The Dragon's Blessing

Dragons Cove. The name is unheard of across the continents of the greater world, the island may be large yet it is shrouded in secrecy from the reaches of other shores. The land has been in a blissful peace for as long as anyone can remember, even the five Guardian Dragons; created from pure and powerful magic to maintain the peace and protect the five Power Balancing Stones, would say they cannot even remember a time when the isle was at war.

It is the year 2,709 and for the first time ever, ambitious conquerors have step foot on Dragons Cove, they call themselves the Surahnian Rebels...and their precise intentions and way of even finding the isle remain unknown.
Such is the nature of thousands of years of peace, that when the war-like race of people and their captive Dragons set foot here, the people of Dragons Cove were (and still very much are) like lambs to the slaughter. The shock has resonated with the people; many reckon themselves useless and weak so they run to the lands where it is still “safe”, some feel betrayed that for the first time when they are in true danger, the Guardians have not aided them and the Elite Warriors promised by the Capital of Didienne remain elusive.
The brave few, however, realise if they are to keep their land, the way of war will have to be learnt and only swiftness will save them. Somehow, they will have to turn their pitchforks and hoes into bows, swords and harness the enormous potential of their dormant magi.

Now though, the DDC, the Defenders of Dragons Cove, find themselves with yet another unforeseen challenge. The sudden appearance of the terrifying foe has stirred passionate feelings amongst the people and fervour bubbles throughout the hearts of people.
For the first time ever, there is division in the ideas of the people and the Dragons; the true originators of Dragons Cove.
Some are turning back to the cults of old, (Read: Draco Elitism) many are flocking to the powerful foe, and still others...The ever ominous Maledictus Eice choose the new turmoil as the perfect time to stand up and stake their claim; when they are through, no other soul must live on this sacred island. Only dragons and dragons alike are worthy to walk this ground. Isn’t the appearance of these violent human enemies evidence enough?

This is completely discounting the numerous “minor” rebellions that have surfaced. With the horror of First Blood on the Dragons Cove folk, the Surahnian Rebels championing their own cause, and Maledictus Eice stirring what looks to be a dangerous overturn of the current “way of things” Dragons Cove has been staged to lose any preface it had of being peaceful and serene.

All the while, on a Lord’s fine dining table, within the outlawed town of Kaionar...there stands a beautiful antiquity, a tablet with a coarse and rigid inscription. It is valuable, but it is powerless, so say the dealers.
But then, the Guardians said that Dragons Cove would never know of a war.

Nations, Factions and other Groupings

This list gives a (very) brief overview of the "Big 3" organizations within Dragons Cove. If you ever want more information on these, simply make a request. Minor religions/groupings have also been posted here.

******NOTE******
After having a read through, you are welcome to immediately have a character affiliated with ANY of these groups.
You are also allowed to have your character's history as a born and bred Dragons Cove resident, so "travelling" to the island isn't necessary.

Defenders of Dragons Cove (DDC)

The DDC as they are known, represent the nation that has ruled Dragons Cove for thousands of years in a sublime yet hazy peace. They are a unification of three royal families (representative of each city in Dragons Cove) higher ranked still are the members of the high council alongside the Guardian dragons (GDs). The council and the GDs run the nation with the royalty serving for traditions sake.Their territory is the most expansive, however they do not hold the entire island. Those who do not support them but are peaceful about it, have been left alone. The DDC show no further interests of expansion. The DDC value a pacifistic view and are tolerant of all races. While this makes them peaceful, with the absense of any threat for so many years, how strong they hold their cause is questionable.

The makeup:
+ Strong magi (only passive, for now)
+ Diplomatic
+ Prosperous, natural artisans
+ Unapplied Forces (Although trained, not tried)
+ A spread of views internally

The Surahnian Rebellion (SR)

The Surahnian Rebels were originally a rallied force of displaced soldiers, war veterans and peasants that with the loss of their homeland were forced to seek refuge elsewhere and were fighting to free themselves from opposing nation, Lahruka's control. They are under the lead of Zartear Straten, originally a high ranking slayer. However their focus changed and they traveled to Dragons Cove, to become the first invaders ever known there.
The Surahnian Rebels have a sovreign ruling that is connected explicitly to bloodline and competence. In part because of their "noble" bloodline and in part because of their new status as an independent force, they are warlike and fanatically loyal; a surahnian always has a firm grip on "who" they are. Typically this Rising country is ruled with great efficiency but also with a strong emphasis on discipline of others and self and also bettering living conditions. If there is a main weakpoint of the SR, it is their ineptitude for magic, with only basic skills within it that cannot hold a candle to the dormant potential of DDC magi, should they choose to turn to combat.

The makeup:
+ Strong infantry force
+ Poor Magi
+ Large values placed on discipline and loyalty
+ Narrow range of beliefs, varying tolerance
+ Well organized
+ Ambitious

Maledictus Eice (ME)

The main component of Maledictus Eice is a deep rooted resentment to the settling races on Dragons Cove. As Dragons being the true natives of Dragons Cove they view the meddling of other races as harmful and petty, often referring to them as a "curse" and so they wish to eliminate them entirely. Maledictus take a radical approach with their cause and regularly raid, destroy and kill all relating to non-dragons. These deeds have seen them as a rising power and real threat now, the words "Maledictus Eice" are often uttered with great fear. However, they may spare those that make the promise to leave and never return.Currently they are lead by two Clubtail dragon sisters, Anækileya and Vythiweiah. Upon initiation, a dragon must display their loyalty to the cause by killing a non dragon as a sacrifice, if the dragon has a rider then they become the first choice. Little else is known about ME at this time.

The makeup:
+ Entirely dragonic (very potent power)
+ Completely Intolerant
+ Bloodthirsty
+ Often lacking composure
+ Swift and decisive as a whole
+ Ambitious

Minor Groupings of Dragons Cove

Healer Triad Worship

Healer Triad worshippers are also known simply as "Healers" much to the confusion of foreigners to the religion. They are most prevalent in the desert regions and to the north west jungle areas.
As the name suggests, these people worship the 3 most famous kinds of dragons frequently associated with "Healing"
The tear dragon, the euphorn and the lifeblood. These dragons are seen as spiritual beings sent from the one great god (Of whom they do not speak of; they believe it is bad to speak of him because of his loftiness) and hence their only interaction is through these 3 breeds of dragons.
The Lifebloods are believed to be behind the life force of living creatures (such as humans!)
The Tear dragons are believed to be the sources of weather patterns and most importantly: water.
The Euphorns are believed to be associated with the day and night cycles.

As a whole, people that worship the Healer Triad are pacifistic, the less they burden the land and the people with wounds, the more powerful their "gods" will become.
Be careful if you happen to be a Euphorn/Lifeblood/Tear dragon though! While you will be revered travelling in these parts (Caspan, nomadic desert tribes, parts of Yarrowitz and Golam) you'll find that people will often be wanting to quite literally take a piece of you for good luck. Most often your feathers.
There have also been instances of hatchlings being stolen to be kept and raised to bring good luck to a village.
They are also quite well known for their bizarre rituals, though not practiced by all believers.
Such things as painting themselves in pigs blood while "divining the three" with an accompanying dance (when naked) performed within a triangle formation. There are other customs such as the 3 days of abstinence. One day of no work, one day of no water and finally a days worth of work performed at night. This too, allegedly will strengthen their dragon-gods through them not requiring their powers over the three day period.

Blood Dragon Elitism

Members of the Cult of Dragon Elitism are an awful rumour on the lips of people, and with good reason.
Their reputation precedes them, they are some of the very, very few people native to dragons cove that have any knowledge of battle and blood magic. Their numbers are miniscule small, in the past, the Guardian Dragons have often set out to confine this cult as they are anything but dead in the water.
However, their supreme worship of the Tribal Battle Blood as the "Lord and Master over all dragons, Lord and Master over all that breathes" means they are difficult to eradicate; these people are bloodthirsty, talented in their magic and famously elusive. Their numbers have always been kept low enough so that any attempts to break out of their home north of the Volcane belt have ultimately failed. Though there have been records of Blood Dragon Elitists infiltrating the Elites of the D.D.C successfully for a time.

The religion itself puts all dragons above all that is not dragon, and the more violent the dragon, the more desirable/higher in the hierarchy it is. Hence, its members aim to become like their one ultimate figure of worship, the Tribal Battle Blood.
Human sacrifices are supposedly commonplace, runic markings are engraved into their bodies, supposedly to "fill" the person with the the spirit of a TBB, that they then will come back to life as a hybrid. Results have varied.
Sacrifices aside, members are encouraged to always practice their fighting upon eachother.
They are a difficult people to connect with and some believe that behind the blood soaked rituals, they are misunderstood.

Guardian Dragon Elitism

An idea that has always been quite popular among the people of Dragons Cove, its roots have been around since the arrival of the settlers on Dragons Cove. This, like Blood Dragon Elitism, puts dragons on a pedestal, however this is only for the 5 Guardian Dragons, ordinary dragons are not deified. They are far more peaceful and promote harmony toward others and approaching things diplomatically...Whether or not Guardian Dragon Elitism (sometimes referred to simply as Dragon Elitism) came before Blood Dragon Elitism is unknown and often widely disputed.

This religion is held among a wide many people, though mostly in the far eastern towns/villages such as Turich and Tarz, even Jiluria.
It is rare to find this belief in the west.

The Amellian Tribe

A people that have lived much like the Turichans; closed off from whatever happens to be outside their village turf.
After they persistently rejected for trade with the DDC they have been pretty much left alone, though reside in its territory. So, for the few travellers that make it to the Amellian tribe...it's quite a different culture in itself.
The people typically all dress in white robes and cloths, have their own set of beliefs, often putting Humans and other two-legs above dragons; believing that the settlers were summoned to Dragons Cove by a greater power to tame the wild lands. They as such believe humans are symbols of peace.
Because of their dim view of dragons it is suspected that the disappearances of dragons getting too close to the village is due to these people allegedly killing them.

They go about their day to day life plainly and are well acquainted with their beautiful homeland. Not much else is known about the people and it is an usually rare event to see even one of them.
