As a little weekend treat, we thought we'd create another one day board to have some fun rping going. No wordcount limits, no rules other than to keep it clean and courteous.

WELCOME TO THE NORTHERN ACADEMY!

Do you possess extraordinary magical talent? A wish to be surrounded by academics? A need to bury yourself under a thousand tomes?
No?
Well, perhaps you might like to cultivate such an interest? Good! Welcome to the Northern Academy, where the great walk the hallways and history imbues the walls. Today, we would like to open our doors to you, yes you, lucky public, in the continuing search for those likeminded within the community.
Or perhaps those who like to see flashy magic, we’re not too fussed.
Step inside, take a tour around our hallowed halls with one of our learned scholars, check out our libraries and magic rooms, where we have helpers and demonstrators on hand to enhance your day.
But please, beware the scroll dragons, they bite!

Ah, a blisteringly hot day was quite the thing to attract newcomers to the Northern Academy. Foen pulled down the brim of his hat against the sun to protect against lobsterfication, then stepped up onto a chair in the great hallway of the place, waving his arms frantically to try and get the attention of those all around.
“Hello! General folk who-are-interested! Welcome to the Northern Academy!” He realised he was speaking in exclamations, furrowed his brow briefly, then continued, “Please, if you would like to follow me, I will show you some of our greatest sights!” He jumped down from his chair awkwardly, not caring much when it went skidding off into some nearby bystander. Streamers poured from the ceiling in a torrent of rainbow colours, drenching everyone in paper. They were a little early (by little meaning, they were supposed to go off that afternoon, not at that particular moment), but they looked awesome anyway.
Oh yes, this was going to be a great day for any new Academy recruits. What could you want more to the start of a day than to be covered in colour straight off?!

Oh, oh! Open day at the Academy? Wow! That sounded like paradise in Zeke’s ears and like a fantastic opportunity to finally be able to snoop around that place a little bit. Curious as ever, he had wanted to visit the academy for ages already but had never quite managed to get to that part of Dragon’s Cove, but as it were, now that he actually was close, he didn’t even have to beg his way in. No, they had an open day! If there was something like opportunity, this was it!

Upon entering, he eagerly listened to every word Foen said and instantly followed the man as he began showing groups of people through this fantastic place. He was so excited, he could barely stand still, and kept bumping into people around him, flashing smiles left and right as he couldn't contain his joy any longer. This was so cool!!

Somehow this seemed like a better idea half an hour ago when she had a hood covering her ears and fewer people around her, but ah well, an adventure was an adventure! Seeing someone rain down streamers from the ceiling made her pause and seriously think about her decision to go see the school, but she tried to think of it as being fun and went along with whatever was happening. Sure enough she didn't recognize anyone around, but she noticed a scroll dragon kept bumping into her leg and she paused. "Well hello there! Excited to see the Academy?"

Farios had awaited this day for a long time, it wasn't that he was particularly interested in the material at hand, but he did quite enjoy the company. Other dragons were just so /feral/, their rock collections did not shine like his, their feathers were not so pristine and cleanly folded as his, and they certainly could not hold a conversation.
Having escorted a lady-friend he found on the way in, a lovely night dragon off to the "little magic show" he had parted and was off to his division.
Particularly, where streamers fell from ceiling, twisting beautifully down. A good touch, but perhaps a little too costly for what they were, he thought.

Putting on his most likeable speaking voice, practiced before and his vocaluarity engagingly stimulationed, Farios followed the mage of some sort with his interest as keen as ever, ready to pipe up with a hip-hip and a hoorah when the social conventions deemed necessary. But of course, he followed only to see how the academy lair was shaping up; he reckoned it did rival his own cave in some ways.

So many different beings had found their way here and were actually studying and teaching at the academy, Zeke didn’t know where to start looking first.
There was just too much to see!
His attention was flitting across the place from one to the other, listening to this conversation and that, noticing a scroll dragon bump into a lady, then there was a dragon – an antler dragon! Wow, he hadn’t seen one in ages, despite the fact that especially the female ones were almost like a pest upon the island – or so he had heard.
“Hello, hello!” he called out in excitement to see so many different people. In his excitement he almost reached out to touch those overly brilliantly gleaming feathers Farios was sporting but thought better of it just barely before he touched them. He could not forget his manners, despite his excitement.
“Oh, I’m so excited to be here!”

There was quite the crowd now in the main hall, and Foen could not help but beam at them all as he pushed open the big doors into one of the wider corridors, pressing himself against it as the most eager of the crowd swarmed through. He tugged a few pieces of paper off those who streamed past and threw them back into the crowd- all except the pink ones. Those he stuffed in his pockets for later, to decorate his room. Pink was a good colour, no matter what people said against it.
He tied a couple round his hat too, so it looked like he had pink cobwebs hanging off the back, or some sort of absurd tail from his head.
"Alright, alright, if some of you want to follow me..." He waved his arms up in the air again, hoping he actually was being listened to, "We'll be off to the potion chambers, they're this way!"

It was not long before a little ruffian had found his way to him; Farios was kindly though.
"Oh why hello to you too, how strange that....you...might be here." He said through a dragonly, toothy smile, taking a pace away from him. "I see you might be joining me for this little talk in the potions chamber, indeed?" He asked, all while trotting along in the most collected fashion, such that the lady dragons simply had to swoon at such gentlemanly swagger. "I do like his hat...though I think pink is very much a winter colour, whatever the peasants would say...oh, forgive me. I mean no rudeness, sir. All sorts are welcome here."
For all his words, Farios was pleased to have a scamp alongside him, if only so as not to appear alone.

Potions huh? She followed the seemingly mad magician to the potion chambers and gazed at the instruments in wonder. "It's amazing what they give amateurs to play about with. Don't suppose we're allowed to touch any of this are we?" She'd love to get her hands on a book and a few of these utensils, she could have some REAL fun! Ah well, time to try her hand at turning someone into a flamingo! Thankfully the result was similar to what she'd intended, but the unfortunate soul turned out bright purple, and squawked in annoyance. The annoyed tone was lost on her and she double over laughing. "If that's not funny I don't know what is!" The bird promptly fled the room in a flurry of feathers, causing a ruckus the entire way down the hall.

Zeke burst out laughing when someone was suddenly turned into a bright purple something that couldn’t even speak anymore but only make odd bird-like noises. It was fun! Forgetting himself, he slapped the dragon next to him on the shoulder, forgetting all about courtesy and keeping his distance. “This is just brilliant!” Moving away from the dragon as if aware that Farios wasn’t too keen on being touched by a silly young man such as himself, Zeke bumped into a nearby table and promptly sent a few flacons crashing to the floor in colourful poofs and tiny explosive noises. “Oh, oops. So sorry! I didn’t mean to... I mean.. Oh dear!”

“Did someone lose a flamingo?” Del’ure asked as he walked into the potions chamber, dragging the poor individual back in with him. “I found this running through the halls.” The poor bird, human.. well.. mix... was putting all its strength into fighting the man’s hold on its collar but to no avail. Turned out that a flamingo couldn’t really do much against a human. Unless... As soon as the thought had worked its way through the now rather small bird brain, the animal began pecking at any piece of Del’ure’s flesh it could reach.

"Please try to keep your hands to yourselves, in every meaning of the words!" Foen ushered everyone into the potion rooms with a fussy sort of look on his face. He nodded to the antler dragon as it passed, looking him up and down in assessment.
"Pink is a colour for every season." He was fabulous!

He flicked his paper strands over one shoulder as he shoved his way back to the front, but by then damage had already been done, and someone had turned someone else into a flamingo. How... how did they even... what?! He put his hands to his hat in horror as the bird darted past and back out the door, then the shatter of glass sounded nearby.
"Please be careful! It's my job to break things in here being clumsy, not yours!" He hurried towards the culprit, shooing him away before fluttering around all the broken things on the floor. "Oh, they're not that important. They belong to Ahreah, not me." He stood up and turned around, holding up one finger to the man who had procured back the flamingo (now violent. And turning violet). "That'd be mine!"

Farios's strut was abruptly ended by the hearty hand of this ruffian fellow. The blundering fool was soon making a mess, and a purple flamingy was released; yet another shifty looking person had appeared.
Oh dear Guardians no! This was too much, so much chaos, and too little to offset it, Farios had expected far better things.

"No, no, this will not do....You are...you are here on an open day, so you are here to make something of yourselves...become respectable folk! Look, take heed, take note of this little Sir-man wizardy pinky hat fellow." Farios said, most eloquently, as he then brought himself to the front with a spring and a click of the heels, practiced and polished with the finest finesse.

"I, am an antler dragon. I do magic of most sorts, Wizard Sir, are you needing a good assistant? Yes, I would be honoured to help you educate the common folksies. Come, come, gather round."
Farios nodded to the wizard.

Oh this was too good! Total panic over a simple bird transformation! "Haven't had this much fun since I made carnations sprout from a politician's ears in Racksom!" She did feel bad for the panicking bird, but she didn't really have much idea how long this would last or if the person would stay a bird for the rest of their days. She moved away from the flustered man with pink streamers in his hat and looked at the rest of the room. Next she looked to the man who'd knocked the table over and smirked, perhaps he could be an accomplice? "I think this place needs to be spiced up a bit, you got any idea how crazy it would get if you let a flock of ducks loose? Heck let's just randomly make stuff happen and laugh when it goes wrong!" Her ears were twitching with anticipation, and she hoped that he'd agree to help.

Chaos everywhere!
And a bristling antler dragon on top of it all. It was almost too good to be true.
Zeke did feel a little bad about having caused part of that chaos by having a few potions crawling around on the floor now, without a clue as to what they were up to. Ideas started forming in his head and he began to giggle uncontrollably when he imagined one of those potions making Farios grow bells on his antlers, or have butterflies erupting out of Foen’s hat on an endless loop, or maybe Rose’s hair turning into flowers. So many possibilities, and they all made him double over with laughter.

Del’ure simply raised an eyebrow at Foen. “Really. You should know better than to leave your wild experiments roaming the halls like that. Especially on a day like today. We need to make a good impression. Otherwise nobody will join the Academy anymore, especially not after the fiasco with the assistant turned elephant for two months. No, no, we need to remain serious and focused!”
All the while, the flamingo had continued poking at him like a mad person until Del’ure was now fed up with it and held the bird aloft by its collar, shaking an angry finger at it, trying to avoid the snapping beak. “Would you stop this silliness already? You are a flamingo! You should have more decency then this. Where is your pride in being such a gloriously pur... violet - ?! – bird?”

Subject: A Vayu Appears- Sort of Fri Jul 12, 2013 9:08 pm

Vayu woke up in the main hall. He was covered in rainbow confetti and was very confused. He had thought this tour of the academy wasn't going to happen until later that day, so he had found a comfortable looking bench and fallen asleep on it, letting the din of the crowd fade into the background. He stood up, brushed the streamers off of himself and looked around. Quickly he realized the reason he woke up. It was because of the suspiciously chaotic noises coming from the right corridor. The few people left in the room were standing around looking at it, whispering questions and theories to each other, no one wanting to approach for fear of whatever was going on in that room.

Deciding against his better judgement to go and see what was going on, and much to the interest of the other people in the room, Vayu ventured into the corridor. At first he could hear his footsteps echoing in the hallway, but as he approached the door decorated with paintings of potions the noises of panic grew louder. A cold sweat formed on his brow as he thought he'd heard... a bird squawking? He opened the heavy door just a crack and peeked his face in... and immediately regretted being here.

Foen was quite glad for the help of the antler dragon as he jumped to the front to accompany him, although there was one small matter to address him on. Abandoning the glass to the floor with not one care for the perilousness of it so close to so many feet, he straightened up and folded his hands over his front.
"Not a wizard, a sorcerer Sir. Please try to get it right. There is quite the difference between the two, and I do not associate with wizarding folk." He huffed snootily, then went straight back to flapping over the flamingo again, doing quite a good impression himself. "Look, it wasn't my fault, he's not even supposed to be a flamingo in the first place! I was trying to make a good impression. But, you try better." He sniffed, then narrowed his eyes at the bird when it looked at him. "What? It wasn't, I wasn't to know you were going to come to misfortune in here. Enjoy the colour of your feathers, that's enough to brighten up any day."
It was quite handsome.

Oros was late to the academy- too busy avoiding all the flying spells jetting from the building on the way there, he had found himself in the empty main hall long after everyone else had left. Thankfully there was someone else to follow though, and he fluttered gracefully down the hallway after the young man who seemed to know where he was going. It all looked very messy, not at all what he had thought an academy of magic would look like.
But who was he to judge, he still couldn't get blue paint out of his tail from his last painting session, and that had been almost a week before!
He hovered gently above the man's head as he peeked into what sounded like a very busy room, barely able to see through the crack in the door. It looked quite shockingly busy.
"My!" he exclaimed, blinking furiously, "This isn't what I would have expected at all!"

Farios snorted to be repimanded by the wiz-sorcerer. There was nothing of a difference, surely? Oh well, what did it matter?
"If you will not accept my help then I shall accept this fact..." He said, politely as ever, as he trotted back to begin, reluctantly, shuffling up pieces of broken potionry containers with the tip of his tail.

"Come now sorcerer, tell us all something of the academy. Why, I remember, when I was just a wee-little hatchling, I wanted to be one of the academy sort...ah yes..."
But then he realised, that gems were shinier, rocks could be polished smooth, nothing satisfied him like a cool little cave and a collection of wonders that the human folk marvelled at and his neighbour dragons were /so/ envious of.
"More than a flamingy, show us...something." Farios sat expectantly, preening himself with a scathing look to the others acting up around him, before straightening his snout to the air.

While everyone was preoccupied with the angry bird, she glanced at the incensed Farios then at Foen and Del'ure before choosing her target: Farios. 'I think it's high time you brightened up there sunny boy. Try this one on for size.' she thought with an evil smirk as she threw was looked like a packet of golden pixie dust at him. It'd probably make him sneeze and look like an idiot, but she didn't care. "Have a little fun now and then!" She still didn't know what to do about the bird, so she left that whole fiasco alone.

Meanwhile a silent Sinyaya was watching events from her safe spot on the ceiling, and with great amusement. "What silly ideas these creatures have." she mused to herself. "Ooh was that glitter someone just threw?" She trotted across the beams and then down a vacant wall to make sure things didn't get too far out of hand. "Care to explain just 'what' is going on around here? Not that I mind good humor but do you honestly let this happen on a daily basis?" she inquired of Farios.

Subject: A Surprised and Dejected Vayu Fri Jul 12, 2013 10:05 pm

Vayu jumped in surprise when he heard a voice coming from overhead, the door closing in the process. His eyes widened as he stared at the wolf dragon. "Ah, sorry, you startled me, I didn't think anyone else was in this hallway," he apologized. His brain was still processing what he saw. A purple flamingo, a dragon on the ceiling, a gold glittery substance, a lot of yelling... Vayu had no idea what to make of it. This was supposed to be a lot more orderly, or at least that's what he had expected. "This isn't what I expected either..." he sighed.

Vayu slid down the wall and sat on the floor for a minute. He wondered to himself whether he should just turn around and leave now or not. It seemed the only other options were waiting, leaving, or going inside that crazy room. He stood up and peeked inside again, opening the door just a bit wider so the dragon could see as well, but hopefully not wide enough for anyone inside to notice.

Even more newcomers! Zeke beamed at the newest joiners in the potion chambers which were starting to be somewhat crowded, but no matter. The more the merrier! Right?
When Farios began sweeping up the broken pieces of glass in what could only be described an elegant sulk, Zeke turned his attention to the wolf dragon arrival as well as Vayu, wondering why those two were so incredibly shocked at the scene displayed before them.

Wasn’t it beautiful? Colourful, magical clouds, many people of all variations, lots of laughter. There was joy in the air! How could they not like it here?

Since he had come to the Academy to learn something however, he did perk up his ears when Farios enquired after some more information from Foen. Was this going to be the moment he explained how an assistant had been turned into an elephant? Though probably not. Zeke would have to ask Del’ure about that later on; after all, they wanted to keep this all quiet and orderly looking.
So not going to happen!

When the human reappeared around the door frame, Zeke instantly grabbed the opportunity to pull the man into the room. “Don’t be afraid! Have a look around! It may not be quite organised, but this is rather fantastic, don’t you think? Just look at all that magical potential, and the possibilities for mischief!”

Del’ure cocked an eyebrow at the night dragon’s question. “What is going on here? Isn’t it obvious?” he wildly gestured at the room. “Chaos! Absolute chaos!” Pointing out a few specific examples, not in the least that damn flamingo which was now shamefully hanging its head at Foen’s words, he continued: “You’d think that having your body turned into something else and wonderful that people would be grateful, but nooo! Instead they have to go around pecking other people’s limbs and then making a mess. Look at all those feathers you’re already losing all over the place! Shameful, I say. Shameful!”

"No no, I did not mean that against you dragon! Or at least... there are so many here, it might be of... some little use to have your assistance." Foen had to swallow his pride for a moment as the antler flumped off to clear the mess made, and think of pretty words to call him back. He did not look as though he would be easily pleased, not with being suddenly given a menial job like he had.
"Well... uhm... Something exciting. Oh, I know!" He grinned, eyes lighting up excitedly, waving his arms for the attention he would never bring back to himself now. "Ahem, if you could all behave for a moment, yes, we're trying to avoid chaos here- a... magic... trick for you!" He felt behind him for anything that might aid him in his tricks and splendour, hand closing around some unknown paper packet of dust. Well, it would do. Throwing it theatrically into the air, he whipped his hat off in one smooth motion, revealing... his head. Nothing more.
At least the magical dust looked pretty, coming down in sparkly silver before crackling loudly once it hit the floor.

"My mistake." Oros smiled wanly at the man before trying to peek inside again. Then the door opened further and someone inside pulled his new acquaintance inside, leaving Oros shocked but thankfully person-tainted free. For now."Hey! Bring back my new friend!" Inside was quite the sight, and his eyes grew round as melons (but not as large, that would have been terrifying). "Wow."

There was not a single day that Apollo took a stroll in the Academy and was not offended by some tour or another. In fact, the faculty did their best to guide him around such things, to keep him from losing his temper and scaring off potential candidates. However, when the flamingo had scrambled down the hall, only to be plucked up by a too-handsome man, Apollo's scowl deepened and no manner of excuse could deter him from following the aberrant happenstance to its source.

As he followed, he managed to find the mess of streamers in one of the reception halls and shoved aside a bundle with his cane, casting an evil look to the attendants following him.

The fact that he said nothing meant bad things. His lips were a hard line and his eyes were cold.

Though the man and the bird had outpaced him, their path did not deviate, and he followed the odd feathers to the potions room.

His knuckles went white around the head of his cane and the stiff way he held himself were just indicators that he was beyond furious. Eye widened, lips peeled back into an unvoiced snarl, he ground his teeth and let out a breath through his nose.

"I do not remember the Academy being a source for knavery and fools." Foen received a withering glare. "Additionally, our materials cost money, if that cannot be appreciated, those that have caused damage may leave. Immediately." As he spoke, some of his attendants went about cleaning up the mess that was once an orderly potions room.

"As for the rest of you, this Academy is not about learning magic and showing it off, it is about learning. If you want to be an entertainer, you can go on down to the Southern Academy. We have no want for half-brained lackwits that cannot obey a simple "do not touch" rule."

He gestured stiffly at the flamingo. "And exactly who did that." He gestured at a potion, not needing to give the command to change the poor man back.

It was easy to tell that the avian, dressed in layers of expensive robes, a circlet about his brow, was an important man. However, some might not know that he was the important man, the Dean, in fact, of the Northern Academy.

Rhys had very firmly said ‘no’ to joining the academy in the past, but the open day was too interesting to miss all the same. He had made himself look respectable, in a fuchsia eye path ad matching scarf, and arrived at the academy to see what all the fuss was about. He was late, which was unlike him, but it looked like the afternoon of festivities was still underway at least.

As he came through the entrance hall getting streamers all over himself as he did so) he saw that there was rather a commotion going on. There was an unusually purple looking flamingo running around causing havoc, and he could see the Dean. He skirted around the commotion, keeping out of everybody’s way, and tried to dart down one of the corridors to see something learning-related, since that was what the day was all about. He didn’t want Apollo to see him and realise he had given in to his curiosity – it wasn’t professional! He ended up heading for the man with the crackly-powder all around him, wondering how he’d managed that trick.

Eliza had been reading quietly in the Academy’s well stocked library for a time, but finally talked herself into having a serious look around. She had once entertained hopes of attending the academy – even maybe teaching one day – but she was of too uneven a temperament to handle it. Besides, she considered herself an expert in the field of magical theory and exotic creatures already. It would be interesting to see how things were done around here all the same, though.

There was rather too much commotion going on near the entrance hall, so she kept nearer the other end of that corridor, watching from afar to begin with. She wasn't unfriendly by nature, she was just cautious. In more environments her particular nature was unknown to all, but here someone might quickly see her for what she was. If she put a foot out of line, there could be issues, unlike in most other places, so she was on her very best behaviour.

More and more newcomers arrived and Zeke already wanted to wave at them in excitement when he saw the Dean arrived with a stern look upon his face.
Uh-oh, better not to make himself noticed, Zeke slunk away a little. It was already easy enough for him to get into trouble and he really had nothing to do with the flamingo, though some of the mess was his fault. When he looked down at the glass mess, he realised just how much of a mess it was. Not only were there potions and pieces of various containers lying about but some of the potions were starting to take on particular forms and it would only be a matter of time before at least one of them would explode into a mass of flowers.
What to do?
Tell someone or just wait for things to take their course?
Ah, the second option was so much more interesting, so Zeke simply remained quiet and kept an eye out for the potion, intrigued to see what was going to happen.

Del’ure swiftly deposited the flamingo in front of Foen as the latter tried to do a magic trick and horribly failing, apart from the dust particles. It was an incredible show, he had to admit, even though not quite what Foen had intended he was sure. But who was he to spoil the fun?

Turning on his heels to walk out of the room to prepare the next ‘show’, Del’ure gestured to Eliza. “Just go straight in. No worries. He may be a bit of a horrible wiz.., I mean sorcerer, but he isn’t going to harm you. Just watch the flamingo, it bites.”

It wasn't long before a more respectable looking sort of man, ah yes the Dean himself, had appeared. Thank goodness for that, however, seeing that the man seemed in no mood to be trifling with Farios bowed to him before exiting along with the other mischief makers. Goodness knew why these kinds, of all sorts, were here, they must have been bumbling over from Kaionar, what with their commonness and obvious disinterest in anything of substance.
Still, Farios helped escort them out, having taken it upon himself to safeguard the credibility of the academy in arm with others.

It was only a matter of time until he should have appeared. Rintho could sniff out a magical gathering for miles, nevermind if he was not always welcome, oh no, one day they would all understand. Still, he was not here to be calling to the dead, not when half of the high ranks here already had one foot in the grave. Maybe that was why they hated them, he was technically, eternally youthful. They envied his perpetual necrosis and regeneration, of course.
Making his way at a fast pace down the hall, Rintho had papers in his hand and his robes fanned out in a parade of magical-credibility; no mage worth their salt would be seen dead in anything but flappy clothes.
"Oh Apollo. We meet again." He announced, though his voice was quiet as he snuck himself into the potion chamber after the others had left, a grin on his face.
