Some time had passed and Aya was lazily letting an thermal take her further up in the sky. She really did enjoy flying and with Ko at her side it was even better. She found it a bit odd that Kol flew very close to the ground. He was unlike most avians she had come to known, but she was secretly pleased to be alone with Ko. Aya looked over to see Ko wasn't fully paying attention and decided to have fun with him. She let Ko fly just slightly in front of her and dropped back a bit. Aya watched him for a few moments before decided on what to do. ((I actually have no idea as to how I want to mess with him. xD Got any ideas?))
Farah yawned as she patted her birds neck. She was sore from sitting in the saddle and would be pleased to be on the ground...or at least to stand.
It was true, Kol had been flying close to the ground. In fact, if it weren't for him having to keep up with the birds he would want to walk. Flying just wasn't his thing, he felt like he could be attacked at any moment and from any side up in the air. There was nothing to keep him grounded, literally.

Ko and Aya play around and then they spot some not so friendly looking warrior...fields...people...and they are in the middle of battle.

((Right, so, Arina told them all about how the Plainsmen, the old group that Narrick used to belong to, had become no more than a pack of thieves since he'd left. After asking for all their money, when Arina denied them, the Plainsmen attacked, and they're now battling. Arina, Farah and Ko had used some preemptive attack magic to down a couple, and Aya knocked someone off their horse.))

Even with some of their men down, the raiders kept charging. Narrick and Auren readied their weapons for a full-out confrontation as Arina prepared for another spell that would shake the earth from underneath their mounts. But Ko, high in the sky, saw something different amongst their ranks that warranted his concern. "They're awful confident for just having had their numbers dropped down..." That's when he saw the glimmer, a tiny disruption in the flow of light. He cursed loudly and in a couple different languages, folding his wings to speed toward the ground. "It's an illusion!" He called, knowing that it was probably too late to warn his friends in enough time for them to prepare for what was about to happen.

He gathered the energy around him and aimed it not at the charging horsemen. Whoever it was controlling the illusion had enough smarts to know how to keep their light-bending energy constant after a direct attack. Instead, he aimed it just behind the charging line, the air warping and distorting until it broke with a loud crack of thunder and light flooded the area for a brief second. His plan worked, though that was hardly anything to celebrate about.

The illusion dissipated as planned, but it revealed a much larger force than the dozen or so charging riders. Their line had multiplied before their eyes once the illusion was gone, their line now numbering closer to thirty. A few hundred yards back, another group of ten was clustered together in which he could make out four swordsmen, the rest he assumed was their magic force, seeing as they bore no weapons. One of the spell casters gestured frantically at Ko, and the avian suddenly found himself encased in a tomb of fire, the temperature skyrocketing in the middle of the inferno in what was only a split second. He had no time to think about his next move, withdrawing the counterpart stone in his other sleeve and casting a blanket of nullifying energy around himself, disabling the effects of the flames, but not dissipating them. He was flying blind and completely vulnerable to any sort of attack that wasn't magical in nature.

On the ground, things weren't much better. Arina heard Ko's warning, but the implications did not hit her until the illusion was gone and she could see the full force. A strangled cry of fear was wrought from her throat as she hurriedly tried to move the earth below the charging forces and stall their approach to perhaps effect an escape. Her efforts were to prove unsuccessful as the very air seemed to split apart with raw energy, a thundering boom echoing across the fields in the wake of a blinding flash of light. She became aware of somebody screaming, and it wasn't until her body met the ground in a painful jolt that knocked the air from her lungs that she realized it was she who was making all the noise. She tried desperately to inhale and panicked as her whole body tingled and spazzamed, completely out of control and having no idea that she'd just been struck by the lightning-like energy magic.

Narrick brought his bird around once he saw the overwhelming force they were against, fully intending to run away. Arina's goading would have made sure that a peaceful result to this conflict would not be quick in coming. He was just reaching over to grab the reigns from a befuddled Auren when he heard Arina's scream and watched almost in slow motion as she was thrown from her bird mount by the blinding flash, and knew almost instinctively that he and Auren were probably going to be next.

As for the warrior, he was completely taken aback by the sheer amount of enemies they were suddenly faced with. Before, it seemed like nothing their group couldn't handle, but with Arina down and the fireball in the sky consuming Ko, it left only he, Narrick, Kol, and Aya left to defend themselves, a grim prospect indeed. Even as he thought this, a second air-rending, bone rattling boom from the energy mage on the other side struck dangerously close to his mount. So close in fact, he could feel the tingle as the energy dissipated into the air and thoroughly scared his flighty mount, setting it to running at a breakneck pace in the opposite direction, throwing the inexperienced rider. He landed awkwardly, and felt something pop out of place, possibly his shoulder as he collided with the ground. Biting back the pain, he managed to rise to his feet, clutching his left shoulder with his right hand, his sword having gone flying in the fall. Once he was up, he got to see that they were completely surrounded by the riders, all goading and brandishing their weapons, closing in quickly on the outnumbered pair. He could see out of the corner of his eye that a couple had already captured Arina and had apparently knocked the girl out cold.

Narrick saw that there was no way he could fight his way out, and sheathed his swords, glaring at the men that surrounded him.

"You're the smart one then, eh?" One of the rowdy bunch called to the elf. "Off yer bird! You too, wench!" He glared at Farah, eying her bow.

Seeing no other options but to comply, Narrick did just that, dismounting fluidly and walking to stand in the middle of the ring next to Auren.

"Now," the same one began, gesturing toward Aya. "Tell her to get her feathered ass down here. You're other winged bloke is as good as dead."

Kol swung his sword at yet another enemy that was coming at him but this time his blade hit nothing and sliced through thin air. He almost lost his balance as a puzzled look came to his face once he looked up at the now vanished enemy he was about to fight. His confused look soon turned to worry once he saw the even greater amount of forces that were now heading right for them. Just as he was about to take on the first man heading his way he heard from behind him Arinia’s scream. He whirled around in time to see her being knocked from her bird. He cursed under his breath and turned back to face the enemy. Unfortunately he was too late to stop the man from getting hit in the gut from some weapon and it threw him several feet back. He had to lie there for several moments to catch the breath that just left him.

Farah shot another arrow at a rider coming towards her when she noticed that it went right through him and then the man disappeared. Before she had time to be confused, she saw the legion of men coming their way. She was about to engage in battle with the first man when she saw from the corner of her eye Arinia go down and soon after Auren as well. She mumbled some very unlady-like words before dodging the attack of the man and returned fire when she shot her arrow into the man’s back. While stringing her next arrow she saw Narrick sheath his sword and surrender. She stopped, and stared at him for a few minutes before she felt a sharp jab to her side from one of the men. Farah heard one of the men tell her to get off the bird and, of course also adding in that she was a wench. She growled and dismounted from the bird. Her tailed flicked back and forth out of anger and her ears were flat against her head. She stood by Auren and looked up in at sky at Aya and Ko.

Kol rolled on to his stomach and then slowly stood as he soon found he, too, was surrounded. He sheathed his sword and was led back to the rest of the group after several jabs to the back. He looked around the group, resting his look on Narrick for a few extra moments. The two of them were usually the lead in battles and he felt a little guilty that they were stuck in this situation. (Even if it wasn’t his fault)

Aya had been up in the air with Ko so she, too, could watch the events unfold. She was rather shocked to see the number of men who were actually attacking when Ko disposed of the illusion that they were originally fighting. She took notice of how they were organized; riders, then swordsmen and then magic users. Magic users were not ideal to have as an enemy. She frowned and then prepared her wind stone just before Ko had been engulfed in flames.
“Ko!” She yelled frantically as she covered her face from the intense heat. She looked down quickly to see that the entire group had been surrounded. The dread she was feeling was now ten fold. The first thing she needed to do was get Ko out of there. Aya back-peddled in the air and prepared herself to be able to gain momentum. As she got closer to the flames she covered her face and slammed into Ko knocking him out of the flames. After taking a few seconds she started to look over Ko for wounds.

“Are you alright? Are you hurt?” She looked over him several times for burns until she was satisfied that he was fine. She hugged him to her with tears welling up in her eyes. “You had me worried there…” She mumbled against his chest.

One the riders began to get impatient. “The wench isn’t listening...” He commented back to one of the other riders. He rummaged around in his pack and pulled out a rope. He had a smirk on his face. “This should bring these two love birds out of the sky.” He attached a gaff to the end of it and began whirling it around his head to gain momentum.

Kol looked back and forth from the avians and then back to the man with the gaff. His eyes widen as he realized what was about to happen. “Aya! K-!” He was cut short in his warning when one of the men kicked him square in the chest. He doubled over and started coughing.
“We wouldn’t want the two birdies to fly away now!” The man said with a humorless smile. He kicked Kol once more just for good measure. The man with the rope let out a laugh once he released the rope.

Aya looked down just in time to see the rope coming toward them. She gave one hard push for get Ko away just as the gaff hook into her thigh. She let out a yelp of pain and then plummeted towards the ground. She tried to flap her wings to slow the fall but the pain ripping through her leg stopped her from doing so. A few moments later and she hit the ground with a loud thud.

The man smirked, as he was pleased with his catch. “Well looky ‘ere! I caught a little wench!” He yelled to the men as he pulled Aya in closer to him as he tired the rope on his saddle. He took out another rope and tied Aya’s hands together after forcing her to stand. “What a pretty lady…but no magic using for you.” he mumbled with a dirty look on his face and then looked at her leg. “No need to waste such a catch. I doubt the other one would fly away without his mate. ” The man looked up at Ko and then he ripped the hook from Aya’s leg and listened to her pained yell. She fought back a sob as more blood ran down her leg. The man roughly wrapped a bandage around it to help stop the bleeding.

Even though he could not feel the flames, Ko was sweating inside the protective layer of cool anti-energy that he had surrounded himself with. He knew very well that just outside his little protective barrier was a death trap just waiting to broil him alive. To make the matters worse, it seemed that the mage casting the spell engulfing him realized that the avian hadn't been killed yet, and was increasing the intensity of the flames. It was down to a battle of endurance, and whether or not Ko lived would be determined on if the mage finally just ran out of energy to keep the spell going, or if Ko ran out of that ability first.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, the curtain of fire was punctuated by a white blur that tackled him violently from the center of the inferno, knocking the wind from his lungs. When he was able to comprehend what had just happened, he snapped his wings to their full extension, slowing their extreme decent that was on a crash course with the ground. Gasping, he caught his breath, pulling Aya close. "Yeah, I'll be fine, thank you." Ko knew that they didn't have very long to mull over his near-death experience, and for the second time in the span of a few minuets, he found himself being shoved violently out of the air by the girl, helpless to prevent the dangerous flying hook from embedding deeply into her leg and then being dragged to the ground. "Aya!" The yell was ripped from him without conscious thought, and he immediately started to wing for the ground, loosing his rational thought in a split second of blinding anger, and began to gather energy for another spell.

"Don't do it, you idiot!" Auren yelled at the top of his lungs at the very enraged Ko diving for them, having seen the tell-tale distortion of the air that signaled an impending attack. He didn't much care if they all had the snot shocked out of them, but it could only make the situation worse with several more mages all about to pounce on him from too far away. His efforts were rewarded by a powerful blow to the back of the head from one of the riders, sending the already wounded warrior staggering forward under the blow, his vision blurred and swimming. Were it not for Narrick, he would have fallen face first on the ground. As it was, his legs felt strangely numb as the world swirled before his eyes, and he had a feeling very akin to sea sickness welling up inside.

"Are you trying to get yourself killed?" The elf hissed in his ear, trying hard to steady the man on his feet again. He clenched his fists and winced when he heard Aya's scream of pain as the hook was torn out, not needing to see the bloody picture to be able to understand what had just happened to the poor girl. By then, Arina's limp body had been dragged closer to the small ring of prisoners, the men dragging her along laughing at something their friends had said, treating the woman with no gentility or concern for her well being. She had been right... the Plainsmen that he had once been a part of years ago was no longer the roughnecks that swarmed around them now, laughing at the misfortune of others that they had been the cause of. Farah had joined their circle as well, and the utter hopelessness of the situation became apparent. Only Ko was free of their grip now.

The bandits had noticed this fact too, and one of them standing close to Aya took the first initiative to have the second avian brought down. "Oi! You too feather bag! If you don't get down here and hand over your stones, the girl is going to be the first to part with her head!" There was a chorus of cheering after that little speech, and a warning blast of fire went off a little too close to the avian for comfort.

"Why? You've already got our mounts, gear, and supplies? What more do you want from us?" Narrick asked, earning a back handed slap for his bravery. The coppery taste of blood filled his mouth, a wound on the inside of his cheek where he'd bit it now leaking into his mouth. He spit the red liquid out, casting an evil glare at his striker.

"Because, elf, you've pissed us off right good, see? So we've go to take a little more of your belongings, knock that pride down a notch. Nobody, and I mean nobody on these plains backtalks us without some punishment." He grinned a crooked grin, his chest puffing out to equal the size of his ego. Turning slightly, his eyes landed on the still unconscious Arina, the grin on his face widening slightly. "See elf, first, we're going to take you and the other blokes, tie you down, and strip you naked before forcing you to walk all the way to the next town. But the ladies... they got it worse, I figure. See, us men out here on the plains get lonely some nights, and some female company wouldn't be minded at all."

Narrick's face darkened with barely restrained rage, his whole body shaking with the effort to not burst into a fury at the man's words. "Despicable cur! You dung-sucking scud-backed cheek biters parade around under the banner of the Plainsmen, but you're anything but. You're just a bunch of uncivilized pretenders-!" Anything else he was going to say was lost when he was punched on the other side of the face this time, forcing him to spit more of his own blood on the ground and staggered a few steps from the force of the blow.

"And wot do you know of the Plainsmen, eh, nosy city rat?" The man's face had darkened now, hinting at the anger that Narrick's insults had brought on.

The elf rubbed his jaw, meeting the man's gaze completely undaunted by the two blows that he had received from him thus far. "I'd know more about them than you ever will, you canker-ridden bunter. I was one of them before the likes of your yellow-bellied, tallow-faced idiots even knew which side of a bird was which."

Surprisingly, Narricks words were not met with another strike to the face. Instead, the man glowered at him for a long moment, before gesturing to the man next to him to come closer. "This bloke claims to be one of the old guard. I think he deserves a little special treatment for his mouthiness."

The second rider looked once at Narrick's quickly swelling features, to the seriousness of the other man, and a grin broke over his face. "The whip or the cat-o-nine-tails, boss?"

"Give him a taste of the kitty. She stings more. Bind him!" At his words, three men congregated on the elf, grabbing his arms and holding him still as another pair of men ripped his shirt in two, exposing the flesh beneath. "And start dressing down the ladies, while you're at it." This caused a greater uproar within the crowd, and eager hands reached for the women of the group, grabbing arms, legs, hair and clothes alike in a frenzy like a pack of wild animals that had set upon fresh meat. Arina, unconscious and unable to struggle, was the first one put to the knife, a man holding the limp woman beneath her arms as a second indelicately slashed away at the binding that held her clothing together.

"No!" Both Narrick and Auren yelled, the warrior having recovered some of his senses enough to struggle against the men that were in the process of binding his arms behind his back, and the elf still struggling to be released before the "kitty" could be found and applied to his bare back.

Ko touched down a few seconds before hell broke loose, trying to formulate a plan of some sort or another that would save them from this mess. Other than committing suicide by unleashing a huge blast of magic that would stun not only the raiders, but his friends as well, he didn't have much of a plan. He was immediately set upon by several of the men that weren't entrenched in trying to undress the girls. His energy stone was ripped from his hand, the leather strap attaching it to his arm snapping as the snatcher gave a great yank, the awkward motion of his wrist setting him to wincing. He caught a glimpse of bare skin, and saw that Arina's attackers had managed to remove a layer of her clothing so far, eagerly sawing away at the second layer now. His eyes darted to Farah and Aya, faring a little better in the struggle to keep their clothes on, but not by much. All the chaos surrounding him, the atrocities going on before his eyes and the hands that were roughly patting him down, searching for his second stone had finally broken his resolve to remain calm.

A coldness crept over his body, and it took a few second for he and the others surrounding him to realize that it was not just an emotional kind of cold, but that the temperature had physically dropped as well in his immediate vicinity. One unfortunate man drew a weapon, planning to kill Ko since they couldn't find his second stone. In the time that it took for you to blink, Ko had snapped an arm out and brushed against the man's forehead with his fingertips. In that same instant, the man had dropped dead. The others around him began to panic now and draw their weapons as well, but, instead of panicking or weighing his choices, he simply laughed, feeling that icy draft build up inside of him and flow outwards, striking at the men closest to him. They did not die, but they fell to the ground completely immobile, their eyes lifeless and bodies still save for shallow breathing and a dramatically reduced heart rate that would most probably lead to death in the next few minuets if they weren't looked after.

A few more noticed the sudden lack of men surrounding the second avian, and moved quickly to try and restrain him. They met the same fate as their fellows, one more of the riders loosing his life to a quick brush on the forehead. Above him, the air split and was shaken by a rattling boom, the magic striking Ko dead on target, but oddly enough, he didn't flinch. He absorbed the magic like a conduit, and even after the initial strike, the energy of the spell kept flowing through him, a blue glow surrounding his body. He locked eyes with the mage that had cast the spell, locking eyes with the man as he flailed about, trying desperately to break the contact of the spell. Eventually, the flailing became a limp wave, and then the man fell from his mount, lying eerily still on the ground where he fell. A cry of anger went up from another four men that charged him immediately, and Ko became vaguely aware of a pain in his top left wing. Looking, he noticed that an arrow shaft was poking out of the feathers, dark red blood dripping over the crimson feathers of his wing. But, he had no time to worry about that now. The men that were rushing him had to be taken care of first.

The first swung wildly at him with a sword, a strike easy enough to dodge. Lightly, he stepped around the swinging blade, sending a burst of magic into his sword arm, which immediately went limp. A quick shoulder grab, and the man was down for the count, unmoving but for light breathing. Two more came at him a little more in coordination with each other. The first didn't manage a hit, but the second one did, scoring a glancing blow across Ko's chest that ripped through fabric and flesh, drawing blood and causing the avian to wince in pain. He didn't let the man withdraw, stepping inside his range and touching lightly on his hand, draining the energy from that limb as well. The enraged cry of the other that had attacked him alerted him to the next danger, and he grabbed the now panicking rider in front of him, swinging his whole body to intercept with the sword blow. There was a sickening thwack as the sword pierced flesh, but Ko did not stop to marvel at his work. With wings spread, he lept over the dying man in front of him, touching briefly some portion of the second man's face, making him collapse instantly.

The last one squared off against the avian, taking his time in sizing up his opponent, unlike the other three. "Come on then, what are you, a coward?!" Ko called in a mocking tone, eager to kill this one too. Before he could make good on his intentions, however, he went weak at the knees, his vision suddenly darkening. He gasped, loosing hold of his stone as he fell to his knees, whole body shaking from exertion. Was this it then? Had he finally surpassed his limit?

Rough hands everywhere was the only thing Farah could feel as the men had started to attempt to take her clothing off. She growled viciously at them, snapping her teeth together and fighting the first few off successfully but it was not meant to be. Several more men came from behind her and began to bind her arms. As she was being attacked she heard uproar not far from her. As she looked around she saw far too many things going on at once. Narrick being whipped, Auren looking half dead and now Ko was somehow fighting off several men. Anger swirled in the pit of her stomach like a black rage. The atrocities being committed here were horrendous and yet she was unable to do anything. She felt hands all over her body, ripping at her clothing. Tears of rage formed her in eyes. Never had she felt so helpless before.

Aya wasn’t feeling much better then Farah was. The bleeding in her leg had not gone and the pain ran up and down her leg every time she moved. Tears streamed down her face in a constant flow from the pain and the humiliation that was soon to come from these men. Fighting the men had become increasingly hard with her blood loss and her hands tied down already. Not only were the females having it rough but the men were not fairing it much better. Aya’s despair grew ten fold as she saw Ko taking on many of the riders at once. He was bleeding in several places but nothing seemed to stop him, she had to stare in awe at the power he was wielding. It wasn’t long lived though, once she saw Ko pass out from exhaustion.

“Ko! No!” She struggled even harder against the riders that were currently around her. All she could see was Ko laying face down on the ground, bleeding from the several wounds he had received. She flapped her wings hard, in order to take flight and get to him. Her struggles were in vain as one of the men elbowed her solar plexus. She doubled over as she struggled for breath.

“Tie her wings down you fools!” One of the riders yelled after witnessing the events with the female Avian. He stopped for a moment and then a smirk found its way to his face, and idea came to him. He walked over to the unconscious avian and dragging him over by the hair to Aya. “Tell ya what, birdie, how would you like to see us kill ‘em?” He took a blade to Ko’s neck and pushed hard to draw blood. The silver steal was soon covered in his blood.

Aya looked up in horror and panic set in, “No…Please! I will do anything just leave him alone!” Her eyes widened as she realized to what she had just said. Why was she not thinking?

“Anything? Great!” He let out a loud, rather gruff laugh, “Hear that boys?! This one is free game without the fight! We will have fun tonight!!!” He cupped Aya’s chin and kissed her roughly. “What a brave birdie, saving her lover…” He tossed Ko down on the ground. “Someone bind him. I don’t want him waking up and going berserk on us.”

Aya’s head hung as she felt an overwhelming amount of emotions at once. At least she saved Ko…at least. She let the men tie down her wings and virtually went limp. Her mind went completely blank as more tears streamed down her face.

Kol was enraged at the scene that was unfolding before him. The women were being taken right in front of them and abused. This was one of his worst nightmares. He drew his sword, in a blind rage and stabbed the closest man to him. He killed three more men before he was tackled down and his sword was kicked away from him. The sheer numbers of the riders would ensure their group could never win this battle. One of the men on top of Kol grabbed his hair and gave a swift punch to his face. Blood trickled out of his nose after hearing a distinct crunch of a broken bone.

“You bastard! You think you can take us on?!! Well you can join your elf buddy over there!” The man screamed in his ear. “Grab him and get the whip, we can see which one of the two will stay conscious the longest.” He snickered as Kol was brought next to Narrick.

“My friend…I am sorry…” Kol managed to whisper to Narrick as his shirt was, too, ripped from his back.

“Okay men! The elf gets the kitty and the avian gets the whip! Lash until they can no longer keep themselves up!” One of the riders ordered and sat back in his saddle as he waited for the show to begin.

The two men behind Narrick and Kol began lashing at them. Kol choked out a yell of pain as the whip made contact with his skin. The initial sting was tolerable but seconds later the whip would rip the skin from his back, leaving the wound raw and painful. Not soon after could Kol hear Narrick’s yell of pain as he, too, was whipped over and over.

The head rider grew impatient after ten minutes of constant lashings on the both of them. Somehow they were both still conscious. He growled and dismounted and walked over to Narrick first. The whippings stopped to allow their leader to do as he pleased. The rider crouched down in front of Narrick first and looked him over. Blood covered his face and a fresh bruise was forming on his face from being punched earlier.

“That little elf over there, she is your’s, isn’t she? Well tonight I plan to take her, myself, and enjoy her sweet little body while I watch her cry from beneath me. It will be pure pleasure and then I will happily take the demon. The Avian,” He scoffed, “has already given up to her save her precious mate…so I will be able to enjoy her body for as long as I possibly want. Days, weeks, heck months!” A smirk came to his face as he saw Narrick try to struggle against the men holding him back. Goading him was easier then he thought it would be. The other man, the avian, had already tried struggling against the men for the first few minutes so he wasn’t going to last much longer. “Whip them several more times, and then taking everything we have. We will leave with the wenches to a more….’comfortable’ location, and then enjoy ourselves with a fest of every sort!” He raised his sword and the crowd cheered, becoming more riled up.

After about a half hour more of being whipped, the riders let the men drop to the ground. They were roughly undressed and left with just their skivvies. Ko was still face down in the dirt, now tied up just incase he would actually wake. Kol was now unconscious as his back was covered in fresh and dried blood.

The men had divided into groups based on which one wanted each female. Fortunately for the time being they had stopped undressing them and tied them down so as they could retrieve their fortune’s from the men. Arina was still unconscious, and recently Aya was knocked unconscious after fighting once more against them to help Narrick and Kol.

Farah looked on the scene in repulsion…how this could happen, she asked herself several times. She was the only one left awake and she wished it wasn’t so. She felt sick from the sent of blood and her eyes burned from the tears she had been shedding. She had watched every one of her comrades be beaten within an inch of their life.

Several hours after being forced to ride with some of the men each of the females was dropped onto the ground in a harsh manor as they set up camp. Farah took note they were probably 20 or so miles south of where they were attacked. There was very little cover and a stream ran close to here. There were literally in the middle of no where.

“Alright men! Set up camp, make the fire and then we will enjoy these wenches all night long!” The howls of their cheers could probably be heard for miles as you could then see them scamper around the campsite to get things done quickly.

After about an hour or so the men had literally attacked each of the women. Ripping their clothing off and taking advantage of them in every manor. Several men were on one woman at once and there was a line for each of them to take turns. The night seemed like it would never end. A constant barrage of men, each violating them. Once the sun started to rise it finally seemed like they were done. Farah laid in the dirt, covered in unmentionable nasty-ness. She was too tired, sore, and emotionally broken to move. Arina was a few yards away from them and she looked like she was in the same condition. Fresh bruises were forming on their bodies from where they were grabbed and pulled. Aya was still in the main leader’s tent for another half hour before she was pushed out onto the dirt. Her leg had dried blood all up and down it from her earlier injury. Aya's spirit was broken and her eyes glazed over as she stared into the blood red sky that the morning sunlight had painted.

PostSubject: Re: Aero and Tajy ((In Dream World))   Aero and Tajy ((In Dream World)) Icon_minitimeWed Apr 28, 2010 3:22 am

The world was an indistinct blur to his weary mind. He was unaware of when his arms had also given out on him, and the ground and his face suddenly came together in a collision that didn't seem to hurt nearly as bad as it should have. Vaguely, Ko was aware of the screaming and rioting going on around him, somebody had picked him up as well, though he had hardly the strength to even open his eyes to see who it was that had grabbed him. There was pressure against his neck, followed by the feeling of something warm running down his front. When he was tossed carelessly to the ground once more, all his senses left him, and Ko's world went completely dark.

Narrick was not so lucky. Somewhere along the way, the men holding his arms had looped strips of leather around his wrists and pulled them tight, stretching his arms out to either side in order to present a larger target to the whipping man eying his unscathed skin. Not like he'd need it; the man delighted in whipping their unfortunate victims, and the cat-o-nine-tails was not nearly as unpredictable to control as the bull whip. The first crack of the whip laid open five wounds in the elf's back, welts appearing quickly where the skin had not broken. Narrick couldn't stop the cry of pain that left his lips, and bit down hard to try and drown out the pain. The second strike was even worse, laying open even more of the of the flesh on his back, tendrils of the leather digging deeper into the already gaping wounds. After a while of the mind numbing whipping, he was conscious only of the initial strike, the pain far too great for him to comprehend, though somehow he had managed to remain conscious through the beating. Streams of bright red blood flowed freely from his many wounds, trickling down his back and soaking through the material of his pants to flow down his legs and into pools of sticky blood quickly congregating around his feet.

Then, suddenly, the rhythmic whipping stopped, though the elf didn't dare to try and muster the strength to look around for the cause until he heard a voice addressing him. When he did manage to raise his head, he met the cold eyes of one of the riders, hatred broiling deeply within his own gaze as the man described the atrocities that he would subject the girls to. He wished he could speak, to defy him once more, but all of his concentration was centered mostly on keeping himself standing. He didn't even jerk at the ties restraining his wrists. Doing so would hurt the open wounds on his back even more and the leather strips, already digging painfully into the soft skin would tighten, completely cutting the circulation in his already numb hands. When the torture was finally put to a stop, the blond elf had lost all his senses, a half-dead shell left to drop lifelessly to the ground when the leather bands holding him up were suddenly let free.

Auren watched the whole ordeal silently, turning his face away from the bloody raw spectacle with a degree of shame and guilt. If rising from his kneeling position and fighting back against the men that held him down would have helped his friends in any way, he would have done it. But, in a bout of clear future sight never before experienced by the hotheaded warrior, he realized that once the Riders left them, he would most likely be the only one left still able to stand. It angered him feeling so helpless, but there was nothing more that he could do than wait for it all to be over.

When the riders finally left them, carrying off Farah, Aya and Arina, Auren rose from his kneeling position, first walking over to Ko and untying the avian. He was cold and pale, breathing shallow and for all the world looked as if death was upon him. The wound in his neck was still bleeing, so Auren searched around for ripped bits of clothing to patch it up with before attending to the arrow shaft in his wing. Snapping off the head, he pulled it gently from the wound, eliciting no response from the passed out avian. A flow of blood following the direct removal of the arrow had him patching it up with more cloth bits that he found lying around. Once he was satisfied that there was nothing more he could do for Ko, he moved on to Narrick and Kol, gathering what he could as useful material in stopping all the bleeding.

*~*~*~*

When night had fallen upon them, Auren had managed to put rough patches on Narrick and Kol. It was nothing compared to the instant healing powers that Aya possessed, but at least it was something. An agonizing hour had been spent picking out pieces of the cat-o-nine-tails left embedded under Narrick's skin. The elf had passed out more than once, for which Auren had been grateful. All the little black bits of leather he could manage to find and extract had been thrown in the tiny fire he had started by collecting what little brush grew out on the plains. Aside from the crackling of the pathetic little fire and the whistling of the wind through the grass, there was no sound here. Nobody wanted to talk about the raid, and Ko, for one, couldn't because he was still very unconscious and still deathly pale.

Unable to stand the silence, it was Auren that finally spoke, staring into the depths of the fire without meet anyone's eyes. "Well, what do we do now?"

His question was met with a deafening silence, the other two who were still conscious not replying immediately. "We go save them... track the clot-headed barbarians down and rescue the girls." Narrick finally said. He and Kol were both lying on their stomachs, the alternative of lying on their backs or sides being positions that would cause an excruciating amount of pain.

"That's a good start... but how?" Auren shot back quickly, having expected that sort of answer from the elf. "We have no weapons, armor, or clothing, and are miles away from the nearest city. I found one of Ko's rocks, the idiots apparently forgot to snatch it from him after he collapsed. But... Well, he's really not much use, either. The damn fool has probably gone and killed himself by using too much of his power."

There was a silence again, and this one stretched on for an unbearable length of time. "We can try and smuggle them out." Kol offered, shrugging his shoulders then wincing after he had done so, instantly regretting the action.

"When we find their camp, we could wait until the girls were unguarded and steal a few of their birds before escaping." Narrick added, careful to keep as still as possible while he spoke. He was generally a quick learner, so finding out that movement in general was bad for his health had quickly affected his decision making in regards to how he decided to try and position himself.

Auren was shaking his head before the elf even finished the thought. "In case you hadn't noticed, I'm the only one fit to be walking about in this whole group. If you and Kol so much as twitch the wrong way, you're in pain again. If you stand, you'll most likely open all your wounds and bleed to death. You've lost enough blood already, the both of you, and our lack of supplies isn't helping."

"Well then what do you suggest we do?" Narrick yelled, giving Auren a glare that meant certain death, his voice tinged with a hint of desperation. The warrior stared back until the elf calmed down a few notches, his anger melting into an overwhelming sense of defeat, Auren saw the change in the elf’s eyes, the down turning of his gaze and a slight slumping of the shoulders. “But we can’t give up on them.”

“No, we can’t…” Auren agreed, tossing a few more of the scraggly weeds he’d found into the tiny fire. A sound attracted his attention, and he looked up to see Ko staring back, his mouth moving, but no words seemed to be coming out. Standing, Auren walked over to the downed avian and knelt by his side. “Well, don’t you look like a right beauty? Damn man, you nearly killed yourself, you know that, right?”

Ko shrugged, glancing up to his wing where the rough bandage Auren had crafted was dark with blood, but holding. “I couldn’t… do nothing.” He whispered, voice hoarse and weak, barely able to form the words at all. “What happened?”

“You went bloody berserk is what happened. Killed a few of their guys, made them right pissed before passing out.” Auren replied, examining his handy work with the bandages. “And then they beat the living snot out of Kol and Narrick, took off with the girls, and left us with nothing.”

“Sounds bad.” Ko replied, seemingly unfazed by all the chips stacked against them. “So, what’s the plan? I assume there’s a plan.” From across the campfire, Auren could have sworn the he heard a snort originating from Kol.

“You know, I always knew that there was a reason that I hung out with you guys.” The warrior mused, deeming that his patchwork with the cloth bits was good enough for the moment. “So, the master plan is that we jump them while they’re not expecting it. Sneak in, steal our stuff back plus some, and then sneak back out with the girls, then ride like hell until we reach the next city. It’s getting to that point that’s the difficult parts. We’re down two men, which leaves me and you to do the raid.”

Ko considered the prospect for a long moment, mulling it over in his head. “That’d be hard. I don’t have any of my magic stones, and you don’t have a weapon to defend yourself with.”

Auren muttered something under his breath, probably a curse or two, before replying. “Well, you’re half right, at any rate. They didn’t pick up your second stone after you had passed out… Probably didn’t see it and weren’t interested in messing with you after you had thoroughly been defeated. It’s not nearly as fun kicking a corpse as it is a conscious man.”

At that, the avian nodded grimly. “Then we will start in the morning? Hopefully… I will have recovered some of my strength by then.”

“Aye, that’s the kind of talk we like to hear.” The warrior grinned, standing once more before resuming his sitting place on the opposite side of the fire. “As for you two…” He gestured vaguely to Kol and Narrick. “You two… I suppose can just hang tight and think healing thoughts until we come to pick you up.”

*~*~*~*

“There they are… Dirty bastards didn’t even set up a watch.” Auren mumbled, he and Ko crouched low to the ground side by side, looking at the sprawled out expanse of the Plainsmen’s camping ground. “Confident bunch, eh?”

“I think it’s high time they lost a little of that confidence.” Ko grumbled, his wings flexing in anticipation. “Let’s get moving, they’re not going to stay asleep forever.” Moving quickly, the two covered the ground between the hillock they were hiding behind to the nearest tent, creeping around it’s side and slipping in through the entrance flap. Inside were several sleeping men, stinking of alcohol and needing baths badly. Ko walked amongst them, touching their foreheads as he went and instantly stopping their breath and heart. If someone were to look in, they would not have been able to tell the difference between the dead men and the sleeping ones unless they looked closely and noticed that they were no longer breathing.

With the grim task done, Ko began searching around for a set of clothes, his complexion a few shades lighter now. As Auren has suspected, even with a full night’s rest, the avian hadn’t recovered enough of his powers just yet. Another display of force like yesterday would have the man dead in no time flat. They had to be quick and quiet.

“Here,” Auren hissed, having flipped open a metal bound trunk to find a load of clothes shoved inside. He tossed what appeared to be pants and a shirt at Ko before finding some for himself and slipping into them quickly. “This won’t confuse them for long…”

“But it’s far better than parading around in our underwear.” Ko added, donning the stolen clothing quickly. “Grab a few more pairs for the girls and Kol and Narrick. And steal some swords while you’re at it. I don’t think that these blokes will be needing them anymore.”

Auren complied readily, grabbing the first sword that he saw from next to one of the dead men, unsheathing it experimentally before tying it to his waist. “What are we going to do about the magic stones? You’ve only got the one, and Aya and Arina don’t have either of theirs.”

Ko considered the question for a minuet, before shrugging. “We won’t have enough time to go looking for them. If we ever manage to get back to my home village, I will be able to restore the lost stones to the girls. Until then, they will have to fend for themselves in other ways.” He waited until Auren nodded his consent before continuing, taking a deep breath as he approached the tent exit. “Remember, I’ve only got ten or so minuets of magic left in me, make good use of my distraction.”

The warrior nodded again, and after Ko had slipped out of the exit, he waited a few more minuets before following, casting about to get a sense of where to go next.

*~*~*~*

Arina had found a measure of comfort in the pre-dawn hours of the next morning when all the riders had finally exhausted themselves either through physical exertion or had simply passed out drunk after a while. Now at least, she had the relative peace of her own mind to try and deal with the horrors of the night before instead of the repetitive abuse that seemed common place amongst these barbarians. Her neck was covered in small bruises where the men had bit and sucked at the skin in their frenzy of lust, her voice was horse and nearly non-existent from screaming in denial and pain, and heavy dark splotches had developed under her eyes from lack of sleep and the exhaustion that had overtaken her. Every muscle in her body was sore, and places she didn’t even know could be sore were, even in the stillness that had settled over the broken woman.

Somebody had thrown a smelly tattered rag that was sufficing as a blanket over her naked form when the beating and raping had finally come to an eventual end, and she huddled underneath that scrap of cloth for all she was worth, too tired to even shiver against the chill of the early morning air. Sleep was not forthcoming, despite her utter exhaustion… The faces of the men, one blurring into another, kept playing in front of her closed eyes, and would probably haunt her for the rest of her life. Her body twinged with pain at the memory of how brutally she’d been treated, and Arina retreated farther into the shell she had begun to build around herself in a vague hope that it would protect her from the memories.

Some sound outside of her consciousness roused her awareness briefly, and she looked up to see a silent figure slip through the flap of the tent she was housed in. Her initial reaction was to curl up tighter and retreat farther into herself, not even daring to get a proper look at this new man who seemed to have woken early just for the pleasure of a morning screw. “Haven’t you had enough already?” She whispered, closing her eyes against the horror that was sure to come.

When the blanket wasn’t ripped from her hands and the man didn’t set upon her, she began to grow suspicious. What was he waiting for? Then she felt gentle hands on her shoulders and snapped her eyes open to look, a familiar voice piercing through the haze that clouded her mind. “What in God’s name have they done to you…?”

Kind blue eyes came into focus first, and the half-elf breathed a small sigh of relief, tears immediately springing to her eyes. “Oh Auren, it’s so good to see you.”

The warrior placed a finger over his lips, motioning for silence. “Here, we’ve swiped some clothes. Put these on and show me where the others are being kept. Ko is outside, distracting them. We have to move quickly, he doesn’t have much time.”

Arina nodded, taking the clothes gratefully, even if they did bear the insignia of the Plainsmen and donned them quickly, completely ignoring the fact that Auren was still in the room and she was quite naked. Her honor had been stolen from her already, painfully ripped away, even, so she saw no reason to try and be modest now. There probably wasn’t a man in the world that would want a disheveled train wreck like herself anyway. “Come with me.” She whispered, poking her head out of the tent and looking around briefly. There was some commotion on the other side of the camp, probably Ko causing havoc. Quickly, she skirted around the side of the tent, running with an unsteady gait toward where she’d heard the screaming of the other girls the night before, every muscle in her body begging for her to stop. Auren was close behind, keeping a look out for anyone still about in this part of the camp, ready to use the stolen sword on any rider that dared showed him their ugly face.

She turned the corner and slid to an abrupt stop, holding out her arm to signal to Auren that he should do the same. In front of her, she had seen Aya unceremoniously thrust from the biggest tent she’d seen within the camp so far, and correctly assumed that it belonged to the leader of this group. She waited a few minuets, sympathizing deeply with the poor avian girl before walking silently forward, crouching down next to the girl, placing gentle hands on her shoulders. “Aya, Auren and Ko are here to save us. We’ve got to go and find Farah.”

For a moment, Aya stared at the half-elf woman like she didn’t recognize her. Then, she lunged forward and hugging her tightly, silent sobs wracking her body. Whether it was because she was being rescued, or because she now knew that Ko was still alive, Arina could not say. When she had regained a little composure, they stood tighter, and Aya was also given a pair of the stolen clothing to wear. They headed off again, this time Aya leading the way to where she had thought she’d heard Farah.

All round them was silence, save for the snoring of men in their tents and the dull roar of action on the opposite side of camp where, presumably, Ko was doing his best to try and attract as much attention to himself as possible.

On his end of camp, while the girls and Auren were busy finding the last member of their party, Ko was desperately running through the camp, knocking over supplies and scaring poorly tethered birds in his wake, an angry group of men chasing him down for all they were worth. He was sporting a couple of fresh wounds from sword work the he couldn’t have avoided, one of which was a particularly nasty cut on his forearm that he’d bandaged quickly with some ripped clothing. He hoped that the others were getting things done, because he was running out of places to run and the energy to do so.

A small thrill of excitement welled up within him as he saw a corral full of the rider’s birds, and was glad to see that Auren had managed to find their three girls and get them there, in the process of mounting three of the animal and letting all the rest go. He couldn’t have come up with a better plan himself.

When the men chasing him saw this, however, they roared their anger and starting throwing sharp things at the fleeing avian. After getting hit square in the back by a rather painful rock, Ko decided that it was time to get going. He spread his wings, gliding briefly over the ground before flapping hard and gaining speed, doing a low pass over the gathered birds in the corral that frightened them all into a panic. “Ride! Ride as if your lives depend on it!” He yelled as he passed over the small group that had mounted, further frightening the beasts in the corral.

Auren, not a man that liked to take a long time to get to the point of things hacked at the gate’s lock system, breaking it and letting the gate fly open as the rush of birds pushed at it. He had grabbed the reigns of a second set of birds as they ran, figuring that they would be useful in carting around the two wounded men they had left back at camp. The riders that had arrived on scene then had to dive out of the way of the stampeding flock in order to not get trampled as they broke loose of their cage, spreading out all throughout the camp and onto the plains. With a whoop of victory, Ko shadowed the small group running in a coherent direction, feeling like a small bit of the torture from the day before had been settled. Of course, he would feel infinitely better if he would have been able to set the whole camp on fire, but that was hardly a possibility with the weak state that he was in.

Next was the hard part; consoling the girls after the horrid night they’d spent at the Plainsmen’s camp, and staying far far away from the nasty bunch until they could reach the next town.

Kol winced as he felt a rush of pain go through his back at every move he made. Every wound felt as if he was being whipped all over again. Lying on his stomach was the only solution. After the meeting about how to save the girls, Narrick and himself were left alone. For the most park of while they were gone Kol just stared at the fire, unable to do anything else. The small area in which they were in was now quiet and Kol soon drifted off into an uneasy sleep.

As the morning hours came Aya had hardly moved. She stared with unseeing eyes into the sky and she was shivering uncontrollably from the morning chill. There were several bruises that had formed on her rib cage, neck, face and legs. Every muscle screamed in pain from the abuse she had taken the night before. Her mind drifted to Arina and Farah. She had heard them screaming last night from different places in the camp. Unchecked tears rolled down her face in sympathy for the other girls. If they had it anything like she did, it was a living hell for hours on end. Suddenly Aya heard noise coming straight for her. Her body tensed as she waited to be pulled from the ground and dragged back into a tent. Why could they not leave her alone? She winced when she felt a hand on her shoulder and found herself staring at someone familiar. It took her several seconds to realize she was looking at Arina. She heard her say something about Auren and Ko saving them. Instantly she found herself holding onto the girl, silently sobbing in joy. Not only was Arina alive but Ko was as well. After a moment of gaining back her composure she stood with the elf. She took the clothes that were given to get, gratefully. While the shock of being naked in public was now gone, the clothes gave her a sense of comfort.

“I believe I know where Farah is…” She managed to say. She had not realized how dry her throat was until trying to speak. She took the lead as she quietly circled around tents to the area she heard Farah from the night before. She poked her head around one of the tents and spotted Farah lying near a scraggly looking bush.

Farah had indeed been lying by a bush, where she had been dropped by the last man using her for his own pleasures. Overall, Farah was doing better then either of the other girls. Sex was something she was used to, it was the forcing part that was new to her. Every muscle in her body was sore and moving only made it worse. So she laid there, staring at the bush. Only when she heard a noise did she tense up slightly. She wasn’t sure how much more her body could handle before snapping in half. Her, usually, glossy tail was covered in dirt and male excrement’s which added to her bruised body. Out of nowhere she heard noise from her right side, and at once she felt her body go rigid.

“Dear god. You look like shit.” She heard a familiar voice and snapped her head in its direction. It was Auren.

“Lovely to see you too.” She gave him a rather dry look in return for his ‘warm’ greeting; though she was secretly happy to see him as he reached down to help her up. All at once every part of her body screamed in pain. Lying still for several hours after being sore was not a good idea. She bit her lip to contain the scream and leaned heavily on Auren. She looked at the other girls and gave a nod. Seems they made it out alive, but these two were in far more fragile states then she was in. When this was all over it would be a rough couple of days. Auren handed her some clothing and she quickly got dressed. Farah assumed that they didn’t have much time to get moving but the sounds from near by.

Auren had quickly led them to where the birds were being kept. The noises of angry men grew closer as he had assumed Ko was running near by. He instructed the girls to mount a bird quickly. Even though Aya wouldn’t need it, she mounted the closest bird to her and situated herself. Farah, Auren, and Arina had done the same thing before seeing Ko fly dangerously close to scare the poor birds into a frenzy. As Auren cut the lock off the birds poured into the camp running in every direction that would lead them away from the chaos as fast as possible. Aya let the bird take control as it ran out of the pen an out of the camp. Several minutes later the rest of the group was in sight as the birds were now calming down. Farah had managed to stay close to Auren and Arina was not far behind. Aya gently patted the bird’s neck to further calm it into stopping and waiting for the group. As soon as they were caught up, Auren took lead back to the camp they had set up. The entire trip back was silent. Despite being free and taking the men on by surprise, the realities of the night had set upon them causing an uncomfortable tension in the air.

Kol awoke to an unbearable pain wrenching his back into spasm. He shot straight up and shoved his hand into his mouth to keep from yelling and disturbing Narrick. Some of the wounds had opened where the caked on dried blood had been scraped off in his sleep. He let the air rush back into his lungs before taking several deep breaths to even the pain into a dull ache. As he looked up, something came into view on the horizon. It was still rather far away so it looked like an ordinary bird. Ten or so minutes later would soon reveal it was Ko flying it and not far from him on the ground was Auren and the girls. His eyes widen at the realization.

“Narrick…Narrick! Oi! There are back!” He said excitedly. He knew not to touch the elf for fear of causing him great pain but he figured he would wake from the news. It would be another fifteen minutes before the group was close enough to see the damage done to the girl. Kol’s mouth slowly went from a smile to a look of anguish. All three of the girls had several bruises on their faces and neck. He assumed there was more damage under the baggy clothes they now adorned and even worse the damage done to their psyche. None of them were talking or even looking at one another. It looked as though not a word was spoken during the entire trip back.

Aya was the first to make eye contact with him. A small smile flickered on her face with the relief knowing both the men were alive. She looked at Narrick and gave him the same, small smile. As they rode into the small camp, Aya dismounted the bird and swallowed back the memories that were surfacing. This was no time to be upset, they had to move out very soon.

Farah rode into camp and looked at the two men on the ground. “My. You two look lovely.” She mentioned to them as she, too, dismounted. She received a glare from Narrick and then Kol, but did not hear if they had said something.

Kol continued to glare at her, but inside let out a breath of relief. Farah seemed like she would be okay, or so it seemed anyway. The other two, he did not expect such a speedy recovery. He looked into the sky to see if Ko would be coming down to join them soon.

As for the elf, he had been lulled into a fitful rest, physically exhausted from the day before and the restless night and mentally exhausted by the worry for the girls he hand Kol both shared in the silence that stretched between the two wounded men. He was jerked abruptly to wakefulness when Kol’s voice pierced the haze that had engulfed his mind, and he jerked awake, stretching the wounds on his back. Narrick inhaled sharply, clenching his fists against the sudden flare of pain caused by the abrupt movement. It was a moment or two before he could manage to talk, looking over his shoulder at the tiny dot in the sky that was Ko. “So they are.” His hopes didn’t soar nearly as much as Kol’s did, so there was less of a fall when he was able to see that the girls were in a terrible condition. He’d almost expected as much, especially after the petty speech he had been on the receiving end of from the group’s leader the day before. The small smile that Aya gave them nearly ripped his heart out, but was nothing in comparison to the sinking dread he felt when Arina wouldn’t so much as look at anybody, her gray eyes keep solidly on the pommel in front of her.

To Farah’s comment, he simply replied; “At the very least, we are alive.” His voice was neutral, trying to not convey the waves of pain that washed over his body with every breath, the natural motion of breathing stretching the skin on his back just enough to cause further pain.

Auren dismounted, taking in the sorry state of the two on the ground, and trying to decide what they would do with them. While he was thinking, Ko descended to stand among them, his balance faltering temporarily when he touched down and needed to reach out and steady himself by grabbing the nearest saddle. After catching his breath a bit, he looked around at the group. “That stunt we pulled with releasing all of their mounts won’t keep them at bay for long. We’ve got to move quickly.”

“Well, there’s no way that these two are riding by themselves.” Auren replied, gesturing to the two downed warriors. “I suppose that we could ride double… Ko, you can grab Narrick. I’ll help out Kol.”

The moment Ko had landed Aya could not even bare to look at him. She swallowed back a sudden lump in her throat. Shame washed over her as her hands began to shake from the unexpected reaction. His voice had made it worse and she had to shut her eyes tight to drown out his essence. A small sound of despair escaped from her lips as she turned herself around to hide her expression. Flashbacks swamped her that made her feel the shame even worse. How could she ever face him?

The small cry from Aya had attracted the attention of all the men in the group, and they regarded her with varying degrees of sadness, pity, and regret. Ko was unable to face the defeated withdrawn shell that Aya had become for very long, feeling like he had failed her… failed all of them, really. So, instead, he gathered his strength and paced forward to stand at Kol’s side along with Auren, the two combining their strength to haul him to his feet and onto the back of the bird that he would be riding with Auren. Once they had him situated, they concentrated their combined strength on Narrick, and hefted him into the saddle as well.

Kol looked back to see Aya’s reaction, a frown made its way to his face before the slight bit of movement caused him to once again grimace in pain. He took the time to breath before looking up to Auren. “Okay…lets just get this over with…” He mumbled and waited for Auren to help him up.

Neither process had been a pleasant experience for the two wounded men, the lifting process in particular being extremely painful. Narrick had nearly passed out before even coming to his feet, one from blood loss and the second from pain. By the time he had been maneuvered into the saddle, his fists were bone white from being clenched so tightly, fairly shaking with the effort it took to keep conscious and not screaming out in pain. Ko was mounted behind him quickly, a shirt in hand that Auren had brought from the raid and busied himself ripping the material up to replace the blood caked bandage on Narrick’s back, using it to staunch the new blood flow.

The move for Kol had been one of the most painful things he had ever done. His face was even paler as several of the wounds had been torn open and breathing became near impossible from the pain. His vision blackened more then once and he thanked whatever deity was out there once the move was over. His breathing was shaky and he had drawn blood on his lip from biting down on it. He looked over at his Elvin friend and a pang of sympathy hit him. He felt the bird start to move and a new wave of pain hit him. This was going to be a long ride.

Farah looked at the group. Everyone was beaten down, physically and mentally. She gave Auren a worried look before going to Arina and gently touching her arm. “We will be heading out soon.” She said in a soothing tone so as not to scare her.

Arina physically flinched when Farah reached up to touch her, even though she should have known that there was no danger for her here. She offered the woman an frail mockery of an apologetic smile for her reaction to the kind hand, and looked westward to their eventual destination. “Good… I am eager to reach civilization once more, perhaps even take a bath.” She did not try for humor, just stating facts, her voice as frail as her psyche, weak and barely audible.

Seeing the exchange, Auren paused from his bandaging of the raw wounds on Kol’s back as well, feeling a twinge of guilt settle over him. “Let’s hurry, then. The longer we keep these guys from a healer, the greater the chance of an infection.” He nudged his mount lightly, spurring it into an easy start.

Farah frowned when each of the men had been moved. She could not even start to comprehend the amount of pain they were in. She heard Aya tell Auren she was taking to the skies. “I will take her bird with me, Auren.” She mounted her own bird and grabbed the reigns of the other. She knew the skies might hold some comfort for Aya so she did not try to fight her on it. She followed after Auren with the two birds.

Aya wiped at the tears running down her face. When she was composed once more, a blissful emptiness seemed to fill her heart and mind. The pains running up her leg had snapped her back to reality and kept her mind off of the memories. Her attention was brought back to the guy’s sounds of literal despair from being moved. She felt terrible for them. She turned to Auren and waited for him to finish speaking. “Auren…I will take to the skies and keep watch.” Her tone was that of a small child after being punished but she put on a brave face for the rest of them before adjusting the crude wrappings on her leg. The dried blood cracked and flaked off. The pain was a nice distraction and she looked to make sure everyone was okay before taking to the skies.

*~*~*

The small town of Tskina was a remote border village sitting quietly on the southern bank of a large river flowing steadily from the monstrous jagged mountains to the southwest. A pounding waterfall from where the river fell from the dizzying height it had carved through the mountains was the source of much mist in the mornings, or now, at night when the village was cloaked in a thick soup of the stuff. The travelers couldn’t see much of the village, save for the glowing lights in windows where the residents were bedded down for the night, going about their business in the twilight hours before they would inevitably drift off to sleep as a communal whole in preparation for the next morning.

The people of Tskina were hardy folk, specializing in growing crops of all various sorts and the raising of short game animals that were raised for their meat and other useful bits. On the border of the plains as they were, the people were always ready for an attack by the Plainsmen that would drop in to raid them when tourists from Hetia were low in number or too well guarded to be messed with. In the old days, the setting of a nightly watch had not been a necessity, but with the changing of the old guard into the new band of scoundrels, they had wizened up and become a little bitter toward the pillagers. So, it shouldn’t have come as a surprise when the small group of wounded and downtrodden riders dressed in the plainsmen garb came wandering in that the alarm was sounded, and the peaceful mist-cloaked village was quite suddenly alive with movement.

Ko, seeing this happening, immediately leapt from his horse, leaving Narrick to support himself on their bird on his own. With a few powerful strokes of his wings, he was standing a few yards between the two conflicting parties, holding out his arms in a gesture of peace. “Calm yourselves, people of Tskina! I am Konnanaliz, of the Demon Tribe in Moradin! My friends and I bear you no ill will, and seek your hospitality. We were set upon by the Plainsmen, and some of us are in desperate need of treatment.”

He could hear mutterings of disbelief amongst the crowd, but a single familiar voice spoke up, more than a little disbelieving. “Ko? Is that really you, you winged rat?” A man stepped forth from the line, coming closer to get a better look at the avian. Upon recognizing the wounded and exhausted figure, he let out a loud long laugh. “Seems like you finally got yourself into more trouble than you bargained for, eh? Let this fool pass, my people! We know him, and his friends are welcome guests.”

Ko strode forward, meeting the man and giving him a handshake. “Thank you, Geoffrey. It’s been a hard road this past day. We’re all hurt and exhausted from our ordeal.”

“Don’t mention it. Any poor traveler that is set upon by those feather-brained scoundrels will always find a haven within our doors.” Geoffrey replied, his voice a powerful, but kind one. He was a fighter, just like most of the other men in his village, but knew the heft of a plow better than one of a sword, and the rough calloused hands told of a long life of labor. “We’ll take good care of your people.”

Ko managed a weary smile, feeling the last reserves of his strength beginning to give out on him. “Thank you, my friend. I know that we will be in safe hands…”

His voice drifted off, eyes closing and suddenly, the avian collapsed at Geoffrey’s feet, completely out cold. The man dropped to his knees, testing for a pulse before picking the bird-man up, muttering something darkly. “Damn kid… always pushing his limits…”

As night approached on them Aya had been forced to be on the ground with the rest of the group. The skies had been a comfort to her, as she had thought it would be. The cold air on her face was refreshing and the solitude was something she was thankful for. She watched the little group from above and kept an eye out for any movement. Aya soon found out how twitchy she was when she nearly panicked over a small game animal rustling in the bushes. Once she was on the ground the night that cloaked the land was both welcomed and feared. The night gave her cover to avoid the eyes of the group but her fear of any shadow made her jittery. As they came across the small town everything was fine until the alarm bells sounded, just as she was about to high tail it out of there, Ko had jumped off his bird. It seemed he knew these people and someone had recognized him. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw her avian companion go down, but she somewhat expected it. That use of magic from days ago was not something someone easily recovered from.

Farah watched the scene play out and had been growling at several of the men that came near her. She wasn’t planning on trusting a single one of them. With Ko’s reaction to the people she was put on ease a bit. Her eye met with several of the villagers and their whispers of whether to trust them or not was annoying. Kol was literally out cold at this point. He had been out for about an hour by this time. During the trip he had lost conscious several times but had only been out for a few minutes at most.

Geoffrey looked up at the sorry state of the group, jerking his head toward the town. “Follow me. We’ll get your wounded healed up and a clean bed for you tonight.” A couple of his fellow villagers came forward, taking Ko from the man before following him into the town limits.

Auren did not protest. He was exhausted, and it seemed that these people weren’t going to be harming any member of the small group here soon. A nice bed in a place where he didn’t have to worry about being spontaneously attacked would be a nice change. He just hoped that it would be good for the girls. He figured that Narrick and Kol would be able to survived through the next few weeks, their wounds were only skin deep. The same could not have been said about Arina, Aya, and Farah, though the latter seemed to be a little less affected by the whole ordeal than the other females.

He followed Geoffrey and the other men carrying Ko through the village to a rather modest looking house. There was nothing special about it at all; no remarkable signs or filigree to speak of, but it was the one that Geoffrey stopped at, knocking lightly on the door. “Elena, there are some more victims here to see you.” He called lightly through the thick door.

They could hear some scuffling going on behind the door, and then a lamp was lit inside, and the scuffling stopped. The door creaked open, the face of an elderly looking woman opening it. “Geoffrey? What’s going on at this time of night?”

“The Plainsmen hit another group of travelers. They need your help, and from the sorry state of that guy-“ He gestured briefly to Kol, “I think that they need some healing in a right hurry.”

Elena nodded slowly, taking in the sight of all of them before opening her door wide. “Get them all in here… I’ll set some water to boil and wake up Alexandra.” She retreated into her house, disappearing around a corner briefly before returning with a bucket that she handed to Geoffrey. “Fetch some water for me, would you?”

The two men supporting Ko dragged him in the house, setting him down on one of the many cots that Elena had around her house. They returned to pick up first Narrick, seeing as he was mostly conscious and easier to move before taking Kol off of Auren’s hands. The organized fashion in which they’d done this spoke of many such occurrences.

Auren dismounted, handing off the reigns of his horse to one of the waiting men, offering a hand up to Arina who took it gratefully, slipping out of the saddle and headed in the house, her head downturned. The warrior offered the same service to Farah, a questioning look on his face. “Think you’ll be able to help those two out?” He asked in a whisper, knowing that with her superior hearing, Farah would be able to make out his words.

Aya withdrew further into the saddle once she entered town. There were several men around the village and each of them all looked the same to her. She shook her head over and over to rid herself of the illusion. Most of these people did look battle worn, but their eyes held a kind look to them. As they came up to the house Aya was relieved to see a woman at the door. She would have happily stayed on the roof or across town if she had to be around another strange man touching her in any form; healing or not.

Kol, still being unconscious thankful felt none of the pain that the move would have had caused him. It was pure bliss not to be awake.

The demon took Auren’s hand and slipped off of the bird. She looked at him and thought about his question. It was one thing to be forced into sex but something totally different to have your innocents taken from you. She had a grim look on her face for several minutes while she thought of how to help them. Gently she took his arm and walked several paces away from the home so she could speak freely. “I’m worried, Auren. They are both in bad shape. Arina…is not wholly even here. A shell, if you will. When I went to gently touch her arm she flinched like I was going to hit her.” She looked down as if thinking again and began to speak. “Aya…seems like she it about to have a mental break down. I know she was with the main leader for most of the time. I did not see her for most of that night. I can try to talk with them…but it will take a lot of time, and I think Narrick and Ko will have to get involved.” She looked at him with tired eyes. A bruise had formed around her left eye that had turned a nasty yellow color. “Everyone is tired…Sleep will help.” She rested a hand on his shoulder. The warrior’s eyes seem to hold the worry of the world right now. She wanted to comfort him, but knew it was all going to take time.

Elena’s granddaughter, Alexandra, was also a healer, though her skills were not nearly as sharp as her grandmother’s, who had years and years of experience on her side. As such, the younger of the two was left in charge of boiling the water and taking care of the more minor wounds that Ko sported and was even allowed to treat some of the shallower whip cuts on Kol’s and Narrick’s backs as Elena tended to the deep gash in Aya’s leg, talking gently to the avian girl the whole while that she healed the wound. “It’s good that we got to you soon dear. This was starting to become infected. Left untreated, you could have had a severe case of gangrene to deal with. Such a beautiful girl like you… the things that you must have seen…” She would change up her dialogue every so often, dipping into the warm water with a cloth as she healed to clear away blood that would impede her eyesight and slow the healing process down. When she had the deep wound healed to little more than a sensitive red patch of skin, she exhaled deeply and gestured toward one of the cots in her room. “Take your pick, dear. In the morning, I will have some of those strapping men bring up some more river water for you to bathe in. I would think that a nice hot bath could do you a world of good about now.”

Aya flinched initially at the woman’s touch and bit her lip as she cleaned the wound. The woman was a healer and had a beautiful, calming aura about her. She couldn’t bring herself to talk back to the woman due to that fact she did not trust her voice to be steady. When the healer was finally done she limped over to a cot in the corner of the room, away from windows, doors and anything that might quickly get to her if attacked. Once she finally laid down she began to shake as she curled into a tight ball. Why did everything go wrong…she thought to herself before slipping into a restless sleep.

Arina had already taken one of the cots in the corner near the fire, her unseeing eyes gazing endlessly into the crackling flames, her mind finally still, though in a forced way rather than a natural peace. Her body and mind were just so tired, she could feel the ache all around her and stubbornly refused to accept it. Alexandra approached the half-elf woman cautiously, smiling gently. “If you’d like, I could heal some of your bruising. I’m afraid that I’m not very good at much else.”

She looked up into the girl’s face, and offered her a nod, closing her eyes and trying in vain to relax as the healer passed warm hands over her body, pausing around her hips and waist where it was the worst before healing the cut on her lip and the bruise on her right cheek. “There, you should be feeling a little better now… We’re caught a little unprepared at the moment, so we don’t have a fresh change of clothes or anything for you.”

“It’s alright.” Arina replied softly, her body feeling a little less sore, though that didn’t help to lift her spirits by much. The physical wounds were gone, but even as she lay there in the comfort of a secure home by a warm fire, she could still feel the blow of someone’s hand on her face, or disgusting lips on her throat and bosom, the thrust of a man as he ruthlessly penetrated her, uncaring if she screamed desperately for the torture to end.

That particular nightmare, she feared, would never leave her.
Outside in the quiet of the night, Auren’s concern did not stop growing with Farah’s words; in fact, he grew a little more worried, even. He was no expert when it came to the feelings of others… his was a simple existence, and it was tough imagining what the girls were going through at the moment. “Do you think that it’s past the point where the elf and Ko could help them? I’d think any man’s presence would make them uncomfortable at this point…” He mused to himself, moving his hand up to rest over Farah’s at his shoulder. “And how are you? You seem to have come out the most intact of the three…”

Farah’s eyes relaxed ever so slightly. “My innocence was not stolen from me. I don’t think men around them right this moment would help…but each of them were very close…I am sure Aya and Arina would benefit from their comfort in the near future.” She attempted at a smile. “Sex is obviously not something new to me. I think I was just more physically damaged.” She was thankful for his small amount of comfort. She knew this sort of thing was new to him and even a warm hand on the shoulder felt comforting to her. “Just know, you are probably going to be my only partner for the rest of my life.” She tried to add a bit of amusement to her voice. Though she was half serious. Auren had only ever treated her kindly and the thought of another man just would remind her of that night all over again. “Lets just go to sleep.” She dropped her hand from his shoulder down to his own hand and gently squeezed it for his own comfort. She walked in and picked a cot, soon drifting off to sleep.

“Oi! Wench! Get your sweet ass over here!” Aya heard before she was dragged into the leaders tent. Her clothing was violently ripped from her body and the moment she resisted she was met with a slap to the face. Aya was reliving the night all over again in her sleep. She began to shake violently in her sleep. A cold sweat broke out on her body and soft whimpering began to escape her lips.

Another slap came to her face as she had tried to close her legs from the invading men. “No!” She screamed over and over but this man continued to force her legs open and then plunged himself into her. She felt the stab into her as blood trickled down her leg. She cried, so much that she thought she wouldn’t be able ever again. There was another heavy weight on her chest as yet another man began to rub his hands all over her and hold her down. Yet another slap.

Suddenly Aya full out screamed as she shot straight up in the bed. Tears were already running down her face as she continued to shake. Where was she? Was she back there? She looked around the room with unseeing eyes. To her, all she could see was the inside of the large tent. She pushed herself onto the furthest part of the cot as she could and brought her knees up to her chest and had her head down. She rocked herself back and forth, trying to drown out the rest of the world and pretend it wasn’t there.

Aero and Tajy ((In Dream World)) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Aero and Tajy ((In Dream World))   Aero and Tajy ((In Dream World)) Icon_minitimeSat May 01, 2010 5:37 am

Auren smiled warmly at the demon woman, his eyes going soft as he followed her back inside the house and picked a cot to sleep in nearby. The old woman was still tending to Narrick, her granddaughter easing some of the less minor wounds on Aya when the girl allowed her to approach. The exhausted warrior fell asleep long before the two healers did, covering wounds they didn't have the strength to heal all in one session with sterile gauze and healing balms before blowing out the candles they had worked by and unobtrusively went back to their own sleeping quarters, letting the exhausted strangers rest in peace.

Auren wasn't necessarily dreaming, though when he woke violently to the sound of screaming, he thought for sure he had been caught in a nightmare. Disoriented, he first realized that it was very dark outside, probably around midnight, and secondly that the screaming wasn't from inside his head, but rather from the normally quiet avian, Aya. Immediately he was on his feet, rolling out of bed and going to her side. Ko was dead to the world, not so much as a flicker of alertness passing over his face, but Narrick was up, staring at the goings on, unable to rise because of his wounds and probably hating it.

The warrior reached out, putting his hands on the girl in an effort to steady her. "Aya! Aya! What's wrong? Are you in pain?" He asked, his voice a little frantic and loaded with worry for her.

Kol was also not really dreaming anything in particular when he was awaked to the sound of someone’s scream. Immediately he assumed they were once again being attacked. The sound of it was reminiscent to that of the night the girls were taken from them. He painfully rolled over to see Aya curled up in a ball, sobbing. A nightmare he guessed. While some of the tension was released from his body the site of the distressed girl bothered him. Even greater was the annoyance of being unable to help her.

Aya’s mind was not fully in the present. The horrors of the night before replayed in her mind over and over again. She shrank further into the bed. Through the chaos in her mind Aya felt someone touch her shoulder and a voice. It was male. That alone was enough to trigger Aya into action. She screamed bloody murder before slapping the male as hard as she could. She stared at him with glazed over eyes, which pleaded for him to stop. “Have you not done enough…?” She sounded defeated as she averted her eyes from him. Her body continued to shake with the expectancy of being hit.

Farah watched the entire scene. Her eyes widen as the avian female violently hit Auren. She stood but did not yet move from where she was. This was getting heated rather fast and if Aya were not calmed down soon the entire village would be at their door demanding to know what was going on.

That last thing that Auren had ever suspected would happen to him was get slapped in the face. However, after trying his best to comfort the screaming girl, he found himself with a pounding red cheek and his face planted firmly on the floor where he’d fallen. Surprised, he managed to right himself again, staring at Aya, absolutely befuddled. He had never known that she possessed such physical strength, or that she was capable of lashing out so hard, especially at an ally. After taking a moment to gather his wits, he stood once again, moving to try and comfort the screaming girl.

Arina saw him and knew his intentions, having woke up that the same time as everyone else in the house. Her dreams were smoke that she couldn’t understand or grasp, for which she had been very thankful. Knowing that Auren would receive nothing for his efforts but perhaps another slap to the face, she rose quickly, ignoring the protesting of sore muscles, and barreled into the warrior with all of her strength, shoving the man aside. “Stay away from her unless you wish to be hurt again!” Giving the warrior her best glare, she turned to Aya, resting gentle hands on her forearms. “Aya, wake up. It was a nightmare, nothing more. We are safe in the town of Tskina, healed for the most part of our wounds. You are safe.” Her voice was calm, collected, a measure of serenity in her voice that far surpassed any shreds of peace she actually felt within herself.

Auren, on the floor once more, felt himself growing just a little ticked off by being shoved around by all the girls in the group, and half expected Farah to come and kick him while he was down just to add insult to injury. Elena and Alexandra, having heard the screams, were up now, rushing over to see what was wrong with their patients, looking disheveled and unkempt.

Tears streamed down Aya’s face as she looked up at Arina. The comforting tone of her voice allowed her to escape the hellish world she was trapped in. For several minutes she just started at the elf trying to figure out where she really was. At first she believe she had actually dreamed up the healers home to save what sanity she might have had. She blinked several times before hugging onto Arina and quietly sobbing. Her back and shoulders ached from the continual shaking and the guilt she felt for causing such a scene made it worse.

After assuring everyone in the home that she was all right Aya watched them one by one make their way back to bed. After the last person was finally back to sleep Aya made her way outside to breath in the crisp night air. It cleansed the mind and the vast expanse of the city in front of her it did not seem like any walls were closing in. A faint smile touched her lips. So this is why Ko sleeps out doors, well perhaps a part of it. She watched as the first steaks of morning light came across the sky. It had been awhile since she had seen the sun rise. She laid back on the roof and listened to the quiet hum of the morning activity.

Farah woke up to someone breathing softly on her neck, and their arm slung on her side. She blinked a few times before trying to sit up. The arms just encircled her tighter and a twinge of panic set in. What was going on? She asked herself as turned herself to face whoever was sleeping with her. To her great relief it was Auren’s face she was met with. If he were awake he would see the dry look she was giving him. How on Earth did he end up over here? Even better question was to how they both fit on this thing? She sighed as she stopped thinking about it and snuggled into the warmth of his chest.

The early morning light the spilled into the window is what brought Kol to wake up. His back was tense and sore but slightly better from last night. The healing herbs that must have been used were very good. He took a look around the room to find it basically the same as last night with the exception of Aya being gone. As his brain had not yet comprehended the meaning of this he began to close his eyes once more before they snapped open.

“Aya is gone…” He said more to himself then anyone. He forced himself into a sitting position. He winced as he stood, the pain was there but he was able to stand it now. He walked around the main room looking for the avian. He knew not to panic or worry before he knew the facts. Perhaps she had gone to take a walk or something along those lines.

Auren felt the movement of a body in his arms, and he instinctually held the woman tighter in his grip, keeping his eyes closed against the invading light of the sun that streamed through the windows at this early hour in the morning. It was dim, for the fog coming down from the mountains and rising from the river and waterfall had cloaked the town in a thick soup of white. As the day rolled on, it would dissipate, but this early in the morning, the heat of the sun hadn’t had the chance to penetrate through the stuff. Breathing in the scent of Farah, he let out a long sigh, burying his head in her hair and simply enjoying the feeling of their shared body heat. “It is good to have you back.” He muttered, his voice low and husky from sleep.

A sudden pain in his back startled Narrick to wakefulness, and he realized just a little too late that he had rolled onto his side, stretching the as of yet unhealed wounds on his back. It was only an irritation, not the full out breath-sucking pain of the day before when their wounds hadn’t been healed at all, and he marveled at the ability of the healers from yesterday. He looked around the room, forcing himself to sit up, despite the pain, and look around the house. Arina was still asleep from all appearances, though he couldn’t see her face; her back turned toward him as it was. His gaze saddened when he looked upon her, and he once again realized that he would never know the depth to which she had been scarred. She was a proper lady, through and through, and suffering such an indignity and such brutality was not something that her previous life had prepared her for. He wanted to comfort her, but after seeing Aya’s display from the night before, he was afraid to approach any of the women, except for maybe Farah who was already accepting Auren’s close quarters. As his gaze scanned the room, he noted two things; the first of which was that Kol was gone, and the second was that Aya had disappeared as well. He choked back fear, wondering what had happened to the two. Kol was probably safe, maybe out taking a stroll through the thick fog that encased the village, but Aya was so mentally deteriorated, he couldn’t even imagine where or why she would have disappeared.

Rising, he shuffled toward the sleeping forms of Auren and Farah. The two, relatively unwounded after their communal ordeal, would be much quiker in tracking down their two missing comrades than himself, though he would expend the energy to the search as well. He didn’t even bother trying to wake Ko, the avian still completely dead to the world, though he had gotten some of his color back. “Auren, Farah, wake up. Aya’s gone missing.” He said gently, shaking the warrior knowing that he wouldn’t be slapped by the man.

As Kol had left the large home in search of Aya, he noted the thick fog. He squinted to try and see further in the village. While Aya was dressed in rather bland clothing still, her pure white wings should have made her stick out. He continued to walk along the road in hopes of finding her. Sadly, with his injury Kol had not gotten more then a block down the road.

“It’s good to be back.” Farah smiled after hearing Auren was glad to have her back. The warmth they were giving off was lulling her back into a light sleep until she heard Narrick’s voice. He said something along the lines of Aya being gone. She quickly sat up.“What do you mean she is gone?” She asked, standing. “She is no state to be out by herself.” She waited for Auren to get up so they could head out. She looked around the room and frowned. “Kol is gone too…It’s not a good idea for him to be out when he is not fully healed either…” Her tailed twitched, why would the fool go out on his own?

As more people filled the village, Aya began to feel uncomfortable. Many of the men could see her now that the fog was beginning to lift and their stares were unnerving. She had no noticed Kol leave the house and quickly took to the air. Perhaps there was a river near by that could she could wash herself in. She looked back at the house once more. She felt a bit guilty for just taking off like she did, but perhaps they were still sleeping. As she made her way to the end of the village she found a beautiful river that was fed by a waterfall. The base of the waterfall had a large pool that was surrounded by beautiful rocks, and plants. Aya soon took to the ground and inspected the area. Thankfully it seemed like there were no people around.

Aya slowly undressed and set her clothing on a near by rock as she stepped into the water. A shiver made its way up her back. It was rather cold but the water felt refreshing enough for her to continue. None of them had had a chance to bathe since they got back and washing the filth from her body might be a good step in trying to cleanse her mind. She waded into the water until she was waste deep. She began to take the time to clean her body and feathers.

Auren’s peaceful morning was disrupted by Narrick’s prodding, and he glared evily at the man until he realized that there was trouble with their little avian friend. Following Farah to his feet, he allowed himself a small stretch and cracking his neck and back before settling into a state of seriousness. “Well, I might get smacked again, but I’ll do my best to find her.” He looked over the elf, noting that he seemed to be much better as compared to his state of the day before, but he was still looking a little drawn, and the warrior’s keen eyes didn’t miss his shuffling steps that indicated pain. “Farah and I will go looking and see if we can find Kol and Aya. You stay here and let Elena and Alexandra know where we’ve all gone.” He could see Narrick’s rejection of the idea coming, and he clapped a hand to the elf’s shoulder.

Narrick winced, unable to help the small noise of pain that escaped his lips. Auren kept their eye contact steady, a silent battle of wills going on between the two. “I know that you want to come help, but you’re no where near recovered enough to go trekking around the town looking for them.”
A long sigh escaped the elf, his eyes cast to the floor. “Fine. I’ll stay here with Arina and let our hosts know what’s going on.” There was a measure of defeat in his voice that told of his want to come along with them. At least here, Arina was safe from herself and anyone else roaming the street, and knowing how he felt, he could only conclude that Kol was feeling about the same. Honestly, he didn’t expect to have gotten very far anyway. “Return quickly.”

“We will, with our two wandering friends.” Auren replied, giving his fellow warrior a small nod of reassurance. Glancing once to Farah, he headed out the door, looking both ways to see if either Aya or Kol just happened to be standing right there. “I guess I’ll go one way, and you’ll go the other?” He asked, looking at Farah.

Farah knew that the elf was going to protest. It was in his nature to protect his friends and even more so when it seemed like everyone was disheveled and out of balance. As Auren got him to agree to stay and began to leave she gently touched his shoulder. It was meant to offer a small amount of comfort as she, too, walked out. Once Auren offered to go one-way and she the other. After giving an agreeing nod she took off to the right and down the street.

Kol sighed as he stopped to take a break. Walking was possible but it took a great amount of energy. There was still no sign of Aya as he had made it to the center of town. Many people filled the streets now, going about their business. He frowned while leaning against the nearest home. After ten minutes of jogging down the road Farah caught sight of Kol. A sigh of relief came to her once she saw him. He looked tried, but for the most part was all right. As she walked up to him the first thing she did was give him a good smack to the back of the head. “Stupid!” She growled at him, placing a hand on her hip.

After wincing from the attack his eyes met the angry ones of his demon friend. He gave another sigh before giving her his best smile. “I’m sorry to worry you, my lady.” He would normally have bowed slightly but this small action would send shots up pain through his back still. “Get back to the house. Auren and I are looking for Aya.” She gave the command to Kol and watched as he walked off with a goofy grin on his face. She then continued in the same direction in her search for Aya.

When Aya finally left the water she was shivering. The bath itself was worth the cold. Once she dressed she sat on a warm rock. The small peace she had was soon invaded by thoughts of the pervious night. She drew her knees up to her chest and rested her head on her knees. She closed her eyes and attempted to forget the memories.

Narrick accepted Farah’s small gesture of reassurance, shuffling to his cot and easing himself down on it, staring at the ceiling for a long moment before letting a long whoosh of breath escape him, closing his eyes against the painful twinge in his back. He heard movement then, a subtle shifting of a body, and opened his eyes to see Arina staring back at him, her eyes dull and guarded in a way that they never had been before. The look tore at his heart, and he desperately wished to take the woman in his arms and comfort her. However, he was given pause by his own weakness and the sight of the night before with Auren getting shoved around not only by Aya, but Arina as well. “This may be a ridiculous question, but how are you feeling this morning?” He asked, his voice soft and tentative.

rina considered his words for a long moment before daring to reply, her own voice weak, but steady and unwavering. “I am not as sore this morning, and was not privy to nightmares last night, so I count myself lucky.” Her answer was cryptic, not really allowing Narrick to determine what her true feelings on the matter were, though it didn’t take much to assume that inside, she was miserable.

The silence stretched between them for a few more awkward seconds before Narrick dared to speak again. “It’s good that you are healing…” He managed to maneuver himself into a sitting position, and saw Arina watching him warily, as if she feared him. “Look, Arina… I can’t possibly begin to imagine what you’re going through. But I hope that you can learn to trust us again… Maybe not the whole male community of Ra’Oath, but at least Auren, Kol, and myself. I may be asking a lot, and I know that it will take some time to recover yourself, but one day, I hope to be able to walk alongside you without your fearing an attack from us.”

Arina nodded, drinking in his words slowly and sat up as well, stretching and letting forth a long yawn. “I will never forget what went on that day. It will haunt my memories for the rest of my life.” She stared at Narrick, willing the man to see the horrors of the night through her eyes. “My heart knows that you would never stoop to the depths of those barbarians. You were part of the Plainsmen when they were honorable and pure, seeking to rid us of the vile grasp of the Guild, nothing like the wolves that stalk the plains now… But it will take a long time before I can stand the touch of a man or his close presence with ease… Even if it is you, I fear.” There was a hint of tears in her voice, though her eyes did not water.

“Take your time. I will wait for you.” Narrick replied immediately, feeling the conviction of his words, at that, Arina really did tear up, a couple of the drops falling from her eyes and collecting at her chin before dropping into her lap.

“How could you say that? I’m not a whole woman anymore, Narrick. I have nothing left to offer you! Even my parents… Oh God, what will they say when I tell them?” The normally stoic woman shook with restrained tears, trying valiantly not to have a total break down right there in front of Narrick. “Why? How could they do such a thing?! How could I ever face anybody like this..?”

Narrick stood slowly, for one not to disturb the crying girl, and secondly because he had no choice than to do otherwise because of the pain in his back. He knelt down in front of Arina, his hands on his knees, doing nothing to indicate the overwhelming urge he had to try and comfort the sobbing girl by drawing her close. “Arina, you are among one of the most honorable women that I know. Nobody, and I mean nobody, can take that from you. It is a trait that is solely yours to dictate, and only you can give it up. Just the fact that you retained your sanity and some measure of dignity through that experience is enough. It wasn’t you fault.”

The half-elf woman watched him carefully, unable to keep in check the tears steadily dripping down her face, only able to wipe them away, her throat closing up with the built up anguish. “Oh Narrick…” She felt herself shake, and something broke inside, the full force of her emotions spilling out in a great tide of sobs and tears. She quite suddenly found herself on her knees in front of him, her head buried against the reassuring strength of his chest, hiding her tear-streaked face from the world as he enveloped her in a warm embrace, whispering comforting words as she cried.

Auren wandered the streets, having no idea where to look or turn in the hopes of trying to find Aya. He had scoured the streets, even thought to look up in the sky on the tops of roves for her. When he had reached the edge of the city with no sign of their white-winged friend, he began to get truly worried. A stray glance along the river lead him to wonder if, perhaps, she had left the village all together in search of a quiet place. Shrugging, the warrior followed his instinct to the waterfall just outside of town, the temperature dropping noticeably here where the waterfall made particles of water airborne.

He searched around for a while, and was about to give up when a flash of white caught his eyes. Doubling back, he saw Aya sitting on a rock next to the waterfall’s deep pool, staring seemingly nothing in particular. He cleared his throat loudly as he came into the clearing, standing a few feet away. “Aya?”

As Kol made his way back to the home and as he stepped up to the door he heard a women sobbing. Thinking that Narrick had upset the half elf he very slowly opened the door. To this surprise the women was sitting against Narrick, quietly sobbing. He stared into the house for a moment more and then closed the door once more. Pain wracked his back when he went to turn around and he grabbed the side of the house to steady himself. He took in a breath to calm himself before sitting down on the ground. He had no want to bother the couple in the healing process. In honesty it made him happy to see Arina finally opening up. It was an important step into healing. Farah was also doing well now. He had seen Auren cuddling up with her this morning and they looked contented. All that was left was to help stable Aya. He believed that once Ko was finally awake he might be able to help her.

Aya jumped at the sound of Auren’s voice, but that was the extent of her reaction. She remained sitting in her guarded position but her head up up now and she was looking at him.

“Auren…I’m so sorry about last night…I-“ She looked back down for a second, hoping that he would understand without her explanation. She knew she had hit him hard last night and the guilt was gnawing at her. She picked up a rock that was near her and threw in into the pool, watching the ripples that the impact of the rock had made. She felt so off balance from the memories washing over her. Dark circles had formed around her eyes from the sleepless night, adding to her pale complexion. “I hope you can forgive me.” She attempted at a smile towards him as she picked up another rock.

He waved his hand in the air between them as if to wave aside her apology, walking forward and sitting a couple feet away from her on another rock. “No need to apologize. You were scared and just looking out for yourself. I’m more impressed that you could hit so hard.” The warrior shot her a lopsided grin, letting her know that he wasn’t just doling out false praise. “You’ve got quite the arm. Probably would have made a good sword fighter if you hadn’t turned out as a bloody spell caster.” Again, he smiled at the girl before watching her toss rocks and the ripples the thrown stones made. “Well, I’m not going to ask if you feel better or not, but do you think that you could bear coming back to the house? Everybody’s worried about you. Even Kol and Narrick went and tried to find you.”

Arina sniffled and wiped her eyes one last time, out of tears to cry for the moment, and feeling sufficiently hollowed of the negative thoughts she’d been feeling all morning and through the night. She leaned back, not daring to look Narrick in the eyes. “Thank you for the comfort.”

“I will always be your shoulder to cry on.” The elf replied with a soft smile, rising to his feet and extending his hand so that Arina could do the same. Apparently having finally woken from all the noise going on in their great room, Elena and Alexandra made their appearance, fully dressed this time and looking prim and proper.

“Oh good, seems that everyone’s awake… though I would have preferred it if you would have stayed in bed.” The elderly woman cast Narrick a scolding look, and the man took a hint, sitting back down on his chosen cot. “Now dear, we’ll get a bath drawn for you and your friends so that you can clean up a bit. We’ll see if we can’t find you some fresh clothes as well.”

Arina nodded to the woman, giving her thanks. “You’re very generous.”

“I’ll be back with the bath water soon.” Alexandra called over her shoulder, walking out the door to go fetch some able bodied men that would help her carry water. A small cry of surprise escaped her when she saw Kol just outside the doorway, and she immediately fell to his side, checking to see if he was alive. “Are you okay? How did you get out here?”

She couldn’t help but smile from the lighthearted warrior. Her smile was soon replaced with a frown came to Aya’s face when Auren mention that Kol and Narrick went looking for her. “I had not meant to worry anyone.” She knew that it must have been painful for both men to be out of bed and walking around. “Alright, lets go back then.” Her voice was less confident now but she gave him a small smile as she stood. She kept her distance from Auren as they began to walk back but the silence between them was comfortable.

Kol looked up at the frightened woman as she came out of the house. “I am alright, my lady.” He gently took her hand in his and brought it to his lips. “No need to have such a worried look on your face. A smile better suits you.” He gave her a handsome smile as he released her hand.

When they arrived back at the house, it was to the sight of Alexandra running off, a deep crimson blush on her face, apparently fleeing from Kol. Auren cocked his eyebrow at the demon, reaching down a hand to help him up. “What’d you do to her, man?” He asked, unable to kep from grinning a little bit as he hefted the man to his feet.

Just inside, Elena was busy tending to Narrick’s wounds, healing up the last of the deep lashings so that they left behind only red new sensitive skin in their wake, much to the relief of the elf, who could now move about again. “And now for the demon. Get him in here and on a cot so that I can heal up the last of his wounds as well.” She called out the door to where she figured that the second of the whipped pair would be.

The morning when on in much the same manner with Eleanor and Alexandra working to help get everyone back on their feet again in cleaned up with fresh clothes generously donated by some of the other townspeople. The girls were allowed hot baths first, then the water was renued and the men were allowed a soak before lunch.

It was probably the smell of food that had woken Ko from his exhaustion-induced coma, and the avian woke ravenous. His first inclination was to eat everything that Elena offered him, and then was still hungry, so Alexandra had to go fetch him some more food. Afterwards, he enjoyed the luxury of a hot bath, and rested a few hours more before he was allowed to be up and about the house, still a little weak, but at least he was conscious now.

Kol had a silly grin on his face as he watched the young lady go, and Auren walk up to him. “I merely told her that she was better suited with a smile.” The look on his face gave away that it was much more then an innocent conversation. He winced slightly once Auren got him on his feet but was thankful to hear that he would soon be healed. The girls had taken the baths and then the clothes after thanking the women many times over. It was nice to be in something clean and the hot water relaxed their muscles. Aya had taken the chance to sleep after the bath. Luckily only a dark haze filled her mind as she slept through lunch. She woke up to Farah coming into the room.

Aya? There is food downstairs if you so wish…And Ko is awake now.” She said gently and promptly left the room. She knew Auren was somewhere in the house waiting for her. (Perv. Not what you think it is.) Aya rose from her light sleep feeling rather refreshed. She walked into the main room where Ko was resting. She suddenly felt nervous and several times she turned herself back out of the room to leave. What if…he did not want her anymore? She shook her head; the least she could do was ask if he was well again. Aya walked over to the area he was laying down in and sat a cot or two away.

“H…. Are you feeling better…?” She wanted to hit herself for how skittish she sounded. Her heart was beating a million miles per hour. The nervousness of being in a man’s company and the fear of rejection made her fidgety.

Ko looked up when he heard her voice, having been resting on his cot as the exhaustion of being awake had hit him again and forced him to take a small rest. He would be lethargic for a few days yet, and honestly was just grateful that he was alive at all. This was the closest he had ever been to crossing the lines of life and death. A small smile crossed his face as he heard her stumbling question, not quite in the mindset to realize that she was nervous because he was a man, and not just because of her timid nature. “I’m feeling loads better, thank you. It seems that all my wounds have been healed, and I figure I’ll be in working condition again come tomorrow.” He gave a small sigh, gathered his strength, and then sat up, keeping his eyes locked to Aya’s. “And what about you? Are you recovering?”

After their lunch, Narrick and Auren had been instructed by Elena to go gather some more water and wood as a chore to help pay her back for her good deeds. They graciously accepted the small amount of labor, leaving the large home and going their separate ways to gather the requested items. She had instructed Alexandra to escort Farah and Kol to the market place to purchase some more food for their ravenous guests, as well as picking up some much needed healing herbs to resupply their constant stalk. Feeling like she wasn’t doing her part, Arina had immediately volunteered to accompany the two, and left with them.

Elena was about to instruct Aya to go do some other task, but seeing that she and Ko were about to start a very serious looking conversation, she refrained, going quietly about her business in the kitchen cleaning up, and then quietly shuffling to another room.

Kol and Farah had, of course accepted to help even more so for Kol when he found out he would be occupied by three lovely ladies. “Such beautiful women will make every man in town jealous of me…” He spoke, mostly to Alexandra as he released a dramatic sigh. He winked in her direction be opening the door for all of them. He was feeling loads better and it put him in a very good mood. Kol made sure to keep his joking mostly on Alexandra so as not to make the other females uncomfortable.Farah rolled her eyes at him. While she knew this man was not all sugar and no substance, she also knew he was such a player. He would talk to every lady in town like this. She walked out the door, following Alexandra.

Aya flinched visibly as Ko sat up. It was an innocent reaction to his movement but it was one she hoped he did not see. “I’m…glad to hear that. I was worried.” She looked down at her lap once he had asked her about how she was doing. He had been out for the past two days so he knew nothing of her violent nightmare or random disappearing act. She took a minute to think to tell him the truth or not. She let out a sigh

“It’s…been rough.” She admitted and explained the nightmare and mishap with Auren, “…but, Its getting there…I feel better, overall, today.” She tried to make her voice seem slightly cheery at the end of her explanation. She had avoided looking at him the entire time she spoke. It was a natural thing for someone to look at you while speaking but his eyes felt like they were piercing her. She gripped the edge of the cot as if she were going to stand and leave but remained sitting.

Ko stared at her for a long moment, having caught her flinch out of the corner of his eye before she could recover. His eyes traveled to her hands, taking note of how tightly she gripped the edge of the cot. “You’re afraid.” It was a statement, not a question, and he sounded bewildered, looking back up to her face. He couldn’t meet her eyes, however, since they were firmly looking everywhere, anywhere, except for at him. His disbelief turned into turned quickly into anger. Not at her, but the riders that had done this, and a mild curse escaped him, prompting him to turn his head quickly away from her and clench his fists until the knuckles turned white.

It was a long time before he had himself under control again, though he didn’t trust himself to speak for a while. The same question kept running through his head… What could he say? How could he even go about trying to right this wrong? He held out his hand, letting it hover between them. “Could you learn to trust me?”

A pang of disappointment hit her when he mentioned that she was scared. It was true and she tried to hide it from him. Aya’s heartbeat only grew more frantic when she felt his angry practically spilling off of him and surrounding him like an aura. She attempted to look up at him but when the silence stretched on between them she had to avert her eyes once more. She was startled when he spoke once more and she looked up to see his hand in front of her. She stared at it in confusion for a moment. “Could you learn to trust me?” The simplicity of his question shocked her. She looked up and her eyes met with his. Instantly tears formed in her eyes.

“Why…would you still want me…?” There was shame in her voice, and fear. Rejection was painful and why he had not tossed her aside for being broken…was astonishing to her. Of course she could learn to trust him again, but why would he want her to? She could not understand.

He was struck by her question, though his hand never wavered from its position in the space between them. “Why would I want you?” He asked, astonished. “Why wouldn’t I? Aya, I understand why you’re afraid. I don’t know how it feels to be in your shoes, but I hope that I can help you get through it. I know that the girl I fell in love with is still there inside you. We just have to find a way to pull her back out again.” He didn’t realize the small slip in his language, being so concentrated on trying to reassure Aya as he was. He gestured once more with his hand, lifting it slightly. “Can you learn to trust me again?”

Aya stared at him, completely dumb struck. He…He loved her and he wanted to work with her to make things right again. What else could she possibly ask for? She choked back a sob as a tear rolled down her cheek. She smiled, a real smile as she whipped at the tear. She reached for his hand and gently took hold of it.

“How could I refuse?” She held a smile on her face as more tears dripped down unchecked. The amount of relief she was feeling over overwhelming. She might never be the same again, but Ko seemed to want to work with her. She brought her other hand up and held his hand in both of hers. “Thank you…Ko.” Aya looked up at him, “You don’t know how much that means to me…”

~~~~~~
The next night was a little more peaceful, with everybody physically healed up that morning and able to gain back his or her energy over the day and a rather cheerful dinner had rounded off the night, with Kol flirting unabashedly toward Alexandra the whole time, and Elena making no move to save her furiously blushing granddaughter from the advancing avian. Narrick tried to save the girl once, but his attempts were shot down rather quickly, Auren having sided with Kol on this particular occasion.
All in all, they were able to spend a much more relaxed night in the huge common room. Elena gave the girls a herb that would help them sleep without dreams if they wished before turning down for the night. The morning came with the same sense of peace, the entire village cloaked in a haze of white with the fog surrounding them all. Elena had started helping them pack for their journey south into the mountains, Narrick trying his best to find some way to repay her kindness.
“No, really dear, it’s fine.” Elena would say again and again. “The town knows that those who are attacked by the Plainsmen have nothing left to give us. We simply help those in need, and in return we are given the gratification of knowing that we did something good for somebody else.” After that Narrick gave up, packing his own bag of supplies.
Kol had been awake for several hours now and he had finished packing. “My lady Alexandra. I will miss your company.” He asked as he walked into the same room she was in. He leaned in the door way as his eyes looked over her. Her continual blushing made her several times cuter and he just could not help himself.
Ko woke to the noises of the others getting up and about, and stretching mightily, he rose as well. “So, we’re headed out again, huh?” He asked, looking to Narrick who nodded affirmatively to his inquiry. “Good… It’ll be great to be back home. I’ll wager that you humans haven’t ever been in a true blue demon village, eh?”
Arina looked up, shaking her head. “No, never. The clan that roams outside of Hetia doesn’t ever let strangers enter their village.”
Aya woke to the sunlight playing on her face. She groaned and sat up. There were already noises coming from people packing and getting ready to go. The medicine she was given for her nightmares had worked very well and she slept peacefully.
“We are going to your home town, huh…? Are…Are we going to be meeting your family?” She blinked several times, as the floor suddenly was very interesting. Oh no, what would his family think of her? She is just barley holding onto the balance of her emotions. She grew a little nervous at the though but seemed to be in a good mood overall still. She stood next to, yet slightly behind Ko.
As per norm, Farah was still asleep with Auren in a tangled mess of bodies. She really did love to be enfolded in his warmth when she woke up. It’s too bad that they were not naked and had just finished having sex with one another. She smiled and snuggled further into his warmth at the thought.
Like normal, Auren simply had no interest in leaving his shared resting place with Farah. It was far too easy to be lazy with the female demon in bed with him, and that warmth was something he was loath to get up. But, like normal, they obviously had to get up and do something productive. It seemed that everyone was packing, so, placing a light kiss on Farah’s shoulder, the warrior stood, stretched, and began packing his things as well. His ears perked up when it was mentioned that they would be going to Ko’s home village. He’d never been in a demon village either, most of them being the unsociable type that didn’t let anybody into their little communities.
Farah felt the light kiss on her shoulder just before the warmth had left her. She let out a small groan of protest but knew as well they had to be on their way. She sat up and stretched. She could hear the others talking. A demon village, eh? She had left the demon village she originally grew up in. She was chased out…. but she could no longer remember the reason. Perhaps she slept with someone’s husband.
Ko, apparently unaware of Aya’s hesitation about the subjects, soldiered on, giving her a quick smile. “Yes, you’ll get to meet my people and my family… Though it consists of only my mother, but trust me, she’s enough!” He laughed at some private joke, packing the last of his stuff and shrugging it onto his shoulders. “I do want to warn you in advance, though. My mum’s a little… strange. Just don’t get frightened off as soon as you meet her; it gets better.” He grinned at them all, and headed for the door, ready to leave.
\Elena walked them to the door, Alexandra staying a safe distance behind her grandmother. “Now, you all be careful. Summer will be ending soon, so the mountains might begin to have snow.”
A laugh came from Ko, and he took a step toward the old woman. “Don’t worry Elena, I’m a resident of those mountains. We’ll be fine for another couple of weeks yet.”
Narrick regarded that avian dubiously, but put on a good show of faith. “You take care of yourself as well, Elena.”
Aya’s eyes widen as Ko continued to explain what his mother was like. She quickly became a huge ball of nerves. If only she had met her like, a week, ago this would not be so nerve racking. She gave him a nervous laugh and watched him over to the older woman. Everything would be fine, it’s okay…She kept saying to herself until she abruptly found herself tumbling over a cot. She had accidentally tripped on the side of it and was now sitting on the ground with a dumb founded look.
Kol also walked up to Elena and gave a courteous bow. “Thank you, so much for your generosity. We will never forget your kindness.” He gave another slight bow before picking up his own pack and then suddenly hearing a thud. Kol could not help but laugh at the confused stricken face of the female Avian. “Aya, are you alright?” He went to go help her up but saw her flinch at his approach. A frown came to his face for a moment but was quickly replaced with a smile to hide it. “Silly girl, you should be more careful.” He took a few steps back and went on his business of wooing Alexandra.
Arina turned sharply when she heard Aya fall, and paced over to the girl, offering a hand up, chocking an eyebrow to display her confusion. “What is it?” She asked in a lowered voice, having a feeling that her fall had a less to do with being clumsy and more to do with Ko’s announcement. She could understand the woman’s feelings completely. If Narrick had announced that she was going to have to meet his parents and then made sure that she would know beyond a shred of doubt that his parents were probably wackos, she would have been a little shaken as well. After hefting the girl to her feet, Arina, turned and headed toward the door as well, brushing past her companions to get outside where it was much less crowded. “Yes, thank you for all your hospitality.”
Once all good byes had been said, the group found themselves out on the open road once more, astride their stolen mounts. However, the mountain passes were too steep and windy for the birds to pass under a full load, so they were forced to dismount and lead the animal on foot until dusk when they finally settled down in an outcropping of rock that Ko had pointed out to them. The out cove had char marks from previous nighttime fires, telling of the great usage that this little crag off the main path it had seen. This night, it seemed to be deserted aside from the companions that currently inhabited it.
The morning came in veiled silence, a little fog clinging low to the ground in the early morning hours. The group was packed and ready to go before the crawling mist had time to completely evaporate, and, guided by Ko, they arrived in Moradin before noon.
The city life was in full swing by that hour, the stout little buildings seemingly carved straight up out of the ground were all barricaded against the chill wind whipping off the mountain peaks. The people here were startling similar to the houses that they build, short, stout, and looking as if they could survive a winter in their thick fur gear. The residents were comprised mostly of the mountain elf breed, not a single one of them above five feet tall. As per the norm, there was a spattering of humans and light elves, but most interesting of all were the even more rare members of society; members of Ko’s clan. Most of them sported multiple sets of wings, some feathered, others non, and there were even combinations on the same individual. The few that they came across shouted a warm greeting to Ko, who replied in kind.
Taking a deep breath of the thin mountain air, Ko grinned at his traveling companions. “Welcome to Moradin everyone.”
Now, being a warrior, Auren knew that size wasn’t everything when it came to judging somebody. However, even he was caught off guard when he saw the height of the residents of the town. It was hard to imagine them as serious fighters, and of course, that’s all he really cared about. So, when Farah took his arm, he put his hand over hers and tried his best not to laugh out loud. How did Ko stand it? Then again, maybe growing up around these dwarfs had given him some immunity to it.
Unaware that the two were desperately trying not to bust out laughing, Ko lead them farther into the tow, eventually leading them to a tavern in the center of town. When the barkeep looked up, a wide grin split the short man’s face, and he left his post behind the bar to approach the avian. “Konnan! It’s been a mighty long time since we’ve seen ya, lad! ‘Az yer mum had ya out on one of her adventures again?”
Ko shook hands with the man, a wide smile on his face. “Yeah, something of the like. Out on a destiny trip, like normal.” He gestured toward the group standing behind him, no less smiley than he had been since entering the town. “Bert, I’d like you to meet my travel companions of the last few weeks. They’ve come from Hetia and beyond with me.”
Bert let his eyes wander to each new face, sizing them each up. Of course, he generally knew that the people Ko brought back were the good kind, but it didn’t hurt to be cautious. “And I’m supposing you want me to take care of these greenbacks until you tell yer old mum that she’s got visitors?”
“Aye.” Ko replied, clapping a hand to his shoulder. “I figure she knows when people are coming, but it’s best to be sure.” He looked up to his friends, meeting each of them. “Bert is a friend of the family. I have to travel ahead and get permission from my mother before we can let you into our village. He’ll make sure that you don’t get into any trouble.” Bert nodded sagely, crossing his arms over his stout chest.
Arina gave a slight nod to the man. “Thank you for taking care of us.”
“Don’t fret lassy.” Bert replied, waving off her show of politeness casually. “Konnan and I go way back. A friend of his is a friend of mine, and I look after my friends.”
“Thanks Bert.” Ko said, giving his friend another pat on the shoulder “I should be back in an hour or so to bring you guys back to the village.”
Aya had contently walked in with Ko as she looked at the man he was greeting. He looked reliable. Ko seemed to know him rather well and that set her on ease. She looked around the tavern at the unfamiliar faces, mostly men. Her heart skipped a beat when she heard Ko would be leave them, but she took a deep breath. He was not always going to be around. She still had Arina here. As Ko departed she waved him off and then walked back in.
Kol had grinned at the man at the bar. He liked his attitude. Once Ko left, Kol decided to take a seat at one of the tables. “Well, He should not be gone too long.” He sat back and relaxed.
Farah grinned when Auren had put his hand over hers. They were honestly just like one another. They continued to follow Kol into a normal looking tavern. The first thought that sprang to her mind was alcohol. A good time always came when she was drunk and even more so if she had a room alone with Auren. Sadly her dreams and hopes were crushed when Ko mentioned they would be leaving in an hour. She banged her head softly on Auren’s shoulder in despair.
“Well, make yerselves at home.” Bert said once Ko had left the tavern, motioning for them to take a seat anywhere at one of his tables. With a raised eyebrow, he watched as one of them, the blond bat-winged fellow did just that without any prompting. It took the others a couple of seconds to take a seat as well, and he surveyed their little group, wondering what it was that had brought such a hodgepodge group all together. Then again, they were with Ko, so the reason was probably over his head. “I suppose you’re hungry, eh? It’s nearly time for the lunch rush. I’ll bring you all out something to eat.” With that, the stout man turned and headed off to his position behind the bar, catching the ear of one of his waitresses to tell her to serve their guests before resuming his duty of stocking the alcohol and cleaning up any dishes that came his way.
“Thank you, kind sir.” Kol tipped his head in the man’s direction before watching him leave and speak to a waitress.
“Seems like a nice guy.” Auren said with a grin, his whole perception of these short people changed now that there was the promise of free food coming his way. “If all of Ko’s friends are so generous, I hope that we run into more of them.”
Narrick leveled a glare at the warrior, less than impressed. “I had suspicions before, but they’ve been confirmed now. You really don’t think about anybody but yourself.”
“Hey, you gotta look out for number one, or you’ll end up dead.” Auren replied with a snort, crossing his arms over his chest. “And I think about other people too, yanno. You’re just not seeing the whole picture.”
It was Arina’s turn to give the man a dry look, Narrick having rolled his eyes in response and buried his face in his hands against the idiocy of it all. “At least remember to thank the man before you gorge yourself.”
That warrior flicked her a quick half-hearted salute, grinning all the while. “If you say so, ma.” This earned him an aggravated sigh from Narrick, and a much softer one from Arina, both of their eyes falling to the table in defeat.
Kol looked over to see Narrick’s exasperated look and grinned. The only human in the group and for sure the most cocky. Well, at least they had an hour to rest he thought as he made himself familiar with one of the females in the room sitting behind them. She was a light elf, who was sitting by herself sipping on some unknown drink.
“My lady…why ever are you here alone? You are far too beautiful to be here without a companion.” He said with ease as he turned in her direction.
“I don’t play with little boys.” She said with a cold bite to her voice, before promptly standing and pouring her drink on his head.
Kol stared into the vast distance in utter shock. Never, ever before had his charming not worked on a lady, or at least made her smile. As Aya was commenting on Auren’s behavior she caught the woman stand out of the corner of her eye just in time to see the drink poured on the demon’s head. Her eyes widen as she suddenly had to slap her hand over her face to keep from bursting out laughing.
“Oh….o…Kol…Are you alright?” Aya asked in between giggles.
“….Fine, thank you.” Luckily, for the demon the drink of choice was water. He took a hand through his hair and slicked it back. He was not going to be able to live this down for a while.
Farah did not even try to hold back her laughter at the fellow demon and doubled over laughing as she lightly pounded her fist on the table.
Auren was nearly bent double, clutching his sides as he howled amusement at the unfortunate avian. “Smooth! You should teach me all of your wooing tricks sometimes.” He managed to let go of his sides for long enough to give Kol a round of applause, the largest grin possible on the warrior’s face as he tried to keep from bursting out into unrestrained laughter once more.
Narrick just shook his head first at the display that Kol had put on, then at Auren’s reaction, a soft little sigh of exasperation escaping him. Arina, however, couldn’t help the soft giggle that escaped her, a slight blush rising to her cheeks as she tried to stifle her mirth. Narrick looked to her with an astonished face, but the half-elf could only offer him a small apologetic shrug, a delicate little smile gracing her face that immediately made the man disregard the entire incident.
It was then that one of the bar maids served them their food, salted lamb chops and some very drab looking vegetables on the side. “Enjoy yourselves.” She said with a polite smile before bustling away to continue her work.
After Kol had finished eating, most of his clothing had dried but his mood had not much improved, especially since Auren continued to poke at his open wound. He sighed and pushed his plate away. “I will be on the roof if you have need of me, ladies.” He did not even want to address the males of the group, even though Narrick had done nothing wrong. He stood and informed the owner where he was going in case Ko came looking for him and left the building.
Farah then stood as well. “We still have some time.” She directed towards Auren, making him stand as well. He had been done with his food for a while now, wolfing it down as predicted.
“You should probably stay close, Ko should be back soon.” Aya warned as she took a sip of water.
“Don’t worry, we will be.” She took Auren’s hand and led him out of the tavern. Knowing he would follow without question she did not look back as she led him in between the Tavern and another building. It was a dark alleyway that gave them the privacy she was looking for.
“I have not had you to myself for some time now.” She whispered with a rough voice as she pushed him against the wall. She planted a soft kiss on his neck before finding her way to his lips and kissing him passionately. She had wanted to do this for days but knew it would not be very polite to do so in the healing inn they had been occupying for the past few days.
Aya leaned back in her chair and looked at the Elvin couple and gave them a polite smile. “If you wish to go out for a bit before Ko comes back I will wait here for him.” She knew that each of the couples had wanted or needed some alone time, but for the moment that was hard to come by.
The two exchanged glances, almost as if they were communicating directly to one another without speaking. “No, it’s alright Aya. As you said, Ko will be back soon. And I am a little tired from the trip. Some rest would be nice.” Arina replied, nodding her head politely at the girl.
Narrick nodded his agreement, pushing away his plate. “Besides, if we go snooping around the town too thoroughly, we might find their hiding place.” He gestured toward the door and the empty spaces that Auren and Farah had just vacated. It didn’t take any further explanation on his part for them to understand just what he meant.
“I’ve never been this far west.” Arina said suddenly, looking up at the ceiling and all the craftsmanship that went into the lumber. Runes of protection were inscribed into the main support beams, and the door frames and windows were all hand carved into flowing shapes of dragons, ivy, and other mythical beasts. “I have been to Sethin once, but generally I didn’t get a chance to make a trip across the plains.” There was a slight bitterness to her voice when she mentioned crossing the plains, but otherwise seemed enthralled with the workings of the tavern. “I would like to see the dragon training ground while we are here. I’ve only ever seen the adult cargo dragons before when I visited Lanzoreth.”
“Well, perhaps after we’ve visited Ko’s village, we’ll be able to see the flight docks.” Narrick replied with a small smile, taking his glass in hand and sipping at the water there. Their peaceful conversation, however was about to be ruined, and probably the rest of the day, too.
It started as the ringing of a huge gong that echoed throughout the entire mountain range, then developed into the screaming of women and children as they ran for their lives and the battle cry of men as they grabbed weapons and charged forward. Hearing the commotion outside, Bert and Narrick immediately rose and headed for the door, as well as the rest of the curious patrons of the tavern.
Black flying figures were approaching from the east, the closest ones identifiable as some of the huge cargo dragons. Already, the intruders were attacking the town, soldiers clad in the emblem of the Guild rushing forward from their landing points and attacking anyone within reach.
Narrick swore darkly, wishing that he had his swords. They had been kind enough in the last town to afford them clothing and travel gear, but it was not within their power to also supply them with weapons. “What a time to be caught without a sword.”
“If it’s swords you’re needin’, come this way.” Bert replied, having heard the muttered curse, and ran briskly to the back of his tavern, Narrick following closely. “The damn guild have a thing against us, see, ‘cuz Rak’Orantha, the demon tribe up the hill, is so close. We’re a sort of first line of defense for them.” He opened what appeared to be the entrance to a broom closet, but upon entering, it was revealed to be much more than a storage place for mops. Swords, pikes, lances, axes… every kind of weapon save the magical stones was there. Bert strode forward, reaching out and grabbing a well-used axe, hefting it over his shoulder and transforming instantly from a simple barkeep into a true blue warrior. “Take your pick and get out there quick. The guild won’t wait for us to get ready.” He hustled back out to the street, passing by a stunned Arina as he went.
Narrick found a pair of blades similar in weight, but not the same as his dual scimitars that he was fond of. Following Bert out, he paused briefly to give Arina and Aya a quick word of farewell. “Try to stay safe… I know that it has to be horrible not having your magic to help, but don’t do anything stupid.”
Narrick found a pair of blades similar in weight, but not the same as his dual scimitars that he was fond of. Following Bert out, he paused briefly to give Arina and Aya a quick word of farewell. “Try to stay safe… I know that it has to be horrible not having your magic to help, but don’t do anything stupid.”
Aya smiled back at the two. They were really made for one another. At the mention that they were going to stay, she leaned back in her chair and took another sip from her drink. When Narrick spoke about finding Auren and Farah’s hiding spot she couldn’t stop the giggle the escaped from her. It was so true; they all knew that they were probably in some corner about to do the dirty dance. Well, at least it was a sign Farah was feeling better.
Excitement filled Aya at the mention of going to see the dragons. What huge and majestic creatures. She knew they were used for carrying cargo, but she had never seen one. Her excitement was soon replaced with a twinge of fear, as the city’s warning bells were being sound. She stood up and looked outside in alarm, the very dragons they were talking about were headed right for them. She bit back a dark curse as she realized she was helpless. Aya saw Narrick disappear for a moment and then run back out after giving them a warning to stay safe.
Kol was one of the first people to see the riders coming. He stared at them for several seconds until the loud gong of the warning bell had brought him back to reality. He immediately jumped down from the roof and entered a small shop that was next door to the tavern.
“Please, are there any weapons I may be able to use?” He asked in urgency. His question was met with a young girl running behind a back door. He sighed as he thought she had run away but was pleasantly surprised to see her come back with a rather common-looking sword. This was no time to be judging the quality of the weapon; one was better then nothing. He quickly said his thanks before running out of the shop just in time to see Narrick running out.
“Well, asking for a peaceful day is far too much, eh?” Kol said a little bitter, but was mostly distracted by looking around for enemies.
Farah kissed Auren again as she pulled her arms back and began to undo the buckles to his pants. Once the first buckle was undone she brought her hands under his shirt. Her hands traced up and down his chest feeling his toned muscles. Just as she was about to go down on him the sound of the gong quickly brought her back to reality. She pulled back and fully stood up.
“That…doesn’t sound good…” She said, slightly out of breath. She had no weapons and neither did Auren.
The warrior looked up at the sound of the bells, groaning. “What now?” He asked, dropping his hands from their wandering place around Farah’s waist and back. They hadn’t even managed to get undressed yet and there was already trouble going down. Why now..? Sighing, he let his head fall against the woman’s shoulder, breathing in her scent and trying to calm himself from the sexually charged high he had been about to experience. Their luck really was rotten. “Fine, let’s go check it out.” Reluctantly, he left her side, heading for the main road and rebuckling his belt, surveying the area as they came out into the light. The town was obviously in trouble, from what he could see. People were running in every which direction, and dragons were descending on the town like a scene straight from the apocalypse. Instead of feeling worried about these events, Auren sighed and began a steady jog back to the Inn.
Aya frowned at looked back to Arina. “We have to do something. At least lets help people get to safety.” She suggested. Just going to go hide until the danger was over did not sit well with her.
Arina nodded, agreeing whole-heartedly with Aya. “Indeed. It wouldn’t sit right with me to be stuck here either, waiting to be saved.” A determined scowl made it’s way onto the normally serene half-elf’s face, and she started to exit the inn, only to run straight into Auren, nearly knocking her over.
His cat-like reflexes saved Arina from making friends with the floorboards, and he hefted the slight woman to her feet. “You alright?” He asked, letting go of her once she was properly on her feet again.
“Yes, I should be fine.” Arina replied, straightening her shirt out.
“Right, good. So, where’s pretty boy gone, and do we get weapons?” There was no preamble with Auren, he was all business with the song of battle pumping through his veins. Other than sex, and food, there was nothing that the warrior liked more than a good fight.
Seeing his eagerness to battle, Arina immediately directed him and Farah to the back. “I don’t know where it is, but there appears to be a storage place of some kind with weapons in it.” Seeing the warrior take off for the back with Farah in tow, Arina gave Aya one passing glance before darting outside, taking quick stock of the situation before rushing to the middle of the road where somebody had fallen in the mad rush to escape, helping them to their feet.
Farah followed after the warrior with a sigh. Their luck really was bad. As she was looking around at the chaos that was going on around them, she nearly ran right into Auren. As she was about to ask him what the hell he was stopping so suddenly for, she saw Arina being steadied by him. As she directed them towards the back, she jogged after Auren and gave a slight nod to Aya. As they reached the back room she stood in awe for a moment. There were several weapons hanging around the small room and several more laid out on tables. This village was used to being attacked. She set her sights on a long bow and a quiver full of arrows. She was not used to a long bow, but she was no good at a sword and the other weapons were far too heavy for her. She waited for Auren to make his selection.
~~~~

Narrick had followed Bert into the fray, his unfamiliar weapons slowing down his movement a little as he defended the mountain elf’s left side, keeping out of distance of his deadly axe that he wielded with devastating effect. More of the village men and women had joined the battle with weapons in hand, even a few magic users were present, helping to stave off the flow of Guild soldiers flooding the lines.

However, the Guild had numbers and preparation on their side, and some spell casters of their own. The lines of sturdy mountain folk began retreating under the pressure, and Narrick found himself swept up in the tide of battle, beating a hasty retreat along with Bert, both of them tired but unwilling to give up.

Aya waited for the two to go past them before going outside of the tavern and into the street. She ran down a block or two before she found a young woman screaming bloody murder as one of the dragons flew overhead. She grabbed the woman and shoved her hand into the alleyway.

“Are you trying to draw attention to yourself?!” She asked, coming off meaner then she had meant to.

“N-No! I…” She hung her head in shame; unable to express that she was merely frightened by the humongous creatures flying above.

Aya sighed, and calmed herself before placing a hand on her shoulder. “It’s fine. Just get to somewhere safe, alright?” Her soothing tone calmed the woman enough for Aya to get a small nod and a meek reply before she darted off into another alleyway. Aya went back to the main road to look for more people in need of help.

Kol looped around the edge of the city and scowled as he came up to one of the guild members backing a woman and child into a corner. Rage bubbled up in him and all sense of reason went out of the window. How dare they attack women and innocent children!

“Hey you bastard! Get the hell away from them!” Kol yelled as he stormed out of his hiding place. He charged the man as he lifted his sword and struck the man in the shoulder. His blade was met with the man’s armor and a tingling sensation ran up and down his arms as the sword vibrated.

The racks of swords and cudgels and weapons of all shapes and sizes was nothing but beautiful to Auren, who surveyed his choices with an expert eye. They were pretty common weapons, but of good quality. Grabbing one of the larger hand-and-a-half blades, he turned, nodding once at Farah. “Let’s go kill us some enemies, eh?” He asked with a grin, leading the way back out to the main road to engage himself in the fray directly, letting out a might battle cry that let the mountain elves know that they had reinforcement coming.

~~~~~
From her slight vantage point higher up in the village, Arina could survey the battle in it’s entirety. Caught in the flow of fleeing people, she had been swept up to the top of a hill, and had climbed a ladder in order to mount a roof. Her eyes wandered over the battlefield, taking in everything all at once, her mind moving fast to sort the information. Their side was loosing, and it wouldn’t be very long before the mountain people were overwhelmed. Even now, she could see the cargo dragons flying in behind the lines, dropping off more troops that would inevitably surround the under prepared defenders, boxing them in. She didn’t even want to contemplate what would happen once that happened. Chances were, they would all end up dead. Something needed to be done! But all the available people who could fight had already joined the fray. Clenching her fists tightly, an un-lady-like curse left her lips as she looked to the skies, perhaps pleading with the invisible deity that resided there for help.
By fate or design, at that moment, sorely needed help had begun to arrive in droves. High in the sky, winged figures were soaring down from the mountain range above, diving mercilessly to intercept the dragons that were still in the air. Those who didn’t occupy themselves stalling further Guild reinforcements let force a display of magic, the likes of which Arina had never seen before. The very earth trembled with the amount of power that streamed from the flock of deadly attackers, bursts of lightning and fire striking down at the Guild soldiers. Wind whipped up from nowhere, tornados that caught fire weaving a path of death and deviation through the enemy ranks before they could react properly. She saw ice seemingly materialize out of thin air and form into deadly spears, plummeting to the ground with deadly effect, whips of water knocking the soldiers to the ground even as the very rock split to send unlucky men to their deaths in the yawning chasms.
In another few seconds, the formerly retreating mountain people were rushing forward, chasing off some hastily fleeing Guild troops with cries of victory. The flying magic casters formed groups of five to ten, breaking off and making sure that all the cargo dragons took what was left of their load and got the hell out, small retorts of lightning and flares of fire goading the already frightened beasts on.
Arina found herself letting out a breath she hadn’t known that she had been holding, and made her way back to solid ground just in time to be swept up again in a rushing crowd of survivors that were heading back down into the depths of town, cheering and carrying on like they had been the ones on the front lines. She rolled her eyes at the display, but said nothing, letting her self be carried along in the flow of people, looking out for her companions. With a little surge of panic, she realized that not everyone had made it out of the battle alive, which made her even more frantic to find everybody.
Ko was among those in the attacking squads, and once the invasion had been repelled, he began looking for his companions that he had left. Sharp eyes scanning the masses of moving people below, he tried to pick out any of them, but was specifically looking for Aya. A flash of white caught his eyes, and he descended quickly, folding his wings tight to his body, only slowing the rapid dive when he was a few hundred feet off of the ground. When he landed, it was in a half-run, going to Aya’s side quickly and wrapping his arms around the slight form of the woman, heaving a sigh of relief. “I’m so glad you’re safe!” He said, squeezing her tighter.
Farah gripped the bow and nodded back to Auren as they made their back outside. As he belted out a battle cry, she had split off to get a better vantage point on top of one of the houses. As she drew back the bow she found she was unable to at first. The force to pull the string was far greater then she was used to. Letting out a low growl she pulled back with all her might and was able to string the arrow and shoot. The arrow flailed in the air before dropping to the ground. While it harder to draw back the bow, the arrow actually went pretty far before descending. This was going to take some getting used to. As more enemies poured into the town she lifted the bow once more to shoot. Just as she was about to release a second arrow, the sky behind her light up like no other. She turned just in time to see a tornado laced with fire wiz by her. She stared in awe at the hordes of Avians and spell casters making their way down the mountains.
Just as Kol was about to engage in battle with the man he had stuck with his sword, the ground had opened underneath them. Suddenly air had replaced the solid ground Kol was once standing on and in a spurt of quick thinking, beat his wings hard in order not to be trapped in the ground that had now swallowed the guild member. He let out a sigh of relief as he thanked the spell caster he found not ten feet from him. The woman and child had fled already and Kol thought it best to find his companions next. He first came into contact with Arina. She was in a large group of town’s people rushing forward, whooping cheers and battle cries at their newfound courage. He pushed through them to get to her side.
“Lady Arina, I am happy to see you are unharmed.” He spoke loud so as for her to hear him over the rather rowdy bunch of people surrounding them. He gently led her out of the horde so as they could look for their companions. “Have you seen anyone else?” He asked once they had finally broken off.
Aya had helped someone off the ground when her attention was brought to the large force of magic being used around them. She had never felt such a surge of power and the air around her crackled with it. After she was done being awe-struck she continued on her way through the town when out of no where someone had run up to her and pulled her into a tight embrace. She only realized whom it was when she heard him say, “I’m so glad you’re safe!” It was Ko. She wrapped her arms around him to return the hug. She took a moment to inhale his scent to relax her nerves before pulling back and reaching up to place a hand on the side of his face before giving him a tender kiss on the lips.
“I’m more then happy to see you…How…” She had no idea how to ask how he knew to bring back an entire fighting squad with him, but she was grateful he had.
Ko released her after a moment, letting his hands rest gently on Aya’s forearms instead of wrapped around her as they had been before. “Oh, them?” He asked, nodding vaguely toward the squadrons of his fellow tribesmen still flying about. “We’ve an agreement with these people. They protect us, and we help them. It works out. Plus, we’ve got a sixth sense when it comes to an impending battle. I’ll tell you… that was the quickest homecoming reception that I’ve ever gotten! As soon as I tried to say hi, I was turned right back out the door and told to gather all the warriors and get back here. Good thing I did, too!” He grinned, scratching the side of his nose almost unconsciously. “A little later, and the defenses might have been over run.”
“Yes, it was looking rather bleak for awhile there.” A smile touched Aya’s face as her avian partner spoke. He seemed so lively and his grin only added to the impression. She looked around and noticed that the Guild was being forced back. She felt pride well up for Ko and his peoples. They used magic so brilliantly and the sheer force of power was awe-inspiring. “Shall we go try and find everyone now?” She suggested.
Ko nodded to Aya’s suggestion, letting his hands fall to hers, taking one and lifting it to his lips, placing a quick kiss on her palm. “Hopefully, they will be okay.” Turning, the avian spread his wings and launched high in the sky, winging up above the roof tops of Moradin, sharp eyes looking out for their companions, separated in the fray of battle.
Blood spattered his face and clothing, some his own, but most of the sticky red liquid belonged to someone else. Auren was busy hacking away at any Guild Soldiers dumb enough to get close enough to him, when quite suddenly, he felt as if the air was shuddering around him. Looking up, he caught the barest flicker of a over-head shadow before all the hair on his body seemed to rise to attention and the air crackled with power, a deafening peal of thunder splitting the air, a white hot bolt of lightning striking the ground just a few feet away. He stumbled back from the force of the spell, covering his smarting eyes with his hands to try and block out the light, a slight ringing now in his ears. Somebody grabbed him from behind, pulling him back, and it took a moment to realize that it was sturdy little Bert, Narrick at his side, fending off more of the Guild as they beat a retreat.
The two forces separated briefly, and from the ground so close to the battle, the scene that was painted for them was probably twice the hell that they had figured before. Now, the bodies of men were falling down cracks in the earth to be swallowed and never seen again, accompanied by spiraling tornadoes of flame that picked men up and burned them alive in a matter of seconds. Even with all the carnage, and to Narrick and Auren’s astonishment, the people began to cheer. The Guild was fleeing now, their raw numbers nothing in comparison to an entire force of angry avians wielding magic with devastating accuracy and effect. As the waves of battle ready bird-men passed over head, a rallying cry came from the mountain defenders, and they surged forward again, picking off those from the Guild that were too slow to get away from the enraged force.
Auren went with them, but Narrick, however, hung back, tired from fighting previously. Their side was winning by a large margin now, and he saw no need to go charge the line as well. Turning back for the inn, he picked up the pace of a light jog, hoping that he would find Arina and Aya unharmed. He had told them to stay safe, but both were rather headstrong women, and the elf had a feeling the two could probably have gotten themselves into danger if they really put their minds to it.
Arina let herself be guided out of the fray, grateful for the helping hand. She was a little disappointed that it was Kol, but at the very least, he was still alive. “It is good to see you unharmed as well, Kol.” She replied, offering the avian a small smile. “Unfortunately, I have as of yet have been unable to spot any of our friends…” She looked over his shoulder, into the throng of people flooding back into town, hoping to catch a glimpse of a familiar face wandering through the crowd.
She did not remain disappointed for long, however, for a shock of blond hair traveling against the flow of bodies appeared out of the crowd, and she knew instantly that it was Narrick. Raising her hand, she waved in his direction until she got an answering wave in return. “Seems that we’re up to three of seven.” If she knew Auren, then he would probably still be hacking away at enemies. Still, Narrick’s presence here without the warrior or his demon lover Farah was a cause for concern. “How does the battle fare?”
“Well in our favor.” Narrick replied once he was close enough to do so without shouting. He nodded to Kol, taking a deep breath before continuing to speak. “It seems that you have seen a good battle as well. I’m glad that we’ve managed to make it out of that little surprise attack alive.”
After the fire-laced tornado had passed Farah, she held her bow limply in her hand. ‘Man, Aya and Arina suck compared to these guys.’ She let the adrenalin run out of her as she looked below onto the ground. She jumped off of the building and landed gracefully. She took a look around to see if she could find Auren and was in luck as she heard the crunch of metal being beaten in and the battle yell of her lover. She let a grin spread across her face as she saw the last of his opponents fall at his feet.
“Ooi! Auren! Having some fun, are ya?!” She yelled, and started to walk closer so as not to have to yell. As she was about one hundred feet from Auren and Burt, Farah stopped dead in her tracks. The grin faded from her face and she stared at him with wide eyes. After a few more seconds, she coughed and blood spattered in front of her. Farah tried to take a step toward him and as she did she stumbled and fell to the ground.
As she fell, a Guild member was reviled, holding a bloody dagger that had pierced Farah’s back, just under her lungs. “Damn demon bitch. Shot my companion and think you will live?!” He kicked her side hard for good measure as a small pool of blood began to form around her. Satisfied that the demon would not live, he looked up from his victim to see Auren and Burt with his men slaughtered by their feet. Fear over took the man as he darted down an alleyway.
Kol grinned at the elf. “I agree. I am thankful for Ko’s people getting here so quick.” For once, it seemed as if things went all right. He looked over to see Auren and Burt had finished off their attackers. “Seems they had fun.” He gestured to the two as he saw Farah walking up from not far back. “Hey, there is Lady Farah-“ He was cut short when he saw the glint of armor catch his attention just next to her and in almost slow motion watch him run a dagger through her. His mouth gaped open wide, the shock of how sudden it was leaving him speechless.
At Farah’s called, Auren had turned, ripping his notched blade from the corpse of his latest victim, the man falling to his knees and gurgling out his last breath as blood poured from the fatal sword wound and dripped from the corners of his mouth. Looking around to see who had called him, a small smile appeared on his face, and he raised his hand to wave a hello. However, his rather pleasant mood quickly turned into one of horror when he saw Farah fall, her own crimson blood staining her chin and front of her clothes as she fell.
He heard somebody scream in denial, and was unaware that it was him that had done so until Bert swung around, expecting to see the young warrior cut down by a Guild member. What he saw, however, was the man bolting up the hill toward a fallen woman, and the short mountain elf picked up that pace after him, knowing that the defense line he was leaving behind would do just fine without his axe.
When Auren reached Farah’s side, he practically fell to his knees, sword clattering to the cobble stone ground as he all but tossed it aside, turning the woman over and cradling her shoulders and head in his arms. “No Farah, no!” He repeated, amongst a slew of other senseless words and cursing as he tried desperately to keep the woman’s eyes open. “You can’t just up and die like this!”
A muffled scream escaped Arina as she saw the demon woman go down, and found herself running the short distance that separated their little group of three without even realizing it. So caught in the moment, she didn’t even realize that Narrick had immediately taken off after the man who’d done it, disappearing into the alley way as well.
He wasn’t even sure if he’d be able to kill that Guild bastard, he only knew that something had to be done, and at the moment, tracking down that fleeing soldier was the best that he could do. Driven by a deep seething rage, Narrick had sheathed his swords, running full tilt down the confusing network of alleyways, always just one turn behind his target. Adrenalin was the only thing keeping his feet from failing him, for already tired from the battle, the elf could feel his last reserves of strength waning away to nothing. If he couldn’t catch the man soon…
Narrick’s lucky break and the man’s downfall came in the form of a dead end, three houses positioned so closely together that the only route out was by turning around, an option that was simply not possible for the Guild soldier. Perhaps he had lost his sword in the fray, or maybe he’d been a bowman before either his bow had been snapped or quiver run dry of arrows. Whatever the case, the only thing the man had left was his dagger, still glistening with the red blood of his latest victim. Mustering the last of his fleeting bravery, the man squared of against Narrick, who had drawn his blade and was slowly advancing.
A flicker of reorganization passed over the soldier’s face, and he looked all at once frightened and cynical, trying to turn his fear into a haughty tone as he spoke to the elf. “I recognize you. You’re one of those blasted criminals that the whole Guild is after.”
“Oh good, then I can spare you the introductions.” Narrick replied bitterly, still steadily advancing on the man, trying to judge his movements. The dagger was too small to mount a proper defense against his blade work, and they both knew it. The man was just buying time by talking, backing himself further and further toward the wall, trying to stave off his inevitable death.
“You can’t win, you know.” He said, his heel finally making contact with the wall behind him. The soldier knew very well that he wasn’t going get out of here alive unless he could distract the advancing elf enough to slip by, and even that was a long shot. So, voice cracking with nerves and fear, he kept talking. “No matter where you run, we’ll find you again, and one of these days, you won’t have those blasted winged spell casters to help you and your fellow scum out of your mess.”
“It’ll be harder to make idle threats when you’re dead.” The elf growled, lunging forward with his swords, slapping the dagger and all hopes of what defense it could provide out of the flailing soldier’s hand with the flat of his blade, his fluid movement bringing the dual swords to the man’s neck in an X, halting just a hair’s breadth from slicing the man’s throat open wide. “Why do you pursue us? What have we done?”
The man was trying to melt into the wall, to get away from those blades, but he didn’t dare move, and wouldn’t speak until he felt cold metal against his skin, prompting him to answer Narrick’s questions. “It’s the orders we’re given by the higher ranks.” He whispered, eyes locked onto the elf’s and cold sweat pouring off his face. “We’ve got to obey them. Your kind will bring ruin to our world, damn filthy beasts!” Mustering his last bit of courage, he spat into Narrick’s face, knowing full well it would be his last act of defiance.
Wiping off the saliva with his sleeve, Narrick pulled back swords, examining the trembling soldier for a second, before lashing out suddenly, his left blade shooting forward and stabbing the man in the center of his body, right above the level of his hips, the sharp blade running through flesh like a hot knife through butter until it hit the wall behind the soldier. He gasped, eyes flying wide and unable to scream as he scrabbled at the blade, trying to get it out of his body.
Narrick twisted the blade once, then withdrew it with a mighty jerk, letting the man fall face down on the ground. “Perhaps one day we will meet in hell.” He whispered, turning on his heel and walking away. A slight sound stopped his angry walk, and he turned slightly to listen to the last dying whispers of the soldier.
“You can’t… escape. Even God… is… against you…” A shaky laugh escaped his lips, then his breath rattled in his chest, and the man seemed to crumple inward, death stealing upon his corpse.
Spotting a group of familiar figures among the milling crowds behind the now dwindling battle lines, Ko banked for the ground, immediately feeling like something was wrong. It appeared that Farah had fallen, and a distraught looking Auren appeared to be trying to shake her to wakefulness. Heart sinking, he landed, running the last few steps to their side. Immediately, the situation became clear to him. Farah had been wounded, perhaps fatally. Thinking quickly, he gathered a quick burst of magic and sent a bolt of pure energy straight up into the air. Within minuets, a squadron of his fellow tribesmen came into view in the air above them, circling down until they landed by the group, regarding Ko with curiosity.
“What is it, Konnanaliz?” One asked, a male of Ko’s height, but sporting a shock of brilliant orange hair and two sets of batwings with blood-red membranes between the elongated finger-like bones. His eyes fell to the woman on the ground, and immediately he appeared to fall into deep concentration. “She will die.”
“Do we have any field healers nearby?” Ko asked, apparently undaunted by the man’s prediction.
“A few ones with minor stones. Our true healers have been left in the village.” The man replied, shrugging in apology.
“Then we will take her there.” Ko said quickly, pointing to the four other avians standing behind the man he was speaking with. “You four, grab something to carry her in. We will transport her to the village to be properly healed. Garrowin, Assemble what healers we have that are free. We need to patch this wound before we can move her.”
Garrowin nodded, turning and taking flight in a flurry of wings, the four others disappearing to find a hide or other large piece of material large enough to carry Farah in. “We need to rip up some cloth and staunch the bleeding. We haven’t got long.” He looked to Aya, knowing that she was the resident healer among them to back him up in this.
Blood trickled from Farah’s mouth and onto the cobblestone she now was laying on. It was odd; the initial shock of the cold metal ripping through flesh and bones was now just a dull ache. She tasted a warm copper like taste and her attempted to close her eyes. She was so tired. Just as she was about to succumb to a blissful sleep, someone yanked her from the ground and cradled her to their chest while wrapping strong arms around her. It felt…comforting. What was wrong though? She was hardly aware when Auren tried to tell her she couldn’t die on him. Die? She was just tired. Farah opened her mouth to speak, but no sound was produced. It was far too exhausting to try again. Inhaling became difficult and her breathing came out in ragged wheezing.
Kol was snapped out of his state of shock after hearing Arina’s soft cry. He saw both elves take off and he followed shortly after. As he came upon Auren and Farah his stomach rolled in protest to him advancing. Blood formed a small pool around the two. He looked up just in time to see Narrick taking off down an alleyway and assumed he was going after the man who had done this.
Aya watched Ko place a small, warm kiss on her hand and she smiled. "Yes, let’s hope." She agreed and took to the skies after him. After a few moments of following him, she noticed his sharp descent and immediately knew something was wrong. She looked down to see Auren and Farah covered in blood and surrounded by a small group of people. Her heart began to pound in fear as she landed next to Ko. She bent down across from the warrior attempting to keep Farah awake. She looked up to see Ko send out a bolt of lighting and several more avians soon take their place beside Ko. He was right the only way to save her would be to get her to a healer as soon as possible. Aya nodded once Ko addressed her.
"Auren…" She spoke softly. "We can try to help her. We need to lay her on her stomach so I can try to help stop the bleeding some. If you can just talk to her that would be helpful." She waited until he had turned her over for her to pull out the cloak she had been carrying. Ripping a piece of cloth from the material, she placed it over the gushing wound and pushed down hard.
A soft cry of pain escaped Farah the moment the pressure was applied. "I know it hurts, Farah, just stay with us." Aya cooed, hoping the other avian’s would be back soon to transport her.
Farah could hardly feel the move back onto the cobblestone. The biggest difference was the warmth the body was providing was now gone. A cold sensation ran through her entire body as she closed her eyes. Immediately she was ripped from any amount of bliss as a sharp pain ran through her back. She would have screamed if she had the breath to do so but only a small cry escaped her lips. She wanted to pain to stop, to just go back to drifting away from everything.
Aya frowned as she saw Farah’s eyes begin to roll back. Her skin was so pale the crimson blood that was on her stood out against it. Aya noticed that the cloth she was using has been completely saturated. She reached back to grab another piece of cloth and pressed it back against the wound, earning her another moan from the demon woman.
Nodding to Aya’s words, Auren managed to collect himself, helping to roll Farah back onto her stomach. "Ko and some of his people are going to get you healed, alright Farah? Just hang on until we can get you patched up, all right? Just… hang on…" Auren’s voice had dropped low, a hint of vulnerability that the toughened battle-crazed warrior hardly ever showed, and Arina didn’t miss it.
Taking a few steps forward, she placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, looking at the man until he met her eyes. "Auren, she’s going to be okay. We’ll get her to safety." He nodded once, and then the half-elf woman started ripping up the bottom of her shirt, handing Aya the torn fabric. "It would be nice if they could get here faster, though." She mumbled, looking at all the blood that covered Farah’s back and Aya’s hands. "How can I help?"
Ko paced just a bit behind them, looking up to the skies every few seconds to try and find Garrowin again. The four that had run off to get something to transport Farah with came back first, bearing several thin sheets and some thicker blankets, as well as a fully tanned cow hide with holes bored into the edges that would allow for them to tie ropes to it in order to carry her more easily.
"We got everything we could find." A woman said when they got closer, her wings a silvery blue peppered with black, though she had three sets of the feathered appendages instead of just two, and her eyes were a strikingly clear ice blue. "Is Garrowin back yet?"
Ko shook his head, looking down at Farah. "He has yet to return. Tear up the thinner sheets and use them as a rough bandage. She’s bleeding out."
Two of the avians holding blankets and sheets nodded or grunted in consent, and immediately set to ripping up one of the sheets, handing the strips to Aya and Arina to help staunch the flow of dark blood dripping out of Farah. A rush of wind signaled the return of Garrowin, having picked up another one of his tribesmen, this one bearing only a single set of dark black feathered wings.
"Dorio is the only one that I could find that wasn’t desperately needed elsewhere." Garrowin said to Ko’s questioning gaze.
Immediately, the black-winged avian dropped to his knees, his dark eyes scanning Farah’s wound quickly before pulling out his healing stone and applied his hand over Aya’s, closing his eyes and falling into a deep level of concentration.
"I am sorry Konanaliz. This is the best that we can do." Garrowing apologized again, stepping closer to Ko with slightly slumped shoulders.
Ko shook his head, watching Dorio working his magic on the wounded Farah. "If it is the best that we can do, then it is all that I could possibly ask. Thank you, Garrowin. I’ll need the service of your squadron in order to take her to the village."
"I understand Konanaliz. Lead them well. I will see where else I might be needed." The two men shook hands, and turning, Garrowin was off again, leaving the other four to Ko’s command.
He knelt down next to Dorio, placing his hand gently on the man’s shoulder. "When you can do no more, let us know, and we will begin to move her." His voice was low, soft and peaceful. It was the kind of voice that wouldn’t break your concentration, which he knew very well, was what Dorio needed. Though he had control over the art of healing, he wasn’t nearly as skilled with it as he was the roaring flame that he could produce with the firestone hanging from his neck. The black-winged man needed every ounce of concentration he could muster in order to try and heal the ragged artery that was pouring blood.
Eventually, he managed to seal it up and start the process of healing the softer tissues that had been damaged on the inside. Heaving a huge sigh, he opened his dark eyes and leaned back, looking exhausted. "I am sorry that I can’t do anymore than this. My skills lie more in the area of destruction rather than those of healing." He offered the apology to Aya, then turned his eyes to Arina and lastly to Auren, instinctively knowing that the warrior man was probably the most affected by the demon woman’s critical state of health.
"Lets start to move her, then." Ko said, helping Dorio to his feet and steadying him while his energy returned after the laborious duty of performing such a small healing project.
Aya kept focus on the work she was doing but she felt a pang of sympathy towards Auren when he was speaking to Farah. She looked back up from her work when Arina had offered her help as she grabbed the piece of cloth from her hand. "The more cloth to help stop the blood, the better." She had already pressed several pieces on her back, and every one was sopping wet.
Sending a small prayer out that help had finally arrived and a healer no less, Aya sighed. She moved over slightly to give him room to drop down besides her. Aya continued to apply pressure as his hands covered over hers and a warm sensation began to run through her hands.
Farah’s moaning became silent as the warm sensation began to take over and replace the continuous pain Aya was inflicting on her. She was able to open her eyes enough to see Auren staring back down at her. Her heart ached at the expression he was giving her. Was she really as bad as they were making it seem? Sensations were too far off for her to really judge. With what strength she had she slowly dragged her arm across the ground and placed her hand on top of his. Her grip was barely noticeable, but she tried.
As the healer finally got the bleeding to stop, Aya noted his pale complexion. Healing was not an easy task even more so for one who does not specialize in it. Aya was finally able to let go of the pieces of cloth and she stood. Her arms, all the way up to her elbow were splattered in Farah’s blood. Once Ko said they could finally get going it was quick moving action. The remaining avian’s, and Kol prepared the material for Farah to be carried in while the rest of the group organized to move out and help shift Farah to be transported.
Farah’s hand slipped from Auren’s as she was gently picked up and placed onto the cowhide that had been prepared for her. As she was being moved, the world seemed to spin. The amount of blood loss was becoming apparent as her vision began to grow dark and shortly after, she lost consciousness. Not long after that, was the group in the air and making their way to the village.
Aya looked at the blood she was covered in and the pool that was in front of her. There was so much. Any human would have gone into shock, and died by this point. She shot Ko a nervous glance and then took to the skies after them.
Kol decided to stay on the ground with Narrick, Arina, and Auren. They would get there long after the rest of the avians would, so he felt it best to stay back with the other. He gave a nod to Ko and waited for the rest of the group to be ready.
A frown crossed Ko’s face, not only at the realization of what a dire situation it was that Farah faced, but at the absolutely stunned look that Auren had on his face. As if he couldn’t quite comprehend what was going on just yet. The warrior had been confident and joking the entire time the two had know one another, so to see him in such a state of depression was disconcerting to say the least. Clapping a hand to the man’s shoulder, he helped lift Auren to his feet. “We’ll save her. I promise, we’ll do everything we can to save her.”
Auren nodded, returning the gesture of kindness by patting Ko’s shoulder a couple of times. “I just hope that everything you’ve got is enough.” The two men exchanged glances before Ko turned away, looking for his mountain elf friend.
“Bert! Would you show these guys the way to the winding path? They have permission to go to my village, and seeing as time is of the essence, I can’t stay to escort them myself.” Ko said, approaching the battle-stained elf, the little man looking quite grim.
“Aye Konnan, I’ll get them started on their way. Don’t you worry about it.” Bert replied, pounding a clenched fist to his chest once as a sign of his promise, surveying what was left of the group now that the others carrying Farah had left. “Where’s the blond elf man?” He asked, noting that they were missing an extra head.
At that moment, Narrick appeared, his swords sheathed and a grim look on his face. “Right here, Bert.”
Ko nodded, having a feeling that the elf wouldn’t have been among the slain. “Aya and I will fly ahead now. Farah will need your healing talents. Our tribe is not known for members with high caliber healing powers.” With a sad smile, he extended his wings once more and took off into the sky after his tribe mates, quickly overtaking them and leading the way back to their hidden village amongst the mountains.
Bert watched them fly off before turning to the ones left, the elf warrior, half-elf woman, the human warrior and Kol. “Well, come with me then. I’ll show you the way to the stairs. It’s going to take a long while to get to the top, mind. Nobody walks up the Winding Path just for the hell of it.” He gestured for them to follow, leading the small group toward the western edge of the village and gestured toward what appeared to be the entrance to a shrine. “This is it, the Winding Path. I wish you God speed and good luck for your friend.” Giving them a small bow, he turned and headed back toward the village, having no interest in walking up the stairway with them.
Narrick looked through the stone arches that comprised the shrine-like entrance, his eyes traveling up the hundreds of steps until the path wound out of sight around a corner. “He wasn’t kidding. I don’t see why anybody would climb this just for the sake of doing so.”
Heaving a small sigh, Auren took the first step up the stairs. “Well, I suppose it’s a good thing that we’ve got a real reason to go up all of these then, eh?”
The flight to the demon village was silent, save for the wind in their ears and the whipping of fabric as the avians flew, following the steady path that Ko followed, though any of them could have just as easily found their way home. The scenery was not remarkable in any sense of the word, simply just barren mountainside with little defining features. They flew for a good few minuets before coming to a particularly large mountain. Instead of trying to bank sharply upwards to get over it, they dropped altitude, diving into a wide-mouthed cave that was wide enough to admit all of them abreast of each other but was not tall enough to admit something so large as a fully-grown cargo dragon. The darkness would have been complete, but Ko summoned some of his magic, a warm glow encasing his being as he navigated the cavern with practiced ease, the others following unflinchingly into the winding darkness. All of a sudden, light seemed to attack them from all angles, and the cavern exit was fading into the distance, the smell of sea salt in their air and the first greenery for miles now in abundance before their eyes.
The village was positioned on large flats of mineral deposits, the ground a swirled mixture of yellows, reds and whites that contrasted sharply in comparison with the dull red-gray mountains surrounding them on all sides and the dark pine forest that had taken root in this tiny valley. Below and to the left was a winding snake-like footpath comprised of stairs cut into the very rock of the mountainside. Ahead on the mineral flats, tents had been pitched among the multi-leveled, people of the tribe walking in, out, and around them like any other town, the lower flats obviously more of a market place while the upper flats had smaller tents for residential purposes. Higher up, the mineral flats became the dull rock once more, though there was a very major difference with this portion of the mountain; three huge dark holes could be seen, signifying the massive caves that lie beyond that served as the primary shelter for these mountain avians.
They flew directly over the market and residential flats, heading toward the smaller of the three cave openings. Ko lead them to a decent, not slowing after he had landed and simply had a running land that took him out of sight and took him into the depths of the cave. The other four laid Farah down carefully, the woman with the peppered wings walking toward Aya. “As outsiders, neither of you can enter the ceremonial cavern without permission from our seer, Sel’Orinathia, Konnanaliz’s mother. He will retrieve her and the healers within and bring them out to see to your friend.” She said, her voice firm, but her eyes held sympathy for Aya and the wounded woman.
PostSubject: Re: Aero and Tajy ((In Dream World))   Aero and Tajy ((In Dream World)) Icon_minitimeSat Jun 05, 2010 5:08 am
Kol looked at Auren with a frown. He looked so out of it, but seemed to gather himself back up as Ko had given him some insperational words. He followed the group with Bert to the winding path. Kol felt his eye twitch once the stairs came into view. There were hundreds of stairs. He watched Auren go first, they would have to try to get there as soon as possible. He followed after Auren, taking two steps at a time. "This shall be a good workout..." He mumbled and continued to make his way up the stairs.
Aya watched as the landscape changed around them. It wasn't anything too exciting to the eye, until out of no where a new landscape came upon them. She smelled sea salt in the air as they came close to a rather large mountain. As she noticed that they were not going over the mountain, but in her heart began to beat like crazy. She was not used to this area so any sharp turns or drops could spell a disaster for the female avian. As they entered the cave Aya tried to adjust her eye sight to the darkness, but was relieved when Ko set the cave aglow with this magic. She followed closesly behind as they continued to fly through the cave until she saw Ko descend.
She landed as well and watched as Ko disappeared and the rest of the Avians landed. As the other female approached her, she nodded. She didn't like that Farah had to wait, but she had respect for other peoples cutsoms. "I understand." Aya said, before walking over to Farah. She inhaled sharply upon seeing her. Her skin was grey, almost translucent. She had dark circles under her eyes and she was starting to shaking. They had to be fast or she wouldn't make it.
Ko's return could be heard before he was seen, the shuffling of wings, fabric and feet following him out of the cave as he and a handful of women followed him out of the cave, all bearing different color schemes and numbers of wing sets. Foremost among them, and perhaps the most striking in appearance, was a willowy woman with three sets of black bat wings, a white cloth tied around her eyes and every article of her clothing had some sort of bell or other jingly object attached to it. The way she moved was almost ghost-like, and even though the woman was obviously blind, she didn’t once stumble or reach out to seek guidance from the others around her for direction. She simply seemed to know where she was going and what to do.
“Give the girl a stone, Amidailyah.” The bat-winged woman said, her voice soft and weathered, the voice that belonged to the sort of woman that was wise far beyond the norm.
At her command, one of the women with light brown wings speckled with white stepped forward, offering Aya a box that contained within it several healing stones of different quality and size. “Please, pick the one you like most. We will need your help if we are to save your friend.” She murmured, holding the box steady for Aya. The others had already knelt next to Farah, passing hands over her would and examining it carefully, the warm glow of healing magic lighting up the wound occasionally, the healers resting hands on the shoulders of one another as if silently communicating while they healed, sharing their communal knowledge of the subject.
Ko walked to the bat-winged woman’s side, holding his hand out palm up, which the woman took readily, her fingers skimming over his skin quickly. “Mother, may we transport Farah into the ceremonial caves once she is fit to be moved again?” He asked, leaning close and talking in a soft voice.
The woman nodded, her hand reaching up and touching her son’s face lightly. “Do not frown so, my child. What is will be, and there is little that we can do otherwise. You have done all you can.” She waited until Ko nodded silently before dropping her hand, the other clasped around his palm reaching up to grasp his forearm, turning her face in the direction of Aya and cocking her head. “You have been quite rude, my son, keeping a guest from me? Come forward dear, and tell me your name.” The seer held out her hand, gesturing for Aya to approach.
Aya looked in the direction of noise coming from down the hall from where Ko had gone. And soon enough him and a large group of women had come out with him. The woman in the middle of group had obviously caught her attention. She moved with the grace of someone who could see even if it was clear that the woman was blind.
As the woman had order to get Aya a stone, she stood up and was approached by another female avian who held out a box of stones to her. There were so many to pick from but one in specific called to her. It was a medium size stone that was of a mostly clear color with a light tint of a peal color to it. She picked it up and weighed it in her hand. It felt right, and fit perfectly into her hand. "Thank you, so much for this." She bowed slightly.
Aya was about to go to Farah when Ko had mentioned that the blind woman was his mother. She felt her blood pump a little faster. She was meeting her...covered in Farah's blood...It only made her far more nervous when she had looked in her direction. When she told her to come over, she obeyed.
"My name is Aya..." She said softly.
The woman frowned slightly when Aya didn’t immediately reach out and take her hand, the her bat wings, a soft fawn color, dropping a little. So, fingers wandering blindly for a second or two, she suddenly took hold of Aya’s hand, drawing her close while her sensitive fingers flew over the ridges and grooves in the girl’s palm, a slight frown on her lips as she “read” Aya. After a few seconds of examining her hand, she seemed content, and moved on to place both hands on either side of Aya’s face, tracing her cheeks, the corners of her eye and mouth, before seeming completely satisfied with her examination. “You seem like a pretty girl, Aya. Konnanaliz has not had the chance to tell me all about you and the others that he has been traveling with, but I can tell that you are a kind soul. Please, call me Eniryah.”
Just behind her, Ko was trying to give Aya a silent apology for his mother’s treatment of her. He looked once to the people surrounding Farah, then placed a hand on his mother’s shoulder. “They’re done blessing Farah, mother. We need to get her healed as soon as possible…”
“Oh yes, well then, Aya, please close your eyes… I must bless you as well before you can be let into our hollowed healing grounds. There’s a curse on it, you know.” Eniryah said with a small grin, her hands fluttering to Aya’s face once more, then began chanting, her voice low as she recited the words in an ancient language that was little known, and less spoken, one that was perhaps as old as Ra’Oath. As the spell reached it’s end, the power evoked by the spell fell over Aya, bathing her in a blanket of coolness that seemed to cover her entirely before the sensation disappeared.
Heaving a deep sigh, Eniryah took her hands from Aya’s face, then gestured toward the cave mouth where the others were already carrying Farah inside. “You are now permitted entrance, my child. Help us to heal your friend.”
Aya had to keep herself from jumping back when the woman reached out and grabbed her hand. It was obvious she wasn't exactly expecting it. She kept herself calm as the woman looked over her hand and released her once she seemed satisfied. She was a little less suprised as the woman moved on to feel around her face.
"Thank you...Eniryah." She said softly, she had no idea how to handle this. As Eniryah mentioned having to be purified she did as instructed and closed her eyes. The language was like nothing she had ever heard and after a short while a cold sensation ran through her body. She shivered for a moment and then it was gone.
"Yes, of course." Aya mentioned as she was directed into the cave. She followed after the people carrying Farah and pulled out the new stone she was given. A half an hour later, when Aya was completely sure that every muscle, vein, bone, and patch of skin was healed, she leaned back against the cave wall. The color completely drained from her face.
Aya looked to the nearest healer that was among them. "She should be stable now. It's up to her if she can recover from the blood loss. Thank you, everyone." She mentioned to the small group around her. Not long after the healing, Aya could hear the rest of the group nearing the entrance. As she closed her eyes, a smile came to her face. Auren is probably giving whoever is out there hell for not being able to come in. Such a simple man.
~~~~ 2 days later~~~~

Aya walked into Farah's room for what seemed like the 100th time in the past 48 hours. The demon woman had yet to wake, and it was starting to worry her. Yes, she had lost a huge amount of blood...but still. She checked all Farah's vitals and sighed. At least nothing was getting worse. Auren had been hovering around and in the room as well, so...it should be fine to take a break...Aya thought. She walked into the hall and stretched her sore limbs.

Kol had poked his head in the room a few times, but knew he would be no good. There was on thing he thought he could do. Visit the weapons master of this town. They all needed good weapons and the very least Kol could do was look into getting ones that he knew would be the best for them.

The walk up the long trail had taken them half an hour to trek, and upon arriving, they had met with curious stares and a single guide that lead them to the upper terraces. Somebody had made the mistake of telling Auren where Farah was being healed up, while simultaneously neglecting to tell the exhausted human that there was a barrier over the entrance that would prevent him from entering. The result was a temporarily unconscious Auren who had to be carried away to a tent to recover from the spell’s effects.

Narrick and Arina used the downtime presented by two unconscious members of their group to recoup a little, and catch up on some badly needed sleep. They had been given a multi-room tent that was common among the tribe. During the summer months, the mountain dwelling folk set up their canvas homes outside their dwelling caves deep in the mountainside. It was comfortable, but simple, with padded hammocks for beds and cushions on the carpeted ground meant for sitting around the low table in one of the square canvas rooms. They were supplied with food and clothing by Ko, who used his considerable influence within the community to procure the items. It certainly helped that his mother seemed to have taken a liking to them, and felt that it was a small burden to be helping out travelers that were essentially living on the graces of fate.

The four winged avian had seen Aya making her normal rounds to Farah’s room, and followed her quietly, watching her as she checked the downed demon’s vitals to make sure that she was still doing okay. He realized that there wasn’t much more that they could do, Aya had said so herself! But he also realized that, aside from Farah being a friend, she was also Aya’s patient, and that was a duty that the woman would feel incapable of failing. It wasn’t in her nature to let somebody die on her watch.

As Aya walked past him and out into a more public area, he reached out and tapped her shoulder gently, a soft smile on his face. “Hey, come this way. You’ve been in here for far too long, it’s time to get you some fresh air.” He held out his hand for her to take, nodding toward the exit.

As Aya had walked into the hall she felt a tap on her shoulder. A smile came to her face when she had seen it was Ko. She had not gotten much time with him over the past few days so his invitation sounded rather nice. She slipped her hand into his and let him lead her outside. Being out in the fresh air really might be a good idea. She had been inside for the past two days as it was.

“I think I agree.” She smiled up at him. She had not done much healing but due to her running around non-stop for two days bags had started to form under her eyes. She leaned her head on his shoulder ever so gently and waited to see where he was taking her.

Ko leaded her to the edge of the village, releasing her hand and slipping his arm around her shoulders when she leaned against him. They descended from the high mineral flats through the village, out to where the sounds of everyday life began to fade and the tangy smell of salt prevailed, the dull roar of the sea echoing off the sharp peaks that surrounded the narrow valley. “It’s always so calm and peaceful here… really easy to forget what sort of troubles are going on in the outside world.” He mumbled to himself, letting his arms slip from her shoulder and back down to her hand. “But I won’t be able to stay long, I never do. I’m heading out on another mission that’ll take me a couple of days to complete… I’d like you to come along, Aya.”

Aya leaned into him as he wrapped his arm around her. She let out a content sigh being underneath his strong arms was comforting. As she looked around a faint sound caught her attention. It sounded almost like a woman screaming. She blinked a few times, not hearing it anymore. Perhaps it was the wind playing tricks on her ears. She shrugged it off as nothing as Ko led her near the cliffs and he placed his hand back in hers. She thought about his question. Farah was stable and it would be nice for the others to get some more rest anyway...That and she would get some more time with Ko.
“Of course I would, if you so want me to.” She smiled and then looking like she was in thought once more. “Though…I can’t be of much use without my wind stone…” She frowned now, while she knew it wasn’t her fault, she had felt bad that the treasure she was given was now gone. “And what is it that we’re doing anyway?”

When she agreed to come along, his typical boyish grin surfaced, and he squeezed her hand gently. When she brought up her lack of a wind stone, his grin only widened, and he gestured toward the village. “Don’t worry about it. We’ve always got all sorts of stones resting in the ceremonial caverns. I’m sure that nobody would mind if I let you have one. As for what we’ll be up to…” He looked like he was thinking over his next words, a rare expression that he didn’t often indulge in. “Well, my mother didn’t send me on this one, it’s all my idea. I figured that without our ground-bound companions, we could make it back out to the northern plains in no time and pay a visit to our little plainsmen friends.” A brief shadow of anger seemed to cross his face at the mention of the plainsmen, but his tone remained light. “The way I see it, we still have a little score to settle with them.”

She couldn’t help but smile in return as Ko grinned at her. “That would be most helpful…” She mumbled at his first comment. It would be a huge relief for her to be able to be of use once more. She gave him a look when he took a few moments to think over his choice of wording. She knew it wasn’t exactly his style, he just blurted out whatever was on his mind. At the mention of the plainsmen she seems to withdraw a little bit. She looked down for a moment and took a breath to calm herself. “Yes, you are right.” She flashed a small smile at him.

After they were done conversing about the details of the trip, Aya walked hand-in-hand with Ko back to the village and up to where he mentioned the stones being. They had entered back into the ceremonial cave where she had first been. In a small, black box contained the stones. She reached her hand in, hovering over the stones for just a moment until she had felt one that seemed right. She nodded to Ko, showing she was ready to leave as she took one more calming breath. It would be for the best to face these men once more and get it behind her.

By the time they had caught sight of the flicking fires in the camp it was nearly dark. The sun was just about setting and it gave the plains a light amber glow to them. A rather calming scene. Ironcic, Aya thought as she felt a twinge of nervousness set it. It was obvious they would have the upper hand this time, but going back to face any attacker that caused so much damage not only to you but your friends was hard to do.

The setting sun painted the sky a fiery orange and red, the vast plains settling to silence and the slight rolling hills casting long shadows that stretched for miles in the dying light. The two avians were settled on the crest of one such hillock, watching as the bonfires that the plainsmen bandits enjoyed every night. They seemed rather joyous this night, and it wasn’t long until Ko could see what appeared to be a small caravan being torn apart, the goods distributed among the crowd. If there were prisoners captured along with their caravan, then they were being quiet.

Ko retreated from the hillcrest a little and gestured for Aya to do the same, now able to sit up without being seen from the camp. “We’ll need to get in and out as fast as we can. Our sole advantage lies in their overconfidence and a surprise attack. After I leave, you should wait ten minuets before you begin your attack. That should give me enough time to relocate where they’re keeping their main flock before everything goes to hell. If you fall under fire, especially from the mages, get out. Don’t worry about me. I’ll notice that you’re suddenly gone. Got it?”

Aya felt a well of anger build up in her as she looked upon the camp site while they were going through their loot. She pitied the poor people that the wagon had belonged to. Hopefully they took it and ran...but she could not believe they would have let them off so easy. Caught up in her thoughts she almost didn't see Ko flag her over to his current hiding position.

Aya listened carefully to Ko's instructions. While she would always worry over him in battle, she had confidence in him. If he said he would be fine, then she would have to take his word for now. "Yeah, I got it. " She responded back to him, turning her wind stone over in her hand. She was ready to get this started.

“See you in a little bit then. Give them hell.” He grinned and patted her lightly on the shoulder, taking his energy stone in hand and seemed to concentrate for a moment. Then, all of a sudden, he seemed to disappear out of thin air, nothing but a distortion in the air left in his wake, the light reflecting oddly from where he had once sat. “Illusion spell.” Ko’s disembodied voice whispered. Then, from the spot of warped light came the sound of feathers moving, and with a gust of wind and the flapping of wings, he was gone into the night.

He kept a respectful height above the campsite, scouting out the large pen that most of the riding birds would be kept in. It wouldn’t due to be found out so soon, and even though he had managed to make himself nearly invisible, it wouldn’t do to fly through some smoke and have the right pair of eyes looking up at just the right time in order to see the flicker of his form passing through the smoke. Illusion wasn’t something he often used the energy stone for, and it took a surprising amount of concentration to keep up the spell. He almost missed the pen that the birds were being kept in, and had to stop quite abruptly to not overshoot it completely.

Descending on quiet wings, he landed near the locking mechanism, looking it over to see if he could simply just break it off. It wasn’t even that hard; all he had to do was lift the latch and swing open the gate. He didn’t though, not immediately, waiting for a sign that Aya had begun her attack before doing so.

Aya smiled at Ko gently as he touched her shoulder. She had to blink several times as she saw Ko literally disappear right before her eyes. She had a sudden urge to reach out and touch the soft shimmer of light that replaced Ko's form. She was sadly denied the chance as she heard the rustle of his feather and the wind on her face from him taking flight. Oh well...

Aya sat back on the grass, rolling the stone in her hand still. She thought over how she was drawn to this stone. It was rather high quality. She grinned, a sudden thought coming to mind. She remembered the last battle with the guild and the magic users from Ko's Tribe. They used their magic in amazing ways. Why not give it a try...?

She had guessed ten minutes had passed Aya sat up. She was going to have to act quick. She could start the attack without any problems or before any magic users could shoot her down. Seeing as how there was no real coverage she folded her wings in close to her body and slowly made her way down the hill closer to the camp. If anything her white wings were for sure a disadvantage when trying to sneak around.

When she came within ten feet of the camp itself she crouched down in the direction of the nearest fire. Wind stone in hand she closed her eyes. With the image of a tornado firmly planted in her mind she began to exert energy. At first light winds covered the camp but were quickly replaced with violent lashes as a tornado began to take shape over one of the campfires. The wind whipped the ashes and small flames into a small vortex that soon covered over to the next campfire. Soon enough a full fledge tornado laced with fire was ripping through the camp.

Aya was surprised as to how much energy went into making such a force of nature as she sat back, winded. She hoped the camp would be in such chaos that they would not notice her as she recovered from the usage of magic.

The first warning that something was happening came when the sound of startled cries rose above the dull murmur of normal camp noises. Ko didn’t turn to look and see what sort of devastation Aya might have been wreaking on their unfortunate victims, lifting the latch and swinging wide the gate before bursting into the air with a strong flap of his wings and gliding to the back of the cage. Some of the birds had started to poke their heads out of the open gate, but Ko was about to speed up their fleeing process. Gathering energy in his hand, he enjoyed the rush of power briefly before it simply exploded from his fingers, a loud retort of thunder roaring from his position that sent the birds into hysteria. They cried and squawked, fleeing immediately from his vicinity in a mad rush. It wasn’t long until he heard the follow up cries of the men who had begun scurrying around, realizing they were under attack, and took to the air again, not bothering with an illusion spell this time.

He was almost surprised when he saw the deadly firestorm ripping through tents and men and leaving ashes in its wake. Then he remembered that Aya had seen some of his fellows at work, and was put at ease again. Time to distract the men from her position.

Ko wasn’t allowed a very long break, a burst of fire exploding just a little too close for comfort off his left wing. Diving, he abruptly landed and grabbed the nearest torch, lighting any tents within his direct vicinity on fire as quickly as he could before moving on. There was no time to waste now; they had to do as much damage as they could before the mages had time to prepare themselves to attack. He turned a corner and found himself face to face with one such mage. Without hesitation, he launched a crackling bolt of energy that sent the unwary man into convulsions on the ground. Simply leaping over him, Ko went about his business of lighting tents on fire.

The next adversaries came in the form of armed guards, having caught wind that there were at least two attackers and had come after one of them. A spear was launched at him and took a couple of feathers with it, but Ko managed to avoid a second spear throw, another report of energy crackling through the air that downed two of the oncoming men. Seeing that he was severely out numbered, he turned back the way he came and fled, heading for the center of camp to where most of the destruction was. It was time to get out. Their little sneak attack had been played out to its full extent, so making themselves scarce was probably the best idea at the moment. Though, he couldn’t help but toss his flaming torch into a wagonload full of what appeared to be supplies of some sort, and was most gratified when it went up in a ball of flames.

It was going to be a terrible week for the plainsmen.

PostSubject: Re: Aero and Tajy ((In Dream World))   Aero and Tajy ((In Dream World)) Icon_minitimeFri Jul 09, 2010 5:42 am

Having been in the center of the chaos, Aya didn’t run into much trouble while she took the time to recover. The heat radiating off of a near by tent caused several beads of sweat to roll off of Aya’s face onto the ground. She took a moment to survey the damage done in the area around her. All the tents and wagons were either completely on fire or had flames licking just at their feet. This was going to set them back, she thought as she fully stood. As she turned to decided her next move and was met with an arrow whizzing by only inches from her face. Aya didn’t have time to collect her wits as another arrow clipped her shoulder.

Rather annoyed now, Aya took to running to a more covered location until she could find her attacker and bring him down. She slid home base style parallel to a tent that was not yet on fire and some shrubbery. As Aya took a split second to look where the attack was coming from she noted two men not twenty feet from her, perched on a wagon bows aimed in her direction.

Quickly, Aya stood from her position and with one swift wave of her arm, used her wind stone to cut the wheels from the wagon and knock the men backwards. Taking the chance, Aya took to the skies. Bows and arrows were easy to dodge, heal even, but the mages could do some real damage if they were not out of there fast. As she gained altitude she slowed her speed down to a glide. She was at least out of sight enough to where no one could get her by arrow and Ko should be able to catch up.

Only when the adrenaline stopped pumping through her veins did she feel the sting of the wound on her shoulder. She reached her hand to touch it, coming back with blood on her hand. She sighed, how bothersome. She stopped her flight and hovered in the air as she took her healing stone and went to work. At least this wouldn’t take long.

The scorching heat near the swirling infernos was nearly unbearable, but Ko grabbed his anti-energy stone and cast a quick shield of nullifying energy around himself and the flames left him alone. Standing near the center of chaos as he was, he had enough cover from the rising flames of the burning tents and thick black oily smoke rising into the clear skies to cover his escape. Snapping his wings open, he launched himself into the sky and flapped hard, going nearly straight up with the current of the scorching air propelling him ever higher. With his goggles down over his eyes, he could fly straight through the smoke and out the top into thinner and much colder air, taking a moment to rest in the now blue-tinted world that he resided in.

Locking his wings, he dove forward and pulled his goggles back into their resting position atop his head, looking around for his white-winged companion. It didn’t take long to spot her, and his ever-widening scanning circles turned into a straight path toward the hovering figure. When he got close, he hovered along side her, surveying the damage. “Got a couple of nicks then, eh? How’d you fair otherwise?” She didn’t look mortally wounded, for which he was insanely grateful. In fact, she appeared to be doing well closing up the wound that he could see on her shoulder with apparent ease.

((Taj’s reply was lost to space))

Ko followed Aya’s gaze, only just then noticing that he was missing a couple of flight feathers in his wing. A small gruff laugh escaped him as he hovered in the air, pointedly ignoring the dark emotions that flitted across Aya’s face. It was good for her to be able to get revenge on her aggressors. He truly believed that being able to give Aya this opportunity was a good thing. “Yeah, let’s get going then. I’d hate for them to figure out where we got off to.” Ko nodded, glancing once more to his missing feathers before angling toward a distant point in the vague direction of home. “Follow me. If we fly for a half hour, then we should come to a copse of trees that will shelter us for the night.” He looked back once to make sure that Aya was following before setting off on his intended course, keeping relatively high up so as to avoid detection from the ground.

As promised, within a half hour, they were crossing over slightly more hilly terrain and by the light of the waning gibbous could make out the barest outline of a small forest. Folding his wings slightly, Ko angled himself at a steady downward glide, circling the copse in ever tightening circles until he slipped through a narrow gap in the trees over a solitary spring. He landed lightly on the bank, folding his wings tightly against his body to protect against the slight chill of the deep night. The fire tornado had long since disappeared off of their horizon, and this far away from camp, he felt that it would be safe to spend the night here.

The copse was quiet and still, the barest hint of wind tickling the extremities of the trees, the fingers of the branches swaying gently in the light wind. The spring was completely still, and with no stream to feed it, there wasn’t even the trickling of water to disturb the peace. “They won’t find us here. I reckon that they won’t be searching out this far for us.” His voice was a low whisper, as if he was afraid to disturb the tranquil peace of the place, his gaze centered on Aya.

Auren looked up from his painstakingly thorough examination of his sword, having already sharpened it to a fine edge several times throughout the course of the day. There really was nothing to do in this village; no tavern to get drunk in, no adventures to be had in the deep valley, and worst of all, all the women seemed to be impervious to his feeble attempts at securing a bed buddy. In fact, he had been met with thinly concealed hostility on more than one account! So, he had shut himself away in their tent, sharpening both his and Narrick’s weapons on account of being utterly bored, safeguarding Farah’s nearly lifeless corpse. But now, he thought he heard something coming from her portion of the tent.

Adrenalin suddenly spiking, the warrior hurried to her sectioned off part of the tent, and was not disappointed to see Farah moving far more than she had in the past three days since she was struck down. Quietly, he walked to her side and knelt next to her hammock, taking her hand gently.

Aya followed Ko at the leisurely pace they were going to find a resting place for the night. Overall, Aya was content with the chaos they caused. They had not needed to slaughter them all, but to shake their foundation. She hoped to be rid the memories of that terrible night from her mind forever. She was not so hopeful that they would be eradicated but the sharp and vivid memories may fade with time.

As Ko landed, Aya folded her wings and fell into a sharp descent snapping her wings out once more before she hit the ground as she came down into a graceful landing. Her wings folded back once more as she looked around. A smile came to her face as Ko spoke, so gentle! As her eyes reached his she suddenly felt a blush come over her. He was looking at her so intently and it became rather apparent that they would be alone for the night. She spun around quickly, knowing he would not pass the chance to bug her like mad had he known of her sudden embarrassment. Is there nothing that would for a blush to his face?! She thought, frustrated more at herself than him. At thought came to her that might do so, but it only darkened the crimson stain on her face.

As Farah stared up at the ceiling she heard movements and before she could turn her head, she felt a warm hand embrace her own. Auren. She looked over at him. She tried to speak but found that her throat felt as if it was filled with sand. A frown flickered on her face as she swallowed several times. She spoke again, her voice a soft whisper, "You must be rather bored to be hanging around here..." She cleared her throat once more. Farah had questions, but they could wait until she had a glass of water.

“You better believe it was boring.” The warrior replied with a snort, squeezing her hand gently. “But I’ll tell you all about it later. I’ll be right back.” He stood walking away from her prone form in the hammock to find a water skein and handed it to her upon his return. “You gave us quite the scare there, Farah. For a while, we thought that you had bought the farm.” He pulled over one of those huge throw pillows and sat down on it, ready to play twenty questions with her. “Luckily, we were able to get you transported to Ko’s village in time for the healers to save you. They even gave Aya a stone so that she could help out in the healing process.”

Ko raised an eyebrow in curiosity as he watched Aya’s spin away from him, abruptly averting her face. For a moment, he was worried that something bad had happened, but that didn’t last long. A small grin crossed his face as understanding dawned on him. They were completely alone, and the poor girl appeared to be embarrassed. He took the few steps forward that separated them, placing his hands softly on her shoulders. “What’s the matter Aya? Something wrong?” His voice was little more than a whisper, very effectively feigning real concern for her. Oh, he would tease her for this; their time in Hetia during the festival together had taught her that, but he would try and play the game a little bit, give her a chance to redeem herself. After all, there shouldn’t really be anything to be embarrassed about, and he intended to try and get the girl to come to grips with that, even though she was extremely cute when she got all embarrassed it was a little disheartening that Aya had to be so nervous around him all the time. Was he really such a bad person?

A light smile touched Farah's face as the warrior walked away. He really did seem bored, how long had she been out...? Once he returned, she gladly accepted the water and managed a few sips. The cool water felt good running down her parched throat. She listened as he recounted what happened. Once Auren was finished she took another sip of water before speaking. "How long was I out, exactly?" Curiousness, more than anything, rang in her voice. While getting attacked and nearly dying was a rather nasty surprise, it was over now... Why worry?

Farah pulled herself up, rather slowly, into a half sitting position. Her limbs aches and felt heavy so her movements were sluggish. As she was about to say something more, she noted Kol walking into the room with a concerned look on his face.

"I am glad to see you awake, my lady." He said with real concern. While the avian had been out for the duration of their time here, Farah's condition bothered him deeply. Of course it would, she is female after all. He walked over to the other side of her and bent down, giving a nod to Auren. "I need to speak with you for a moment." Kol spoke to Auren, standing once more and heading to the door.

Aya felt the heat in her face as she took a calming breath. This was Ko, it would be fine. Or so she had thought until she felt his warm hands slip onto her shoulders. He spoke as if he held real concern, but she knew better. Of all the time she had spent with him, she knew acting was his strong suit. Well, two could play at that game.

She took one last small breath before turning slowly around to face him. At first, there was a bit of apprehension, but she wanted to go through with it. Her blush no longer apparent on her face and her eyes held a sultry look to them. "Not at all..." She leaned into him, pressing her body close to his. She let her hand travel slowly up his side to find the side of his face. She let her gaze linger on him for a few more moments before leaning up to kiss him passionately. She snaked her other hand around his neck to pull him in closer as she continued.

As soon as she felt Ko was going with it, she pulled back, a grin on her face. "What a nice night out..." she said innocently as she walked towards the trunk of a fallen tree and sat on it, crossing her legs. Even if she didn't surprise her male companion, she was at least proud of her confidence.

“You were out for two days only, and the healers were working on you for a long time. They were afraid that… you wouldn’t make it there for a while.” He recounted painfully, a grimace passing over his face as he remembered waiting very impatiently for somebody to tell him what was going on, be it good news or bad. Mostly in those first few hours it had been all bad, and the forecast wasn’t very good. Though they had gotten her here very quickly, she had still lost quite a bit of blood. Not to mention the stab wound was very near being a fatal thing.

He watched with pensive eyes as she rose to that sitting position, tense and ready to help her if she faltered or somehow magically flipped out of her hammock. In the back of his mind, he knew that he was being way too overprotective, but that was to be expected, right? His attention was distracted from her by Kol’s entrance; his face immediately falling into a frown when he heard the avian’s tone. Standing, Auren followed him outside of their tent. “Yeah? What’s wrong? Did somebody else fall victim to a random near-fatal stabbing?”

To say that he had been surprised by Aya’s action was a massive understatement. On one hand, Ko was proud of her for rising to the challenge. It was like all that pestering he’d done had finally paid off and she was finally willing to stand up for herself. On the other, he could only stare at her retreating form over his shoulder with the most impossibly dumbstruck look imaginable on his face. Where had that come from?! To put it simply, he was aroused and confused and had no idea in his clever little head as to what he should do next. She had thrown him quite off balance and it was a long moment that he stood there wondering what to do. Shaking his head, he finally decided a course of action, turning toward her and walking around the fallen log, standing just behind and to the side of her.

“That’s a dirty trick, you know.” Ko’s voice was low, husky with the slightest hint of danger contained there as he leaned down, placing a light kiss on her shoulder, one hand tangling absently in her silvery white hair. “If you lead a man on that, he’ll get the idea in his head that you want more.”

Kol let out a long sigh as he rested against the nearest object. "No, thankfully not..." He responded with not much hope to his voice. "Ko and Aya are missing, and have been for about a day according to some of the villagers I've spoken to." Kol rubbed his face, trying to ease some of the lines of tension. According to the villagers, for Ko to just vanish is rather normal but never usually with someone. He worked alone, always. Also, the idea of putting Aya in danger for the sake of her tagging along with the avian didn't sit well with him.

"I'm not sure where Narrick and Arina are, but I know they are on the grounds. Though...I've got a good idea as to what it is there are doing..." He mumbled the last part to himself. While out on his daily flights he had heard some muffled screaming from a woman. He, of course, could not let the thought of a distressed women be alone, and flew down to investigate. Instantly he regretted his decision as he had almost flown right down where Narrick and Arina were going at it. Rather loudly, he might add. Kol coughed as he directed his attention back to Auren to see what he thought they should do.

Aya, rather pleased with herself couldn't help but grin as she saw the shocked and confused look on his face. Out of all the time she had spent with him, she had never managed to shock him. She watched him regain his senses and walking behind her.

"A dirty trick well deserved. " She replied, as the senses on the back of her neck tingled as he placed the soft kiss on her shoulder. No matter how confident she felt his voice made her melt. As he leaned in to speak to her again, she couldn't help the sly grin that spread across her face.

"Who said I didn't...?" She responded in a low voice as she turned her head to his direction. She placed a soft kiss on his neck. It was an innocent enough of a gesture as she pulled back and smiled at him sweetly.

Auren considered the avian’s words, tapping his chin thoughtfully as he tried to figure out why they would both be missing for so long. It was outrageously obvious the two had a thing for each other, but even he, the legendary love machine, would check in at least once with somebody if he was spending a full twenty-four hours pleasing a woman. After all, he had to sleep at some point, and couldn’t imagine that Ko would have any greater endurance than he. “Well, at least they’re around… I suppose that pretty boy and his prissy mistress would have to hammer things out eventually.” He mused to himself, looking up at the sky as if he expected the avian duo to come flying overhead at any second. “Well, I suppose we could search around a little bit for Ko and Aya. They might have… found somewhere to spend some quality time alone.” Well, that’s what he would have done if Farah weren’t fatally wounded, and assumed that with things happening so fast, Ko had finally convinced innocent little Aya that it was time to get serious.

“Farah seems to be doing better, so we could go search while she rests.” Auren shrugged, making a helpless gesture. It was the best idea he could come up with. “If we don’t find them, then we’ll probably have to send out some sort of search party.”

Ko quirked his eyebrow, a slow grin spreading over his face at her words. Aya’s face was so close, her lips so tempting that he couldn’t help but close the distance that separated them, pressing a soft kiss to her lips. She was as sweet as her smile, and with the smallest bit of hesitation he pulled away, looking into her eyes to see if he’d overstepped the lines. They had kissed before, it was true, but she hadn’t been as emotionally scarred back then, still completely innocent. When he found that Aya wasn’t completely repulsed by the act of kissing him, he stepped over the log and took a seat next to her, touching her face lightly with one hand and using the other to wrap lightly around her petit waist, drawing her close for another kiss.

This time, it was long and lingering, and Aya’s arms wandered up to settle around his neck and Ko took encouragement from that, pressing his advantage to part her lips with his tongue, delving deeper into the kiss. She pressed her soft weight against him, a soft flush rising to her cheeks in a very Aya-like way that made Ko want to hold her even tighter. The hand pressed to her face drew a steady trail down her neck, brushing lightly over her shoulders and down to her chest, sliding over the soft curve of her breast. Immediately, he felt her stiffen, breath hitching in her throat. Realizing that he’d gone too far, Ko dropped that hand to her waist and broke off the kiss, drawing her close and nuzzling against her neck, his breath warm on the exposed skin there.

“Aya, I love you, you know that, right?” He asked, his voice a whisper against her exposed neck.

"I'm glad to hear Lady Farah is doing better...She is rather lucky to be alive." He spoke, and the look on Auren's face made him stop. It was a rather rare sight to see the look of anything but apathy on the warriors face but seeing his friend in pain wasn't worth it.

Kol frowned as he thought over Auren's words. "But, where to look?" He asked, standing once more. "I've taken daily flights around the general area and have yet to see them." As he paced in the small area he had hoped the two avians were doing the naughty and that he wouldn't end up running into them like Narrick and Arina. The thought was better than them charging into some battle and getting themselves killed. He sighed then. Ko had no idea how to properly treat a lady.

Aya let Ko pull her close as she let her heart find a normal rhythm once more.The soft breeze in the air allowed her rather red face to cool down a bit. She took comfort in just be able lean against his strong frame. "I know..." She mumbled softly. "I love you too...". She hated that just the simplest touches made her react as if he was going to hurt her. "I'm sorry." She frowned as she said it knowing that Ko was going to tell her otherwise. She played with a lose string on the hem of her clothing. At least he wasn't angry with her, she thought.

Aero and Tajy ((In Dream World)) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Aero and Tajy ((In Dream World))   Aero and Tajy ((In Dream World)) Icon_minitimeTue Nov 30, 2010 9:43 pm

Ko and Aya managed to return to the village that next afternoon, sneaking in past the sentries with Ko leading the way. Why? Because it was far more fun that way. They began heading back for the tent that they had been given for the duration of their stay, but before they got there, Ko’s mother waylaid them.

She appeared from behind a tree quite randomly, her feet finding sure ground just as easily as if she weren’t blind. Reaching out, she took Ko’s hand and “looked” at the two, a small frown pulling down the corners of her lips. “It is good that you have settled your debts, and I am glad that you were able to do so. However, a greater struggle lies before you now, one that will require your full attention and all your skill. Please, gather your companions and come to my dwelling in the communal caverns. I have important knowledge that you all must hear.” Then, without another word, she let go of Ko’s hand, turning away and simply walked off into the heart of the village.

“Don’t even bother asking me what that was about.” Ko said suddenly, reaching down and giving Aya’s hand a small squeeze. “Her summons are always cryptic and ominous.”

Aya smiled nervously as Ko's mother approached, and listened to what she had to say. Just as she was about to ask what she had meant, Ko interrupted her thoughts as he grabbed her hand gently. Aya never realized how comforting a gesture it was until now. "If you say so..." She mumbled only loud enough for him to hear. She followed in after him, loosely wrapping her arm around his.

Kol leaned back in a hammock with his head down and his eyes closed. He had not gotten rest all night thanks to the sex maniacs near by. No matter how he tried to drown them out, either Farah's moaning or Auren's grunting had kept him up. Though he had kicked them out of the tent, it didn't help with his rather good hearing. He was about to yell at them as they suddenly got quiet. Thinking they were in their ten-minute cycle of rest, he thanked his lucky stars for peace. It was rather short lived as a young avian guard walked into the room. Kol sighed.

"Sir, there is a request to see you and your party at the communal cavern as soon as possible. I believe they behind the tent itself actually." He bowed and went to make his leave, but Kol thought of an idea.

"Good sir, would you mind telling my companions this urgent news. I have some business to take care of before I make my way out." The only business Kol had was to watch the look on the poor mans face as he walked in on the two getting ready for round 497 of the day.

The avian gave him a suspicious look but nodded in agreement. As the man headed out and around the tent Kol took a moment, pretending to head in the opposite direction. He circled around to the other side of the tent and took to hiding behind a rather large stone. He saw the man rounding the corner, this was Kol's last chance to save him from the mess he was about to get the man into. But, he couldn't let this chance slip by, he had been in a rather grumpy mood all day and this would surely help.

Farah and Auren were about 500 feet from him and even less from the unsuspecting man. As the avian started to look around, muffled whimpering could be heard the avian, thinking someone was hurt, quickly stormed into the area the couple was in. He stopped himself short, almost tripping over the sight that came into view. A human male was tied to a tree, gagged and blind folded with a female demon suckling on his manhood. To say he was shocked was an understatement.

As he got his mind back in somewhat of an order, he spoke almost choking on his words. "I'm...so sorry to intrude....Your avian friend said I could find you here..." He looked away from the couple with a dark red stain on his face.

A grin came to Farah's face. "There are more trees around if you'd like to join..." Her voice held a seductive invitation to it. Farah knew Kol was behind sending the poor man back here, but it would be rude not to offer to share.

"N-no thank you, Ma'am... Your presence is requested in the caverns as soon as possible." He bowed quickly, and turned to leave almost tripping over a log as he did.

Kol could not contain his laughter as he walked away. Tears streamed down his face. He was in a much better mood.

"I suppose I have to let you go now... Such a waste..." Farah whispered in Auren's ear as she took the gag out. She kissed his slightly swollen lips and started to untie him and take the blindfold off.

Auren heaved a heavy sigh into his gag that conveyed all of his disappointment. Once the gag was removed and he could speak, he said, “Why is it that every time we get something good going, somebody has to interrupt us?” He located his clothes with his eyes, waiting for Farah to untie his wrists that bound him to the tree. Once free, he grudgingly went over and put them on. “Fine, let’s get this all-important meeting over with so that we can get back to where we were.”

Aya and Ko were waiting for the rest of them to come, standing outside a particularly large doorway that had unfamiliar runes carved into the wood and the stone that surrounded it. Ko greeted them with a passive face and opened the door, gesturing for the group to head inside. He was quite used to these sorts of things, having been summoned to the seer’s chambers every few days since he was old enough to strike out on his own.

Inside, the air was thick with the smell of incense, the aroma not so heavy that it would cause one to choke, but it did have a quality to it that seemed to make one light-headed and unable to think properly. Ko guided them through the thick stuff, bringing them into a second chamber that was less smoke-filled, lit by the flickering uncertain lights of scented candles. In here, the smell wasn’t nearly so thick and had a more mystical quality to it, one that didn’t necessarily dampen the senses of the mind, but helped to expand upon them. It was here that the seer sat, perched atop an over-stuffed throw pillow, a bracket of the scented candles lit on either side of her, the light that flickered over her unmoving form creating an surreal look to her.

It was perhaps a little unnerving, but Ko simply sat down on one of the free throw pillows directly in front of her, gesturing for the others to follow suit. “Nothing bad is going to happen, guys, I swear. She doesn’t have any magical transforming powers that would allow her to turn into a dragon and eat you or anything.”

Narrick and Arina had arrived last, and settled down together a little off to the side. For some reason, Arina appeared completely unable to make eye contact with anybody except for Narrick, a small blush dusting her cheeks that didn’t go away either. Auren noted this and couldn’t help but grin, leaning in close to Farah and whispering “Looks like he finally got in her pants. She’s terrible at hiding it.” Ko glared at the warrior, apparently having heard him, and Auren merely shrugged as a form of apology.

“Now that you are all here,” Eniryah began, and immediately she had silence, albeit a rather terse and uncomfortable one. “…I can tell you what you need to know. All of you, my son included, have been given a strange fate, and one that is bound with the fate of this very world. Narrick, you have already heard some of this, and have been given an inkling into what I am about to tell you tonight.”

When his name was mentioned, the elf looked stricken, all eyes turned to him immediately. “What do you mean?”

“The soldier that you cornered earlier.” She replied in her calm voice. Immediately, Narrick looked like he remembered and was at the same time concerned that she somehow knew all of this.

“Yes, as he was dying he said that… “God” was against us, that we couldn’t escape the arm of the Guild as it attempted to crush us.”

Eniryah nodded, and to the small babble that began after that confession she simply raised her hand, gesturing for silence. “It is true. The mortal god of this world hates, fears, and despises you. He will stop at nothing to have you all killed, and so you must destroy him before he can do likewise.”

“What do you mean the mortal god?” Auren asked quickly, eyes narrowed suspiciously at the old woman. He had always known that she wasn’t all there, but this seemed far-fetched, even by her standards. “Isn’t the whole point of being a god also being immortal?”

The seer smiled, the look on her face instantly silencing the warrior. “Normally, that would be true, yes. But the god that rules this world was never an immortal. He came from a world that is outside of ours, completely different from the one here. You also come from that mysterious realm, though I suppose that you have forgotten everything about your identity that you held while you were there.”

“That’s impossible.” Ko spoke out immediately. Usually, he didn’t interrupt, being a ‘just go with the flow’ type of guy. However, this really was too much. “In case you have forgotten, you were pregnant and bore a son, being me. I have never been from that other world.”

Eniryah was shaking her head before he had finished, looking sad now. “No, my son, I have never had any children of my own. You were not born of the flesh by normal means. A year ago, you appeared at the edges of our wood, alone, confused, and asking questions that made no sense to any of us here from this world. As time passed and you began to accept this world, you began to forget the one that you had come from. I know not what fey magic it is that settled over you, or us, but even the people here began to believe that you were my son, and so too did you. My power as a seer has kept that same trick from lulling me into believing that same falsehood. You are my son in memory, but you hold no blood that can be traced to myself or any other natives of this world.”

Ko looked stricken by the news, and rightly so. Everything he had believed was true had turned out to be the greatest falsehood known to man. He almost argued with her, but realized that however silly her premonitions might have seemed at the time, they always turned out true. She had never related to him a falsehood, and with these facts in mind, he bowed his head and remained silent.

“You have little time left.” She said, now addressing the whole group at large. “The mortal god knows that you’re here, and the longer you stay in one place, the more opportunity he will have of sending more soldiers or a competent assassin after you to remove you as threats. You cannot stay here, or anywhere. Wherever you go, the Guild will follow you, hunt you down and they will not rest until you are killed. I can only impart upon you knowledge and weapons that will help to see you through this trial. You may stay here a few more days and ready yourself for travel. Before you leave, see me again, and I will have my gifts ready that will help you defeat the mortal god.”

When Aya walked in with Ko the room seemed almost surreal, with all of the smoke, and a zen-like atmosphere it was...odd. But Ko seemed right at home and made his seat, encouraging them to do the same. Aya sat close to Ko as everyone filed in. Narrick and Arina being last. Aya noticed the faint blush on the elf's cheeks and couldn't help a small smile. It was nice not to see her distraught anymore. Aya would have gladly smacked Auren for his comment to Farah but Ko beat her to it with a glare. Farah simply grinned back at Auren and nodded.

A silence came over the group as the seer began to talk and quickly confused and unbelieving looks had come to their faces. They were all from a different land? What on Earth was she talking about? Farah frowned at this news, had she known this once before? No? It couldn't be. Confusion settled over her as she looked to Auren as Ko and his not...mother had their conversation.

Aya listened to the seer with a frown and watched as Ko turned several shades lighter, going more pale by the moment. Slowly, gently, she put a hand on his shoulder in an attempt to comfort him. What little comfort she could offer in this kind of situation. She couldn't understand how it came to it that none of them had remembered but when Aya tried to recall past memories they became fuzzy and unclear.

Kol looked at the couples in the room and waited for the seer to finish. He was the first to leave the room. He felt, out of place from the rest of the group and normally it didn't bother him. But at this moment when they were at the height of confusion and apparently would soon go into battle, he felt that someone was missing from his side. Someone he had loved dearly. In all his time here, love was nothing something he had once thought about so why now? Maybe the news of not actually being from this land had sparked the feelings but he didn't know. Sighing, and running a hand through his blonde locks he walked out of the chambers and made his way to the area they were last resting in. Might as well get ready to go.

Farah thought she took the news rather well, standing and leaving the seer's presence with Auren. "Well....That was different." The demon woman said, moving a bit of hair from her face. She wasn't sure how the warrior would take the news but he wasn't much of the type to get upset by such things. Some beer and a good night of sex should cure anything.

Aya kept a concerned eye on Ko, gently removing her hand from his shoulder. "Ko..." She had no idea if he was alright, and really couldn't blame him if he wasn't. She knew she wouldn't if her mother actually wasn't and found out that she wasn't even from this world in the same day.

((oh my goodness its so short in comparison))

The shoulder on his hand was reassuring, and when he managed to get back out into the light and away from the near intoxicating incense, Ko ran his hands through his crimson hair and closed his eyes, breathing deeply. After a prolonged pause, he finally released a deep sigh and looked down at Aya, taking her hand in his own. "Thanks for your concern, Aya. That was... its..." He went silent again, a pained expression on his face. "I can't say I was expecting that... It's hard to believe, too. I have all my memories of my childhood, like the first time I ever flew, the first time I got to use magic... It's hard to believe that all of that is fabricated. But... my mother has never lied to me. I can't imagine her doing so now on a whim or about something so... serious..." With a sense of weariness, Ko rubbed the bridge of his nose with his face scrunched up slightly like he had smelled something unpleasant. With another sigh, he relaxed, rolling his shoulders and stretching his wings slightly.

"I'll think about this later. I suppose that we have a battle to prepare for eh?" Though his grin wasn't shown with nearly the same intensity as normal, at least he was smiling, trying to cope internally with this huge shock to his life. "But in the mean time, there's something I want to show you. Come on." He held out his hand, looking eager to go do whatever it was that he was planning on doing with Aya.

.-.-.-.

An indelicate snort left Auren and the warrior put a reassuring hand on his sword. "Different? The old lady is missing a few cards from the deck, I'd say." Though, having her say such things about their pasts had caused Auren to think about his past. What did he really remember of it? All the adventures he'd had with Aya and Narrick but everything before that... was little more than an indistinct blur. Like trying to remember a night where he'd gotten exceptionally drunk, except for the had the distinct feeling that before he met Farah, he was something of a teetotaler. "Gah, this is all too much for me. This god killing business... sounds like an adventure though, doesn't it? The big boss of all bosses..." Shaking his head, the warrior slipped his arm around Farah's waist and pulled the demoness closer, kissing her briefly on the neck. "But that's for later."

Narrick watched the two walk off and shook his head. Seems that it would take much more than learning that they were all some sort of aliens to this world to throw Auren off his game. In a way, the elf envied his simplistic lifestyle, which was why he was shaking his head. The man might be uncultured and morally ambiguous, but when confronted with a life altering revelation, he knew how to keep his cool. He and Arina went their own way, talking quietly to one another as they disappeared back to the tent that the group had been allotted for their stay.

Aya couldn’t even imagine what Ko was going through. Even if what his mother, or rather not mother was saying was true at least Aya had never felt like she had a family here. Yes, she had her friends and Ko but not a family like he did. In that sense she counted herself lucky. She watched as Ko tried to relax herself and nodded at the mention of preparing for war. It wasn’t a pleasant thought to think about. For a brief moment she let her mind drift into what could possibly happen after they killed this ‘god’. Aya for the life of her couldn’t remember a single day before she had met Auren and when she tried her temples ached and her stomach rolled.

As Ko held out her hand and invited her to something Aya gave him a weird look. “Show me what?” He looked rather excited about whatever this was and she was thankful the pained expression was gone from his face as she took his hand.

~*~*~*~

Farah grinned at Auren’s talk of adventure, he always knew how to make something so grim sounding interesting. She wasn’t much to think on this business though like Auren, Farah was a simple person. She liked to have a good time and knew how to do it well. As Auren pulled her in closer and planted a small kiss on her neck her grin grew wider. Speaking of a good time… The demon pulled only slightly away from him and roughly met her lips with his. Something told Farah that she may not get any once they left for their adventure might as well do it now as the ‘serious’ couples were working things out.

~*~*~*~

Kol couldn’t help the sigh that escaped his lips. This was a lot to take in, but his memories didn’t go as far back as the others. An entire chunk of his life was missing and he couldn’t account for it. On top of that, he really did feel like the odd man out. Even if the others had troubles they could tell their partners or at least take it out on them in the bed chambers.

“What ales you, good sir?” A voice came from behind; it was one of the avian woman. She looked rather similar to the rest of the people here who had turned Kol’s advances on them down before. Though her eyes held a kind look to them. He smiled gently at her, “I’ve no troubles now that such a beautiful woman is in my midst.”

The woman giggled, walking over to his side and looking over the cliff which he was standing. “You seemed sad, charmer, and I only wish to aid you.” She put a hand on his arm and then sharply recoiled, a look of pure horror on her face. She took several steps back, falling onto her bottom, as her unfocused eyes looked anywhere but his own. “My lady, what happened, what’s wrong?” Kol knelt down beside her concern on his face.

“A death will soon come to you…” The woman said, tears rimming her eyes as she stood and backed further away from Kol. “Please, please stay away from me…” She scampered away as if he were some infectious disease. “Wait!” He shouted after her but to no avail. She unfolded her wings and took to the skies as fast as she could.

“Could this day possibly get ANY better…?” Kol mumbled to himself, sitting on the cliffs edge with a grumpy scowl. The woman’s reaction and words disturbed him greatly…
