Gerris had joined the Maledictus Eice because he'd had nothing better to do. Seriously. A band of marauding dragons had appealed to his most basic desire of killing. However, it turned out to be some kind of justice movement and he wasn't in for that. Being part of the Maledictus Eice was like being part of a brainwash, no rationality, hormonal youth group and it not only made him feel old, it made him feel alienated. He did not want the death of all non-dragons because that was detrimental to easy living, and Gerris was not a dragon eager to return 'to the wild'. He counted himself as an enlightened individual, and enlightened individuals bathed, groomed, and did not sleep on dirt floors.

Lying at the very edge of a meadow where a shepherd usually grazed his flock, Gerris was polishing off the last bit of lamb he'd stolen. He'd been very sneaky about it, making sure not to be seen and to quiet the lamb as quickly as possible. It had given him a rush to steal it right from underneath the shepherd's nose. How he'd missed his time in Kaionar, and he wondered if he hadn't ended Lyvas too soon. Granted, he'd been taught all the man could teach him, and he served as transport more than a weapon the larger he got, but the marks, the goals, it was all very rewarding as opposed to this 'movement'.

He used the lamb's wool to wipe his maw and lifted his head at the sign of disturbance in the brush. "Come on out, I can hear you." Whether or not he dispatched of whoever was just beyond the treeline was another story.

Illeana was tired and frustrated. Tired because she had been pushing herself too far for too long, frustrated because pushing herself like that had rewarded nothing. Nothing. She was getting nowhere with her goals, apart from covering a helluva lot of distance; possibly not even the right direction. The whole thing made her want to bang her head against the ground. Made her want to rip into the first human she came across and demand to know where her Vorran was, what they had done with him.
That had never rewarded any results in the past, however.

Now she crept around the edge of some village, she didn’t care to know the name, watching the few who trundled like ants along the paths to and fro. It was a dull sort of place, but she watched it all the same; humans were noxious, especially quiet, they harboured secrets. The smell of blood had brought her away from her first post to a little further out in the meadows surrounding, curious whether it was a broken human she could use to tease a little information out of, but it was merely a dragon attacking a meal. Perhaps it was some pet, given leave to roam around the town for a few hours and find itself a meal before returning. Perhaps it was wild. Either way, Illeana wondered if she could use it to give her some help- if they were astute enough. As an Ebony Hunter, she could be deadly silent until she wished to make noise, but today she made a little, testing their senses…
I should think you could hear me, she said, slinking a few more paces out from her hiding spot so she revealed her face, front legs. It wasn’t as if I was being subtle. Wild or pet?

"Neither," Gerris replied, indignant. He scooped out some earth with his claws and pushed the remains of his meal into the hole, covering it up and patting the soil flat. "I assume you're wild, you look absolutely haggard." He held his wings tight against his body, a habit of his taught to him by Lyvas. It ensured that he'd be less likely to damage his wings and it made his outline sleeker and Gerris was quite concerned about his appearance. A dragon wishing to purport himself as superior had to look the part, no matter what anyone said. Besides, good grooming led to good health and Gerris was loathe to come down with something that could be physically disgusting, like scale rot or some kind of gum, bone disease that just broke a dragon from the inside out.

He sat in the meadow, a couple yards in front of her, his tail coiled around him tightly. It was obvious, from his coloration and looks that he was a Fume dragon, and so well kept it was obvious he had been either raised in a human settlement or alongside humans.

Wild dragons had a tendency to look a little rougher.

This was not his first time coming across an Ebony Hunter. Their skills were exceptional and Gerris had to admit that he'd never met a more fitting killer, and did not want to be on the wrong side of one. Thankfully, this one had decided to let him know she was there. He regretted his opening statement of her looks, wishing, instead, he'd have said something a bit more polite. He didn't know what she might want, after all, she obviously stopped to see about him... else she would have gone on her way, ignoring him and leaving him none the wiser about her presence.

This dragon’s quick judgement did not amuse Illeana, but she could not deny it; she probably didn’t look her best. Appearance was not her greatest concern- had been important once, but what did it matter now, when she had nobody to impress? She didn’t even wish to impress those that she might otherwise have been inclined towards… there was little point to it.

And so I assume you’re a pet, she said, blinking coldly at the fume. What other would make such a decision?
She rose out of the grass and padded around the other a few steps, staring into him with her greeny-yellow eyes. He certainly seemed very assured of himself, but perhaps that came of being a pet. She could assume they had some extra something wild dragons didn’t have, considering they were cosseted and loved all the time, that gave them such a demeanour. Perhaps it was being told they were beautiful and wonderful all the time; she had seen how humans fawned over their animals like they were lovers.

She sunk down to her haunches again after her cursory lap around, a dark black stain against the green of the grass. If you are a pet, or were a pet, I might think as you say you are neither wild nor one, then why are you lingering here with food? Her words were a little scrambled, it would be a wonder if the Fume could make out what she was saying. But it made sense to her, so what was the worth in explaining? He could work it out, if he thought of himself so well.

Gerris always looked like he was smirking, due to his markings, but at this point in time he really was smirking at her, the folds behind his jaw standing out against his seemingly smooth skin. "Humans do this thing where they raise domesticated animals for food and clothing. I like to take advantage of their forethought and snag a meal and a napkin." He was not bothered by her attitude. The fact that she couldn't coordinate her sentences let Gerris know he wasn't speaking to an intellectual equal. "Just because I was raised in a human environment does not make me a pet. I was more like... a weapon. I was stolen from my nest as an egg, you see, because I was a fume, and my egg was stolen from the thief by a thief and I've been raised as a killer ever since." He feigned sadness. "Poor me." He rolled his eyes and stood on his hind legs, bunching them underneath him, preparing to fly off. Whatever her concerns were, they were not his problem, especially if she couldn't articulate herself in a manner that wasn't half crazed half belligerent and all trouble. It wasn't that Gerris wasn't fond of a challenge, it was that he'd had his fill of crazy females, thank you, and he didn't want to add another onto the list. Besides... he didn't know where she'd been. He tilted his head as he stared at her. Though, with a little grooming, he thought, she'd clean up nicely, and perhaps her disjointed speech was from fatigue. He rested back on his fore legs and tightened his wings against his body once more. "Why are you bothering to address me, exactly? You could have easily avoided me."

Quite the story. Illeana thought that it would have been quite intriguing, if the fume had deigned to speak further on the topic, but as it was, it was cut sharp and short. A good thing, as she had no time to spare on idle stories and tales. But, it had been useful. A weapon, a killer? Perhaps she could tempt him with the thought of another easy meal, if he aided her… Illeana herself was no stranger to killing, but that did not mean she enjoyed it. This one on the other hand, perhaps he could be persuaded into something.

She started a little at his wing-widening, tensing to the ground and bearing her teeth, but it only lasted a moment. She was much too jumpy for this- what she really needed was a good sleep- but that wouldn’t bring her any closer to her goals now, would it? When Gerris relaxed again she did not so much, feeling deep inside her chest a dislike for the whole thing. Her paws encouraged her to pace, a few steps one way before turning the other.
I could have done so. And you would have known of me like all others. To say, not at all. However, you sit yourself here with a carcass and an intent, can you be of use? So, a weapon. Do you extend to a weapon for others; I have need of information. There may be human carcasses to feast upon in time.

"I try not to eat human, their fat to muscle to bone ratio is off and they normally taste like a cross between a chicken and a pig." But that was besides the point and he knew he was being contrary for the sake of it. "Let's be honest. You look like you're going to keel over and die if you stay awake another minute. I am not going to work with someone who is a liability and does not know her own limits. Patience and planning is inherent to any successful endeavor and frankly, my dear, you seem to have neither. Whatever or whomever you are looking for is not benefiting from your lack of self preservation. What will you do when you find it or them? Collapse atop them?" His jaws wrinkled more at the corners as he effected a smile that showed his needle-like teeth. "I know I will be of use, but I doubt your usefulness as you are. However if you can manage to take care of yourself, I just might help you. I don't ever ally with those that don't have a shot in hell at what they're trying to do."
