Appearance: Syem, for all her relative importance as a Yura, has a diminuitive figure and fragile look about her. Having a gentle yet often mysterious presence, she is difficult to immediately dislike in any sense. Her hair is black, slightly wavy, and exceptionally long, as she is forbidden from cutting it as long as she remains Yura of Turich. Her skin is particularly pale compared to other Turichans, being kept from the sunlight most of the time in her home and with no expectation of menial work from her.
Her face is soft and heart-shaped, with a narrow nose and cat-like dark brown eyes. Having a uniquely placed status amongst her people, she wears many plush furs and seldom wants for anything, often being splendidly accommodated with food, drink, song and company.

Background: Syem lives secluded from others by a bending stream, her home being in the tiny island it creates, that places her exactly in the centre between her associated clans and their villages. While her being Yura is largely due to her being barren, she was also chosen for her diplomatic nature and brilliance as an adviser and confidante. She may not be the leader of any clan, but she is a key spiritual figure to several, and is often lavished with gifts between them in return for her aid.

Included in her duties are interpretations of signs from The Way, the supposed path drawn between stars and their changing patterns between days and years. Frequently in her day to day life she meets with men and women to advise on all sorts of problems, mostly of a personal or spiritual nature. Whatever the case, her words carry more weight than they would elsewhere due to her alleged connection to The Way, by virtue of being the Yura.
Unlike priests in many other regions, her duties are not explicitly connected to dragons, but nevertheless she is expected to maintain knowledge in the dragon tongue and its writing, though this is more supplementary to the roles of the mundane priests of Turichan clans. Another aspect of her life as Yura, in contrast to many other priest-like roles on Dragons' Cove, is using sexuality as a means of divining or healing, or simply expression for its own sake in a way that is revered. Others tend to understand this simply as prostitution, but Turichans would feel spited by such an implication.
On the occasions where Syem leaves her home, she most often travels to meeting points to associate with high priests and important figures of the locality.

While Syem lives a life of luxury compared to others in Turich, there is a strong expectation that she must not resign from her position until The Way has decided it, effectively precluding her from family life or any influence in local politics.

Speech: Soft spoken, uses symbolism in her language, asks more questions about others than she speaks of herself/mostly listens. Very wide vocabulary. Many breaks. (Affable, soothing)
