Come one, come all!
Rejoice in the splendour that will be my pleasure to offer.
Music and refreshments will be at your disposal.
Dress in black and red, in honour of passion and night.

And of course, entry will be refused to anyone not adhering to the dresscode. Who came up with these ghastly invitations every time? Though the question many others will ask themselves is how he always got his hands on one. It was a well-founded question though. ‘In honour of passion and night’ – was this a feast or was this an orgy? Honestly, invitations like these were only asking for scandal!
And where there was a scandal, Del’ure was not far.

So it was that Del’ure had made his way to said party, dressed all in black with a shirt that had a thin bloodred rim, only barely visible but enough to hint at the colour and a darkred rose stuck into the pocket of his vest. A black hat completed the outfit and he was rather pleased with the way it made him slink away into the shadows, or attract very open stares from the ladies. Apparently they liked a well-trained man in black whose clothes were tight enough to show off some muscles and a nice ass but weren’t so tight as to scream ‘I’m trying too hard!’ at every one who cared to listen, or rather look. It was perfect, but then, he usually was; that wasn’t even an exaggeration.

The party in and of itself really presented quite exquisite entertainment. Del’ure couldn’t remember what the host was called, but he had outdone himself. The music was good and enticed quite a few people to dance, but at the same time, it drifted enough into the background so as not to disrupt the general chatter and ongoings of the party. An enormous food buffet was erected to the right side of the wall of the grand ballroom, with the band positioned at the farside and huge windows leading to the outdoors to the left. Whoever had built the mansion had known how to create a formidable space here.

Del’ure mingled, scouting the premises for possible prey – material or otherwise – and generally enjoyed himself quite a bit. The food was truly excellent and he made sure his glass of sweet wine was never empty either, though he barely touched the liquid for more than a few sips here and there. This was going to be a fantastic night, he could already be sure of that. There was quite a lot of potential here and the dresscode made for a theme that could not be described any way other than ‘daring’. Some of the woman had outdone themselves and shone in exciting red or black dresses, adorned with the most magnificent and expensive jewellery, and he couldn’t help but let his eyes wander more than he had initially planned. The sights were too good to pass by, even if his nonchalant behaviour earned him quite a few glares from some of the men in the room, but alas, he was used to it. Men did not take to him well. He was far too much competition for them, and sometimes competition they could not even hope to outshine.

This was truly going to be a good night.

Great. Just great. Her first bounty after the big move and she had to curl her hair and put on a dress! Being a small elf with long hair didn't especially help her case in staying incognito, then again it was her eyes and her death pale skin that usually got her the strangest looks. She had cuffs and a small variety of gold in her ears, saved strictly for occasions such as this, and she'd had to go out and find a dress suitable for something more than just a funeral. Sadly, or fortunately depending on the point of view, she didn't have much of a figure to speak of. This was, of course, her own opinion and the opinion of the women around her, most of the men had other ideas on the matter. It was really a rather simple dress in red wine velvet, she'd gone for ease of movement and practicality, but she wished she'd posed as a maid instead of going as a party guest.

No sense in complaining now that she'd donned the dress and styled her hair for the event. She'd also put on this intricate looking gold necklace that jangled slightly at every step she took. Time to find her target, likely they were among the wait staff, but there wasn't any hint to this person's gender or their social status. A daunting task unlike any she'd received in her career. On top of that she'd just run into someone, and she smiled trying to brush it off. Someone she didn't know in the least, his name was Del'ure she'd soon find out, but it was still embarrassing. "Excuse me, I've never been to an event quite like this, at least. . .not for quite some time. It's a little daunting and the invitation was rather risque." Time to turn on the charm, maybe it'd get her a lead on this person she was supposed to bring back. Having a southern drawl sounded so weird when she listened to herself talk!

She took a moment or two, likely much longer, to survey the man in front of her. It'd be a bold-faced lie if she were to say she didn't like what she saw, but then again. . .something about him was off-putting. Maybe it was the fact he had cat eyes, or that he was built like a god. 'Never in all my years have I seen a man quite like him, if that's really what he is.' Nonetheless he looked like the picture of physical perfection, and it was enough to make her blush a pretty shade of pink. Maybe running into him wasn't so embarrassing after all. . .No it was still embarrassing, but it was worth it considering the view she had.

The necklace dangled in a particularly interesting fashion and Del’ure had a hard time averting his eyes from a particular area where the accessory dangled before he stated, completely suave as though he had never stared: “That is quite an interesting colour dress you have. Accurately matching the risque invitation, as you so rightly say. I have to admit, I agree, though I cannot say I mind.”

Del’ure flashed her one of his disarming smiles before turning all gentleman and offering her his arm. “For the inconvenience of interrupting your path, may I escort you to the bar and get you a drink?” Never mind the fact that a waiter was nearby and could have been hailed as well. This was so much more fun. Of course, the one-over she had given him hadn’t escaped his attention. So where was the harm in a little play? Especially since it was quite possible that she had bumped into him on purpose. That tactics was just as old as the book, after all.

“Now really, what do you think of this party? Risque yes, but a young woman such as yourself would certainly be able to enjoy herself at such an event? Not to mention in such an establishment. Have you seen the terraces yet?” Mentally, Del’ure warned himself to reign in the charm a little, if he wanted to keep her by his side for a while longer. If she didn’t turn out who he might like her to be then at least she was a good cover for keeping tabs on everyone else in the room and so far he hadn’t been outside yet.

His question had barely left his lips when a tall, slim woman sauntered past in a dress that could barely be described as a dress. Skintight and lacking quite a lot of material, well, everywhere, she did look stunning, but Del’ure couldn’t help but wonder what on earth she had thought wearing that. Looking at his companion with a slightly raised eyebrow, he grinned. “My name is Del’ure. What may I call you, my Lady?”

"My name is Ax-...er, Rose. Rose Axelheim." She blushed darker and played it off as getting tongue tied, but couldn't avoid noticing the scantly dressed woman that strutted past. The old-woman-look-of-disapproval couldn't be held back and she snorted. "It used to be a woman wore a dress to events like this." She smiled and shook her head with a laugh at her own words. "I must sound like a cranky old woman, please forgive me." She considered his questions and shook her head naively. "It's been some time since I visited this magnificent city, and the last time I was here this building was still being built. It's turned into a spectacular work of architecture. I'm a bit out of my element among so many people, but it's great fun to get out and socialize! Especially when the first person I run into is someone as polite as you. I'm sorry for running into you, I'm not typically so clumsy."

She surveyed the fine glasses in which the drinks were served and in one fluid motion lifted a glass of brandy from the table. "I should be so lucky to have an escort like you, Del'ure. Are you enjoying yourself tonight?" One glass of spirits was enough to get her feeling more at ease, and she glanced around before looking at her company. "I fear I'm not very exciting, I don't get out much." She was only boring when she wasn't out working, in her opinion. Being a bounty hunter was what kept her sane, and in shape. The dress was doing a fabulous job of hiding her concealed weapons, daggers, but as for her physique...not so much. She finished her drink and observed the people around her dressed so richly, it was unnerving.

“Oh, no bother at all,” Del’ure waved away her apology for bumping into him. “If it results in a charming woman on my arm, I wouldn’t mind being bumped into more often.” The subtle undertone left a lot to the imagination but Del’ure was already sweeping her away and towards the bar so as not to linger on his comment.

“Interesting choice of beverage,” he said. “I see you have a taste for the potent intoxicants.” Subtext was always a thing for Del’ure and he loved reading the faces of people when he did use them. It was a fascinating thing indeed.
Lifting his glass for a chink with hers, he bowed his head lightly. “It is my pleasure to meet you and my honour to escort you, Rose. And may I just say, you look ravishing, my dear.” He didn’t further comment on her evaluation of herself, there was no need to. A gentleman doesn’t comment unless it is to contradict and he was playing the role of the gentleman that evening, if not completely, if some of his looks or comments were anything to go by.

“Ah, yes, I am perfectly enjoying myself. Could you imagine a better place to watch people and see how they embarrass themselves by dressing contrary to their age,” the little jest at her earlier statement, “and by showing off their precious jewels as though they were the most important thing. An event such as this one always makes my spirits soar. It’s great fun, I assure you. You will quickly realise that again once you get back into the swing of socialising.” And he was sure she would. Already she was looking at the crowd quite a lot.

Lightly taking the brandy glass off of her hands, he replaced it with a new full one, and consequently began to lead her towards the open windows. “Allow me,” he said, waving a hand towards the terrace as he proceeded to move his other arm to her back, after he had untangled her arm from his, lightly pushing her as if to release her onto the terrace. “Enjoy the view.”

She took her time in observing the view from the terrace and just as smoothly pulled away from the rail to stand in front of Del'ure again. "While I enjoy seeing the city, there are far more attractive sights to be seen. Most of which do not require stepping into the cold. One of those precious few would be you. Flattery aside," she took a small step forward and looked at him seriously, her voice soft. "I'd be very grateful if you could assist me with something, it's my top priority and the main reason I'm here. I've been asked to bring in a dangerous, mentally-unstable person; I've been told they're in attendance tonight. It's safe to assume the person in question is a woman given that the name is feminine and there's a rumor that the man who hired me has an ex-wife who's not all there."

Of course nothing helpful ever came without a price, so she was more than ready with a list of possible incentives if he didn't provide any. "Please, I could really use the help." If she didn't get this done, she'd have a stain on her reputation and a big dent in her pride. "I feel really bad about asking you to do this for nothing, in return for helping me what do you want?"

Del’ure could barely hold in his surprise when Rose suddenly stepped up to him and paid him a compliment. He may have partially been working towards it but he had not expected it to be this... soon or quite in this fashion and instantly he couldn’t help but wonder if there wasn’t a catch. And merely a few words later, he got proof that this was indeed true.

However, the request she stated was an odd one, and not quite what he had thought. Of course, appearances were never everything to go by, he lived by that simple rule himself, but he was still a little surprised to hear she was supposed to bring someone in. Before she stated it was a woman she was looking for, he had a brief moment where his expression darkened where he thought she might actually be referring to him but when she said it was a woman, a grin spread across his face. Not because he was relieved that it wasn’t him – he didn’t much care about that fact, certain that one way or another he would have been able to slip from her grasp again – but what she was asking him was going to be a kid’s play for him. If he agreed to it.

“So you’re what? His personal guard-dog? Or, dare I say it, a bountyhunter? You’re playing a dangerous game if you want to take people in from a place such as this and even more so with asking people you’ve only just met to help you on such a mission. Who is to say that I’m not her new guard-dog?”
Winking at her, he continued: “But all jokes aside,” – his tone stated the exact opposite almost – “what are you willing to offer in return for my help?” She wanted to know what he wanted, well he wasn’t going to make it easy for her by simply replying to her question.

"The name I use in my trade is Axel, and yes I'm a bounty hunter." When he asked what he'd get in return she paused and thought it over for all of a nanosecond. "Danger is a relevant term to me; I've survived sea serpents, houses that suck the air from your lungs, and some of the most hellish company in history. Asking a complete stranger for assistance isn't new to me, not to say it's always worked out they way I hoped. We split the reward 70/30, anything else you can think of is open to negotiation, provided this all gets written down somewhere; that way you get what you want and so do I." She heard the music speed up and remembered exactly where they were, a social event. "I'll let you think it over. When you have your conditions ready I'll be waiting at the bar." He had used the word 'if' implying he wasn't likely to agree, so she assumed she'd be on her own with this one.

Now and then she glanced about, seeing if she recognized anyone, but made no effort to mingle and make acquaintances just yet. Somehow it all looked like something she'd want to get involved in, being social, but by nature she didn't like being tied to these situations much like being tied to a single house or an overbearing husband. 'While I understand this environment, it's not something I'll ever be a part of on a permanent basis.' Out of the corner of her eyes she thought she saw the woman who was wearing the dress missing too much fabric, but brushed it off as paranoia and faced forward again. "I wonder if he'll actually agree." she muttered finishing her third drink.

Del’ure had taken his distance, as she had wished, in order to consider the terms of this negotiation. She must be crazy to think he would set his signature on any piece of document. If there was a deal, it would be handled his way and either she accepted that or she was going to be on her own, or find some other poor sucker willing to help her.

The truth of the matter was however that he was rather bored and could use a challenge, even if charming a woman into a more secluded spot so Rose could get at her without an audience wasn’t really a challenge for him. Seemed like he was going to have to come up with some sort of condition however to make this a little more interesting. And to make her squirm a little if it was humanly possible.

Without announcing his arrival, Del’ure suddenly leaned against the bar next to Rose, playing with a strand of her hair. “We’re doing this my way. No paper, no signature. Just your word and my word. Don’t worry, I am not going to run out of the deal and even if you were, there is nothing for you to lose. If you run off, I will find you. The deal is 60/40 or it isn’t a deal at all. The only reason I’m not pushing for 50/50 is because you seem to know your trade and I can respect that.” He let the strand of hair fall down, trailing his finger slowly over her shoulder and down her side towards her lower back and leaned in closer, without ever stopping to talk. “I will let you know what my payment is for the 10% once I have decided what would be most suitable for a woman such as yourself.”

Either she took or she left it. He wasn’t going to put all his cards on the table and he was fairly sure she still had an ace up her sleeve as well. Two could play at this game, and he knew that better than anyone. “Now, if you truly want my help, I need details on the woman.”

"So you've been around long enough to know how to negotiate, makes me question your age." She didn't pay any heed to where his hand was, it didn't matter to her since he wasn't trying to get any closer. "I never mentioned a signature but fair enough, we do this your way. She's got average features with curly chestnut colored hair, hazel eyes. Not very tall, not as short as me, she has tan skin and when she smiles it makes you think she wants to kill you. That's not how I'd describe her based on the impression of her painting, but it's how her ex described her." She paused to look at him and smiled. "I would however prefer for you to move your hand so that it doesn't look suspicious. Let's make this more fun and turn it into a game, hm? Can't be frowning at an event like this it'll attract unwanted attention. Also, you can walk away from this anytime, I won't force you to help me."

How did she think a document worked if there was no signature? But by all means, let her believe what she wanted to believe. And he was most certainly not going to give her an answer as far as his age was concerned. Better to keep people guessing, especially when they seemed to think themselves superior like this. It was an aspect of her he hadn’t quite seen coming and he was sighing inwardly at it though he kept the facade on the outside.

“Hmmm,” he murmured as she described the woman. While she was talking, he leaned against the bar with his back, both elbows propping him up for a comfortable and nonchalant posture. His eyes were on the room, looking for someone fitting her description. “An ex’ description is never accurate of the woman he used to love and has lost,” he said absent-mindedly as he kept his eyes on the many woman parading before him. Now he was definitely in his element after the small break due to the conversation with Rose.

“Tell me, why exactly is he sending a woman after a woman?” His hand was slowly moving towards hers to lightly grazy over her fingers. She wanted this to be a game, right? Well, she would get her game. His eyes briefly searched for hers with an amused glint as she interrupted his observations. “I don’t walk away once I have accepted a deal,” he said before turning his attention back on the crowd. “Guest or staff? And what kind of fun did you have in mind?” His eyes searched her face again briefly before they returned to a rather mouthwatering dress he had just spied.

"Being a bounty hunter is the most fun I've had in decades. Only trouble is it's usually a man's profession, so I made a name for myself and hid my gender. Not to say I'm unhappy being a woman, but with my career choice it doesn't do to be refused work based on that one little fact. Who knows why he decided to hire me, all I know is he did and he's paying me pretty good for it." She scanned the area and took note of about five or so women that were a close match. "Guest, definitely. There's a pretty heavy rumor going around that she's wanted for murder, so I guess gender wasn't a huge factor so long as she wasn't permitted to roam. I wasn't told whether I had to bring her in dead or alive, so we'll have to see about that." Soon she began trimming away at the similarities in each of the women she noted and sighed.

"Down to two women, just a matter of body language." Of course she couldn't be blamed for letting her eyes wander now and then to something more interesting than the woman she was looking for. 'Every girl's crazy 'bout a sharp-dressed man.' she thought cynically. Not exactly difficult to understand why, and it was just as easy to say the same thing about men liking a well-dressed woman. "Shall we get a closer look...?" she inquired hesitantly. If this went over well she'd owe this man quite a bit for his help, but so long as everything got done properly and smoothly she wouldn't let it affect her. Not much at least.

‘Aha,’ Del’ure thought as she backpedaled away from the obviously different sort of fun that had been implied, but he let it slip without commenting on it, especially since he couldn’t deny that this sort of job was fun indeed. Most of the time at least.

“Mmhh, I think I may have the same two in mind. Dance floor,” Del’ure said briefly as his eyes roamed around the ballroom once more to make sure he hadn’t missed someone. “A closer look would definitely be in order right about now, yes.” Del’ure lifted his fingers away from her hand and turned it around, offering it to her instead to take. “Shall we dance, my lady?”

It would be the best way to get a closer look and the most inconspicuous too. What is another couple on the dance floor? They wouldn’t attract any unnecessary attention if they drew circles around the women they wanted to keep an eye on rather than staying at the outskirts and merely observing. Jumping into the fray, that was the way to go!

Once Rose had accepted his hand, he lead her to the dance floor and instantly pulled her into the dancing couples as though it was the most natural thing in the world. As crowded as the ballroom was starting to be, there was more breathing space here than he had imagined at first, but was only going to make their task all the easier.

She felt as though the wind was pulled from her lungs when she stepped into the rhythm of the somewhat complicated dance. "I suppose we shall." Rose's reply sounded dazed and delayed as she'd been simply overwhelmed by everyone being so close and moving so quickly. "Now I remember why I was never social, too much excitement for me." Finally she decided which woman was her mark and nudged Del'ure's shoulder. "The lady in the...I'm not quite sure what call what she's wearing to be honest, but she's the one." Shaking wasn't something she aimed to do at every social gathering she attended, but this was the first time in many many years that she'd decided to dance. "My old bones aren't taking this too kindly." she joked as she struggled slightly to keep pace. It didn't help that she wasn't exactly familiar with these new modern dances, darn youth always having to have something new to amuse themselves with! Out of the corner of her eye she noticed something suspicious about the woman she'd been studying and paused half a beat to see what she was doing. "That's our lady, I'm sure of it." Before anything else could be done she vanished into the crowd and Rose muttered a curse. This wasn't going to be a simple capture after all.

“Nonsense!” Del’ure waved away Rose’s worried, if joking, comment. “You’re doing splendidly!” And they were doing rather well indeed for so far they had managed to avoid too many extreme collisions with any of the other couples on the dancefloor. Mostly those happened anyway because they had their eyes elsewhere, because Del’ure was actually a rather good dancer and there really was quite a bit more space than Rose seemed to think, or maybe she just didn’t like crowded spaces – understandable for a bounty hunter.

“Ah, yes, I see which one you mean. Interesting choice of... clothing material,” he finally finished his sentence after a moments’ hesitation. He continued whirling them about in time with the music but before long, they had to come up with a different plan as he felt Rose tense and heard her swearing.

“My lady, may I suggest some refreshments? I have to admit that I am rather out of practice with dancing and would be in need of a cold beverage.” The fact that they had slowed their dance had not escaped the notice of some of the other couples – obviously – thus Del’ure tried to overplay the real reason why they had stopped. “This way, my lady,” Del’ure suggested, trying to keep track of the rapidly disappearing woman, before leading Rose off the dancefloor towards where their target had disappeared off to.

In order to keep up pretenses in case anyone was listening or even observing them, Del’ure snatched two glasses of a passing tray and handed one to Rose, the other he kept for himself. “I know it’s not your favourite, but it will do, won’t it?”
Casting a careful glance around, he looked back at Rose after a while. “Any clue where she ran off to? I have lost her.” Considering that this was not his job in the first place, but he merely agreed to help – in exchange for a reward, that goes without saying – Del’ure was enjoying himself not just a little. At least, now this party was exciting! More so than he had hoped it would be.

"Got to hand it to her, she's quick on her feet." Rose glanced around for a moment and her ears seemed to move in response to the sounds around her. "There's only one actual exit she could have used, there'd be a panic if she jumped off the balcony." She sipped her drink a moment longer and set the empty glass down. "Shall we be off? It appears to be getting rather late." 'Looks like we're tracking her in the city now, not just a party.' she thought bitterly. "She's likely left by now, we'll have to resort to more drastic methods of tracking." Being small did have "some" advantages, weaving through people was far easier for her than it likely was for the woman she was after. After a glance back to make sure she wasn't leaving alone, she kept going. "A curse on dresses and skirts alike, they're impossible to move in." If only she'd had the sense to wear proper trousers under what she had on, there would be on qualms on tearing off the lower half of it to break into a sprint. This was exactly why the petite elf owned next to nothing but shirts and trousers: it was practical. Upon getting out in to the open, Rose was a bit stunned and took a second to get her bearings. In of the edge of her peripheral vision something started moving away to the right. "This way. You okay with horseback?"

One of the waiters seemed to keep a rather closer eye on Rose and him then Del’ure would have liked, so when Rose asked if they should leave, he made a big show of agreeing and plastering a satisfied smile onto his face. As they passed the waiter on their way out, he winked at him. The meaning would not have been lost on any guy and the waiter raised a surprised eyebrow before nodding with a grin.

That taken care of, Del’ure turned his attention back to Rose. “I think you might have a tail or two, but I’m not sure.” His attention was back on the crowd surrounding them and he almost missed Rose’s comment. With a chuckle, he replied: “It all comes down to the fit of the dress, my dear.” Anything that showed off curves in intricate detail was easy to move around in as there quite simply wasn’t enough material to slog around whenever a step was taken.

“Horseback is fine by me,” Del’ure replied. “As a matter of fact, I’m rather a fan of riding.” He let the double entendre of his reply sit for a bit before squinting his eyes in the direction Rose was staring into. “Did you see her?” All the while, he kept his hand on her lower back just to make sure impressions were still upheld in case anyone was watching them. After all, he was going to get his with this one, or that was what observers were supposed to think. Who knows, maybe he would get lucky. Letting his eyes quickly stray away from the task at hand and down Rose’s back, he grinned. He definitely wouldn’t mind a ride.

“I’ve actually got a horse. Somewhere,” he muttered as he looked around for the valet who had taken the reins off of him when he had arrived. Already the boy was hurrying along the pathway that lead to the stables with two horses behind him. “I assume that must be yours?” Del’ure said as he inspected the second horse.

"Indeed! A fearless beast!" she replied with a genuine smile. "Been through several dangerous adventures with him and he's survived without much incident." There was no hesitation in her movements as Rose swung herself into the saddle as she had done hundreds of times before. "As for the woman, I think so. To Hades with anyone stupid enough to tail me, they won't last long." There was a dangerous smirk coupled with that statement, and she had the means and motivation to back up her words. She started off at a canter and took off her jewelry to put it in the saddlebag, it was no longer necessary. "Best to be quiet as possible." The next few minutes were spent searching down alleyways and feeling more and more embarrassed that she might've gone the wrong way to start with. Out of the blue, her target took off on horseback from the shadows and headed toward one of the city gates. "If she gets out of the city that'll make this a bigger challenge!" A challenge she wasn't prepared to face at this point, and wasn't sure she'd be able to handle it alone. Asking Del'ure to travel with her all over the island to track one person was entirely out of the question. . .for now.

Uuuh, feisty! He liked it. There was something very appealing about a woman who could handle herself and wasn’t afraid to actually make use of that knowledge as well,e ven more so when the statement was accompanied by an expression such as hers. With a grin, Del’ure followed suit and swung himself up into the saddle as well, the dapplegrey dancing beneath him, eager to be off again.

Since he hadn’t seen the woman take off earlier, the blur had been gone too quickly for him to notice as he had been staring in a different direction than Rose to cover as much ground as possible when they came out of the building, so he didn’t know what kind of horse to look for either. Of course, the lighting was starting to be pretty dim in the meantime, but the shape of the horse might have revealed something.

When she suddenly shot out, he gave Rose a heads up. Steering off into a different direction, he opted for the longer way around and headed to another gate, while he left Rose to her own devices. His grey was fast, and he was counting on the dead run they’d be able to engage in once they were out of the city confines. The plan was to cut the woman off just before she reached the gate so that they could corner her. It was an entirely different matter whether they were going to succeed, because already from what he could see he noticed that the woman’s horse was rather quite fast...

Rose managed to keep pace with the lady, but it appeared no matter how close she thought she was getting, it wasn't making much difference. By the time she got to the gate, the woman was already halfway out of sight and she swore under her breath. "Women are so difficult..." She looked around for Del and shook her head. "Guess we take off after her in the morning, hm? No sense in trying to follow her at night when we're most likely to get lost." She had bad experiences with wandering in the woods at night, and nearly had her foot bitten off to boot. "Now there's a handful of questions: do we go ahead and pursue her or do we wait till morning and pick up her trail, if we wait where should we stay for the night?" Past experiences told her not to ask him, but she figured she knew the answer: wait. "There's also no point in running the horses ragged and risking them getting injured. I'm sure you won't mind waiting a short while, will you?" A fresh start would do them good anyway, they both had alcohol in their systems and would be in need of sleep soon.

He would be too late, he could already see it. He wasn’t going to make it and it was annoying him. Del’ure urged his horse into an even quicker pace but it was already at a full racing gallop and there was nothing else to get out of it. Plus, he didn’t want to ruin his horse either, there was no use running it into the ground because of some woman they would sooner or later find again anyway. When he realised that he had just considered this to be his job as well, he reined in his horse. This was not his job, it was not his worry. The woman was gone and he wasn’t going to make a big deal out of it. It was Rose’s job. Rose could worry about this herself; he had done his part of the deal. Now to come up with a payment... Though maybe he was just going to wait with that until some other time when he actually might need a hand with something.

“Nah, we wouldn’t get lost, but we’d definitely lose her trail,” Del’ure countered thoughtfully, as he pondered how and where they should spend the night. Forgotten where the thoughts of letting Rose deal with this on her own. She mentioned spending the night somewhere, and he was instantly game again, though of course he also knew that she was most likely not going to cough up what she had been insinuating at some point earlier that evening.

“If you don’t have a place to stay yet, I’ll offer you my bed. I found a lovely little inn not too far off from here actually. I will sleep on the floor, don’t worry,” he added quickly to make sure she didn’t get any wrong ideas. As little as he minded sleeping with random women, he was a gentleman too, and he thought he had shown that side of himself enough that evening that she could believe him. Plus, hadn’t she herself made it perfectly clear that she knew how to handle herself? She had nothing to fear.

“The innkeeper’s wife is a very pleasant woman as well and I’m sure she wouldn’t mind preparing us some food to take on the road with us as well. Rested and fed will be the best way to start this adventure.”

"You wouldn't be the first to share a bed with me. Literally, I've shared sleeping quarters with any number of traveling companions." 'Never got close to any of them.' she thought to herself. The next morning was met with initial displeasure as the drinking from the previous night caught up to Rose in the form of a consistently annoying urge to vomit. There wasn't any way in the world she'd let it happen, but the feeling was there nonetheless. After fully waking up and finding her saddle bag on the floor, nothing missing thankfully, she decided now would be a good idea to change clothes. A short time later her hangover was nothing compared to the horrors of tying a waist cinch properly. Sometimes being a woman was just too much to bother with! Now unfortunately couldn't be one of those times as she had a job to do and tucking her shirt in didn't tend to work unless she had something else hold it in place. 'Guess I should go find Del'ure now. . .Gotta catch that infernal devil woman today.' That beside said she made her way downstairs to look for him. "Ready to hit the road?"

Del’ure raised an eyebrow at Rose’s comment but didn’t reply, for once not really sure what to even say. The statement had been thrown out there in a sort of defiant manner and he wasn’t sure whether that meant she actually wanted him in her bed or not, but either way it did the trick for him not to feel like he wanted to get under the same covers with her that evening. As much as he liked his birds to fly into his mouth, he did prefer a challenge.

Once he had heard Rose stir into a sort of waking state, Del’ure had made his way out of the room to leave her to her own devices. There hadn’t been any more rooms available but since Del’ure had never actually checked out of his own, it had luckily still been ready and waiting for him, or in this case, them.

Already having dealt with food organisation for the road, Del’ure looked up from his plate of eggs and bacon when Rose appeared next to him. “Have breakfast first,” he suggested, though making it sound like an order almost. Waving the innkeeper’s wife over, he kindly asked her to bring over an extra large cup of tea and another plate of the fried stuff for his hungover ladyfriend. With a smile, the woman did as she was asked, while Del’ure himself patted the seat next to him. “Come, sit. It will do you good. Believe me. I’ve had my share of hangovers and not eating is only going to make you feel even sicker. You will just have to get past the first wave of nausea when you smell the food – if you’re even going to get that – before you’ll ravenously dig into your food.”

He had seen this happen many times before and he’d be surprised if Rose was any different. After all, in her profession she probably knew these things herself. “The bags for the road are almost ready. As soon as you have polished your plate clean, we can be on the road.”

"Been getting hangovers for nearly forty years, that's the first time someone's actually cared enough to tell me to eat something. Rather refreshing." she commented between mouthfuls. For being so little she could put away twice as much food in one sitting than most could. "You said 'polished', but I don't think I'll lick the plate for obvious reasons, darn good bacon though." She sat for a minute or two to let everything settle and drink her tea before looking over at him. "Let's go before she gets any further away." True enough that she'd gotten in some extra distance, but overall she wasn't too far from the city. Getting on the road was the easy part, tracking an elusive killer was not so easy, despite a clear trail of horse tracks down the pathway. "Not too tough to see which way she went, or which way she sent her horse if that's the case. Not sure how intelligent she is, but she's eluded us thus far." She could see no human footprints but that didn't mean she wasn't capable of hiding in the trees. "Think she abandoned her horse somewhere?"

“Forty years? And this is the first time? What sort of people have you been hanging around?” Del’ure replied, completely ignoring the fact that she had just given away a hint of how old she might be. A gentleman did not ask a woman how old she was. Nor would he ever comment on her appearance, or reply with anything other than ‘you look perfectly lovely’ to any kind of question fishing for a negative answer.

“I’m sure we could find some bread for you to soak up the rest of the juice,” he suggested with a chuckle as he watched her devour the rest of her plate. Quite the appetite for such a small woman. He liked it.

Once they were up on the road, following the trail of horse hooves approximately up until a point where the horse could not be seen from the city anymore, Del’ure pondered their options. “I’m not so sure she would have abandoned her horse to be honest. After all, there isn’t all that much around for many miles and she didn’t strike me as the kind to prefer to go on day long hikes on foot rather than travel more comfortably by horse. Of course, I could be mistaken.”

Getting off his horse and examining the ground a while longer, walking up and down the road beside the hoof prints, Del’ure suddenly stopped and looked at Rose. “I’d suggest quite simply following the horse’s trail for a while longer and see what we might come across. If she’s ditched the horse then we will have a hard time finding her anyway because we can’t go looking through every hidey hole in the vicinity just in case she might be using it.”
