((So, we’re off on another roleplay adventure! There’s no real plot as such, we’re just seeing where the words take us. Ideas are fantabulous and much appreciated.))

Setting: Rainforest! Plants are everywhere, ivy and moss dripping from the huge trees and the ground littered with bushes and shrubs. Everything is alive with movement, monkeys and birds in the trees, tapir, anteaters and big predator cats roaming the ground, and insects crossing every boundary inbetween. The weather can be highly changeable, with night falling in minutes and thunderstorms stopping and starting with frightening intensity.

==X==

The rainforest dripped with life, each little excitement leading the amazed young lash Elite, Hone, further into its depths. She wandered from a tangle of purple flowers wrapped around a tree, supposedly needing only air and sunlight, not soil like all the other various plants that exploded from every part of the ground. She had, many an hour ago, started out in the desert where she lived, but had now ended up completely lost in the middle of the rainforest. Not that she really minded- there was so much to see! She raced after a little bird that fluttered past her nose, following its progress from one plant to the other, dipping its long beak into a flower and licking out the nectar that lay at the bottom of the plant. As she saw it remove its head and fly to the next flower she laughed, entranced by the little specks of yellow pollen that now speckled its beak.

She ran further into the depths of the rainforest as she heard the hushing sound of water, her long ears twitching with curiosity. It normally got her into endless trouble, yet she still hadn’t leant that if you stuck your finger near a flame, you got burnt. And she was so stubborn, she was likely to keep annoying the flame until it really did burn her.

A busy stream raced across her path, the water gurgling as it tumbled over its rocky bed. The lash dragon crouched by its side, looking up and down the length of the stream and admiring how it sparkled. A big water source like this one was rare in the desert, and although she had seen them before, she was still always fascinated by the way water always seemed to be in such a hurry to get somewhere. And how it always had to make her thirsty! She bent down and slurped a long draught of water, licking her lips as it dripped off the end of her muzzle. At least it hadn’t gone up her nose-for once.

PostSubject: Gauss and Jin   Antics in the rainforest; which way is the sunshine? Icon_minitimeSun Sep 11, 2011 10:40 pm

This be Jin
This be Gauss

Gauss set Heidegger onto his cloak which rested on the ground beside him. Tamsin, his Acid Dragon, was off and about, hunting, he believed. These forests weren't exactly familiar but with Tamsin scouting about, navigation shouldn't be so tricky. The Acid Archer polished his quiver and set to sharpening his arrows. Of course his sword, Heidegger was no piece of scrap metal, but it was not his main weapon. It was something that was given to him, actually. A somewhat living memoir from days of old when things were a bit crazy in his life.

The red haired man sat slouched over his belongings, lost to not so errant thoughts flitting about his mind as per usual as he managed his weapons and supplies. Another satchel lay near his cloak that did not belong to him, a constant reminder of the other traveller with them. A young one, barely a man, really. He, by Gauss' standards, was average for a mercenary given the young age. Jin Seito was his name, if he remembered correctly. the raven-fair haired lad had gone for a ride on Tamsin, Gauss holding his dragon to a word of caution and courtesy toward the boy.

The dragon's spirit didn't take well to the youth; it never takes well to many people, really. In fact, it took a long while to get Tamsin used to his own presence. Even though it wouldn't show to most people, he really hoped that his dragon wouldn't harm the boy...

Jin wasn't afraid of heights by any man's standards. But he sincerely believed that his new mentor's dragon was out to get him. He admired Gauss and his dragon Tamsin; even if the dragon itself gave him bad vibes most of the time. Jin dind't think himself as a mean person, although he admits that the way he looks often gives that impression to most.

And riding dragons isn't as fun as he thought it would be. At least Tamsin more or less promised not to kill him.

Jin's spear was strapped horizontally across his back so as to not scrape against Tamsin's back. and threatened to throw off his balance if it hadn't been for his first master's rigorous training in that particular area. With a sigh, Jin kept his silence, only tightening his grip should he have to. He really wished he could get back to the camp; he was regretting asking to tag along with this murder-inclined creature.

Whatever had possessed him to venture this deeply into the forest? The idea had been madness!

At least that was how Fenrir felt about it now as he made his way through the rainforest, angrily snapping at yet another tangle of something green which had dared to cross his path. These many plants were some sort of evil offspring of the gods, who were intent on making his life miserable and punishing him, he was certain of that. For what reason, he did not know however. Yet, he was sure there could be no other explanation for the existence of such nuisances.

As if on cue, a piece of soggy moss landed on his head with a watery 'plop'. Everything seemed to be melting in this incredible heat. Even the drops regularly dropping from various plants and trees seemed to be melting somehow, nowhere near as refreshing as water drops were supposed to be, especially in such disgusting temperatures.

Furiously, Fenrir swiped the moss off his head, shaking his wings in a vain attempt for a brush of cooling air. it was frustrating more than anything really but seeing that the wolf dragon had long since given up trying to retrace his steps in this very green but yet very multi-coloured maze, he had settled for trudging on. His black furry coat certainly did not help with making his journey any more comfortable. He might not be furry all over, but even the scales seemed to be clinging to him in a sweaty, uncomfortably and simply horrible mess. All of these little facts did not help in any way to improve his already dark, and rather foul, mood. The rainforest had not been good to him so far and he was intent on making the rainforest suffer in return. How? He did not even have an inkling of a clue.

Suddenly, his ears picked up a very interesting sound amidst all the annoying fluttering of wings, buzzing of insects and whatnot that had accompanied him on his miserable path. Listening intently, Fenrir stopped dead in his tracks for a second, ignoring the irritating feeling of one of his feet slowly sinking deeper into the somewhat muddy floor and a small glimmer of hope surged through him as he recognised the sound. It was the beautiful melody of streaming water!

Ignoring the itching that had suddenly begun on his leg, Fenrir removed his foot from the muddy little hill and rushed forwards, ignoring the flowers he mowed over as he ran towards the sound that would be his release, his freedom, his - CRASH!

Somehow, the flowers had not been happy about him running them all over and trampling down their colourfulness and they had taken their revenge by slamming a low hanging branch into the wolf dragon's face. Moaning, Fenrir lay sprawling on the rainforest floor, small ants furiously climbing up his leg from when he had stepped into their nest a few feet back. The sound of the water so close, he could even smell it and hear the splatter of someone else drinking from his source of freshness, but his head was turning and he could feel a bump forming on his head, where he had connected with the tree. "I hate my life," he grunted, trying to scramble back to his feet, before he slumped back down in a dirty, sweaty mess, wishing for the water to come to him until the stars would disappear.

As he made his way between the trees, ploughing unconcernedly through the layer of moist, squishy, decomposing leaves which coated the ground, Sincostan muttered furiously to himself. The words were inaudible, but they tumbled out of his mouth at an extreme rate.
'Seventy-two!' He announced this triumphantly, giving a pleased little hop into the air qand a flutter of his wings in celebration.
'Ouch,' he said a moment later. 'Mighta notta beena good idea.' A brief inspection of his wing, however, revealed that all was well and he continued on his way, humming happily to himself as he tried to catch the falling droplets of water on his tongue. The air around him was sifling and dense with its humidity, but it didn't bother him- his scales made an effective barrier from the water.

He skipped along contentedly for a little longer. He had no destination in mind; he had just caught sight of the rainforest from the sky and decided it merited some investigation. It turned out that there was no chance of him getting out by air, but no matter- there was plenty enough to see in here to stay for a few more days. He heard a volley of bird calls bounced across the trees above him, and sat back on his haunches to mimic the chirping tone of one brightly-coloured bird he saw perched on a branch above his head. It looked at him with a bemused expression before replying. Delighted, Sincostan chirruped again before jumping back to his feet and trotting towards where he could smell- and hear, actually- a stream. The dragon stuck his face into the water and quickly drank his fill, not particularly considering the faint splashes he could hear off to the side somewhere.

Upon hearing a voice behind him, however, he whisked his muzzle out of the water and spun round to see a wolf dragon lying on the ground looking sorry for himself.
'Whatcha-ronna th'ground for? D'ya wanta drinka outta the stream? Why doncha get up ontaya feet? Areya ill? Imma great healer, Imma th'best you'lla find. Imma better thanna Euphorn.' Here, he puffed his chest out proudly. 'S'long as I gotta somethin'ta drink, I'lla heala everybody in th'world.' His words continued to pour out in an uninterrupted stream, seemingly without even pause for breath.

Picking her way through the rainforest, Kiesa's ears were flat back along her head. She carried her tail curled up at the end so that the silky tuft on the end didn't drag through the mulch that was getting stuck in the clefts of her delicate hooves. How had she ended up in this horrible place...? Naturally, it would have been the only escape from the hunters who had been stalking her for most of the night. Perhaps the pearly glow she emitted in darkness looked pretty, but it definitely wasn't helpful for her survival- her magic was flighty and erratic at best, and so her only defence was her swift and lightfooted running. But that running had been towards the maze of closely growing trees. The hunters had no hope of finding her now, but equally she had no hope of getting out- and she was hating this place more and more with every second she spent there.

Her smooth coat was almost sticky with the droplets of moisture which clung to the hairs. Sap and yet more water dripped on her from time to time, and while she liked how the place was bristling with thousands of lives, she wasn't so keen on the swarms of insects that pestered her, landing on her skin and forcing her to twitch them off repeatedly. One landed on her nose, and she frantically shook it off, splaying her legs slightly for balance as she thrashed her head from side to side. It left after a second or two. Kiesa huffed as she resumed her careful travel through the trees and undergrowth, her main guiding light that which radiated from her body and particularly her horn.

Hone jerked her head up out of the stream as she heard the sound of movement through the brush behind her, her long ears twitching with both excitement and curiosity as something barrelled its way through the rainforest towards her. Whatever -whoever- it was, they weren't making a very good job of saying quiet. There was crashing, and crunching, and twigs and leaves and all sorts of things. Maybe it was a new friend?

Despite her curiosity, she stayed close to the stream, with the thought that the other person was heading for the sound of running water. Even with the subtlety of an elephant (which are, in fact, rather subtle beasts when it comes to moving through dense foliage, apart from the fact that they leave a rather large elephant-shaped hole in whatever tree they walk through), they must have heard the sound of the stream. And it was a good place to come- the water really did look pretty, gurgling over the rocky bed of the stream in a never-ending cascade. Cascade... what a pretty word.

The word distracted the absent-minded lash dragon for enough time for the other person to get close, arriving with rather a bang and a wallop on the ground. She cocked her head to one side, observing the black and yellow dragon- a wolf dragon, they were cool- before padding up to him, giggling at his quiet remark.
"Well, it ain't so bad now, ista, y'just ran into me!" crowed Hone, bending down to eye the other dragon with excitement. Before she could say anything else, she was almost startled out of her scales by another dragon that seemed incapable of forming any real words. They were all jumbled up, like blocks someone had just knocked down!
"Hoo'ista?" she asked in confusion, turning her head to the other side as she looked at the new tear dragon. Then she managed to make out something he said, and her face lit up in excitement.
"Y'need something t'drink? There's a stream right here, lookee, lookee!" She hopped in the air and flailed a wild wing at the stream, almost tripping over a broken, rotten log that lay underfoot. Both of them seemed to need something to drink, and she leapt over to the edge of the stream, dunking the entirety of one wing into its depths before dragging it out and flicking it at the other two dragons, a wide grin on her face.
"There, y'got some drink!"

Fenrir almost jumped a few feet up in the air despite his current horizontal position when there were suddenly two dragons talking to him, both in what he could only assume to be words but he could not make out any of them. One had a very, very weird accent and the other seemed to be trying to ignore any kind of actual word or sentence structure. They looked fairly normal but the wolf dragon was not so sure about their mental capacity.

It had been a shock to have the very flashy and bright dragon suddenly begin frolicking around him and eyeing him very closely, but at least this dragon had explained the drinking sounds he had heard in his daze, but when the second, a blueish dragon began to blabber to him, it sent every single one of his hairs stand on end. The dragon kept happily chatting away without Fenrir even comprehending what he was going on about, though he did seem rather proud of something. Of course, there was no way for Fenrir to even begin guessing what it was. “Wha…?!”

The female was very energetic and seemed to be quite open-minded but he still did not really understand what she was saying. That was until she mentioned the stream and lightly jumped towards the tear dragon and the water, the very thing he had been longing for. Even if he didn’t quite understand any of them, he realised they both had understood him and Fenrir supposed they both knew he wanted to get to this liquid freshness.

However, he was absolutely not amused when the lash dragon suddenly dipped her wing into the stream and sent a shower of drops over the tear and the wolf dragon. An angry flash passed through his eyes at the thought of her wasting his precious prize, so he then finally begun to struggle to get into an upright position, only to stay stock still after merely a few heartbeats.

“Oh shit…,” he whispered, his voice trembling from both the effort to get back onto his feet and the effort not to scream out in panic. The ants had taken over his leg completely and were starting to take their revenge, not only by crawling furiously with their tiny feet to make him itch but they were beginning to bite and pee and whatnot it was that ants were doing. The pain was starting to be excruciating and Fenrir was scared he would never get the little beasties out of his fur ever again. At least that thought did the trick.

Without wasting another breath, the wolf dragon suddenly jumped up with wide-open eyes and rushed to the stream, jumping into it full-force and without consideration of the two dragons standing close by, who would no doubt be drenched by the oncoming water front. With a loud splash, the wolf dragon crashed through the water’s surface and with a relieved sigh, he felt the ants being washed away along with the weariness and a small portion of his annoyance.

((ooc;; mind if I jump in to get a bit of practice with Dyavol?))

The rainforest bustled with life, and insects hummed in the air all around. However, amongst them lurked a very tiny creature who was positively fuming. He hated insects, yet Dyavol was completely surrounded by them. As a butterfly dragon, he was invisible from the ground, as he currently clung to a leaf high up in the trees, but to avoid the insects around him he spread his delicate wings and began to flutter down.

Far below, he could see a few figures moving around. He dropped lower and lower until he reached the level of the dense shrubbery nearer the ground, and looked around. He had no idea why he had thought it was a good idea to go out into the rainforest, but there he was. Even the leaves seemed huge to him, and although he would never admit it, he was feeling a little intimidated. However, the spectacle of a wolf-dragon being attacked by ants tackled that emotion. It was inspiring to see that such tiny creatures were so powerful, and he was easily thrice their size.

Dodging a droplet of water from the wolf-dragon’s undignified entry into the water he fluttered a little closer. No one seemed to have noticed him, but he was far enough out in the open to not be perfectly concealed by the huge, damp leaves any longer.

Temero screeched with fury, kicking and squirming, flailing his wings in all directions. He was making a ton of noise, and really, it wasn't a good idea for him to. Because he was stuck. In a bunch of vines. He had been flying over the forest and had decided to land, a decision which he regretted because he had simply fallen through the canopy uncontrollably, until he was caught in a web of vines. And now the yellow and black Wolf dragon was quite stuck. Only his wings were free, and they thrashed around as he struggled, still screaming in rage and frustration.
Finally he went limp, his head falling back until he was looking down at the ground, the tip of his spiked tail nudging his nose. The ground was not very far away, but it might as well have been miles down for all that he could reach it. Just my luck, he thought with a sigh. He reached up and began gnawing on the nearest vine again, which he had been doing for the past few hours before throwing yet another temper tantrum. The vine was far thicker than it had originally appeared, and he was having some difficulty breaking through it. So, until he got himself free or something bigger wandered along and ate him, he was stuck hanging in the air for the conceivable future.

Hearing the other dragon, Sincostan spun round and gave Hone a large grin.
'Heya there! Imma Sincostan, butta you c'n calla me Sin. Whatsa y'name? Whaddya thinksa wrong with him? D'ya thinka we shou-' The dragon had paid no attention to whether or not Hone had been listening to him, but when she flicked the water over him he gave a startled screech before regarding her with narrowed eyes, the wolf dragon behind him completely forgotten.
'Imma getcha fora that,' he growled playfully, before leaping sideways to the water and dipping a paw in. Instantly he brought it up and flicked droplets all over Hone, grinning widely as he did so. When he felt more water splash on his back, he jumped round, utterly confused as to how Hone had got round behind him to do that. However, the water was explained when he saw Fenrir sitting in the middle of the stream.
'You'va got'ta th'water!' he cheered, before a movement between the threes caught his eye and he hopped round once more.

'Who're ya?' he asked of the butterfly dragon curiously. 'Are-a youa dragon? You're-a tiny! 'Maybe your'an insect?' He skipped forwards to inspect Dyavol more closely. 'Your wingsa likea butterfly!' he exclaimed.

A loud noise caught Kesia's attention as she trekked through the forest. Lifting her head, she gazed in its direction for a few seconds before deciding to investigate. She stepped up her pace a little, and a little more when the noise stopped- whatever was making it sounded like they were in trouble, and if it had stopped then it was likely because they couldn't make the noise anymore. And that was likely because they were unconscious, which wasn't good news.

She was surprised to see a dragon, thoroughly ensnared in a thick tangle of vines. He didn't appear to be hurt as he gnawed glumly on the plants which trapped him, and so Kesia's first action was to approach him and touch her horn to the vines. It glowed more brightly for a moment, and then the light spread throughout the vines. They slid back smoothly, pulling themselves free of the dragon and releasing him.
Are you alright? she asked him, sweeping her eyes along his body. No, there was no apparent damage, which was a relief. Unicorns could only use their magic to help another, and they were generally expected to do so. Kesia had no wish to exhaust herself healing the dragon of any wounds he may have- she wanted to preserve her energy for getting out of this horrible, sendless rainforest. Perhaps the dragon would know of a way out?

At that remark, Dyavol swung his barbed tail violently. “I am most definitely a dragon. Never compare me to one of those filthy, fluttery things again.” He spat, slicing through a leaf with his sharp, metal-laden tail. The dragon below him seemed far too happy, and it made his flesh crawl. However, he did need to find a way out…

Fluttering down, he settled beside the dragon’s paw and tried to puff out his tiny, scaly chest. “My name is Mahlyenki Dyavol, and I’m…pleased to meet you.” He announced, stumbling over the word ‘pleased’ with a forced smile. “And you are?” It was the most formal introduction he had bothered with for a long time, but in strange places it always seemed better to use his full, somewhat imposing name rather than his shortened one. He knew fully well that he was tiny, and he didn’t need any more weaknesses.

Temero let out a quiet shriek as the vines disappeared and he dropped like a rock the rest of the way to the ground. Fortunately it was not very far, he thought as he righted himself and stood, hissing at the vines above him. "Stupid things," he grumbled, shaking his fur out. Plopping down where he stood he looked up at the unicorn standing above him. "I give you my thanks," he said more loudly. "That... would have taken me a while." He hated showing any kind of weakness, however the Wolf dragon felt that his rescuer deserved to know of his appreciation. Temero scanned the forest around them, eyes flashing as he decided upon what to do. "So, what are you doing in this strange place?" he asked finally, wary of the creature even though it had saved him.

The wolf dragon didn't seem all that grateful for her help- though he did thank her, at least.
You're welcome, Kesia responded untruthfully, inspecting the dragon as she stood tensed warily, ready to flee at the slightest provocation. Maybe a dragon wouldn't want to sell her, but she saw no reason why they'd have issues with eating her.

What was she doing here? Good question. She gave a snort, and if she had been able to pull a face then she probably would have done. As it was, she settled for violently flicking away a stray insect with the tuft on her tail as she replied,
I was running from some hunters and I had to come in here to get away from them. Unfortunately, I can't find my way out now and I'm stuck. Kesia flinched as a large drop of warm water dropped onto the top of her head from the leaf of a plant above her head. She couldn't think of many environments that she hated more than this one.

"Not as stuck as I was," Temero grumbled, looking up at the vines irritably. That was what he got for landing in a strange place when he could not see exactly where he was going. Oh yes, he should have known better, but then, he had never really been one to look before he leaped. Or landed as the case may be. Looking around again he flinched as something ran over his paw, taking a distasteful step back when he realized that it had been a spider. "Well perhaps together we can find a way out," he suggested.

Hone grinned happily as she shook her wing dry, splattering more water all over the plants nearest to her. She sucked aimlessly on the end of a mouthful of feathers as she inspected the other two dragons, her ears twitching. She had never seen any dragons like these two before- the yellow and black one was particularly exciting looking. And the tear dragon… well, he talked awfully fast. And was apparently lots of fun! She bugled a challenge as she leapt away from the spray of water he sent towards her, giggling as he soaked her front.
“Y’gaarn t’get me? Not afore I get y’more!” she growled, whipping her tail backwards and forwards as she went into a crouch, a wide grin still plastered across her face. “Hey, that rhymes!”

Before she had a chance to retaliate the wolf dragon had suddenly leapt into the river with a howl, adding even more madness to the water-wetness situation. She flicked her tail blade over her face just in time to deflect the worst of what came her way, peeking over it as he sighed in relief, water dripping from her every scale.
“Well, tha’ was a bit… abrupt?” she giggled, the look on the dragon’s face making her laugh outright. “Whistae suddenly do tha’ for?” she asked, sidestepping around Sincostan and padding over to Fenrir’s side. He really did look silly now, his fur drenched and plastered down in long sticky strands. She didn’t envy him- first off, she was a desert dragon at heart, and water wasn’t her favourite thing, and secondly, it looked like it would take hours for his fur to dry out. Ick.
“I guess y’ain’t thirsty any more now then?” she asked rhetorically, rubbing her wings together to dry them off a bit. The tactic didn’t really work, and they started to stick together uncomfortably.

At the sound of voices behind her, she spun excitedly, wondering who it was the tear dragon was talking to. Of all the people she might have expected, the least of them was… a butterfly? On closer inspection it wasn’t really a butterfly, but a teeny tiny dragon instead. Her nose twitched in interest and she padded closer, her eyes flicking over the bright markings on the dragon’s body.
“I’m Hone!” she chirped as he announced his –rather long- name. Hers sounded rather simple in comparison, so she decided to lengthen it.
“Hone the super-awesome-epic lash dragon! Tadaaa!”

((I know, long time no reply. I suddenly got a life and everything.))

“Well, hello there, Hone.” Dyavol nodded, taking of to hover at around shoulder height so that he would be seen. He was getting really grumpy about all of the insects around him, but he was silently glad that the lash dragon had not mistaken him for one. However, she did seem a little too bubbly for his liking. Well, at least she was friendly, and therefore less likely to decide to stand on him.

The water droplets in the air seemed huge to Dyavol, and as he fluttered upwards he had to swerve violently to avoid being hit by them. That could prove dangerous for a dragon as admittedly flimsy as Dyavol. The forest was full of dangers for a little dragon like him, so the sooner he could escape it the better. Maybe one of these dragons knew how to get out…

“Erm, I don’t suppose any of you knows the way out, do you?” he asked plainly. Hopefully his long-winded introduction would have given him at least some standing among the little group, and if all went well he could be on his way before long. However, he had a feeling that it wasn’t going to be as simple as all that.

Completely ignoring the lash and tear dragon’s babbling, Fenrir agilely rubbed around on his leg to get rid of even the last ant, who seemed to purposefully want to cling to his scales, before he took a few large mouthfuls of waters, even enjoying the somewhat uncomfortable feeling of the liquid making its way down his dry throat. Before he was completely satisfied, a new commotion was stirring up with the arrival of yet another voice.

What?! Even more dragons? Fenrir thought it oddly unsettling to encounter so many dragons in a strange place such as this. What were they all doing here in the middle of this terribly unpleasant place? And why were they giggling and enjoying themselves? This place was a hole, full o insects and definitely not a location he would want to stick around any longer. He had already been in here far too long for his own liking.

Upon giving the newcomer a quick look-over, he growled: “What a mouthful.” The not-an-insect dragon, who looked suspiciously like a butterfly, seemed to have esteem issues. Well, granted, he would have too if he looked like a bloody insect. The wolf dragon sloshed around in the water once more to make sure he really got every single ant off of him – he didn’t want to have any nasty surprises later on – before he climbed out of the river again, purposefully getting out on the opposite side to where the others, which he now knew to be the incomprehensive Sin, the totally crazy Hone and the slightly grumpy Dyavol, were chatting.

His plan was to simply sneak away while they were distracted by each other and be back on his own again, but that idea quickly dissolved as his ears snatched up a few of the butterfly’s words. Way out! Suddenly, he was much more interested in the others again and against his better judgement, he mixed into the conversation. “Excuse me for being rude, I haven’t introduced myself yet. My name is Fenrir,” he said, trying to keep the growl out of his voice as he forced himself to be friendly. “We would be very much obliged if you could help us get out of here,” he then added, almost choking on the words, not only because he had to be overly forthcoming but because he wasn’t very keen on having others travel with him, even if it was only a little inconspicuous insect. Yet, he knew that it was probably the best way to get a positive response out of anyone.

‘Oops, sorry,’ said Sincostan, not sounding particularly bothered. ‘But ain’cha flutt’ry yaself? Its how ya fly.’ He shrugged, took a rare break from talking to lick a few droplets of water from his paw, and then introduced himself in turn. ‘Imma Sincostan, butta you c’n calla me Sin. Imma the sup’rawesomepic tear drag’n, iffa she’sa th’sup’rawesomepic lash drag’n.’ He flicked his tail as he quickly sucked in another breath before the flow of words resumed. ‘I’vea gotta no idea whatsa th’way out. Coulda youa fly up between th’trees? You’rea smaller thanna me, I don’ta fit. Athink thatsa th’best way.’ His last words were accompanied by a glance at Fenrir, before he turned his attention back to the butterfly dragon. He gazed expectantly up at the tiny dragon, wondering vaguely why Dyavol hadn’t thought of simply flying himself. Those few moments, however, were long enough for his attention to wander, and in the next second he licked his lips thoughtfully before crouching down and beginning to sketch out equations in the mud.

True, Kesia acknowledged, watching the spider unconcernedly as it scurried across Temero’s foot. I don’t know if staying together would really help us find a way out, but we may as well, I suppose. It’ll give me some company, at the very least. She shifted uncomfortably on the squelchy ground. Do you think we could get moving quickly? I really don’t want to spend any more time here than I have to.

Temero nodded in agreement. There was nothing more he wanted to do than get out of the strange forest. Still... he looked up at the trees and was disgruntled to find that all of their branches were too far up for him to easily walk upon while still maintaining a conversation. Which meant he would be consigned to the ground. "Well, we had better get going," he said. "Though... I am not sure which way to go."

Though he was fairly certain of which direction he had originally been flying, the wolf dragon could not be completely certain, which made things difficult. However, it was better than nothing. "I think we should go this way though," he suggested, nodding over his right shoulder.

Hone grinned mindlessly at Dyavol as he fluttered around her face, watching his thin wings beat at the air- how they kept him aloft, she didn’t know. What was it about the little dragon that meant he could fly, stay in the air with such small wings, yet Hone couldn’t even get off the ground by running down a hill and jumping as high as she could, and she had had much bigger wings than the butterfly dragon did. Maybe it was something to do with magic… it was all beyond the ditzy lash dragon. She would have to ask Dyavol at a later stage, when they were off somewhere together. She glanced over at the wolf dragon, still half-submerged in the stream and still looking as dripping wet as ever, her ears perking up as he actually spoke for the first time. He was a funny one… maybe he was just shy? Yes, that was it, he was shy. That’s why he had gotten out the opposite side of the river! She sent a big smile in his direction, her head fins fluttering as he introduced himself.
“Hi Fenrir!” she chirped merrily, looking at Sincostan, whose words were running on just as fast as they ever had been. “I dunno t’way out o’here, but d’jur Dyavol?” He might know the way out- he looked quite the part in the rainforest, his bright little markings like the electric colours of the plants all around them, and the rest of his body like the green of leaves. But that didn’t mean he would know the route all the way back to the desert, where she had come from- it had been quite a long walk for her, and she was a lot bigger than the little butterfly dragon.

Nonetheless, she nodded along with Sincostan’s suggestion, looking up to the little patches of blue that occasionally showed between the trees above them. She frowned in confusion as the strange dragon suddenly crouched down to scrawl in the dirt underfoot, drawing what looked like letters into the dirt… but they were different.
“Wotcher doin’?” she asked, confused by the long equations the dragon seemed to understand with no difficulty at all.

Fenrir looked from one to the other, yet again, wondering what on earth he had gotten himself into now. They were talking too much, just far too much! How could any dragon be talking this much in such a brief moment of time?! And so weird on top of it, it was just incomprehensible to the wolf dragon. The tear dragon was even worse than the lash dragon and they both were talking in these weird accents where Fenrir really had to concentrate on understanding what they were even trying to say.

His dark mood began to creep back into his bones and the wolf dragon was resolved on wandering off by himself, not even waiting for their fantastic solution of finding a way out of the jungle. They didn’t even know the way, none of them did, so why should he wait around for them and have them get on his nerves all the time when he could just as well wonder off by himself and hope to find the quickest way out as soon as possible.

Of course, it always came differently than planned and Fenrir’s ears once again perked up at Sin’s suggestion for the butterfly dragon to fly up to the top of the trees to look for a way out, or at least a general direction. It was definitely not a bad idea and as the tear dragon had said, nobody else could even do it, they were too big and would get entangled in the greenery. Weakly, he returned the lash’s greeting and wondered how it was that she was so overly cheerful, but he quickly pushed that aside. He didn’t want to know, he preferred his grumpiness.

“Hmm,” he finally agreed, “it might really not be a bad idea. Just don’t get caught by any plants - they seem vicious around here - because we might not be able to help you out again.” Nonchalantly, he began to lick a few water droplets off here and there. It wasn't like he cared if the butterfly dragon got caught or not, but he cared about the fact that if Dyavol got caught on his way up, then he would still not know the quickest way out of this horrible place.

Dyavol looked up at the high forest canopy, and tried to judge the distance. Whatever it was, it was further that he could fly on his tiny wings. “I’d love to help,” he hissed, “But there is no way that I can fly straight up for that long. My wings are only really suited for flitting.” He said, quite indignantly. “But if you listen to Sincostan, we could just head that way. We’re bound to reach the end of the trees before too long.” He added helpfully.

“And no, hone, I don’t know. I got swept along in that cloud of wretched bugs up there.” He said, flitting over to Hone’s other shoulder. He liked the lash dragon – she didn’t seem likely to attack him, and he wasn’t sure how much he trusted the other dragons. He was too far from his home turf to be sure of any of them.

However, as he caught sight of the scratchings near Fenrir’s feet, he realised that he might have underestimated himself. Maybe the trees weren’t that high, and the way down wouldn’t be too hard. “I’ll try flying up if you like, but one of you will have to carry me for the next leg of the journey – there is no chance that I’ll be able to fly when I get back down here.” He said, his tail barb flashing in the greenish light. He wanted to be free of the forest as much as any of them, and if this was the best way, then so be it.

Hone's question made Sincostan jump, his head jerking up as he blinked at her in surprise.
'Itsa trigganommatry,' he explained. 'Doncha know how itsa workin'?' He was clearly ready to launch into a lengthy explanation of his namesake, but luckily for Hone he was soon distracted by Dyavol insisting that he wouldn't be able to make the flight. Instantly, the tear dragon swiped his tail across the maths he had already written in the mud, wiping out the numbers and symbols. He began to feverishly sketch in new sums and he soon straightened, just as Dyavol reassessed his flying abilites.
'From whatt'A estymayted th'heighta th'trees ta-be, anda ya weight anda th'sizea ya wings, I thinka thatta you c'n fly uppa there. I'lla carry ya on th'way back, I don'ta mind.' He gave the smaller dragon a bright grin. If possible, his words had grown even faster than normal from the excitement of the maths to be used in everyday life rather than having to make up problems to solve as entertainment or just to challenge himself. It didn't occur to him that his manic cheerfulness might annoy Fenrir and Dyavol, possibly even Hone- or that it could be the reason why nobody seemed to stick around him for long.

~*~

Maybe the wolf dragon wouldn't be her top choice of a travel companion- that would quite likely be nobody- but at least he didn't seem like he wanted to hang around. She gladly followed his suggestion, moving smoothly off in the direction he had indicated and trying not to let her delicate hooves sink too far into the mulch beneath them.
I hope you're right, dragon, Kesia thought to Temero. I've spent far too much time in this place already and I don't want to waste time getting further into it. As she finished the words, she looked over to the side, her ears pricked at the sound of a river.

Ooc: Spirit, we can either have them meet up with all the others along by the river or just have them find their own way out. I don't mind at all Smile

Surprisingly, Dyavol found Sincostan’s peppy attitude quite refreshing. He was really getting irritated with the hum of the insects above them. He was going to enjoy spearing a few on his way upwards.

“Thanks, then. I’ll be off. If you run off without me, I will not be impressed.” He scowled, his permanent bad mood settling over him fully. Then, lurching upwards with a flap of his wings and a kick of his legs, he banked skywards towards the treetops.

The band of insects rushed towards him faster than he had expected, and his eyes glittered as they bussed past his deadly tail. With a carefully balanced swish of his tail, he managed to spear three flies as he passed, and laughed aloud as he felt them struggle.

As the dragons below shrank into the distance, he felt his pace slow more and more. Every wing beat was a struggle, and his muscles burned. However, the leaves were looming closer and closer. With one last surge of effort, he pushed through a gap in the heavy leaves, and looked around, hovering carefully.

All around him was a carpet of green, all on the same level, and a stunning green glow seemed to surround everything. The sun was incredibly hot about all of the trees, and the air felt thin. However, he could see a disturbance in the trees due-south (judging by the sun), and presumed that it was a clearing. In every other direction the forest stretched as far as he could see, but the thinning of the trees suggested hope that way. However, without going to look he couldn’t tell for sure.

All of a sudden, his wings ground to an alarming halt. His shoulders burned, and his limbs felt like rocks. For a moment he hung, suspended on the slight upward breeze coming from the trees, but eventually he began to spin, and fall.

The leaves stung as they slapped off his scales, but he refused to let any fear into his mind. Fear was for the weak, and he wasn’t afraid of whatever awaited him at the end of the fall. Nevertheless, he struggled to pull open his wings against the rushing wind next to him, He thrashed his tail, and spun wildly as he tried, but it seemed to be to no avail. He swore, and slashed a leaf with his tail, still struggling to snap open his flimsy wings.

As Dyavol struggled up skywards, Sincostan craned his head back to watch the little dragon and quickly checked through his calculations, not at all wanting to have got them wrong. However, he seemed to have succeeded, as his new acquaintance vanished into the canopy of the trees and didn't reappear for long enough that it seemed like he could have succeeded in getting above the trees and seeing what was going on.
However, when Dyavol came down from his flight, the tear dragon began to suspect that all was not well from the way he was plummeting with a complete lack of control over his flight. At least, that was how it appeared; it it had been him, Sincostan would not have wanted to be crashing into all those trees.
'Imma catcha!' he yelled excitedly upwards, hopping nimbly about in preparation to position himself as a crashpad for the tiny dragon.

With a final burst of energy, Dyavol’s wings clicked open, and he spiralled again. The pressure burned in his already tired muscles, and he still landed too fast, but luckily Sin was ready and waiting for him. He headed straight into the middle of his back, and landed with what Dyavol though was great force. However, for Sincostan it was probably just like a small pat.

“South...” he gasped, panting hard, “We go south.” He was really quite an unhealthy dragon – he didn’t particularly like exercising, and was completely unable to move after that colossal flight. Then, he collapsed, lying on Sincostan’s back helplessly, and hoping that he wouldn’t get shaken off too soon.
