Marrgoran
AGE: 20
SPECIES: Human
APPEARANCE: About 5’8, medium/normal build. Fairly dark/deeply tanned, warm-toned skin. Straight, thick black hair; about shoulder-length, usually worn partially braided back from his face. Open, broad facial features. Very dark brown eyes. Usually dresses in bright, warm colours (reds, oranges etc). Style of clothing varies very much depending on what he’s doing and where: at the temple, he might wear decorated robes, either with or without a bare chest. In the rainforest, he’d be more likely to wear loose trousers with a bare chest, and out on the mountains, the same style of trousers with a tunic on his torso.
FAMILY: His mother, aunt (and her partner), young cousin, older sister and three younger siblings live together in his family home in the Tahora Valley; he has an uncle also living in the same village, and another uncle and his older brother live in nearby villages.
ABOUT: Marrgoran is curious by nature, which has ultimately led him to becoming a priest at the dragon temple just outside the Tahora Valley. Growing up, he met plenty of dragons out in the rainforest, where his family have a primarily foraging and subsistence farming lifestyle, as well as meeting dragons visiting his village and when his family visited the temple. Whenever possible, he befriended these dragons, aided by his village’s normally benevolent dragon visitors and the good relations in the area; this led him to have a strong interest in and healthy respect for dragons, but without the idolatry or fear which characterises some worshippers. This is desirable in a priest, given the need to interact with any and all dragons that present themselves at your temple. Marrgoran was always drawn to the culture and learning on display at the temple (relative to anywhere else in the area) and this drew him to the priesthood as a teenager; his aptitude and his family and village’s comfortable position, such that they could afford to “lose” him, meant he was easily accepted. He now primarily lives at the temple, although he often visits home and sometimes other surrounding villages.
Marrgoran has done well at the temple, partly due to his respect for authority and partly due to his genuine care and interest in others, whether humans or dragons. He doesn’t necessarily empathise as quickly and easily as some people, but over time he’s heard many people’s and dragons’ viewpoints and stories, and has learned to be a good listener and ask the right questions. He can come across a little formal and sometimes people take a while to warm up to him, but most find him earnest and sincere on first meeting if nothing else. | |
