It was hardly what could be called 'cold' in Harglen, but there wasn't the heat of the desert sun, so Hone would complain about it whenever someone asked her how she was doing. Mud had lost any aspect of fun a long time ago, and the trek from the Everbridge had been entirely too full of it. Also, she didn't like having to carry things on her back. She didn't mind when she was asked and didn't have any responsibility to, but when she was made to do things, they instantly became a lot less fun in general. And now, to add insult to injury (or... pseudo-injury), Harglen didn't even want them around. But they were doing so good! Elites were there to help!
It was a sad little lash dragon that stood to attention at the gate of Harglen, trying to remain happy and alert, but somewhat disheartened by everything going on around them. Outside Harglen was a mess of refugees and the injured- who were at least getting seen to now, happily- and inside, discontented townspeople and fraught council members. She had caught a glimpse of the big scarred dragon and the Prince Atleon the day before, although it had been only the smallest of looks, and the excitement of that had worn off quickly once she knew she wouldn't be properly meeting them.

At least it wasn't raining, right?
She shuffled her wings closer to herself all the same, wishing that she could be out on patrol or helping construct things or... well, anything was better than just standing guard. There wasn't even anyone else to talk to! Apparently she had been too enthusiastic when erecting tents and helping with the wounded- fancy that, how could you be too enthusiastic?! It was crazy. They were just too plain boring, obviously, that they didn't want her bubbly presence around to cheer people up.
She raised her head to see a cart drawing inexorably slowly towards the town, and decided to go out and meet it. Well, why not? There was nothing else going on, and they probably would like some company for the last little part of their journey to Harglen; a friendly smile and chatter always cheered her up, so wouldn't it someone else? Her spirits lifted even at the thought of being able to talk to someone else- yes, they would be glad to see her, no doubt! She picked up her feet and put a spring in her step, her voice chirpy and excitable despite the niggling thought that she probably shouldn't leave her post. Wouldn't hurt just a little distance though! Nope, she was just trying to make the world a little bit happier.

She wasn’t quite sure why she had been so eager to accept this mission, yet here she was, Lolantellah, the fearless Elite, flying like a madbird to make good time in trying to accomplish said mission. Only, she wasn’t quite fearless. Her flight had been much less hurried when she had set off from Yarrowitz but once she had hit the rainforest and felt the unstable magic that seemed to be oozing out from around Celen’s Fall, she had panicked and put an enormous burst of speed behind the flap of her large wings.

Alright, so the truth was that, mission or no, it was not the reason why she was flying so hard. The reason was that she was scared senseless because she had absolutely no idea, not even an inkling thereof, of why the magic seemed to have gone viral at that particular spot of the island. Sooner or later, she was going to have to find out but this was unlike anything she had ever trained for and she was angry at the lack of training but she was even angrier at herself for having panicked.

But the magic had been gnawing at her, pulling her. It had felt like it was trying to invade her, rip out her feathers, unlike anything, anywhere, ever. She would face down a battle in which she was outnumbered, but that magic…
Shuddering, Lola wavered in the air a little before moving back into a slightly more paced pattern. If she kept thinking about it, she wasn’t going to make herself go any slower. As it were, she had flown straight and without a break for too long already. Her wings had cramped up quite a while ago, yet the fear and adrenaline had kept her going.

Lola finally took stock of her surroundings on a more conscious level to find a spot to land. She needed to rest, otherwise she was going to ruin herself. She was surprised that she hadn’t already broken down. Then again, flight training had been a large part of her time spent with the Elites. Her wing muscles were incredibly strong, so was her stamina. What she lacked in strength on the ground, she had made up for in the air.

“Oh wow,” she muttered when she realised that she was already almost in Harglen. How had that happened? And that was when total and complete exhaustion took over and she began to lose control over her flight. By the time she had managed to limit the height from which she was most likely going to fall to a minimum, she had used up the rest of her strength. At least it wasn’t going to hurt as much anymore, right?
That was until she saw the cart. “Oh this is not good,” she grumbled but it was too late. Her wings gave in and with a loud whoosh, she came falling out of the sky, crashing into at least one dragon, the cart, and whatever else was in the way until she came to a stop, lying flat in the mud with black spots dancing in front of her eyes.

Hone squeaked an eager hello as she got closer to the cart, waving to the tired-looking couple sitting behind the big ox pulling it slowly along. Its ears flickered at her chirpy voice, but didn't seem too perturbed, which was good. Sometimes animals went a bit bonkers with dragons around, when they weren't used to them, or had had bad experiences. The lash dragon still kept a bit of a distance though, just in case, trotting alongside (mud now forgotten, now she had someone to talk to) with a smile on her face. They would leave her behind in only a short while but... but for now, now she had someone to talk to, which was good enough for Hone.

She was nodding animatedly along to a tale about failing crops in the west due to this terrible rain, terrible summer season it was, the weather just so unpredictable, it wasn't doing any good at all for the soil and the potatoes, when there was a cry from a group of children messing about just outside Harglen, playing a big game of tag. A shriek went up, the children gathering together, then breaking apart again like a shoal of frightened minnows in a stream. Hone tipped her head to one side, wondering whether this was some new variant of the game they had been playing before, but then realised the screeching had changed pitch a little, and that it wasn't mock fear any more. She twisted round in a circle trying to spot what it was that had spooked them, her eyes widening when she saw the antler dragon coming hurtling towards herself and the cart. There was only enough time to shriek a 'stop!' and fan out her wings, but it had no impact whatsoever as the dragon came crashing down to the ground, spooking the ox, bouncing off the cart and probably toppling its contents and occupants (although Hone couldn't see). The lash dragon took a bashing and a mud-soaking as the antler dragon flattened her in her bumpy descent, used as an unwilling pillow against the ground as they rolled to a tangled heap.
"Owwy," she moaned lamely, one leg kicking futilely at the air. "Ooh, y've killed me. I don't like bein' a crash mat. Did y'not see the cart or summat?" She tried to wriggle free, but the antler dragon was lying all over her lower half, and it was really uncomfortable.

Lola was too exhausted to fight her way off the lash dragon she had accidentally flattened in her descent. Somewhere behind her, an ox was most vividly voicing his grievances against her, the people, whom she assumed the cart belonged to, were voicing their concerns and annoyances as well, kids were shrieking somewhere and the dragon underneath her was bemoaning something or other as well but Lola was deaf to it all.

She had ground beneath her feet again!
Or rather, she was lying face first in the dirt, but it didn’t matter, her wings didn’t need to beat anymore. Her muscles were sore and she knew she was going to pay dearly for this but for now, it didn’t matter. For now, she was on the ground. For now, she was far, far away from that awful magic.

“Sorry,” she croaked after what seemed an eternity when the lash dragon’s struggles became more vehement. Trying to shift her weight, Lola realised that her wings were definitely not up for any more work, no matter what kind, even if it was only to balance herself to get up on her own four legs again. After some more struggling, she finally managed to topple herself off her cushion and into more mud. If she could have fallen asleep right there and then, she would have.

And that was when her Elite training kicked in. Forcing herself up, she stood on wobbly legs and examined her surroundings. The kids were still there but watching her with huge, somewhat fearful eyes – not good. The ox was probably plotting ways to get back at her – minor nuisance. The terrible thing were the people’s goods that she had somehow managed to yank off the cart without completely toppling it.

“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry,” she kept muttering as she tumbled over to try and give them a hand. “I’m not usually this clumsy,” she tried to defend herself, looking at the lash dragon. “It was just a very long and very horrible flight.”

"Cannae un-squish me, it ain't comfortable," Hone asked as politely as she could, trying to be patient. She wiggled her leg in the air again best she could, but it only flicked mud this way and that, and didn't do anything good at all. Actually, now she had mud on her face as well as her feet, feathers, tail... ew. And it was cold. Come on, she was cold! She scrambled away and back upright again as the antler finally moved, all her feathers and scales sticking up as much as she could in dislike and vague disgust at the state of her. Ooh, she wished for a sandbath right now. Ruffling herself down, she took a moment to preen herself before following the antler dragon to the displaced cart, trying to lend a claw somewhere to put it back together again. Suddenly things had gotten very... well, she wanted to say exciting, and it was, but she probably shouldn't have been so interested when a mini chaos had suddenly erupted.

"We've give you some help." She scooped up a muddy, half-unrolled blanket from the ground and pushed it back onto the cart, catching it when it tried to roll free again almost immediately. "Stay... still. There! Where'd y'come from? I mean like, more than just outta the sky like tha'." She flicked the end of her wing like a human might snap their fingers together, making just a rustling sound instead of the bright snap she was aiming for. "Dinae even see you coming! Racksom? That's far away? I was supposed t'be headin' there but, then this war thing happened, an' we never got there, an now we had to turn 'round and now we're here, and I think we're gaarn go Tarz next but I ain't sure 'cos nobody really tells me anything unless they gotta to." All this she said very fast, which was probably the reason as to why she was never told anything, because she would just blurt it out in front of pretty much anyone. Finesse was not a strong point of Hone's. She jumped a little closer to the antler dragon as the Ox played up behind them, unwilling to settle down after almost being crashed into by a rather large dragon, her ears flaring up in fright. "I'm Hone, by the way. Nice t'meetcha. Who're you?"

Lola felt terrible, completely and utterly terrible. This mess was her fault. The mud on everything and everyone… Hopefully not everything was completely ruined! It would do her conscience no favours, nor would it the reputation of the Elites, and she really did not want to disgrace them or risk a telling off.

When the dragon asked where she came from, Lola couldn’t help but grin at the somewhat long-winded question, which somehow turned into a rather long explanation of what seemed to be all her recent life-events. The grin soon disappeared from the antler dragon’s face though when mention of Racksom and the war came up and Lola considered the lash dragon’s words before she finally replied, but not before the other dragon – Hone, she was now informed – asked for her name.

“I am Lolantellah, and it’s nice to meet you too, Hone. And sorry about the… you know,” she motioned all over the chaos with her wing. “I have come from Yarrowitz, by way of the rainforest and Celen’s Fall. I wanted to take a little detour via Racksom but decided it might be safer not to, what with everything that has happened. I didn’t want to risk being shot out of the sky by a hail of arrows. So you have heard all the most recent news about what has happened? And why are you going to Tarz?”

All the while, she tried to keep working to put things back on the cart but mostly everything was evading her grasp now and she grew more tired with every move she made. Elite or no, she was on the brink of passing out from exhaustion, though she hoped it would not happen right away, where people could see her.

Asking questions of Hone was always a dangerous occupation, as they never got a short answer.

"Lowlahtelleha, cool name! I like it. Is ahreet, I mean, bit o'excite now y'made, when everythin' was right quiet. Yer makin' a more'n mess." Hone scrambled to catch the things that dropped off after Lola's efforts to straighten them back onto the cart, flapping her away with one wing when she was just making things worse, paws full of all sorts of miscellaneous erm... well, it looked like junk to Hone, but she was sure there was a purpose to all these human earthly belongings. It took a while and a lot of fuss, but eventually she managed to clear the ground and kind of sort things back onto the cart. It was a good thing they were only on the very outskirts of Harglen though, because the haphazard packing wouldn't last much further than inside the gates.

"You been all over, ain't you? Yarrowitz, when you go there? That's like, way far away! When didseh gar there? Y'didn't come all t'way did you?" Hone's eyes went wide like moons, her head tipping to one side with awe at this supposition. It had taken her patrol so long to get all the way to Harglen from Guardian's Peak, and it was... was it longer from Yarrowitz? Or the same? It was a long way, she knew that much. "An' you were gaarn detour round Racksom? That ain't even close near here! You're a right nutty one." Her mouth was a little gaping now, not really believing what it was that Lola was saying. She was crazy! Tarz had seemed a long way away, but not it seemed barely a stroll when this dragon had come from the far ends of the earth.
"We was gaarn go to Tarz to help out all these people ever'where 'cos it's supposed t'be safe, ain't it? I dunno if it is though, with all them Surahananyians runnin' round. They're the bad people y'know. The Prince got do somethin' quick 'bout them invaders, or it ain't gaarn be good at all."

“Well, no,” Lola amended. “I never actually got to Racksom but from Celen’s Fall I flew straight here, without pause. It is far indeed but… under the circumstances…” The antler dragon drifted off. She was too tired for long-winded explanations and besides, she wasn’t really in the mood right now to tell anyone about the horrible thing that had happened in the rainforest. A shudder rushed over her at the mere brushing thought of it, so she stuffed it all far away and deep down into her subconscious for later.

Hone was basically just repacking whatever Lola packed and the wing-shove had been clear enough, so the antler decided to take a step back and just not mess things up even more than they already were. Bad enough that she had made the mess and now she couldn’t even clean it up. Her long wings were dragging in the mud but she barely noticed. She was too tired to lift them up into their proper position. And her legs were starting to wobble a little, too.

“Yarrowitz, yeah,” Lola tried to pick up their conversation, wherever it was they had left off. Her brain was muddled and Hone kept jumping around with questions, it was a little hard to follow. “I was stationed there on Sebantais’ ord… Tarz? Help people there? What do you mean? I thought the rebels were only in the Western part of the island? What has happened here? Where is the prince?”

"You flew all the way from Celen's Fall? But... but but, tha's like, a whole pawlength on a map!" Hone gestured the length, trying to make it really big, but accurate as well. She ended up just kinda flinging her front legs around a bit, more a hazard than any sort of measurement. It was unbelievable though- she knew dragons could fly a long distance, but all the way straight from the rainforest? Lola wasn't even that big! That was like her having run straight from Guardian's Peak, and she certainly hadn't even entertained the thought of doing something like that.
"Y'crazy. Craaazy." Now she looked at the antler dragon, it was quite clear she was utterly knackered, her wings drooping in the mud and every breath a little laboured. This was not a dragon that was just unfit after a flight, this was a dragon who was utterly exhausted. Abandoning her attempts at clearing up (the cart owners were very thankful for that), she flapped at Lola to clear her away from standing right in the middle of the road, giving her a couple of nudges on the side in an attempt to be attentive and sympathetic.

The more the antler dragon sort-of explained, the more Hone started to think that actually, it wasn't her place to sit and listen to this. She just didn't have enough authority to deal with something like a crazy dragon that had flown all the way from the rainforest. Twisting her claws together, she wondered what was the best thing to do. Obviously go to someone, but which someone, and what if they didn't want to get disturbed?
She counted off the answers to Lola's questions on one paw. "Tarz, aye, it's a place. People need help everywhere, tha's what Elites do, ain't it? Help people! There ain't any rebels there, not yet, they're over in Racksom an' that way, but they're a'comin' this way. Here there's lots of angry people an' I'm not supposed t'gar an' poke 'round in Harglen, but I really wanna an' it ain't fair. Aaaand t'prince, I got no ideas. But maybe we should go find him, he might wanna talk to you." She finished up with a toothy grin.

Embarrassment coloured Lola’s cheeks when Hone not only called her crazy but began poking her in what she assumed where supposed to be sympathetic gestures. She probably looked a miserable sight. Then again, she was miserable. Nevertheless! She was an Elite and she should act the part!

“Let’s go looking for the prince. There is no better excuse for you to go back into the village and have a look around again. After all, you need to help the poor stranger from finding her way.” Lola had been to Harglen before, but she wasn’t about to divulge that information. Besides, it was a shame that an Elite was confined to the outskirts of even a village.
There might be a reason for it, but the antler dragon was too tired to wonder of that now. Besides, she did need a guide to find the others. She was too tired to just go wandering around on her own and hope she’d find them soon – which she would have done under normal circumstances.
Well, under normal circumstances, she would just have done a flyover and found them that way, but oh well.

“Between the two of us, I’m sure we’ll find him quickly enough. Or at least all the other Elites. And I need to rest. I’ve overdone it a little with the flying I think. So maybe you’re right, maybe I am crazy.” Lola shrugged, with a smile, then winced as pain laced through her shoulders at the movement. Better not do that or anything similar any time soon.

Moving was starting to become difficult but after the first few stiff steps, it was getting a little easier with every further step they took, though of course, it didn’t make her feel less tired, but action was better than inaction, and she still had something to do before she could go to sleep.

"Ahreet, ahreet, let's gar find t'prince! He was hangin' round with this huuuuuge big black and blue dragon. With armour, it was reet awesome." Hone was excited at this new development- an actual reason to go and hunt down Atleon! How unusual! How cool. The lash dragon wanted to grab Lola and drag her after her to find the man, but knew it probably wasn't proper for her to go round grabbing others... she had been told off for that breach of personal space before. So, she just settled for waving her wings in the air, fluttering them like a mad bird might in a water fountain. "Now, now! This waaaaayyyyy." She bounced towards the gate of Harglen, barely paying attention to the words that Lola was still speaking. Oh yes, she was supposed to listen... yes, yes.
"Oh, I know where some other Elites are... but they ain't the same as the prince, ista?" Hone said the word with some awe in her voice. "The prince! He's like, t'top o' everything gaarn on, an' we're gon gar see him! I wonder if that big dragon's gaarn be with him too. I hope so, he looked reet exciting t'talk to." Or, more like at, in Hone's case, responses or not from her conversation partners. Her steps were bouncy and light as she led Lola into Harglen, regaling all her various small tales of the village, and pointing out where she had been given breakfast one day, where she had said hello to someone another, and every other thought inbetween.

==X==

Rilos was trying to... well, he had hoped to just do some people watching in one of the squares of Harglen, but it turned out, humans were much too noisy and nosy to relax around to actually get a good spell of watching in. He had come to the conclusion that, if you were one of them, if you were human, you would probably be ignored by the rest of your kind and you could watch people, but if you were not, you would be an anomaly and therefore, worthy of extreme attention. He had tried to be very still and unnoticeable, but unfortunately, there was quite the myriad of issues that cropped up with that; Rilos' size, the fact that he was a dragon, and an unusual one at that, his scars, and he was somewhat of a small celebrity for knowing prince Atleon, and speaking out in his favour. He also, apparently, made an exciting climbing frame- maybe it was because children bewildered him rather, and they looked so tiny, so he was afraid of making them scream if he shook them off.
He put up with a lot of his spines being pulled and pushed around from the little monsters. They made strange squealing noises too, much too close to comfort sometimes, so he shook his head and made them scream even more when his ears hurt. Right in his ears, did they always have to do it there? At least most of the adults didn't seem to mind though, apart from one or two giving him distrustful stares when they saw their spawn messing around his thick claws and came to rescue them from the terrible beast.
That was fair enough, really. Even his smiles looked scary.

Hone was quite the sight when she got excited, Lola had to give her that. She would have appreciated it all even more had she not been so overly tired. Waves of exhaustion kept rippling through her, reminding her that she had completely overexerted herself but she ignored the feeling for the most part. Now was not the time. Yet.

While the lash dragon was all energy, the antler was dragging herself after Hone as slowly as possible without creeping forward at a snail’s pace. Her legs were still working well enough, as long as she didn’t move too quickly. She played over it all a little by having a look around, pretending to look for the prince everywhere – that was better than just dawdling along. Hone kept chattering relentlessly about this and that and after a while, Lola found herself not paying attention anymore. The constant stream of talking felt surprisingly calming though.

When they entered one of the town squares, they were faced with a rather unusual sight. A huge dragon, which was sitting perfectly still while being used as a climbing toy for a surprisingly large number of children.
“Would you look at that,” Lola mused, nudging Hone as she kept her gaze on the dragon. “Never would have thought there were dragons out there who would let children do that. At least not so many at the same time. Aren’t they loud?” While Lola liked children, she usually preferred them not too close by when they were playing in hordes, and not at all on her back. It was just too dangerous, in her opinion.
“Is this the dragon you were talking about?”

Hone talked the whole way through the town pretty much non-stop, and even more when they got to a town square and there he was, the big dragon who had caught her attention from afar before. Her voice became even more shrill- how that was possible was impossible to understand- and she skipped in front of Lola again to lead her forwards.
"Aye, aye, this biggun, reet 'ere. He knows t'prince! Come, come."
She ran almost right up to the dragon, but when she got close, stopped and hovered, her front paws coming together and raising up towards her mouth. Oh, he was big and scary and scarred. She hadn't seen them from far away, but up close, suddenly she was backing off and chewing at her claws, letting Lola go first to talk to this big, foreign creature.

Human spawn were like children, when they leapt all over you and did insist so on pulling at his spines and trying to work out his threadlike wings. Rilos gave a hum of dislike as a couple tried to prize his wing open to work out the wide gap between his bones, flaring it up into the air and making them squeal in surprise. He shouldn't have laughed, but he still let out a huff of amusement as a couple scrambled away, letting his wing down slowly so as not to scare any others.
The arrival of two dragons in the midst of all the humans around earned his attention, his head turning leisurely towards them so as not to knock any more of the scrambling kits from their perches on him. Hone ducked behind Lola even more so to have Rilos' gaze turned on them, feeling small in comparison by size.
"I would not have thought dragons would be quite as interested in I as these pups, yet you are not the first to come and gawp." It was somewhat rude, Rilos thought, how he had turned into a bit of an attraction. It was if there was some humanity that dragons had picked up from being around two-legs for so long.

Lola didn’t pay much attention to Hone’s fussing anymore, though an amused smile appeared on her face when the lash dragon suddenly remained behind her instead of skipping ahead, once they were closer to the really quite large dragon.

For a moment, the antler dragon felt really quite small but she had long since learned not to make a big deal of differences in size. Sebantais wasn’t the smallest of dragons either and she had grown rather used to being around the huge Guardian.

When this one spoke however, the amused smile on Lola’s face was instantly wiped away. “I would not have thought a dragon would be quite so rash in his judgement when faced with two Elites,” she countered, her voice sounding colder than it had in a long time. She was not one to collect praise about being an Elite but she did expect a certain amount of respect and the spined shadow had certainly not been very friendly in accusing them of gawping.
“Unlike what you seem to think, we are not here to gawp,” she continued without waiting for a reply, not wanting to get into an argument. “I’m looking for Prince Atleon, and Hone told me you might know where I could find him.”

"Two Elites? No offense to the either of you, but I have not seen great efforts set to by your fellows, so forgive me if I have any skepticism towards you. Perhaps I have merely been at the wrong place at the wrong time." Wasn't the prince supposed to be around those honour guards frequently, yet he had almost been mobbed the day before by the Harglen peoples at large. Rilos blinked and paid them a little more attention than he did to the pups crawling all over him, now they had an actual purpose rather than just coming to view the newest unwilling attraction of the town, turning his head to look at them properly and pin them with one intelligent blue eye. "Surely, if you were so invested in your work, then the whereabouts of such an esteemed human would be known to you? Yeowch!" His neck recoiled as one of his spines got twisted the wrong way, plucking the offending child from his back and depositing it on the ground between his teeth. It occurred to him that he wasn't the most comfortable he had ever been, and with all the pestering and company he had in the past few days, he was quite beyond his normal long tolerances and mild speech. How did humans do it, living on top of one another so?

He set to ridding himself of his little pests, growls of dislike coming from deep in his chest when they tweaked at his aches and pains. "My apologies, I am not quite myself. Prince Atleon, you say? I am not aware of where he is at this precise moment, but I do not think he would be too difficult to find, with a few pairs of good eyes. He is like a bright flower to a hoarde of bees, even more so than I. So, my apologies, for I have had more than a clawful of requests similar to yours."

“I am not psychic,” Lola muttered, her feathers somewhat ruffled. “I only just arrived in Harglen. I have flown here straight from Yarrowitz without a break. I am exhausted and…”
Just then the dragon yelped as one of the kids seemed to have pulled something it shouldn’t have, interrupting Lola’s rant, which was just as well. She cleared her throat and decided to take a different approach since insulting each other wasn’t going to change either of their moods towards the better nor was it any help.

When the dragon next spoke, just before the antler could open her mouth, she dipped her head. “My apologies also, I am far too tired to be sensitive.” A quick grin escaped her though when she made the connection between the dragons words and the many children milling about and on top of him. “Life as an attraction isn’t always easy. If you want an easy and quick excuse to get rid of your admirers…” Lola shrugged. “You could always come with us. Three pairs of eyes see more than two, and while Atleon might be easy to spot for most, I am tired and Hone is easily distracted.”

Another quick grin, this time aimed at the lash dragon, who was still uncharacteristically quiet – at least in comparison to the chattering Lola had heard before they had come across the object of their search.

PostSubject: Re: Best of the Best [Eldar x Rogue]   Best of the Best [Eldar x Rogue] Icon_minitimeTue Jan 20, 2015 4:51 pm

It was quite evident that Rilos, intentionally or not, (he liked to think not, although... perhaps... just the tiniest part of him... he must have picked up that small mischief from someone around) had managed to irritate the poor antler Elite. Little wonder she was snappy, if what she claimed was true.
"It is a long distance, for even the best of fliers. The high currents have not been well these few days either. Tumultuouuuuusssssss." The child had leapt on Rilos again, and he hissed in pain as it scratched over a barely-closed wound, baring his teeth again and having his patience wear thin.
"That is enough, human spawn. We are quite done with one another now; run away, before I decide you are all tasty snacks."
He had already decided that before now, but etiquette narrowed his choice of dinner menu. Fish was most preferable in any case, and so far he had eaten enough to sustain himself for a while. He growled away the ones that did not think to leave his hide quickly enough, then rose to his feet and patted the couple away that did not heed his threat. "I thank you for your offer, and accept. I did not intend to become a playground for the larger two-legs to deposit their spawn on for the day."

Hone almost cowered into herself as Rilos stood, the dragon even bigger to look at when he stood. He was very scary and talked strangely. She shrunk next to Lola as he looked to her, introduced by the antler dragon, her ears flicking back, then chirruped, her voice high.
"Dinae eat us, will ye?" Oh guardians, please no!

He laughed throatily, blinking his eye at the smaller dragon before fixating on Lola again. "I do not think I quite count as a pair, but I will lend my help to you. Are you one that sleeps by day also? You will find no peace here to keep that routine. Humans are so noisy in their days."

Lola had a hard time suppressing the laughter that was suddenly bubbling up in her throat when the spined shadow threatened the human offspring to consider them for snacks. Maybe she was just too tired to put much stock into their horrified reactions and what consequences might come of it – though as an Elite she probably should have. Instead, it just sounded tremendously funny to her.

“I’m glad you accept our offer. I am Lollantellah, by the way, but everyone just calls me Lola. And this,” the antler once again pointed at the lash dragon, “is Hone, but I’m sure you’ve encountered her already since she’s arrived here with your group.” She skipped over the whole horribly exhausting trip bit, though the dragon was absolutely right, the torrents had been tumultuous, but she had been so pushed by adrenaline and fear that she had barely noticed.

Lola slightly bumped Hone with a grin on her face when she asked the dragon not to eat them. “I think dragons may not be his taste.”

Groaning, the antler looked back at the big one. “I’m fairly used to being around noisy humans, but I’d really hoped that in such a small place they weren’t quite so loud. Though I’ve gotten into the habit of sleeping at night. Mostly anyway.” She would have loved to hear that this was a small and quiet place. She needed sleep. Sleep! Like so, so badly. But first things first. “Right, let’s go find the prince.”

For some reason, for it being such a small town, Lola was quickly wondering why it took them quite so long to find the prince. Was he in hiding? Was he moving around as they were, and they kept missing each other? The more they walked about, the more Lola wanted to just leave it until after a few hours of well-deserved sleep.

"Rilos. A pleasure to make your acquaintance." He turned to set his gaze on the reluctant lash dragon. "I do not beleive we have met, forgive me if I am wrong. I have seen many more dragons and two-legs in the past half-moon than I have in quite some time." And lash dragons did all look so similar to one another, with their bright, eyewatering colours.
"And as your companion Lola says, dragons are not to my taste. In all truth, I much prefer fish entirely, but that is by-the-by."

With his previous prejudice against the two Elites gone, Rilos quite enjoyed Lola's conversation, even if she looked terribly worn down. But, intent on finding the prince, admirably so. And more toelrant of humans than he was- although, he was unpracticed around them in the first place. Turning his head from side to side widely to make sure he did not hit anything or anyone with his bulk, too large for some parts of Harglen really, he nodded down a street that the two had not come from.
"Do not hold me to it, but I think he may have been heading to that direction, at least from his comments yesterday. The people of this town do not seem to take kindly to him, and I fear he may be trying to resolve these matters with the small council."

The trio slowly made their way through Harglen; slowly because Lola couldn’t rush anymore and because Rilos really needed to pay attention where he put his bulk. Some towns were just too small after all too comfortably accommodate dragons of his stature, which was a shame, but the antler also understood that she couldn’t expect every city to be built enormously big. Yarrowitz and Didienne were one thing but this was Harglen, a little town, almost in the middle of nowhere.

When Rilos pointed down a more narrow street, she nodded. “Do you just want to meet us on the other side? We’ll pass through here quickly and you could fly there?” She didn’t want to leave Rilos behind. Besides, he already knew the prince so that would most definitely help in getting close to him as well. While Lola had seen Atleon before, it had been quite a while and she wasn’t sure if he had changed in the meantime or not. It was never a guarantee with humans if they still looked the same the next time you bumped into them. They were weird like that.

Lola stepped into the street, pretty certain that there wasn’t much else to do than what she had suggested. Upon emerging on the other side of the street, they were in another kind of square, but one that was obviously not very much in use, or held in high esteem as there were no statues or ornaments anywhere. What was spread out everywhere however, were make-shift tents and sick-beds with far too many injured people milling about to make Lola feel in any way comfortable. It was her duty to protect people and dragons alike from harm, and what had happened to these people was most definitely harm. A lot of harm.

“I didn’t know it was this bad,” she told Hone in a low voice. “I mean, I knew that a battle had occurred in Racksom. You hear the reports and you imagine things, but imagining and hearing about it is not quite the same as actually seeing it with your own eyes. Oh this is not good.”

Fly there? Could Rilos fly to the other side of a few buildings? Before now he would have been in the skies already, rather than trying to avoid all these creeping two-legs and all their delicate little stalls, overhangs, umbrellas and carts, but now... He was less than confident in his abilities to not crash horribly into anything in his way. That was not that he found coming out of his mouth however.
"Uhm... yes, of course. I will meet you there." Perhaps he could simply leap over the houses... no, that was absurd. He backed up a pace or two with care as the antler dragon and the lash happily continued onwards without a problem, feeling much too nervous for a small thing like flying over a few houses.

"He's reet big," Hone whispered to Lola as they were left behind by a backing-up Rilos. "How ain't y'scared of him?" He was still fearsome looking, even if they had found him playing with tiny human pups. "Oh... I'm not sure I'm 'llowed in this here bit." Hone was pretty sure that, although the Elites were welcome anywhere, in the middle of the hush of sick tents wasn't the best place for her to be.
"Aye, there been lots of people comin' in from Racksom. All t'time." Maybe this was why she had never seen Atleon, if he hid in these tents helping the wounded and ill. "Feels like we shouldn't be here. You sure y'got somethin' real important to say to t'Prince?"

Finally having worked himself up to the whole flying thing, and having checked the area more than once just to make sure that he wasn't going to hit anything on the way up, Rilos flared his wings... steeled his fears and jumped. Almost immediately he could feel the itch and pull of his scales, protesting against fresh use when perhaps he should have been resting still. It was a frightening whirl of not knowing quite where he was going, but still having a set goal in mind, and it was only the shortest of distances. That didn't mean that he came down with any sort of grace or candor on the other side of the little street though, tail swivelling from side to side and definitely the cause of cracks and screams and general chaos behind. He felt bad, but also felt bad about landing without breaking himself again anyway.
Thankfully his legs were strong enough as he came down with little finesse and a heavy jolt, claws making rents in the ground as he steadied himself. That was... pretty bad.

Distracted for a moment, Lola didn’t immediately reply to Hone’s question but after a moment, she snapped back to attention and grinned at the lash dragon. “You know, after you’ve been around a Guardian dragon for a while, any other dragon doesn’t really seem quite as big anymore. But you’re right, Rilos is rather large…” Her voice trailing off, she suddenly wondered if it had been a good idea to suggest Rilos just quickly fly over. What if the dragon knocked down a roof or something?

With a heavy sigh, Lola decided that by now it was too late to worry about it. Besides, with what she saw in the square, there were other, bigger things to worry about. “Yes, I’m absolutely sure,” the antler replied and nudged Hone. “Nobody will shout at you for coming here. Don’t worry. Besides, you’re escorting a visitor with an important message.”

“I think…” Just as she was about to make her way to a two-legged she thought she had identified as the prince, Rilos touched down this side of the buildings and the vibration of his landing made her wobble even more than she had been before. Digging her claws in for a little support, she grunted at the discomfort that suddenly shot up her legs.

Removing any kind of possible accusation that could have found itself in her stare, the antler looked up at Rilos. “Maybe we should all just take a very, very long nap, for several days or even weeks, before we attempt anything as ridiculous as flying, huh?” Summoning a little strength to lift her wings a little further off the ground – or rather, to actually lift them just a tiny bit off the ground as they had started dragging behind her again – Lola turned her attention back to the tents. “I think I saw the prince over there just now…”

Without waiting for a reply from either of the two dragons, Lola began to hurry towards the figure she hoped would turn out to really be Atleon. Humans looked so much alike… especially when seen from behind.

"Well, I guess..." responded Hone, not entirely convinced she would ever not find Rilos huge and intimidating. For someone so constantly cheerful and happy-go-lucky, sometimes she couldn't help but question everything in an awkward string of events.
"Yeah. You're doin' important things with t'Prince!" That perked the lash dragon up again, her confidence restored. "Let's gar find him quick. Must be here somewhere, an' I don't think he's a wounded one, so that cuts it in more'n half." She said it brightly, then realised the connotation. So many injured. It was horrific, and they barely had the healers or supplies to cope.
She skittered at the heavy thunk of Rilos' landing, eyes wide at the mess he made of it. it was like, had she been able to fly, a new landing of her own! A nearby healer or helper (she wasn't quite sure which), rushed to rescue a box of equipment dangerously close to one back foot, yelling obscenities at the dragon to 'be more careful' and 'put your great bulk somewhere it fits'.

"That was unkind," the spined shadow commented in a low voice as he scooted a little closer to his companions, once again minding his step. His spines rustled in discomfort a tthe antler's comment too, feeling displaced. "Er, yes. Well. I have not have much practice flying since Racksom, and it is somewhat different missing half the sky." Oh, he felt uncomfortable. "These dwellings of humans are so difficult to navigate."

He followed after Lola as she picked herself up and forged ahead into the camp, ignoring the questioning glances that followed them.
The man she had spotted wasn't much better dressed than any of the others in the complex, but quite obviously garnered respect from all the rest. To Rilos, like Lola, it wasn't immediately obvious it was the right man- They had met before, of course, but the spined shadow was bat at telling one human from the next. To Hone, of course, she had no idea.

"Is that him?" she squeaked within easy earshot, her face alight once again. "Why's he doin' healer things? I thought he was supposed to do Prince-y things?" Like looking regal and passing laws, and waving slowly to his subjects.

For a moment, Lola hesitated. Was she really going to step in front of the prince? As in the prince of Dragons’ Cove? It was already a relief to hear from Hone that he wasn’t amongst the wounded. It would make talking to him a little less awkward. She was already taller than him, but imagining having to talk to him while he was lying flat on his back…

With Rilos and Hone at her back, the antler dragon edged closer to the man, slowing down her pace a little the closer they got. Was this really the prince? He seemed so… so ordinary somehow. It had been many years since she’d last been in his presence and she wasn’t quite sure he knew who she was. Did he know all the Elites? He probably wouldn’t, would he?

When Hone suddenly piped up, Lola couldn’t help the snort coming out of her nose. With a smile, she turned towards the lash dragon. “Atleon has always been known for being more down-to-earth. It is a princely thing indeed to stoop down from your high horse and get to work with your own two hands, helping others when they are in need. It’s far mo…” Feeling a major blush coming on, Lola abruptly cut herself off and looked sheepishly at the other two dragons. “So..”

“I am honoured,” a voice suddenly called from behind her, a smile evident in its tone, “to hear someone praise me in such a way. May I inquire as to your names and your purpose here amongst the refugees?”

Atleon nodded briefly at Rilos and the lash dragon, whom he recognised from earlier in their adventures, the unlucky one who had been chastised by her squad leader in front of everyone.

Lola’s head whipped towards Atleon and she instantly dipped one of her front legs into an awkward, wobbly bow. “My prince. The honour is mine!” Clearing her throat, she continued: “My name is Lolantellah, and I have come to seek you out in the name of the great Sebantais. He has sent me here with news.”

She purposefully left out the fact that the news was very grave indeed but it wouldn’t do to alarm the already fearful faces around them. Because of course, as soon as the prince had started talking to the group, all eyes had been on them, and all ears would be perked as well so as not to miss a single word. Of that she was certain.

Atleon nodded briefly and beckoned the three dragons to follow him. Seeing that the square was filled to the brink almost with wounded and tired refugees, the prince lead the trio out of it, purposefully choosing one of the larger roads to make things as comfortable for them as possible.

It was only when they had reached the edge of town that he stopped and turned towards them.

Hone let out a yip of surprise when Atleon addressed them, even though she had been expecting it. Taking her cue from Lola, she dipped her nose almost right to the ground out of respect. Oh my, this was the most exciting thing that had happened to her in days! Her bow didn't last long, too excited to actually get to be allowed to talk to the Prince, and like, look at him and stuff. Her ears waggled and waved as she straightened up, all ready to listen to Lola's announcement (finally), as well as all the wisdom the Prince would impart. Of course.

She bounced as they were led out of the square (probably not a good idea to have her around the injured for too long a time, they were at risk of having their ears bleed as well as everything else), all eyes for Atleon, and barely any attention paid to where they were actually going. She was like a rocket of enthusiasm once they stopped though, immediately trying to prove herself as a good Elite.
"I'mma check everythin's safe! Y'stay reet here and I'll come back in a teeny tiny little bit when it's good!" She scritched her claws in the dirt and took off, leaping around to make sure there wasn't any 'danger' or otherwise questionable things that needed investigating.

"That dragon has hopper blood in her, if ever I knew it. This Lola has been searching across all of Harglen for you, so it seems, Prince." Rilos was a slightly more calmed voice, although he found Hone bewildering sometimes. "I have nothing of import, although if ever you needed tiny two-legs, then they seem rather keen to follow your cause. If only for the thought of dragons." He huffed a little, when that was the best thing he could report.
