| "I wouldn't really know but at least the maid doesn't look overly vexed about anything in particular. Think she's an accomplice? Further yet do you wish me to disappear for a bit so you can work your magic?" Men were better at playing innocent than women, especially when the woman in question was armed to the teeth and more than willing to simply kill her target if things got rough. "Go do what you do best, I'll occupy myself with socializing and keeping a watch on our mystery lady." If there was to be a brawl, she hoped it would at least be after the festivities were over. If push came to shove she'd have to deal with hostages, but that was more than her usual amount of risk. Then there was the maid to deal with. . .and her unmanageably fiery temper. Hmm, perhaps best not to engage her unless absolutely necessary.
Away from her escort things seemed to be a tad slow and almost too relaxed, until she made eye contact with the maid by accident and the next thing she knew she'd been tackled to the ground and was doing her best not to get pummeled. She'd gotten knocked across the face once or twice by the time she realized what was going on, and dreaded what would happen if the maid realized Rose was actually armed. It was shortly after that realization that she also wondered, rather briefly, what Del'ure was going to say when this was all over. Was he going to rip her a new one for getting into a brawl? Or would he laugh and say it likely couldn't be helped? This would prove to hopefully be a decent distraction so that he could sneak off with their target and keep her occupied till they could incapacitate her. 'This better be worth it!' she thought as she fought to get the other woman off her.

| When they took another turn and Del’ure could look at their target again, her eyes were still on him and he decided that Rose’s suggestion of leaving him on his own for a bit might be a good path to follow. “Alright, let’s do it your way,” he replied, still keeping up appearances and not getting too close to her.
Without further ado they went their separate ways as soon as the current song had reached an end, though Del’ure followed Rose out from the dancefloor before nodding at her formally and going off. After all, it was part of the appearances not to just up and move off from each other as though they didn’t know each other at all, when they had been dancing.
It didn’t take long for the the woman to make her way across to where he was standing at the bar, waiting for his drink to be handed over. From the corner of his eye he could see her sashaying towards him and he waited until the last moment to turn around, apparently wanting to glance over the room while waiting for his drink.
“I’ve seen you before,” were the first words she spoke and Del’ure raised an eyebrow at her. He wasn’t quite sure whether this was a good or a bad thing seeing that there was no indication in her tone of either.
“Is that so?” he decided to reply with an amused grin on his face. “Do you like what you see then?” He might as well go down the straightforward road and see what would come of it. He had nothing to lose in the end and if she took off, well… then either he would chase her or Rose could do that herself.
“I’m not sure yet,” she countered, not moving away from where she had planted herself next to him at the bar, beginning to trace her fingers over the exposed skin on his hand.
“Your drink, sir,” the bartender interrupted and Del’ure briefly extricated his hand from underneath her fingers to slip a coin into the man’s waiting hands and pick up his glass to take a sip. He did not offer her a drink but raised a questioning eyebrow to see what it was she actually wanted.
Sure enough her hand moved to his glass as soon as he had set it down, encircling not only the drink but his hand as well. “I think you know very well what I want.”
Somewhere else in the room a fight seemed to suddenly explode into existence and Del’ure only barely managed to resist the urge to have a look. It did not matter, even if it was Rose. He had the one he wanted with him now and if he took his attention from her now, then she would know he was neither ensnared by her charm nor really interested in being so.
Letting his expression slip into a small smile – confined to the corners of his mouth – he straightened up, once again removed his hand from hers to empty his drink and proceeded to hold out his arm for her. “I really feel like getting some fresh air, don’t you?”

| By the time Del'ure had managed to lead the lady away, Rose was picking herself up after the tousle she'd just had with the maid. She could only presume that it was a one time occurrence, and if she ever came through here again on her own the girl would have very few, if any, issues with her. As the night went on, Rose quietly began spying on Del'ure and his companion, who, to her surprise, she found to be named Juliet. Honestly though, the little elf kept getting exceedingly paranoid that Juliet knew exactly what was going on. After a time of watching the pair she grew impatient and began to catch herself yawning, despite the hour being nowhere near late. She didn't really have a way of telling her friend to speed things up, nor did it really suit her to do so, but impatience was a handful to deal with.
What she needed to know was where they were going so she could show up when "all was said and done" to put things politely. Eternity must have passed when Rose decided to follow Del'ure more closely, despite knowing she'd have to deal with listening to them flirt and do other things that she didn't really care to know about. Rose had all but decided that she'd just follow Del'ure wherever it was he chose to go with this charade he had going. Something in her told her to have another drink and loosen up, but that could be done when she got her pay for this devil-woman's head. 'Hurry up with this already! The rate this is going it'll take till next year to catch her!' Her angry thought process was interrupted by the fact that time seemed to have flown by and the activity level in the city had plummeted, there would be few interruptions outside the social event. Perfect timing. . .

| “So tell me, Juliet,” Del’ure mused as they were strolling through the gardens surrounding the doctor’s considerably large house, “what is it that you want?”
They had been idly chatting and flirting, occasionally exchanging ever so light touches or a peck on the cheek, but the woman had flatout refused to give any hints as to why she had picked Del’ure from the crowd to spend his time with him, especially since she had had her eyes set on the doctor, or at least so it had seemed. Del’ure still did not trust her but he wasn’t going to pass up an opportunity – obviously – if it were to present herself, despite the fact that he had agreed to help a certain elf on a job.
The night had quietened around them and many of the party guests had already taken their leave. There weren’t all too many left in the ballroom, and even fewer people outside, and they were fast approaching the end of the garden now, Juliet seemingly having a goal in mind.
“Why, what do you think?” she asked coquettishly as she raised an eyebrow at him, pursing her delicate lips into a mock pout.
“Oh, I could think of a few things,” he replied, drawing closer to her until they were almost pressed up against each other. His hand was languishly flowing down the side of her body, placing butterfly touches here and there, not properly touching but giving enough of a hint to make her shiver.
“I think we may be of a similar mind,” Juliet purred, as she linked her arm with Del’ure’s and dragged him completely out of sight and pressed him up against a tree, which conveniently appeared at his back.
The only thing he did not particularly like about the situation was that, while he had her trapped in his arms, he was just as effectively trapped between the tree and her body. If she had something in mind other than sex, he was going to have a hard time defending himself in this position.
However, without hesitating, Del’ure embraced the woman. He made a brief waving motion in the general direction of where they had come from to signal Rose – he was sure she was around somewhere - that she could jump in whenever she felt like it, before letting his hands roam over Juliet’s back, dipping slowly further south. She immediately began showering him with kisses, alternating nibbling on his lower lip and whispering obscenities into his ear.

| Thank the gods! Between having to watch Del'ure pretend to be interested in this woman and listening to said woman Rose was about ready to vomit. The poor elf had had just about enough of the sappy fake romance and sneaked over to put a knife at Juliet's back. "Utter one more word like that, little girl, and you're dead. I hereby place you under arrest for murder and conspiracy to commit murder." The woman sputtered in protest but immediately shut her mouth when Rose pressed the dagger more firmly against her ribcage. She produced the wanted poster from where she'd fastened it to her leg and made sure to double check that she did indeed have the right woman. "Indeed you're our little black widow. Now move away from my friend here, no sudden movements." Instead of waiting for the woman to move, she yanked her backward and looked over to Del'ure.
"Nicely done, are you alright? No damage?" He didn't look hurt, and that would have to do for now since she just spoiled his night. "Sorry I didn't let you have your fun." He was likely tired of putting up with her at this point and the sooner she could pay him what she owed him the sooner he'd happily be rid of her. Traveling at night with a prisoner was never smart, they'd have to leave in the morning. "Ready to get some sleep before we turn her in?"

| Rose’s reaction came quicker than he had expected and Juliet was practically yanked away from him mid-kiss. It was disconcerting to say the least but they had managed to capture the black widow just like they had planned. Though he still was unsure why she had chosen to seduce him instead of someone she knew she would make some money of he wasn’t sure but he didn’t care either. He knew the effect his charm could have on some women whether they wanted to fall for it or not.
In the end, it didn’t matter, and he was glad the show was over, even though it left him rather… dissatisfied in certain respects.
“Who, me? Oh I’m peachy,” Del’ure replied with a grin. “I just have a slight… you know… problem,” he continued, his grin widening as he looked at Rose and then down at the rather obvious bulge in his trousers.
“You wouldn’t want to give me a hand with that when we get back to our room, would you?” Sleep definitely wasn’t on his mind, but of course he wasn’t expecting Rose to jump into the sack with him.
Clearing his throat and winking at the elf, he straightened up and moved away from the tree he had still been leaning against. “We should get her safely stowed away for the night if you want to catch some sleep. I can watch her if you want since I’m not sure I’ll be catching any sleep tonight.” Better him than one of the stable boys in any case. Then again, he had no idea where Rose wanted to keep Juliet for the night. Maybe it might not be a bad idea to just keep her in the room with them. It certainly would be worth the look on the maid’s face when she saw two women emerge from the room in the morning.

| "We'll just keep her in the room with us, no sense in leaving her somewhere that we can't watch her. As for your issue, I'll leave that to you to take care of." Rose fully intended to sleep that night so she could keep an eye on Juliet the next day. As for Del'ure, she knew if he stayed up to handle his. . .problem. . .he would likely sleep through most of the ride back to Rose's employer. "Quite honestly I'd even suggest you ask that maid since I intend to be wide awake when we set out to deliver her to her ex-husband. There's no need to keep up pretenses anyway so you go have your fun with whoever it is you choose and I will keep Juliet secured in our room."
It was a relatively difficult thing to get Juliet back to that room without causing much of a fuss or making things look suspicious, but somehow they managed to make it. Juliet was then attached to the bedpost in a sitting position in a series of intricate knots and loop systems nearly tight enough to cut off the circulation to her arms and make it difficult to breathe. "Del'ure, so long as you're back in time for breakfast I won't say a word about whatever it is you decide to do with your time tonight." Not like she could really, but it sounded better in her head that when she actually spoke.

| Wow, Del’ure thought once Rose had stopped talking and was manhandling Juliet back to the room. He had known that she would change once the deed was done, but going all bossy and motherly on him hadn’t been what he had figured. While he liked a woman with a strong personality, he wasn’t so very keen on the ones who made presumptions they couldn’t possibly make without actually knowing someone. But whatever, he wasn’t going to let her suddenly seemingly sour mood ruin his fun. He already knew exactly where he would be spending his night.
When Rose suggested the maid however, he burst out laughing. “What? Oh please! I do have some standards you know. Even if you won’t believe it.” The maid would have been way too easy and he wasn’t much for fulfilling a girl’s dreams when she was being such a bitch about it, and frankly, the maid had been. A woman with some decency would never have allowed her jealousy to take on such levels that she would openly attack someone else in public, in the midst of a public consisting of the whole village no less.
Once Juliet was secured and Del’ure was sure that there was no way the woman could escape, he took Rose up on her offer and left her to her own devices. “And you’re sure you’re going to be alright? If there’s anything you need before I go...?” Even before he had finished the question, he already knew the answer. “Enjoy your night, ladies! I shall see you bright and early in the morning.” And on that note he bowed his way out of the room and left them to their thing.

| Well it was a valid statement at the time, even if he didn't get any sleep he at least needed food! Ah well, even if he [i[had[/i] taken her comments the wrong way she knew he could take care of himself and by morning they would both have a different outlook on things. The night passed fairly quietly with the only upstarts being Juliet pitching a fit now and then and trying to break out of her ropes. Morning came with little consequence besides a pissy murderess and a mostly well-rested elf. On top of that she wondered how Del'ure's night had gone and could only imagine the stories he would tell over the morning meal. She gagged her prisoner and headed downstairs to see if Del'ure had come back from wherever he'd actually gone the previous night.
When she didn't see him after glancing around the room, she sat herself down and ate two large plates of food before setting off back upstairs to check on Juliet. "Wonder when he'll get back. . ."

| Del’ure was comfortably sitting in a chair, feet propped up on the table, when Rose came back into the room. When she entered with a look that clearly said she had been wondering where the hell he was, he couldn’t help but grin. Juliet had stopped struggling after a while and she had in the meantime also stopped trying to talk and charm her way out of the ties. Of course, as soon as he had slipped in through the window, she had tried to continue where they had left off the night before in hopes that maybe he wanted to get in her pants after all, which would obviously be her chance to escape, but Del’ure was no more interested now than he had been the evening before. Certain things merely provoked a reaction – a statement Juliet did not appreaciate at all. At least by the time Rose reappeared, Juliet was studiously ignoring him and Del’ure had had a few moments of peace.
“Enjoyed breakfast?” he asked. “I’ve grabbed a few provisions on my way back, fresh bread, some cheese and a few other minor things. So, I’d say... whenever you’re ready?” Del’ure removed his feet from the table and unfolded himself from the chair. “Oh, and I’ve had her horse brought over and paid for her room, which I assume your employer is going to reimburse.” The tone stated that he wasn’t going to accept any other response from said employer; even though he had his means to get his expenses back with other methods if necessary.

| "Absolutely. And if he doesn't then I will, since it's my fault you're here to start with. Did you enjoy your night?" She was glad to see he was at least amused. A long night's sleep had done her a lot of good, her mood had drastically improved. "Any interesting stories to tell? All I could tell you is how many fits she pitched trying to get out of her ropes. I hope your night was far less tedious than dealing with her." This was when things got a bit dangerous and Juliet decided to bite Rose's arm before she could untie any of the knots.
"Oh yeah, real peachy girl you turned out to be, Juliet." Well at least she put up a fight instead of just sulking to the gallows as it were. The real problem for Rose was that the woman had torn open an old scar from her husband's abuse and for a moment she faced away from her fellow travelers to clean the blood from her arm. "A humorous way to start the journey to your demise, but it's the journey to your demise nonetheless." By no means was she going to mourn this woman's death either, especially after the savage bite she'd just received. Getting her out of the city was going to be the next hurdle to jump and after that everything was smooth sailing. If all went according to plan.

| Del’ure wasn’t particularly fond of the fuss Juliet was putting up but he wasn’t going to interrupt either. Rose didn’t exactly look like she wanted help at the moment, though when she was bit by her hostage and turned away to clean up the blood, he furrowed his brows. There had been something on her face which he couldn’t quite place but which had spoken volumes about something that didn’t seem to have a lot to do with the current situation.
“Oh yes, my night was good. Very good incidentally, thank you,” he replied briefly to give her a moment to gather herself and moving to take over the rope securing Juliet after all. He wasn’t about to tell stories though, nope. It had most definitely been an interesting night but he was not about to divulge any details.
Looking back up at Rose after he had removed the rope from around the bedpost but left Juliet’s hands tied up, he tentatively asked: “Are you alright?”
It was a good thing that there wasn’t much packing to be done for either of them and getting Juliet out the back would be done fairly easily as Del’ure had spoken to the kitchen staff – in other words he had paid them a little something to turn a blind eye when they walked out with a third person in toe who might not be looking very happy and who might potentially be gagged. He had given them their reason as well in as few words as possible and without giving away too much but enough to convince them that they weren’t a couple of nutcases or criminals.
“Whenever you’re ready,” he stated. His hand was firmly gripping Juliet’s arm so as not to give her any ideas but if Rose wanted to take over, he would make room. It wasn’t his job and the elf was more than capable of handling this herself.

| "I'll tell you once we're out of town, the walls have eyes and ears. I'm alright to be honest, just a memory, a very bad memory." She took hold of Juliet's other arm and proceeded to just about drag her down the stairs, albeit with a slightly awkward gait since the woman was larger than her and slightly unwilling to travel with her. On top of that, trying to get the woman onto a horse was no easy task either, so instead of hefting her up onto the saddle like a rolled up rug, she had her horse kneel and simply pushed her over the stallion's back. After the horse was standing again she swung into the saddle, still looking none too pleased with the wound on her arm. Rose turned back to look at her companion to at least give him a brief explanation.
"One of the many scars my husband left on me before he died. Most of my scars are not from my job but from my first marriage." She tried her best to keep a straight face but found that it was near impossible to keep from looking upset. "That doesn't excuse my behavior over the course of this journey by any means, and for that I'm sorry. If you're ready then let's head out. The sooner we leave the sooner we get paid."

| Del’ure merely looked at Rose, accepting the fact that she was unwilling to provide a lengthy explanation at that moment, or maybe at any moment later in time. If it wasn’t his place to know, then so be it. He was curious though. For someone who seemed so tough on most other occasions, this seemed to have opened quite a few raw emotions and he was interested in knowing what would crack her tough-nut shell.
The whole Juliet fiasco wasn’t improving either of their moods as the woman was being deliberately difficult but Del’ure tried to make the best of it. He had been rummaging around with saddle bags and readjusting the straps, already seated on his horse, when Rose suddenly turned around to look at him and gave him the explanation she had been so reluctant to provide and had only – maybe – wanted to talk about later on.
With a nod, he acknowledged her statement and along with it the fact that she was in no mood to talk about it any longer, instead more interested in getting a move on, which they then did. Getting out of town was fairly easy after all. Not too many people cared about why Juliet was pulling a face and wasn’t exactly riding in the most dignified way ever but a brief explanation to the guards they encountered seemed to erase any kinds of trouble. Good for them!
Before long, they were out in the open again and back on the road heading towards where they had started out from only the day before. “So your first marriage sucked big time,” Del’ure casually dropped into the silence. “What about your second one? Third one?” He raised a questioning eyebrow at Rose with a playful smile on his lips. Maybe it would cheer her up. If not, well then he was going to have something coming for him but at least he had tried.

| At the marriage joke she couldn't resist laughing. "I've only been married once! In my experience it's better to just stay single than to deal with a spouse. Besides how many men do you think there are in this world that could handle a tiny killer elf like me? Men like that are few and far between my friend, and I think I like it that way. For now." It meant men didn't always look at her like they'd look at any other woman; it felt good to know that she didn't always stand out in a bad way. Since she wasn't everyone's cup of tea it made her life easier not having to deal with keeping tabs on every person she knew. Granted there were one or two individuals that warranted that magnitude of attention, but overall the rest of the island could keep to itself and she wouldn't be too fussed over it. The dangerous spark returned to her eyes and she turned in her saddle to face him.
"I had a deadbeat husband, so what? I lived to make certain the rest of my life was never that negative again and seeing as I have you as a traveling companion I'd say that's gone well thus far." A truly cheshire-cat-like smile accompanied her statement and she couldn't resist the urge to make a final comment. "One thing I remember, and will mock till I'm six feet under, is that he always seemed scared stiff of me when it came to the bedroom. The rest of the house was a torture chamber but in that one place he changed from a thug to a spineless worm. Guess the fact that he didn't have anything going for him below the belt didn't help, and some of my family actually made several jokes about how we'd never have children because he was afraid to sleep with me."

| Del’ure laughed. “You don’t have to tell me!” He wasn’t going to bet on it but he was pretty sure that he was not going to get married in this lifetime. He wasn’t one to say never since he lived for making people break certain ‘never’ rules, but it wasn’t likely he would ever take a wife. Not that it was something he openly stated much or at any length.
“You are a weird woman, you know that?” he chuckled but returned the grin she shot his way. She really was weird, but in a non-conventional kind of way and it was oddly refreshing. A bit of a challenge, so to speak, even though she may be quite easy to break in the end, considering how much pent-up emotion there still was regarding her failed marriage.
When she continued talking about her husband however, Del’ure couldn’t help but raise a very astonished eyebrow. “He was afraid to sleep with you? Why? What ever could you possibly do in the bedroom that is so scary?”
Juliet made grunting noises that were obviously meant to make them realise that she was not in the mood to listen to this conversation which was probably going to scream too much information to anyone listening in, but Del’ure didn’t care. She’d just have to endure it.
“Seriously though, any man would have to be crazy not wanting to sleep with a woman, to sleep with you.” He shook his head, unable to believe what he had just heard. Granted, some men really didn’t have much going on for them below the belt, even if most concealed that very well indeed, but that wasn’t an excuse not to want to, was it? Either way, it was not something he understood.

| "The Hades if I could ever figure it out! Actually I did finally figure out the problem, albeit it was after he'd left the last time, he lacked the full ability to...well...perform; for lack of better phrasing. Granted after everything was said and done we 'did' reconcile but that's beside the point." She blinked when he mentioned what she could have possibly done to scare him and gave him a funny sort of smirk. "Well that all depends on the definition of 'scary'. To him any time I was missing clothing was terrifying for him. He never deliberately ran from me but he would always insist I put something on and turn red and refuse to look at me."
She didn't mention that it might've been the wounds he'd inflicted on her time after time that had him so scared, it would've dampened the mood considerably. "Only thing I would say is scary now is how many weapons I hide in my clothes. That sort of thing tends to be a major turn-off, can't see why. It doesn't seem to bother you in any way, so that kind of information must not phase you too much."

| “Are you kidding?” Del’ure laughed. “Finding all the hidden weapons on a woman is part of a wonderful challenge and one of the best things ever. Provided they’re not used against me.” And even then, some could be rather interesting foreplay, but that was besides the point here and not something he necessarily needed to share – not just yet in any case.
Shaking his head, Del’ure continued to marvel about this wonder of a husband of hers. “He really was a weird one, but at least you’re rid of him now. Silver lining, I guess?” Juliet fidgeted even more at this, probably wanting to make a point on this particular topic of getting rid of husbands, but once again she was ignored. Separating and killing are two very different things after all.
All the while, they were progressing nicely along the way and if they kept this up, they would most likely make it back even quicker than they had thought. The sun wasn’t burning down so much this time, which made the whole journey much more enjoyable, and much easier on their horses as well.
“So you’re enjoying the life without a spouse, huh?” Del’ure looked Rose over once again. She still struck him as odd but she was quite something to look at; there was no denying it. “And you think there are few men who could handle you. Tell me, what would you do if you found someone who could handle you?”

| "I don't really know what I'd do. Me being attracted to someone and them being attracted in turn AFTER finding out what I do is a little tough to come by. I suppose anything could happen if I found a man that could handle me." When it came down to it, Rose loved a good round of drinking, it was what she did when she wasn't working. Not every single day obviously, but now and then a good aged scotch with a couple of comrades was a nice way to unwind. "But I'd be the first to suggest finding a good pub for a round of drinks, regardless of how the night might actually end."
Juliet's constant movement prompted the elf to reach back and give her a firm whack in the rear/back of the leg with a rolled up scroll. "Oi, quit that you're making the horse nervous you little witch. I won't hesitate to remind you to sit still." With that, the scroll went away and she knew she'd just pissed the woman off, but it didn't matter. The horse was starting to fidget a little bit in turn from Juliet's little spell and that was what set Rose off. "We should be rid of her here shortly, and you in turn will be free of me, if that's what you want." She couldn't see the man's office yet, but she knew it was close by, and so was the rare book as well as the money she was promised. "I do believe this is the place, shall we finally be rid of this harpy?" The building itself wasn't too expensive looking, but that was part of the charm, or rather that was the opinion of the owner.

| Ah now this sounded like the kind of evening Del’ure could get on board with. ‘Regardless of how the night might actually end’ also sounded like his kind of thing and he was very much looking forward to meeting Rose on private grounds rather than in the middle of a job. Even though that had been quite interesting as well… not having something like that press down on you was much better. “Oh, I’m game if you want to go out for a round or two of drinks. And I think after this, they will be well deserved as well!”
When they arrived at Rose’s employer’s place, Del’ure got out of the saddle and helped Rose with Juliet to get her off the horse. This took quite a bit of fiddling as the miss was in no way inclined to make their lives easier and she seemed very much disinclined to step before the man awaiting her on the other side of the door.
When it was time to go inside to deliver the package, Del’ure remained where he was however. “I’ll watch the horses in the meantime. This is your business, Rose, not mine. Enjoy your last moments with the harpy,” he added with a grin and a wink before he turned to Juliet’s horse and loosened the saddle as well as the bridle. “And now, what are we going to do with you, hm?” he wondered out loud when he rubbed the horse behind its ears to ease the strain of the leather straps a little. Looking up and around, he wondered if the man had a stable close to his office so that Del’ure could maybe put the horse there, but no such luck. The mare was so happy about the massage she was getting that she promptly proceeded to rub her head against Del’ure, who had to chuckle at the show of affection. “Guess we’ll have to wait for Rose to get back. You’ll get some peace soon, sweetie.”

| That idea, of course, made the elf roll her eyes. She was quite happy to be rid of the annoying woman! Rose was inside for nearly an hour discussing things with her employer and just about ran out with a small chest under one arm. "Most awkward time I've yet to have turning over a prisoner. She didn't seem to care that she would be in prison till her dying day, nor that I had essentially thrown her at her ex and asked for payment as well as reimbursement for damages. I also told him I had to enlist outside help in catching her, so your cut is a bit more substantial than it would have been originally." It was then that she remembered the woman's horse and looked over at it. "She's certainly stunning, but I wouldn't know what to do with a second horse if it hit me in the face. I suppose all we can do is try to find someone to take her off our hands and let her have some quiet time."
That wasn't such a tough task truthfully, and after ambling about for a while, Rose's earlier suggestion of drinks had led her to a local tavern. "Think we can pass the time here without getting roped into more drama, Del'ure?" The environment seemed to be just a quiet local place, hopefully the alcohol was worth its salt. Of course even if there was a brawl in the middle of the night she wasn't going to complain. She knew better than to go starting trouble, but if trouble came looking for her she didn't have the common sense to turn and run.

| “Why, thank you.” Del’ure smiled at Rose when she announced that he was going to receive a substantial cut of the reward. He hadn’t really expected anything nor asked for anything but it was always nice to earn a little something. He had to live as well, after all.
“I’m sure we’ll find someone around here to take her off our hands,” he replied as he gave the mare another long look. “If not, I’ll take her along and find someone somewhere else.” It would be a shame to give her into bad hands after all and maybe, just maybe, having a second horse stashed somewhere might not be a bad idea either, and the animal did seem to be rather fond of him. Alas, they would consider this some other time. For now, the horses would be well stabled at the tavern the elf and demon had just come across.
“Ah, I do hope so. While I do not mind a bit of drama, I could do without it tonight. I really want to just enjoy a drink or two. Or a few.” He winked at Rose before turning towards the stableboy – why were they always young boys? – and handing over the reins with a brief smile. “My dear boy, I’m sure you know how to do your job. I will check on them later. Thank you.”
As per usual, he did not leave his possessions on the saddle but he rarely carried around a lot with him anymore. He was not a very materialistic man and did not need much. “Maybe we should get a room here, too. I’m fairly certain we won’t be going far anymore tonight,” Del’ure suggested as he held the door open for Rose to enter the pub.

| "Best suggestion from you yet! I might just decide to keep you if this continues." The latter part of the statement was simply a joke, but she couldn't help wishing she could wake up to seeing him now and then. Above all, attachments like that were easy to make light of but were tough for her to really get used to. "First two rounds are on me for getting you into this mess in the first place!" Of course Rose's version of a round wasn't just one drink, it was three, and she was already on her third drink. This of course was because she was doing whiskey shots and it took three by her measurement to make one proper drink. Funnily enough this had all been figured out the last time she'd properly gotten plastered after a good game of cat and mouse like the one she'd just finished with her companion.
The tavern, for all the drunks and shenanigans and near brawls that were going on, was friendly enough that she could overlook the few hostile people in the room and enjoy the warm atmosphere long enough to settle in and make light conversation with one or two people seated near her. The elf’s eating habits pretty much held true for her drinking habits where applicable. After a few decades of drinking it got to the point where it took quite a bit of mead to get her plastered, but the last thing on her mind was setting up an addiction to spend her money on. Who needed booze when there were plenty of rare and exciting books to be found and bartered for? Hence she made the upgrade from lots of cheap alcohol to a small amount of high quality spirits to make the idea of constant drinking unappealing for monetary and health-related reasons.
“So, Del’ure, what’re you havin’? Two rounds of whiskey are enough for me for the time being so it’s time to see you let loose a little.” After taking a moment to procure a place where they could crash after celebrating, she turned her half-drunken gaze to her acquaintance and watched him for a few seconds before getting him a set of shots. “At least give ‘em a try, they give you an amazing buzz. No harm no foul if you don’t like ‘em in the end. It’s party time!” The idea of making Rose flustered enough to blush was laughable to most who knew her well, and a decent amount of booze did much the same thing with less risk than being lewd or crass. Or worse still: attempting to touch her without proper consent. All those things aside, the soon-to-be plastered elf was still grinning like an idiot and waiting for her friend to accept his drink. Of course her attention was quickly drawn to a hand of cards that came to blows far too quickly to have been induced by anything but drunken anger; how amusing. Some people just never learned how to lose gracefully.

| “Haha, don’t mind if I do!” Del’ure grinned as Rose stated that the first two rounds were on her. Two rounds already that they were definitely going to have, and a third and fourth at least going to be paid for by Del’ure; well this was promising to be a good night! What he had not expected were the whiskey shots and his eyes grew a little larger as he watched the elf down two of those in quick succession with a third at the ready. This was definitely going to be most interesting. And wow, she was quick on the drinking.
While Rose was having her first shots and happily chatting away to some of her neighbours at the bar, Del’ure moved to chat with the mistress to arrange for a room for the night. He wasn’t much paying attention to the rest of the people in the tavern. There weren’t many women, and he wasn’t interesting in men acting like cocks trying to pick the largest piece of corn as long as they left him in peace. As it turned out there was only one available anymore and it was a rather small one. The mistress felt a little bad, especially after Del’ure had charmed his way into her heart, but he waved off her concerns by suggesting an excellent breakfast to make up for crammed sleeping arrangements. The mistress was more than willing and with a brief chat with her husband, it was agreed that breakfast would be provided for both him and Rose for half the usual price.
Upon his return to his companion, Rose had already procured a table. “Ah, sweetheart,” he said as he comfortably slumped into his seat, “you’ve never seen me tense.” Truth be told, he really was loose most of the time as he didn’t much care for stressing or fretting or anything of the sort.
He couldn’t help but be surprised at the woman though when she went off to get some more drinks and proceeded to put them in front of him. It wasn’t an emotion he was used to having around women. “You know, it’s been a long time that I came across a woman who can hold her drink like you seem to be able to. Here’s to a grand opening of a great night,” he said as he downed the first shot, instantly followed by numbers two and three.
“What do you say we have us a lovely pint of mead as an intermission? This round’s on me though. And a little something to eat as well maybe? I don’t know about you but my stomach is starting to protest the lack of nourishment for the day.” Not to mention the fact that once the three shots had settled in his stomach they were instantly telling him that happy liquid times were better with a teeny bit of something non-liquid.
Without waiting for Rose’s reply, he waved one of the barmaids over. “Could you please inform the lady of tonight’s specials? I shall have whatever she’s having, thank you.” With a wink at the elf, he disappeared to get their drinks and left her to deal with the maid. He wasn’t too fussed with what he was eating as long as he was eating and it would be interesting to see what Rose would order. While he was waiting at the bar for their pints to be prepared, he let his gaze linger on the woman in question while she was talking to the barmaid. There really was something about her. Fierce, tough and used to a man’s world, so to speak, and yet there was something almost girlish about her. She already was opening up to him a fair amount; it would be interesting to see what else the haze of drunkenness would make her say or do.
It was only when the maid was gone that Del’ure picked up the mugs and made his way back to the table. “So?” he asked with a smile when he had put the drinks on the table and seated himself. “What are we having for dinner?”

| Of course to Rose any food would do so long as it was cooked and not freezing cold. To be fair to them both it was a long day and the alcohol was just starting to pull at Rose’s usually rigid demeanor, but she felt today could just be a day to have fun and forget everything past and present. Hell she wouldn’t even entertain the idea that her actions had consequences! To be frank she was going to revert to her former self before she was married but with far fewer restraints. In her youth the woman had been high spirited and forever trying to wander away from home to find adventure like the things she read in books. She wanted excitement and romance and drama and danger, things she had to wait a decade or two to finally get a taste of, and after the death of her husband she took that chance to go off on her own and make that wish happen. Nearly fifty years later she still couldn’t help but laugh at how silly she had been in her early youth, but the part of her that remained so careless was showing more and more and the time crept by so slowly. After being informed that corned beef with buttered cabbage was listed on the specials, it was the only choice she could think of that sounded any good.
“We’re having corned beef with buttered cabbage, my good man! Wonder if they’ll make creamed horseradish sauce to go with it. . .” One thing Rose couldn’t get enough of as a child was horseradish. Nobody else in her family could stomach it in any form, but the little elf herself would just about peel a piece of the root and eat it raw given the option. Some would argue this was where she got her firecracker-esque spontaneity and fiery determination, and it made a wonderful joke when breaking the ice with new employers when the occasion called for it. The mead was a pleasant switch from the burn of the whiskey shots, and if she were sober enough she would also have realized that it would reduce the pain of the monster hangover she was sure to get when the sun rose again. More people began to wander into the tavern as the sun sank behind the horizon and all the activity added to the partying mood that permeated the atmosphere. When the food arrived, it took one look at the plate for Rose to go wide eyed. “They did make it. I’m amazed!” This one comment however was quickly followed by her digging into her food, but she wasn’t eating as if it was her first meal in a week. However she was by no means hesitant to call the maid over and kindly ask for seconds. Not many people made such good food anymore and she didn’t care if others didn’t like her eating habits. Not to say she was messy when she was eating, she just ate twice to three times as much as any other person her size.
“So, think you’ll find someone to pass your night with like when we caught Juliet? Either way I think neither of us will sleep too well the way this is going.” That wasn’t going to bother her of course, because that just meant she’d be up all night playing cards and drinking if Del’ure went off to find other things to amuse himself with. At this point she didn’t know what was going to happen but a man and a woman, both totally drunk, staying in a cramped little room was going to spell a good few things including a definitive lack of proper sleeping. Somewhere behind her someone dropped a tankard and the people in the general area all burst into laughter because the guy was beyond plastered and most of the alcohol had landed on one of the barmaids. The girl was understandably startled, but she seemed to quickly get over it as she too started laughing. One guy got tossed over a table over a bad hand of cards, but most everything either got swept off the floor or people just left when things stopped being so fun for them. Along the line a few people sat over in a corner and played a few bawdy songs to which a handful people eventually started singing. One song in particular she remembered her mother singing at a friend’s wedding. Her mother had been inebriated beyond reason and in a moment of forgetfulness Rose snorted her drink as she laughed at the memory. “My mother drunkenly sang this song at a wedding one time when I was a child. Father laughed himself out of his seat and mother’s friend said it was the best wedding present of the bunch. I wouldn’t dare try to sing it myself I barely remember the lyrics. Some poor sod’s likely to try and laugh a bunch of us out our seats in no time.”
