” Siofra muttered in between bites from her pie, but refrained from saying anything else, not wanting to comment. Abruptly, she moved to the window and looked out, a noise having alerted her. “Something is going on out there,” she quickly said before already darting out the door towards the sound. Bow and arrow were already in her hand, ready to be drawn at any moment, if the need arose.

"I think apples make her sick, but that's a theory." The sounds outside put her on alert as well and moved Yaya to the back room. "You stay here and go back to sleep, I'll be back shortly." she assured the baby as she quietly closed the door. Said baby whined a little but eventually quieted as she heard her strange two-leg companion walking away. Lori meanwhile was following Siofra, somewhat worried about what might be going on outside. "Is it a fight? Or some kind of protest?" She feared the worst, even though she sounded genuinely curious.

There was a strange quarrel going on in the street and it was a foreign concept to Lourna; she'd never known anyone to brawl in the street unless they were stone cold drunk. "Did someone have too much to drink?" she wondered to herself. She could hear no music, so it was unlikely to be anything of cultural importance, but the concern was there just the same. Turns out it was a LOT of someones who'd had a few drinks too many and started a rather scary looking fight out in the street with bottles and tankards in shards all strewn about in stunningly horrendous disarray. "Any suggestions. . .?" she ventured to ask with an uncertain glance at Siofra. "This whole thing shows little sign of burning out any time soon."

With Lourna on her heels, Siofra ventured into the street and towards the sound, never letting go of the arrow nocked to her bow. When she saw what was causing the noise, her face clouded over. She did not hate men, but she hated the fact that it was always men starting up these sorts of unnecessary drunken fights. As if there were no better things to do with their lives.

“Drunken bastards,” she muttered as she tried to assess the situation. “I’m not quite sure, but you might be right.” The situation indeed didn’t look as though it would quiet down any time soon. ON the contrary. More and more men seemed to want to add their ‘opinion’ to the fight and it turned into a massive brawl. There weren’t many such as this, especially not in daylight, but this wasn’t the first time, Siofra had had to deal with angry, drunken men.

“Unfortunately,” the half-elf stated, “they tend not to properly listen when you speak to them, so we need to use other means. With fair warning of course.”
At this last bit, a small, malicious smile played around Siofra’s lips and she called out, her voice loud but calm: “Stop this nonsense! It’s the middle of the day, do you not have any decency? Keep it up and you shall pay!”
As predicted, no reaction came from the men’s part, and Siofra looked at Lourna briefly: “Got a bow and arrows at the ready?” The question did not leave much room for guessing what Siofra was planning on doing.

"Women are worse, on occasion they are much worse." A man could beat you senseless and leave you for dead, kill you even, but a woman would ruin your social standing beyond repair THEN kill you. "When things like this happen with women your entire world is at stake. Men kill each other, women ruin lives and kill each other; our women do at least." Hence why Lourna had gotten to be so quiet over the years. The entire idea behind paying attention to the gossip chain was to learn about what everyone was doing without getting directly involved. It was nice to hear about the scandals and the manic escapades and the hilarious stories that the women passed along.

The first time something flew her way she loosed an arrow on impulse and the color drained from her face. She'd nailed a man to the wall by his hand. "I-I missed. . .I was aiming for the glass. . ." It did its job at least, but her aim had been off by a long shot, or that was what she'd thought at first. It wasn't till she looked at where the glass had ended up that she realized what had happened: she'd been looking at the glass and shooting at something else. Layman's terms her signals got crossed somewhere in transit. Now she didn't feel half so bad! "We won't be needing reinforcements, will we?" she asked.
