Spirit ~{Friends or Foes?}~ Liz

"That might be taken as arrogance. If someone says something to you, then you reply." Simple manners was her viewpoint, unless they attack you in which case you fight back. "The way you talk about it the rest of the world either means nothing or it means everything depending on your mood. I like having people around that I can talk to and enjoy their company. There are some I don't stick around to say goodbye to, yes, but there are also those that I never want to leave. And then there are those special few people you just don't forget whether they're still around or not." The last part of her statement made her smile a bit, thinking of home and sitting by the lake to watch the sunset. "My point is you shouldn't turn the world away just cause you're in a bad mood, don't think for a second that anything's either not worth your time or is beneath you."

"That is easier said than done," he replied, standing up and stretching his wings out, again letting them catch the wind. "And you seem to think I am below you, at least a little bit, miss lecture," he commented, giving her a toothy grin. Strangely enough he was not mad or irritated, but he certainly was not going to change his ways to suit her.

Standing on his hind legs Temero looked around, using his wings as sails and his tail to keep himself balanced. "Nice enough place," he commented, staying that way for a minute before settling down on all fours again and folding his wings back. "Seems relatively untouched at the moment." He of all people knew how quickly that could change.

She laughed a bit and looked up at him with a smile. "Technically you are above me but I don't think that's what you meant. I'm no better than anyone else, and I'll stop the lecturing now." She yawned. "It is indeed a lovely place but give it 10 winters and it'll be city with cobblestone roads. Out in the ice desert only a small amount of life survives, and even then half of it dies of frostbite. I probably wouldn't survive in my own natural habitat now if I moved back there. Now come on Temero, lie back down and just enjoy the twilight."

Temero did sit down, his tail swishing from side to side slowly. "I am sure," he agreed, "Which is the sad part. Humans take over all the wilderness until there is not any left for those who should live there." He shrugged slightly, shaking his head. "Well there is not much that can be done about it." Which was a lie, and he knew it, but he did not feel like discussing ME ideals with this female. He had a feeling that she would not agree with him, and an argument was not what he wanted. Especially since he had somehow managed to keep her from being angry with him thus far. Not that he thought she particularly like him, but she did not hate him either.

She nodded quietly. "Well, I bit the seat out of a butcher's pants cause he threatened my pet. But other than that I kinda tend to avoid humans." She gave a soft sigh and cleaned something off her forearm. "Anywhere that's quiet is absolutely. . ." she paused to yawn, "Perfect. . ." she said resting her chin on the ground. Her ears pricked when she heard something off in the distance. "What could. . .Oh it's probably nothing." Turns out someone was out with their hunting hounds, but they were too far off for her to really know what they were yet. "I can't get that muddy human smell out of my nose." she said before sneezing. "Achoo! 'Scuse me. . ."

Temero chuckled and grinned, amused by the female's response. "Well at least you showed them who was boss," he said, still smiling toothily. He spread his wings again, though he snapped them shut quickly when he heard a noise in the distance. He could not tell what it was, but Temero did not really want any more company than he already had. Oh well, Temero thought, it is not like they are here, and I can always leave if I want to. "I agree," he said, settling down again. "Though perhaps it will not be that way for long."

"I'm hoping for a day someday soon where I can just lounge about where I please and no human can say I can't." She rolled onto her back and looked at the sky tiredly. Course she also wanted her family back but that wasn't going to happen. She'd given up on wishes for the most part and just prepared herself for dealing with the rest of the world as it happened. The air around her became a bit chilly as her body temperature dropped a few degrees. "What kind of climate does your kind prefer? I don't mean to pry but I'm curious."

"See, we are alike in some ways," Temero commented, glancing over in the direction of the sound one more time before disregarding it and settling down again. What climate? He had to think about that for a minute or two. "Well personally I like the deserts, but we are rather adaptable. Of course, I would rather not live in the north unless I really had to." He figured that went for all of his kind but he was not quite sure, never having really run into any of them. "What about you?" he asked, though he figured he knew what she would say.

"You can probably guess what climate I'm used to: ice and lots of it. It good to be able to adapt, very useful. All I can do is give stuff frostbite really, not very useful for most cases." She heard the dogs finally and groaned. "Humans. . .They just can't leave us alone can they?" She got up and looked around just barely able to see the humans. "Think they'll give us any trouble? Or shall we go to a less obvious location?" She just wanted a day away from humans! Was that so much to ask?

"I figured as much but just thought I would ask," he replied, shrugging slightly. The noise finally came clear and Temero growled, the fur on the back of his neck going up. Of course, humans would naturally find him out in the middle of nowhere. They will leave us alone if I have anything to do about it, he thought, but that is probably not a good idea with this one here. "Well, depends on if you want a fight or not," he said honestly. "Because if they start anything I will finish it." He did not speak in an intimidating way, he was simply stating facts.

"I'd rather not fight. . ." she said getting up a few joints popping. She shook some dust off and began walking away from the humans. "Besides most dragons scare dogs. If anything I'm sure we could scare them off without doing much damage, if any. Bluffing works most of the time. Though if you wish I suppose we could fly off somewhere else to chat?" She smiled at him. "Thank you for your promise to fight but I think I will give them a good scare and be done with it."

Temero snorted quietly, studying the humans for a moment before he began to follow Hydra. He did not really feel like attacking them at the moment, though if they started something he would not hesitate to make his displeasure known. For now, however, he would let them go. Animals he did not have a problem with, the dogs would be left alone unless they attacked, at which point he would simply take to the sky. No, it would be their owners who would face the brunt of his ire in that case.

"I do not really care either way," he replied, glancing back momentarily before shrugging slightly and focusing on where he was going. "The dogs are just annoyances, the humans are the real problem." Not that he was worried, far from it in fact.

She hopped along next to him and decided it wasn't worth it to try. "You're right. . ." She felt embarrassed that she had to double time her pace just to keep up with him, almost like she was running. She had no intention of asking him to slow down until he was truly outpacing her, which to her seemed like a very plausible theory. He didn't have any physical problems that she could see, and if he bolted off like a shot she'd have to fly to keep up with him. That was not the best solution in the world and she knew it. She kept on walking/jogging next to him silently, occasionally slipping or tripping over her own feet, but keeping up with him nonetheless.

Temero glanced over at Hydra but did not say anything, seeing the determination in her eyes. Obviously she was too proud to say anything, and that reminded the male of himself. He was not one to give up easily either. Still, he moderated his pace slightly, trying not to make it obvious so that she would not be offended. Clearly we are not too different, he thought, shuffling his wings slightly. Well, good. Maybe we can get along after all. "So, any particular place in mind?" he asked, looking back at her again.

"Not really, any place you're comfortable, which means just a place with no humans." She sat down by one of the few trees in the area and took a deep breath. "I must be severely out of shape, normally walking doesn't take that much out of me." She didn't want to seem like she needed a rest, but that was exactly why she'd stopped there, she needed to rest. "Name a place and we'll go there, doesn't matter to me so long as it's not unbearably warm." She got up again and glanced around. "I suppose you'd better take the lead. I'm a bit slow."

Temero spread his wings and flew up into the tree, looking around curiously. The people seemed to have vanished, and he could only hope they would stay that way. Climbing back down he stopped halfway down the truck, hanging there and looking down at Hydra. "Well I do not really have anywhere in particular to go," he replied with a slight shrug, climbing down the rest of the way. "And I really do not care either, I can handle humans, honestly I can. So we can just wander if you like."

She sighed. "If I'm too slow just tell me and I'll speed up, and here is just fine for me, I just didn't like the humans being so close." She relaxed again finally and her body looked almost lifeless laying motionless on the ground. "I feel sort of useless when I really think about it. I'm miniscule for my breed, and now that my leg is almost totally out of commission I feel totally useless." She felt she had every right to feel bad, she wasn't even HALF her full grown size and she was an adult by all counts! She decided against saying anything else, her self-esteem had her sad enough she didn't feel like speaking.

Temero circled the tree while he spoke, simply to give himself something to do. It was not that he was bored, but that he was restless. "You are fine, I have nowhere to be and no time limit to get there," he replied. "No dragon is useless unless they let themselves be. Think about it, you could be laying around somewhere doing nothing or waiting to die, but you are not. That in and of itself makes you not useless."

The wolf dragon came to a halt not too far away from Hydra, wondering where his sudden spurt of caring had come from. Or rather, his apparent caring. He did not exactly consider her a friend, but neither was she a stranger. An acquaintance, he decided with a short nod, that is what she is. It was unusual for him to stick around for so long, never mind to carry on such a lengthy conversation.

Hydra wondered why Temero had said those things to her, when two minutes ago he'd have probably said something totally different. "You're a surprise at every turn my friend." she said shaking her head slightly. "But I'm very glad to have your company." She cleaned a spot of dust from one of her wings and glanced at him. "You're a bit antsy this afternoon." she noted. His quietness didn't very much phase her, it just started to get a little too quiet and she could hear everything from her own heart beating to things 100 feet off it seemed. "It's too quiet." she said softly as she looked around.

Temero nodded shortly, shuffling his wings slightly. "Well I am glad that I entertain you," he replied, bearing his teeth in a grin. It was a rare thing for him, and he would have wanted her to be honored had she known. Not that it was a piece of information he was going to tell her on his own. It was simply something one picked up from being around him for an extended period of time. Which he was not planning for her, however well they might actually be getting along.

"I like to keep things interesting," he replied, looking around in an attempt to verify her last statement. "Probably the fault of those humans and their noisy mutts," he suggested, shaking his fur out once he had spoken.

She laughed slightly and froze a bug on the ground with a small snort. "I can tell you're not always a very happy dragon. Some humans equate me to a canine, and I suppose I'd agree. Am I anything like a dog?" She knew she was dog-like around her "special someone" but that was a bit different than just being like a dog in general. It wasn't like she was worried he wouldn't like her, it seemed he was okay with her despite her faults and quirks. She felt comfortable in her own skin for once out of many days she'd had lately. She felt like a disappointment to her breed though, whatever the case.

Temero studied her and shrugged slightly. He was not really sure what made one be classified as a canine, though he knew that because of his appearance he was classified as one. So he could not really say anything about Hydra. "I have no idea," he told her. "Perhaps sometimes, but I do not know you that well." Catching her first statement he chuckled dryly and nodded. "I suppose you could say that." He was happy sometimes, but not all that often really. In fact it was a highly rare thing to say the least.

"I suppose happiness is a tough thing to come by these days. Humans don't make that any easier I don't think." She had no trouble with the ones who feared dragons enough to leave them be, but the ones who constantly killed them just to be rid of them made her furious. She had to stop and think of what might've become of her family after they were killed. She hadn't a clue as to why they were killed, but she could only hope it was because they were the only things around for miles and miles that were edible. She remembered at one point she was reduced to eating tree bark to survive before she finally left the ice plains. She sank into her thoughts and her eyes slowly closed with a sigh.

Temero chuckled quietly, thinking that she had no idea. Of course, he did tend to read things in the worst possible way when humans were concerned but still... they did tend to get in the way. "You seem to have a reason to hate them too," he mused, unless he was simply reading her completely wrong. Which was entirely possible, he was not the best with body language sometimes. Still... he did not think he was too far off the mark.

Noticing her change on posture he turned away slightly to give her space, while also keeping watch for any humans or animals that might be attempting to sneak up on them. Neither of them were big dragons, so he did not want to take the risk of letting anything catch them unawares.

"Yes I'll admit I do. Am I too cold?" She noticed he had moved away a bit and she grew concerned. There wasn't anything she could really do if he were too cold though, her body was naturally made like that. She grew less concerned and lay back down watching a cricket hop along. "Glad I'm not the smallest creature on earth, that'd be terrible." With a light exhale the bug went hopping away in the usual manner. She glanced over at Temero and blinked. "What sort of things do you like? I know colors don't matter much but is there one specific kind of animal you like hunting?"
