In honour of Monty, our fearless leader, I will put this first, very green, post for the typical and basic stuff, the rest will follow and flow according to our moods. So sit back and enjoy the ride, as shall we.

Rules:
As for rules, all should know, but I will repost - you never know. Thus, for Rules, please check this link.

Tutorials:
Should help be required with expressions, styles, ways to combat or anything else you're unsure of, please refer to the following two guides:
Zay zay's Combat Guide
Eldarwen's Tutorial

Setting:
A magical and beautiful green scenery. A huge, green meadow, reaching as far as the eyes can see, with lots of flowers sprinkling a little colour all of the place. In the far away distance, a dense forest, just about as green as it can get after spring has finally come crashing down with all its might on the lovely island of Dragon's Cove to spread greenness in nature as well as positive thoughts and happiness amongst the people and animals as everything begins to prosper and grow. Everything seems peaceful. And green. Without any dark clouds in the sky, nothing evil seemingly lurking around in the peaceful greenery.
All in all, it was a beautiful and sunny day and there was nothing at all in sight that could obscure this perfectly harmonious setting. Or was there?

~((I promised Monty a green setting... ^-^))~

Ooc;; Haha Eldar, reading that scenery just made my day. :'] Thank you~
Anyways, now for my post, oh dear, it's been a while. >.<

Bic;; The colours of silver, green and grey shot through the sky at an amazing speed. A total blur to the naked eye. One blink and the colours would be missed, as if nothing had happened. Apart from the immense gust of wind that followed. A force so strong, it could knock someone from their feet.

The Guardian dragon in the sky was surging forwards at a great speed, trying to shake the two smaller dragons either side of him off his tail. Fighting against the wind, the silvery blue dragon tilted his head and shot one large ball of blue fire at the green dragon next to him. The smaller dragon was fast. It quickly dodged the glazing ball and returned a short stream of fire itself. The Guardian barely managed to dodge it, since he also had to avoid a symmetrical blast from the other beast.

As soon as the grey dragon paused the attack, he quickly shot forwards and rammed his horns into the Guardian’s shoulder. He let out a roar of pain as they connected and let out another blue fireball, missing the beast by inches. The meadow beneath them was coming to an end and instead, the grass was replaced with a dense forest. Taking advantage of the scenery change, the green dragon flew above the Guardian and the grey sank its teeth into his side. As it did this, the green kicked out with its hind legs and transferred all of its weight onto the Guardian’s back. Unable to move his right wing as much as necessary through the pain to keep his height in the sky, the three dragons descended out of the sky.

There was a large and sturdy oak tree in the distance that started to come angerously close to them. The Guardian dragon physically couldn’t lift himself up over the top of it whilest carrying the weight of two other dragons as well. All he could do was kick out frantically.
Suddenly at the last minute, the two other dragons let go and flew up into the air and out of harms way, not giving their enemy enough time to do the same.

There was a loud bash as the Guardian dragon struck the tree and knocked it over.
Silverwing was helpless as he crashed into the ground at an amazing speed.

~((Glad to be of service hehe))~

Amongst all the green and flowery colours spread out in the rather large meadow, Freki's white hair stood out like a bright star in a pitch black night. The young man was slowly making his way through the grass, enjoying every moment of this peaceful quietness without a single being around to make him feel uncomfortable or less at home. He savoured such moments, where he could escape from the noise of human beings and seek refuge in the arms of nature, embracing it's harmonious, yet vivid atmosphere. Though the more the sun was burning down on him from its high throne in the sky, Freki decided it was time to find some shadow and cool off, maybe take a little nap before moving on. By that time, he was not too far away from a quite dense looking forest and he made a beeline for it in hopes of finding a nice little place to rest in.

Sighing, he shuddered as the first touch of the trees' cool shadows crept over his skin. After the sunlight, it was a quite sudden change, but all the more necessary when he realised he had just gotten himself a sunburn and definitely needed to cool off. Maybe he should find some herbs to ease the pain, should the burn worsen in the near future. Already considering where the place might be to settle down for a quiet nap, Freki looked up in surprise as a sudden, very powerful gush of air brushed over him, making the tree tops rustle as if a storm was coming up. Weird, there was not a single cloud in the sky. How could a storm have come up so unexpectedly fast? There was nothing to be seen other than the leaves still swaying in the aftermath of the wind rush and the clear blue sky above in between the tiny holes within the greenery.

Soon after, the sounds of branches breaking was resounding through the forest, growing louder and louder. Something was going on and it didn't sound too good. Every single hair on Freki's body was standing on end as images flew through his mind of what might possibly cause this ruckus. So much for sleeping... Undecided as he so often was, he was still pondering whether he should go check it out or not, when a loud bang took the decision of his hands, and his will to help whatever seemed to have painfully crashed into a tree took over and made him dash towards the noise. Yet, the sound of a big tree coming cracking down to the floor, taking several other trees down with it made the young man stop dead in his tracks. What on earth had just crashed into that tree that was powerful enough to bring it down with that one blow? Picking his way more carefully now, Freki edged closer, prepared to run back to where he'd come from should this prove to be dangerous. Yes, even months after he'd decided to move away from the city and had been on various adventures, he was still something of a chicken.

The sight which presented itself to him was not at all what he'd expected though. Flying bears couldn't have made him look more stunned than the image of a very large silvery dragon having slid down the broken tree trunk, now lying amongst a mass of bits and pieces of trees, broken branches, leaves and apparently a pool of blood... Immediately, Freki forgot all fear and hurried over to the unmoving dragon, and looked it over, trying to locate the source of the bleeding. He would not dare move it though for fear of making things worse. Without knowing what was broken - and there were quite a few things bound to be broken after such a fall - Freki did not want to move the wrong thing and cause the poor being even more pain. Nobody else was around, no human, no dragon, no flying bears.. How could this have happened? Dragons were known to be much more coordinated than this, so why... ? And then he saw the rip and bite wounds, which could only have resulted from some kind of attack. The tree certainly had not bitten the dragon for banging into it. But where had they gone to? Was the attacker going to come back to finish the job?

Ooc;; Short because I was in a rush, sorry. ^^;

Bic;; Blackness filled his mind as he lay their unconscious. A few minutes of stillness passed until there were signs of movement within the great beast once more.
Slowly flickering his eyes open, he soon forced them shut again as he winced at the pain that surged through his body. He was lying on his right side, and a small pool of blood was slowly getting larger around where he lay.
Groaning in agony, he raised his head up off the ground and revealed his two huge, ram-like horns as the leaves fell off them and onto the floor. His vision was blurred, and he couldn’t quite tell where he was. His head span as he tried to remember what had happened, but he just couldn’t.

It took a while until his vision cleared, but as soon as it did, it only reminded him of the great deal of pain he was in again. His leg was throbbing where it had been bitten, there was a big gash down his tail and for some reason, his hind leg was killing. It he tried to move now, it wouldn't do him any good what-so-ever. But on the same note, he couldn't just lie there. He felt like he had to go somewhere, like he had to do something...But what?

Suddenly, a strange scent reached him and his nostrils flared. His silvery eyes blazed and he let a defensive growl rumble from within his throat. He was in no position to fight, but he wasn’t about to give up.
Then something caught his eye. Snapping his head round, his glared into the eyes of another being. A human male. Narrowing his eyes he let out another menacing growl as the human came closer and worse still, came nearer to his wounds.

Shifting his body weight to the left in an attempt to get up, Silverwing let out a roar of pain as his shoulder reminded him that he was in no position to make a quick getaway.
He fell back down onto his side and his head collapsed onto the floor again. His horns taking out a small tree as he did so. He lay there, completely defenceless. Any attack now could put him in an even worse condition or in fact, could finish him off for good. It had been a very long since he was in a position like this. He lay there, wondering how he could have let this happen again.

When the dragon suddenly started moving, Freki was glad he had not gotten all that close to it yet. The sheer size of the beast was impressive and when he saw the large horns on the dragon’s head, the young man’s respect immediately grew some more. When the dragon seemed to be assessing his wounds, Freki observed him all the while. The look in its eyes spoke volumes and he felt for the poor beast, knowing that such a set of wounds must not be the nicest thing to see when regaining consciousness, on top of the realisation of just having come crashing down into a huge tree.

Not having realised that the dragon had been unaware of his presence until now, the young man jumped, sending his indigo band that held his hair loosely together at his neck flying, as the dragon let out a growl and looked at him as if he was about to eat the human. But even a mouse could have sensed that the dragon was not going to do anything about Freki, he did not have the strength. “Quite a feisty one, aren’t you?” he told the dragon softly, speaking in a low, soothing voice to let the creature know he was not going to hurt it. Well, not on purpose at least. Attending to those wounds was going to be painful for the dragon but there was no way around it. They had to be cleaned, and soon before they became infected. He kept talking to the dragon, while slowly but pointedly edging closer to the it, ignoring its growling completely now. Had he had time to think, Freki would have been surprised at his own courage but alas, he had other things on his mind right then. He wasn’t even bothered when the dragon tried to get up, knowing very well it was not going to happen and thus knowing he’d be safe without jumping back or simply running away.

As the dragon let out a roar, resounding with the amount of pain he was feeling, it tore at Freki’s heart. Yet, he kept his voice just as steady and soothing as before. “Just lay still. I am not going to cause you any harm.” Though, of course, as the next tree was broken like a tiny twig as the dragon slumped down, he had to jump up in fright, scalding himself and the dragon. “Though you don’t have to kill every tree around you, you know. Now, let me first find my band so my hair doesn’t get in the way when I start treating you now.” Luckily, the bright colour stood out clearly on the forest floor and Freki quickly tied it back into his hair before he took his shoulder bag off, rummaging through his portable apothecary to find what he needed. A few clean pieces of cloth, the last of his water reserve and some herbs. The very basics, but they were always the most necessary. The trickiest part was going to be cleaning the cloth afterwards and probably, smearing the paste over the wounds as a sort of bandage or protection from any outside dirt.

Not taking any more note of what the dragon was doing, Freki began working on the wounds. He carefully picked off the leaves and broken branches from all over the dragon’s body before wetting a piece of cloth and very slowly began cleaning out the wounds. All the while, he kept babbling in his same soothing voice, in hopes of calming the dragon when the procedure became painful.

As the young man jumped by fright in front of him, Silverwing misinterpreted it. His ears flattened and he bared his teeth, letting out another snarl. But he did nothing more. He couldn’t do anything more. Not that he would have done anyway, he was a Guardian of the isle, which meant he protected the creatures, not kill them if they dared moved. The only time he’d kill a creature he didn’t know, would be if he was certain the island would be a better place without it. Or of course, if it attacked him. Silverwing’s lips rested over his teeth slowly as he withdrew his fierce look. If the man jumped purely at his growl, then surely he wasn’t a threat to him, even in this state.

When the man spoke, the dragon’s ears twitched and his eyes narrowed. What was he getting at? What did the man want with him? But the tone of voice used wasn’t threatening in any way - it was quite the opposite. Then he spoke again…
One minute he was demanding stillness, next he was complaining about the greenery getting destroyed. Silverwing blinked as the man jumped. He wasn’t about to put himself in more pain just to move out of the way of a tree. It couldn’t even be classed as a tree. It was a twig. What was this man? A twig hugger? He watched closely as the human started to fiddle around on the ground looking for his band, the n he was even more shocked at the phrase start treating you now. So this man was here to help him then. As he moved closer though, Silverwing began to doubt his first intentions.

What if it was a cover up just to get close enough to cause him more harm. He let out another menacing growl as the human walked over to him. His tail moved along the ground slightly as a result of his uneasiness and distrust of the creature. He remained still as he picked the leaves from his wounds, ready to strike it the act of kindness he was portraying changed in any way.
Once the man had finished what he was doing, the dragon watched very carefully as he took his next step. As the watered cloth was placed on his wounds to clean them, a sharp stinging pain surged through his body. But it was nothing he couldn’t deal with. He was one of the five Guardians of Dragons Cove. He had faced a lot more pain than water and a cloth.

Totally unaware of the fine line he was treading on, Freki did not even notice the dragon's tail twitch in anticipation of lashing out at any kind of attacker, which would in this case certainly did not fit the bill. Maybe hurting the dragon at times when cleaning the wounds, the young man was not about to attack a dragon. He was neither suicidal nor did he have the courage do attempt such a ridiculous thing. Funnily enough, courage always seemed to show up when he was not thinking straight, when the need to help someone took over or he was completely absorbed in finding a specific plant or.. well.. a lot of things to do with nature really.

"I know this hurts from time to time, but it needs to be done," Freki was still talking to the dragon, slowly working his way all over the dragons body, at least the bits he could reach. There might be some more wounds on the other side but it probably wasn't the best idea to shift positions now. However, those wounds needed to be thoroughly cleaned as well, especially since they were still lying on the leftovers of the tree and might more easily be infected than the side he was working on now. And all this, he related to the dragon, still keeping up the soothing tone of voice. It seemed to please the dragon from what Freki could gather, at least it wasn't growling at him anymore. But, he wasn't putting on the paste just now. He tried to avoid leaving the cloth pressed to the wound when the dragon began twitching every now and then but it wasn't always easy. He didn't want to rub over the wounds, for fear of making them bleed more strongly again, now that the red flow was beginning to ebb away.

Soon however, there was nothing else to be done than to put on the paste. "This is going to hurt now," Freki warned, for the first time looking towards the dragon's face, searching his expression. He couldn't read much into it though, except for the lines of pain still being visibly traceable. He picked up the little bowl where he'd mixed the paste with some water to make it lighter and easier to spread, then approached the dragon again, carefully putting only a little of the paste onto his fingers. Knowing from personal experience that it stung like hell - not mentioning the not quite so agreeable smell - the dragon was more than likely going to have a severe reaction - or maybe not. Had he been standing, he'd have held his head high while Freki had been fiddling with the wounds. It was really something to be proud of actually. Taking a deep breath, he began very lightly smearing the paste over the first wound, covering it up almost completely, just leaving a little bit free so the wound could breathe. It would be the quickest way for them to heal. And still, Freki continued talking in his calming manner.

An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Empty
PostSubject: Re: An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen)   An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Icon_minitimeFri Jun 04, 2010 9:08 am

Silverwing’s muscles were relaxing a little as the man rubbed the cloth over him. Maybe he was just here to help after all. When he spoke again, he gave the human a deep stare, as if he was looking into his soul – if that were possible. He was still trying to figure out what kind of creature he was. One to help with an honest opinion of the world, or a man who played a trick, just waiting to get close enough to strike and do damage. He sighed, surely there was enough evil on the island already after inheriting these wounds from...something. He shook his head to blow the last few leaves off his neck that were starting to annoy him. He did this half-heartedly however, since it just hit him that he was in fact, exhausted. What had made him so tired? It was obvious due to his wounds that he had been attacked, by more the one dragon maybe? And if he had crashed into a tree this hard, surely he was flying...fast? Silverwing glanced over to the large oak that was on the floor. It was indeed...huge. It’s trunk was bigger than his body, and the leaves at the top could actually hide him in.

He groaned as the paste was placed onto his wounds. From the pain of course, but also because it was a harsh way to bring him back to reality from his mixed up thoughts. His nose twitched as the disgusting smell from the paste lingered over to him. But what could he expect? A medical solution that actually smelled nice?
It stung, It stung a lot. But he knew it was good for him, since he’d seen something similar to this before. He remembered someone telling him that it stopped infection, and with the amount of wounds that could get infected on him today was insane. Infection now would be the worst thing for him.

As the man continued doing his work, Silverwing gradually relaxed even more. The pain was increasing, as was guessed, and it was slowly getting at him. He shuffled slightly, since the cuts on his other side of his body he felt were getting irritated. But as soon as he moved his hind leg, he let out a groan. Moving it wasn’t such a good idea. He didn’t actually know what was wrong with it, since there were no signs of scratches or wounds on it.

An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Empty
PostSubject: Re: An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen)   An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Icon_minitimeFri Jun 04, 2010 9:54 am

Freki brushed some strands of his white hair out of his face with the back of his hand and used the opportunity to rub away the sweat that had began pearling on his forehead as well, looking over his work. The dragon’s body looked like someone had tried to draw a weirdly shaped patchwork on it. Groaning slightly, he straightened into an upright position again, only now noting that his back was hurting a little from hunching over in bizarre positions for a quite long time. Even though he was used to this, his back never stopped reminding him that he shouldn’t be overdoing it and that he wasn’t getting any younger either, despite his still quite young age. “Now, that would be done. But we still need to attend to your other side.” He had to smile when he noticed the dragon’s nose was wrinkled in order to escape the smell of the paste.

He immediately grew serious again though when the dragon tried to move his hind leg but couldn’t. From the outside, it did not look like there was anything wrong with it. Although... Taking a step closer to the hind leg to have a better look, it seemed to him as if the angle it was laying in was not quite what it was supposed to be. Oh my, I hope this isn’t broken... he thought. He was very unsure whether he’d be able to fix this kind of injury with the very limited means he had around here. “Maybe it’s just dislocated? Though I’m not I’m going to be able to fix that either.. It would probably take quite a bit of strength and more than one person to shove it back into place.” There was a huge difference between a dislocated human shoulder and a dislocated dragon leg, especially if it was such a huge dragon. “Well, with a bit of luck it’s just numb from the crash and we won’t have to worry about it. You might get some more feeling back into it once you’ve rested when the pain is hopefully beginning to ebb away.”

However, Freki was still wondering how this all could have happened. He had neither seen nor heard anything except for a gush of wind, which by now could easily be explained through the dragon’s flight. But how had it ended up in such a precarious situation? Shaking his head, Freki tried not to contemplate this. His work was not quite over yet, for the other side of the dragon, the one he was unfortunately laying on, still had to be taken care of. Looking into the dragon’s eyes, he said: “You will have to try and shift sides now though. It will hurt, I know and I will try to help you as much as I can, but you have to do this for your own good, alright?” Hoping the dragon would register what he was saying, he would definitely understand, Freki was sure of that, but with the amount of injuries, the dragon’s brain might not be entirely there for the time being. Yet, he had to try and if he couldn’t convince the dragon through words, well.. then.. he’d have to find other means to make him turn over.

An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Empty
PostSubject: Re: An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen)   An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Icon_minitimeFri Jun 04, 2010 1:52 pm

Silverwing came to the conclusion that this man was here to help him and not cause him harm. So as relaxed as he could be through the pain, he let his neck relax and he lolled his head onto the soft pile of leaves that he had caused when he killed the tree. But it wasn’t his fault, he wouldn’t just fly around, bashing into trees for the fun of it. No, it wasn’t fun, it was painful. Very painful. When he felt the man’s hands withdraw from his body, he raised his head to see what he looked like now he was finished.
Like a mess, really.
He was feeling slightly better, apart from the fact that his wounds stung, but his head was clearer. Yet he still couldn’t remember anything before he crashed into the tree, or how he did it or why. He felt strange, he hadn’t forgotten anything in the past. He had never had his memory ton from him like this.

Silverwing’s ears twitched when the human spoke about his leg. He watched as the man looked at it. it didn’t feel broken, but then again, what he was feeling right now didn’t make sense anyway. He analysed the way the man looked at him. He didn’t have any hatred in his eyes, or looked as if he had any means to hurt him. Could he trust him to attend to his other side like he had done to this one? If he wanted to attack him, he would have done it by now.
Taking a deep breath, he hurled his weight over, and used what footing he could to gently rest himself back onto the ground again. He winced as soon as his body weight was off the floor, and his legs buckled from underneath him. They couldn’t withstand the weight due to the amount of pain and pressure they were being put under. His body crashed onto the floor and a roar of pain escaped his muzzle. His head fell back onto the floor again as he closed his eyes, trying so very hard to deal with the surge of discomfort he was encountering. All the while, he didn’t take a second glance at the human, if he crushed him, he couldn’t help it. He didn’t have the strength to manoeuvre his body into a weird position just to avoid taking him out.
Several minutes passed before he opened his eyes again. Using what energy he had left to raise It up and see what damage was on this side. He groaned as he saw two horn gashes on his shoulder and many other cuts. He couldn’t tell whether they were caused by whatever had attacked him, or the tree.

An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Empty
PostSubject: Re: An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen)   An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Icon_minitimeFri Jun 04, 2010 2:40 pm

Freki still could not be sure how much of what he’d said the dragon had understood but as the dragon fixed his eyes on the human, the latter stood very still and let the dragon evaluate him. Had he been a dragon, or any other animal for that matter, he probably would have done the same, despite the dragon’s impossibility to prevent Freki from doing with him what he wanted. So at least he wanted to grant him the possibility to assess the man playing the doctor on him.

The movement came, despite the many wounds and the pain, much more suddenly than Freki had expected, so he had to jump aside, crashing his shoulder into a tree – somehow there was still one that had remained standing - when the dragon shifted position and with a huge effort let himself fall down onto his other side. The sound protruding from the creature was chilling and send a shiver down Freki’s spine. He must be in so much pain.. If he could make it all better with a wave of the hand, he would, but alas, such things were impossible. Catching his breath, while the dragon seemed to be resting as well, Freki began checking the other side. It did not look any more pleasant than the other one, especially those two gashes, which seemed rather deep on top of it all. What the heck had happened? What kind of animal could have done this? Because those two wounds certainly did not result from the crash with the tree.

When the dragon lifted his head again to take a look at the damage himself, Freki’s eyes fell on his horns, and suddenly, it dawned on him, who might have done this to the dragon. “You were attacked by another of your kind, were you not? Call me naïve, but I always thought dragons wouldn’t fight that much or this ferociously amongst each other. But I guess that is a ridiculous idea anyway. Not even dogs can exist without fighting and defending their territory...” Freki shook his head at his own childish thoughts. Then, he got straight to work, repeating the same procedure as on the other side: brushing off any debris, cleaning the wounds and finally covering it all with the paste.

Once done, he let out a heavy sigh and sat down next to the dragon. “You should get some rest so this can heal.” Looking the dragon over for the millionth time, Freki added: “Though I would quite like to know what has happened here. I am Freki, by the way. And you should get some rest now. I will keep watch.” Not to worry the dragon, he did not add he was not the bravest person in the world or even a decent fighter, but he reckoned that nothing much could happen anyway. Most animals would turn around and head into the opposite direction when smelling a dragon, and whoever did this would already have come back to finish off the job if they thought he had survived this fall at all.

An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Empty
PostSubject: Re: An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen)   An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Icon_minitimeFri Jun 04, 2010 4:26 pm

Ooc;; I did a bit of time skipping here, is that okay? If not, I’ll just re-write my post. c:

Bic;; It became apparent that when the man spoke again, he had not been crushed. Silverwing’s ears twitch when he mentioned a theory about his wounds. Why hadn’t he thought of it sooner? He probably did get these wounds from another creature, another dragon. But why couldn’t he remember any of it? Protecting the isle did come at a cost, the obvious battles, the obvious risks, the obvious near-death experiences. He should have thought of that a lot sooner. It was like he couldn’t even think straight.
He grunted as the human began working on his wounds again. He found it a lot more bearable than the other side, probably because he actually had a lot more to think about now, since the man had mentioned something so obvious.

As the man, now known as ‘Freki’ sat down next him, he stayed very still. Watching his moves very closely. The idea of ‘rest’ hadn’t even struck his mind. Any hopes of rest he would of liked, he thought, had vanished. Since whatever did this to him, would probably want to come back and finish the job. But then again, they would have already done so by now, surely. That was obvious as well, why had it taken him so long to think of that? His mind wasn’t thinking straight...at all.

Half-watching Freki, he lowered his head onto the ground again. But eventually, his tiredness caught up with him and forced his eyelids shut.

His dreams were fuzzy, just a blur of green and grey. Flashes of just those two colours, over and over again. All the while, a mumble of words over the top of the pictures. A phrase that he couldn’t make out, it seemed so distant, so far away...green, grey, green, grey, green, grey, black. The dream ended, just to start over again.
Those two colours flashed through his mind again, green, grey this time, the flapping of wings could be heard as well as the mumbling words, then a glint of sharp claws, then some wings, then the blackness again.
The dream continued to repeat itself over and over again. Green, grey, green, grey. Each time, the pictures became clearer and clearer, the two colours turned into two shapes, green, greythe mumbling became louder and the blackness at the end lasted for a shorter amount of time.
It started again, green, grey, green, grey, this time the shapes turned into two visible creatures. green, grey. The mumbling became even louder green, grey, and could suddenly be translated into words, words green that grey could green be grey understood...

The blackness of the end of the dream was replaced with the opening of Silverwing’ eyes. He remembered everything...

Smiling, Freki watched as the dragon's head and eye lids slowly became heavier and heavier until he was fast asleep. He for his part kept his promise and positioned himself so he could keep watch over the dragon, and his wounds, ready to interfere if necessary. He was pretty sure the injuries were all clean but one could never tell if something inside the body would start a revolution and begin infecting everything. He used the time to relax as well though. The tree he had crashed into earlier was now seeming like something he'd quite enjoy leaning against to try to let the tension ease away out of his body and give his back a break. Shaking his head, Freki pushed away all thoughts of him behaving like a seriously old person and began to reconsider the dragon - yet again.

Now that he finally had some time to actually thoroughly look at the creature, he came to realise it was a rather impressive sight, not only because of its size but because the dragon quite simply had a very nice colour. The silver gave it an even more dignified look than it already had on its own, being a dragon. It would certainly be amazing to see him unfold his wings and contemplate the dragon in its full size and glory. Other thoughts were circling his mind, like the recurring question of these odd events and why this had happen to this particular dragon. If there was any reason for it at all. Maybe he had just been at the wrong place at the wrong time, one could never know. Bad things happened all the time, whether one wanted them to or not. The other thing was that he definitely needed to find some water somewhere. He had used up almost his complete reserve and the dragon would need some liquid too once he woke up. It helped the body regenerate just as much as rest did.

Sighing, Freki closed his eyes for a few moments, the sheer excitement of the past hours washing over him. He relaxed more and more, dozing in the cool freshness of the forest, when suddenly he was startled by a new sound mixing in with the typical forest noises. The dragon was shifting but his eyes were still closed, though his eyelids seemed to be flickering a little. Was he dreaming? As Freki bent closer to make sure it had nothing to do with pain getting the better of him or death creeping up on the dragon, the creature suddenly opened it's eyes and seemed to be staring directly at Freki, who gasped, slightly afraid of the sudden change in the dragon's situation - he wasn't supposed to wake up for another few hours, the sun had not even finished its descent to hide behind the treetops - and fell back onto his behind. The look on his face said it all, but still he uttered the words: "What happened??"

An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Empty
PostSubject: Re: An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen)   An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Icon_minitimeSat Jun 05, 2010 2:28 pm

His eyes opened to stare into those of Freki’s. It should have startled him, but his head was spinning with so many thoughts that the shock didn’t even register into his brain. He heard the human’s question, but didn’t answer it straight away. Half forgetting about his injuries, he lifted his head up and began to move his body. Being careful as to not irritate his wounds and to not put any weight onto his heind leg. After a few seconds of moving, he was sat up. Now towering above the human in front of him.

He had to go, go deliver the message that he had risked his life to get a hold of.
Coming back down to reality, he remembered Freki’s question. He arched his neck to look down at the man. If anyone suddenly walked over, to them it would look as if he was getting ready to eat the poor human.
“I was attacked, I need to go. You should get away from this area of forest as well, just in case they come back. No doubt in the next few days a messenger will come to check on my body, and it won’t be a good idea to be nearby when they find out I’m not dead…”
His voice was deep and threatening, it almost sounded like a growl. He knew that he mustn’t be making a lot of sense at this moment in time. But he’d rather warn the man about what dangers were to come to him if he stayed nearby. Afterall, it was the least he could do.

Silverwing tilted his head to look at his wounds, he grunted. This would be painful, and it wouldn’t be easy. But he had to do it. He turned back to look at Freki, and lowered his head down to his height level.
“Thank you for your help, it’s nice to know that kindness still exists in places like this.”
With that, he stood back up to his full height – well, as high as he could without putting any weight on one of his hind legs. He shouldn’t even be standing, never mind thinking about travelling a long distance. But he had no time, he had a duty.

Ooc;; We need to now think of an idea of a plot. =p

PostSubject: Re: An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen)   An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Icon_minitimeMon Jun 07, 2010 8:03 am

Freki sat there on the forest floor, watching the dragon completely blindfold him and he kept wondering what had just happened, imagining scenarios in his mind, since the dragon did not answer his question. His eyes opened wide as the creature suddenly began to sit up and immediately ruled out option number 1 that the dragon was dying. However, this certainly was not a good idea! He should not be moving so much and he should definitely not sit up! Freki opened his mouth to scold the dragon but the look on the latter’s face made him swallow the words back down. Instead, he got up off the floor, feeling tiny, yet the dragon was still towering over him.

As the dragon bent down, Freki almost went into shock. The fact that he remained rooted to the spot was not an act of courage though, on the contrary. He felt as if every single muscle in his body had turned to ice, as if he was entirely paralysed. Was that how the dragon was going to thank him for his help? By eating him alive?!? The next words proved those thoughts wrong however, and Freki slowly began to relax a little, even if it was not the happiest of messages and the voice was certainly one to make humans and animals alike cower down, not to make them feel more comfortable. Why should I leave? I haven’t done anything and they can surely not harm me simply for being here, can they? Despite his opinion that such a thing was probably not going to happen to him, doubt was creeping into Freki’s thoughts. With a shake of his head, he dismissed it though: “Why would anyone want to harm me? I don’t get it.. I am just a mere human being and not even a very important one. Why would someone want to come after me?” Freki really did not understand what the dragon was getting at, even if he had just said he’d been attacked. But what had an attack on the dragon to do with him?

Following the dragon’s gaze as he looked at his wounds, Freki sighed. This move had not been good for the injuries, some might even start bleeding again with the effort of sitting up but he was not about to shout because of that. The dragon had a right to try and make himself more comfortable. As the dragon bent even further down towards him, the young man jumped yet again. The eyes looked so extremely huge when close up, they were like large pools of shimmering liquid, quite fascinating, but as Freki was not accustomed to such encounters, he was a tad frightened. Blinking, he acknowledged the dragon’s gratefulness with a slight nod of his head, which the dragon might not even have noticed as he straightened himself up again.

Snapping back into reality, Freki realised what the dragon was about to do and that was when he overcame any inkling of fear and began ranting: “Do you really think it’s a good idea to go flying away now? Now? With injuries, possible broken bones and no ounce of strength left in your body? Do you think I’ve been working hours on those wounds to get them cleaned up so they could heal as quickly as possible so you can ruin it all by taking off now? Are you completely insane? If there is indeed someone out there who would want to attack you again, don’t you think it’d be wiser to get some strength and heal beforehand? You wouldn’t even get past the edge of this forest before breaking down again.” Shaking his head, Freki stood there, looking at the dragon. “But do what you want.” After all he’d heard about the creatures, he’d figured they’d have a little more brains.

~((Hm, yes we do. I'm sure we'll be able to come up with something epic tonight ^-^))~

Ooc;; PAGE PWN. 8D
Bic;;"Because they can." He grunted. If some creature came back to find him, and instead found a puny human, they would kill him just for the sake that he was there. That he was there and it wasn’t who they were meant to have killed.
"And that’s exactly the reason, if they come back and find you here instead of me, they’ll take their anger out on you, simply because you won’t be able to stop them. Silverwing stared down at the human, registering his ever-so-confused face, and his nostrils flared as he took in the scent of the forest. He couldn’t smell anything coming, yet. But any time soon, something would come back, without doubt.
"They want me, Freki. They want to kill me for what I know, and what I am. I can’t let you suffer because of me. You have to get out of here, now. Really, thank you for helping me, but if you try to help me any longer, you’ll pay for it, and I won’t let that happen."
Freki’s change in his tone of voice made him stop. He looked over his injuries again with his huge, shimmering eyes and snorted. His wings weren’t that damaged actually, eventhough they had been folded up all the time, but still. They felt okay at the least. He had to go, he couldn’t wait around for his wounds to heal. If he waited, it would only cause a more serious situation. The way he saw it, it was either try to get as far away as possible and stand a chance, or wait and attacked, with death as almost the most certain outcome.
"I’ll be able to fly," he grumbled, shaking his wings, but keeping them tightly folded up. Flying was possible...llanding was different matter. But now the human was moaning about the amount of time he had spent on his injuries. He didn’t have time for moaning.
Silverwing twisted his head round and quickly lowered it down to Freki’s level, invading his personal space. His voice was harsh, and his eyes were blazing, he wasn’t happy.

"If I stay here, I die. If I die, the whole of Dragons Cove won’t stand a chance. You will die for what is to come. Do you understand me, human?" By the end of his harsh warning, his fangs ended up showing. They were long, pointy and sharp, very sharp. "Do you think I want to risk my health by getting away from here?" He finally spat.

Ooc;; Woa, the paragraphs are all messed up. o; Whats with double spacing for a paragraph dude? >.>

PostSubject: Re: An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen)   An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Icon_minitimeMon Jun 14, 2010 6:06 pm

"But that's just harsh.." There wasn't anything else Freki could say to the dragon's words, who probably was more knowledgeable than he was, but he could simply not believe that there were creatures out there that would kill just for the sake of it. Though.. Stop right there. He had personally encountered a few people that would kill just for the thrill of the act without any thoughts for aftermath or anything else, why should it be any different in this situation. Sighing, he stated the obvious: "You must be pretty important then when they're so desperate to kill you." He could finally begin to see the necessity to get out of here in case the attackers actually did come back, especially since there seemed to be something special to this dragon.

Yet, he still did not agree with the dragon's idea of simply taking off and flying away with all the injuries he had suffered. "I can see your point. Really, I do, but I just don't think that you trying to fly now, in your condition is going to help anyone." He was still angry at the dragon for being careless, never mind the apparent grateful part which the dragon has now completely blown to bits by growling at Freki, who surprised himself by sticking to his angry emotion and spitting right back at the dragon: "You you you, all I hear is about you! How they are coming after you, how you are going to die, how you are so important! If they actually do come back and kill me for finding me here instead of you, do you really think they're going to let that be? They're going to hunt you anyway, and they will find you to finish the job." Taking a deep breath, the young man tried to avoid staring at the dragon's large fangs that were now showing, and he was gulping hard, but he had a point to make and he wanted it done. On the rare occasion where Freki really did stand up for something or even himself, he did not want to back down now because his fear got the better of him yet again. He might not be completely fair in his judgement, after all, the dragon was trying to maybe prevent him from being killed but he was angry now, which did not happen very often, but once he was angry, it took him quite a while to cool off.

"Thanks for warning me, for ordering me to get out of here, but there is no need for me to hurry. Do you really think that whatever attacked you would be slower than me? Even if I did try to get out of here as quickly as possible, there is no village for miles and miles around. They'd find me and kill me within minutes, so why should I waste my breath to run away if there is not a tiny thing I can change about this situation? They are winged and I don't even have a horse to ride out of here like the devil was behind me." Out of breath, Freki suddenly considered what he had just burst out in his anger and the fatality of it all hit him so hard, he had to sit down. Slumping back against the tree he had bumped in to earlier, he shuddered. There really was not a thing he could do, should those attackers come back. He would be done for. Once and for all. No more Freki after that. All colour left his face and he stared back at the dragon, unable to utter a single other word.

An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Empty
PostSubject: Re: An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen)   An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Icon_minitimeMon Jun 14, 2010 7:08 pm

Silverwing was surprised Freki didn't cower away as he lowered his head back down to ground level again. But then again, maybe he wasn't the cowered he apeared to be. He raised himself back up to normal height again looked over to the sky.
"You don't know what I am, do you?" The question stating what was so special about him made him think for a short while. But then he cleared his mind of it. Guardian dragons worked in secret most of the time, not a lot of people knew what they did and a few even pondered at their existence they were so rarely seen. Guardian dragons, the quiet protectors...the silent knight.

He shook his head and returned his gaze back to Freki. He was right. If anyone or anything did come back now, he would not stand a chance. And neither would he if he didn't set off soon. His sudden outburst of anger didn't really cause Silvewing to change his expression at all, he merely blinked. Humans liked to have random outbursts like that every now and again. He didn't know why.
"We need to get out of here...now. Either try and run, stay, or fly with me." It was extremely rare a human rode on the back of a Guardian dragon, but Silverwing didn't think Freki would appreciate the moment since he didn't exactly know what he was, but that was okay.

"Think about it carefully. this oppertunity doesn't come around very often, and I can't promise you a safe journey. I don't know how I'm going to land, or even if I can. But if you come with me, you must do exactly what I say when we're in the air. If I say jump, you have to jump there and then, otherwise you'll end up in serious danger. Because right now, I don't think I'll be able to land safely."
Freki didn't seem to have a lot of choice, it was either to stay or run and get murdered, or risk his life riding a Guardian. Silverwing's eyes were now sincere. He didn't like repaying those who portray kindness with a lose-lose situation. But it was all he could do.

An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Empty
PostSubject: Re: An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen)   An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Icon_minitimeMon Jun 14, 2010 7:34 pm

Freki contemplated the dragon's exclamations through a haze of his own confused thoughts. Whatever was going to happen in the next few moments would probably decide how he was going to die. It was not necessarily how he'd pictured it, and definitely not so young. When he was a young boy, he'd never dreamt of becoming a big adventurer or a knight in shining armour who would set out to rescue princess after princess, becoming the hero of every damsel in distress. No, he had always been content with what he'd had, he'd only ever needed nature to be happy and there had been plenty of that where he'd grown up. Somehow, lately it seemed though that this peace and quiet was not everlasting. The more Freki wondered about it all and the more he thought about the few things he'd already seen and heard on his little trip, he thought he might never be able to go back to his undisturbed life as a gardener. Yet, it had been his choice to leave everything he knew behind, feeling uncomfortable and unsatisfied, unhappy with what he was doing. Maybe this was his chance to something new?

"I'm sorry," he whispered, looking back at the dragon, who had resumed his sitting position, giving Freki back his space. "I'm just not used to having to choose how I'm going to die. Neither of the options seems very appealing. Though maybe, just maybe, despite your current weakness - and now don't say you're as strong as ever - we might have a chance at survival. Maybe you're right. At least we should try instead of waiting around here. But I'm telling you, if you don't pay attention, at the very least half of the wounds will burst open again and they might take longer to heal than they would now." Without even considering Silverwing's question as to knowing who the dragon was, Freki agreed to coming along. Better to try and not die while flying, rather than staying here and certainly die. "Alright, I will try and do exactly what you tell me, but don't kill me if I fight back when you tell me to jump and we're still sixty feet or whatever in the air. I don't want to commit suicide by jumping off a flying dragon."

Shaking, he stood back up and carefully walked closer to the dragon, unsure of what was about to happen. He had no idea where they were going, what they were going to do, and he knew even less about riding a dragon, having never done it and never seen it done. He told Silverwing all this, the worry and doubt back in his expression and voice, but he tried to be brave. It was not going to be easy, but he would give it his best shot.

PostSubject: Re: An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen)   An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Icon_minitimeTue Jun 15, 2010 7:45 pm

Silverwing merely nodded at his apology, as if he didn't have the energy to answer him with words. But Freki's situation could be understood. Afterall, it wasn't everyday you decided how you were going to die. If he died. There was a slight chance he could get out of here alive, and he hoped so. Not purely for Freki's sake, but for the whole of the isle. For if the human got out, he would. And if he did, then Dragons Cove would be able to get the warning it eeded, the warning it deserved...

"Don't worry, I'll land in water." He shifted his weight slightly. "That way it'll be less-" he paused, he didn't want to say painful, "-it'll be easier. And you'd have more of a chance of surviving." He said the last part lightly, trying not to put the information on Freki's shoulder too much that he might get injured in the process as well. But it couldn't be helped.
"And if you don't jump when I tell you to, I'll throw you off." He grumbled after the human had made his speech. It would be almost impossible for him to do that, considering the state he was in. Normally, it would be hard for someone to stay riding a dragon if they tried to shake them off, but undoubtedly Freki would be the last thing on his mind whilest flying.

As the human aproached him, it was Silverwing's natural instincts to growl, but he held it back. Unless it was his rider, allowing anyone else on his back or this close was normally out of the question. But under these circumstances...
He loweered his belly gently to the floor, un-curling his tail so that it was out in a straight line behind him. still, he had no weight on his back hind leg, but he would worry about that later. He just needed Freki to get on him quickly.

“Very well then, I put myself into your hands, or claws and wings rather.” Freki said, ignoring the dragon’s statement of simply throwing him off, should the young man refuse to do what it told him. The more he thought about this impending adventure, the less he was sure about it being the right thing to do, especially since he didn’t know how sincere the dragon would really be in the end. Then again, if he indeed was some kind of guardian he was probably not going to harm him simply for the sake of it. Such feelings would be beyond him. In addition, dying when at least trying to get away or simply dying, then getting away seemed to be the better option. No matter how he put it, he always came back to the same end. Sighing, Freki cursed his own doubtful mind and his habit of second-guessing everything and everyone when he became insecure or fearful. Though, a completely different question suddenly popped into his head then: “You didn’t even tell me your name!” He was surprised that neither of them had thought of mentioning this fact. “May I enquire as to what it is?”

He observed the dragon uncurling his tail and in general, the being seemed to prepare itself to take the young man on its back and fly away from here. Climbing up looked manageable from where Freki was standing, however, it certainly was easier said than done when it came to actually mounting the creature’s back. Not only had Freki never done any such thing before in his life – he had barely ridden a horse until now – but avoiding all the wounds so as not to cause the dragon even more pain proved to be rather difficult at times. It didn’t help either that Freki was nervous and continuously kept worrying about the outcome of all this. He just hoped that the flight would at least be worth it, but knowing himself, he might get sick along the way. Wherever it was they were headed now. Deep down inside, probably very deep down, Freki was looking forward to seeing new places but fear was the primary emotion at this moment in time. After what seemed like hours to the young man, Freki was finally seated on the dragon’s back, wondering if he sat correctly or what else he was supposed to do and promising himself he would hold on for dear life for the whole of the ride.

~((In other words, I grant you the right to powerplay Freki while he is on Silverwing’s back – that includes throwing him off etc etc Feel free to do whatever is necessary ^-^ And sorry for it being a crappy post!))~

An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Empty
PostSubject: Re: An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen)   An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Icon_minitimeWed Jun 16, 2010 7:49 pm

Ooc;; Haha okay, I'll try not to be too bad, lawl. XD

Bic;;

He heard Freki's question, but didn't answer striaght away. Instead he arched his neck and turned his head to watch the human clamber up his body. He appreciated that fact that he tried to avoid all of his wounds. But obviously, all of the pain couldn't be stopped. Nevertheless, he didn't show it through his face, instead, he breathed slightly heavier. Hoping to take his mind away from it.
Once Freki was on his back, he slowly raised up from his bent knees and reached his normal height taking into account his injuries. Knowing this was going to hurt, he gritted his teeth. But it was the only way he was going to be able to take off.

Putting both his hind legs onto the floor, he raised his two front paws up from the ground and shifted his body backwards. Half rearing. His tail helped to balance him behind as it shifted sideways along the floor.
Within those same few seconds, he outstretched his wings to full length. it was the first time since he had crashed, and naturally, they were stiff. But not a huge amount of damage had been done to them.
They glistened in the sun-light from the great ball of fire that was casting an orangey-glow over the forest. They shimmered a dazzling blue/silver colour, and they were huge - twice the length of his body.

"Silverwing." He said, finally answering the humans question. Before flapping his great wings and taking off into the sky.

It seemed as though it had been a while since he had flown. But he knew his thoughts were mistaken. Since it had been just the other day. Only that flight wasn't enjoyable, But then again, neither was this one. taking off was an effort, and landing would be double that, ad a lot more painful. Plus, he had to ensure the safety of the human on his back - if he could.
His wings beat against the sky and a sudden gust of air blew against his face, but it didn't alter his smooth flight pattern.
Whilst taking off, he had felt Freki's grip on him tighten, but he didn't expect any less.

He knew he had to get higher in the sky if he wanted to cover more ground quicker, and get out of sight of the forest. So initially, he quickly changed his course and increased his speed. His body become less horizontal, and he let out a sharp groan of pain as he felt Freki's foot dig into one of the cuts on his back due to the sudden change of position.
The change of wind speed also slightly knocked him off balance, causing Silverwing's line to alter. His left wing tilted so he could continue to fly straight. His whole body shifted again and he felt Freki's grip tighten.
A few second later, he finally flattened out in the sky and didn't take a note of how high up they were. Hopefully, soon they would be out of sight of the forest and would find a river to land in.

An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Empty

Only a few minutes into the flight, Freki was already feeling sick, as predicted. The take-off itself had already put a strain on his stomach nerves and the knot was still not receding, even though the young man tried to calm himself constantly. At least his breathing was back to normal after the initial shock. He had to admit that the dragon was impressive and the wing span was quite simply enormous in his eyes. It was beautiful to see various colours glint on the wings when the rays of sun struck it while the dragon was doing his best to glide majestically through the sky. Yet, Freki could not bring himself to concentrate on the positive aspects of the flight. He was too scared of falling off and held a death grip on the dragon with hands, arms, feet – his whole body had tensed up when the dragon had lifted itself almost vertically off the floor. The young man barely even remembered the dragon’s name as it had deigned to answer the human’s question at the crucial moment before lifting itself off the ground and Freki had other thoughts on his mind again.

He was not quite sure Silverwing would hear him should he ask a question but he tried nevertheless, shouting over the wind to make sure the dragon might at least notice the human on its back was saying something. “Where are we going?” Out of the forest and out of harm’s way, that was for sure, but Silverwing certainly had a specific idea where to go to since he wanted his message delivered. Freki simply wondered where that was. Seeing that the dragon was smoothly soaring through the air, the young man loosened his grip a little to relieve the strain on his muscles a bit and he finally dared to cast a look around.

The sight was absolutely fantastic! With the slowly descending sun in the sky casting it’s golden light over the island, the tree tops glistened as if they were being bathed in a shower of little sunny sparks. The higher they climbed, the wider the view and Freki gasped as he was suddenly able to see so much more than just the forest they’d just escaped from. Miles and miles of green with distant blue specs once in a while and a little rivulet hardly distinguishable winding its way through the coloury blots of flower beds here and there. Far into the distance, he could see the outline of some major city, though he could not determine which one it was, his sense of geography and his knowledge of Dragon’s Cove not being that developed. “Wow,” he simply breathed. “This is incredible!” Just then, Silverwing shifted in his flight pattern and Freki hastily tightened his grip again, knocking his feet into a wound yet again as he tried to keep his position on the dragon’s back and he realised the knot in his stomach had grown less intense in the past few minutes. It seemed like he might slowly get used to this, not panicking at every turn and he began to trust that Silverwing indeed knew exactly what he was doing.

An Epic Return (Monty X Eldarwen) Empty

Silverwing's ear's pricked as he heard Freki's quiet voice battling against the wind. "Somewhere far from here." He called, keeping his eyes transfixed onto the ground below.
The trees eventually started to thin out, until the greenery could no longer be classed as a forest. But still, no river.
The sun had almost disappeared in the sky, and the trees couldn't be classed as green anymore, they seemed to be glowing orange, along with the grass and river...
River...

"Hold on," he muttered, hoping the human could here him. If not, he would get the message anyway when he started to descend into the sky due to his natural reactions. Slowly, his wings came closer to his body and they became more stream-lined as the width became smaller and the tip became larger. Silverwing's horizontal body gradually tilted forwards and his tail straightened out more. Now for the hard bit.
He gave one last great flap of his wings to accelerate himself downwards out of the sky. The wind against them increased and he had to squint his eyes. His head lowered as he began to estimate how far from the water he was.
Seconds ticked by and the numbers in his head shot down at the speed of light - or so it seemed. Until his diagonal body was just above the tree-tops. Now was the time.

"Jump. Jump into the water." His voice was stern, and he waited for a fraction of a second for Freki to move, but he didn't. "Do it." He was more stern now, his words turning into a growl. Still, the human didn't move quick enough. "Now."
But he couldn't concentrate on the human a second longer, otherwise he wouldn't be able to land correctly.
Hoping he had jumped, Silverwing suddenly spread out his wings to full length and the acceleration came to an abrupt slow down. He lifted his front legs and stretched his hind legs down and forwards.
He was now gliding along, with his back legs skimming the water.
He flapped his wings again to slow him down, but he couldn't move his leg in the right way due to his injury. So suddenly, his whole body tipped forwards and he plunged into the depths of the water.

A cold shudder ran down Freki’s spine when he realised what the dragon was about to do. Enjoying the flight or not, this – to Freki – very abrupt descent towards the earth was not appealing. As he felt the dragon shift its body and its position underneath him, he gripped even tighter than before, not wanting to fall off. He didn’t want to think about the damage he could do to himself if he fell from this height. The tree tops began to creep closer and closer again and he could distinguish the edges of the water very clearly, even that the river was wider and deeper than he’d originally thought from higher up.

Freki blinked. Had he just heard right? Had the dragon just said Jump?? Silverwing must be kidding, right? This is still far too high for a human to land safely, he’s only kidding. But no matter how many times the young man kept telling himself, Silverwing just got more and more energetic when it came to getting the human off of his back. Taking back his previous thought on the dragon knowing what it was doing, Freki frantically tried to steady his grip and not begin sliding around on Silverwing’s back, but it was much easier thought than done, especially now that the dragon seemed to have resolved ignoring whether the human was off or not. The air that kept rushing into his face, making his eyes water, was growing stronger and stronger, still Freki held on, unwilling to jump. As the branches began bashing him and the water suddenly came closer and closer, Freki realised that he could not be squeamish any longer, he had to jump, otherwise an accident might happen and he might be crushed under the dragon or something and that would definitely not do any good to none of the two.

Taking a deep breath, Freki loosened his grip and tried to find a way to manoeuvre past Silverwing’s now outstretched wings so he could jump but before he was able to do so, a rather thick branch knocked him off the dragon’s back, throwing him towards the river. Without any way to change the direction of his fall, he was hoping he would not miss the water, otherwise, Silverwing would not be the only one with a severe injuries.

With a loud SPLASH, he crashed into the river, only a handbreadth from the edge, ripping his side open on a rock. He let out a scream, but his mouth immediately filled with water. Paddling to the surface as quickly as he could, he gasped for air, only to be pushed under again by the aftermath of the wave caused when Silverwing had rocketed into the depths of the river. Finally, Freki’s efforts were answered and he came up for air again, this time remaining above the surface. As he made for the river bank, he found his side was hurting so badly, he had trouble lifting himself out of the water. Lying on his stomach, Freki coughed up water, breathing heavily, completely forgetting about the dragon with the attempt to get rid of all the water he’d swallowed and bring his breathing back to normal.
