Ladon claimed his kill and started wolfing down the mean. The smell of blood filling his nose trails. Moments later, his tail was contently hitting the ground, making a soft sound that broke the stillness of the night.

I think it is time to head back, there's something you might want to see.

Bak at camp, Silver was already awake waiting for them. His hair covering his eyes. Something was off about his aura.

Ladon chucked and got closer to his rider. Fear not, just don't move all too suddenly, he is a bit edgy. He addressed the horse dragon.

The mountain lion tasted wonderful and exactly hit the spot of what Abraxas had been craving. Her tails were flicking about in contentment as she was wiping her claws, trying to get rid of the blood and hair balls that were clinging to her talons. ”Mmhh, that was just the right thing,” the horse dragon murmured, Ladon’s tail thumping down onto the floor almost as if to further enforce that statement. With raised eyebrows, she looked at him when he spoke. ”And what might that be?” she asked, but immediately spread her wings to show that she was ready to head back towards the camp.

Surely enough there was something quite awry at the camp and more specifically with Silver, though Abraxas wasn’t certain this was what Ladon had meant. Carefully, the horse dragon touched down on the floor and loosely folded her wings to her back, eyeing the two-legged one with a puzzled expression. Something dark was emanating from him and she could feel it ripple down her back, even though she couldn’t determine what exactly it was. ”A little?! That might be a bit of an understatement, don’t you think?” Abraxas murmured, but obeyed what the dragon had said and for the time being simply remained rooted to the spot, her eyes glued to Silver. She was itching to know what the matter was but for the time being, she thought it more prudent to for once keep her mouth shut, only quickly glancing to Ladon once in a while, who seemed to be rather amused.

Silver lifted his head, silver eyes looked back at the two dragons from behind damp bangs, "We need to move. Something's heading this way ." As soon as he said that, he strapped the saddle onto Ladon's back.

"Someone's looking for a horse dragon. And I'm guessing that would be you." That was the first time he addressed her directly since they came back.

When he got onto his dragon's back, he looked in the lake's direction, " The monster is stirring too." And then he remained silent.

So that’s when his eyes turn silver... Abraxas mused, cocking her head slightly to the side as she let her eyes rove over the man. Though there was something far more odd about his expression than the silver colour of his eyes and it was only briefly after that he spoke, thus confirming her thoughts. She was about to ask how he knew that something was headed this way, when her words suddenly got lodged in her throat and her eyes grew wide in shocked surprise.

When she finally, after what seemed like ages to her, regained the ability to speak, Abraxas was still looking at Silver, the incredulity plastered all over her face. “Why would anyone be looking for me?!” Frowning, she pulled back her head, shaking her mane in frustration. The horse dragon didn’t understand what was going on or why anyone would be looking for her for that matter, and the fact that she was now completely in the dark about happenings, in addition to Silver’s aura which – to her – seemed to be growing darker by the second, was making her very uneasy. Maybe it was simply her own emotions that were going overboard now and she felt everything around her to be darker and colder but maybe it was something else, she didn’t know.

Her eyes briefly wandered to the lake down below when Silver mentioned the monster and a shiver went down her spine when she remembered the awful feeling of the tentacles strapped around her and pulling her in. Shaking off the feeling, the horse dragon spread her wings and lept off the plateau. “Can we escape, whatever it is that is coming here?”

As soon as Ladon heard these words slip out of his Rider's mouth, his back stiffened and once his rider mounted, he haisly took off.

" Of course we can, we shall head towards the lake. It's safer that way. We can always slay that monster and take cover in the neighboring woods." Silver's voice was unusually deep as he said these words.

Together, they made for the lake

It was a little reassuring to hear Silver say that they would escape whatever it was coming for them, or rather her, but Abraxas could nevertheless not shake the lingering feeling of something dark being close by. Briefly glancing at Silver, she wondered whether it was his aura or something completely different. Ladon seemed perfectly at ease with his rider’s aura, so maybe it was not what was unnerving her. Or it might simply have a different effect on the horse dragon than on Ladon.

In the dark of the night, hunted by what she did not know, the flight towards the lake seemed to take far longer than it had earlier when they had been looking for a place to spend the night. The water’s surface had an eery glow under the light of the full moon and the horse dragon wondered why she had never noticed how creepy a full moon night could actually be. However, she knew she was dramatising the situation now, but she couldn’t help it; she did love drama up to a certain extent, and so far it was only the nervous tingling of her fur standing on edge without any real danger.

They were not even that close to the lake yet when Abraxas could clearly distinguish the bulk of the monster beneath the water. It still did not look like anything in particular rather than a darker stained spot amongst the silvery waves that were created by the fish coming up for air. “Something seems awfully wrong,” she muttered, more to herself than to Ladon, “or is it just me?” She couldn’t quite put her finger on what it was but she felt odd. As she made for a sweep closer to the lake to take a closer look at the shape of the beast, it suddenly broke through the surface, jumping into the air towards Abraxas, gaping mouth wide open, as if it wanted to swallow her whole. “How the hell.. ?!” Frightened, the horse dragon immediately jumped back mid-air, barely escaping the rather sharp teeth of the monster, only to be hit by one of the outstretched tentacles on her wing. The smack was not strong enough to pull her down or even get a grip on her but it did make her tumble more than necessary and for a brief moment, Abraxas lost complete control over her flight pattern and her balance.

Silver somehow knew the monster's movements, he just let his reflexses take over. He jumped off Ladon's back, sword in hand, and onto the monster's head, trying to distract it from the dragons above,

It didn't take more than a second or two for the monster to dive head first in the lake, trying to get rid of the creature on its head. But there was no such luck.

It resurfaced again, and shook its large, ugly head, still trying to get rid of Silver who had his sword buried in its head. Teeth snapped together, jaws clenched before it unleashed an ear percig roar.

Ladon took the chance to look at their surroundings, seeing if there was any sign of the threat Silver predicted.

But there was no one but them around, everything was still except for what was going in the lake. It made Ladon tense, and look again for any sign of danger. The whole place surrounding them was unnaturally quiet.

Once the horse dragon regained her flying balance, Silver was already hacking away at the monster in the lake and clearly besting it as well. Abraxas shuddered under the terrifying roar it made but despite all its various efforts, it could not rid itself of the shadowhunter on its head. The horse dragon’s eyes risked a fleeting glance away from the monster towards Ladon, not wanting to leave her foe out of her sight, even though it was not attacking her anymore, and before her gaze could completely settle back on the lake monster, it swiveled back to Ladon.

“Are you alright?” she asked, seeing the suspicious and worried look on the other dragon’s face, wondering what was going on now. There was nothing around, and yet.. As she noticed what Ladon was probably worried about, namely the absolute lack of any kind of noise apart from those created by the fight a little below, the horse dragon grew anxious. This was not a good sign, and now she also considered the sudden attack by the monster an all too convenient means of preventing them from moving on, further away from this place.

Abraxas could feel the dark creeping closer; the shadows seemed to be tightening about them almost as if they were trying to envelop the two dragons. The horse dragon felt her fur rise up again, her wings stretched in an unpleasantly tight manner while she slowly flapped them to remain hovering close by Ladon and Silver. “What is this?” she asked, her voice barely more than a hoarse whisper. “Ladon, can you feel this?” It almost was as if something deeply dark and evil was trying to lure her away, lightly flitting about the dragons in the darkness with a voice so sweet and soft that it could only be described as seducing. Abraxas was scared shitless and she didn’t know what was happening.

It seems that the darkness is closing in on us. Be careful, and stay close.. With that said, he headed for the woods, ignoring the voice in the back of his mind telling him not to.

Silver began to feel the burning in his hands, but paid it no attention as he clung to his sword with all he got. There was a moment where everything went still, the smell of something burning drifting in the air, before there was a blast of pure energy that made the monster roar in agony.

Silver was thrown into the water below, not knowing what was happening above the surface.

Abraxas shook herself in an attempt to get rid of this oppressive feeling but to no avail. When Ladon mentioned for her to stay close, she didn’t need another incentive to hover even closer to him and when the magpie dragon flew off towards the forest, she immediately followed on his heels. “What about Silver though?” she asked, even though she was fairly certain the shadowhunter could manage to finish off the monster without spectators.

The cloak of the trees was a relief and the increasingly pleading voice in Abraxas’ voice abruptly died away as soon as she reached the cover of the forest. Frowning, she looked at Ladon and was about to ask about this when suddenly there was an explosion at the lake, mingled with a fierce roar of the monster. The horse dragon swiveled back towards where they had just come from and yelled: “What just happened? What was that?!” Trembling all over, Abraxas stared out at the lake, her first instinct to take flight and get even further away though within the trees, the two dragons seemed safe enough. But then, she felt the urge to absolutely go see what had happened, not only out of curiosity or out of concern for Silver, but also because something was calling out to her, begging her to go venture a look. The voice was calling out to her curiosity, and despite Ladon’s warning to be careful and to stay close, the horse dragon gave her wings a powerful thrust and began flying back to the lake to inspect this sudden explosion.

Ladon gave a low growl as the horse dragon darted out of the woods, and wasted no time in following her in case of an emergency.

Then just before they manage to get out, a sheet of pure blackness blocked their way. Ladon looked around for a way out, but there was no such luck. Now he and the horse dragon are trapped in the one place he hates with every fiber of his being. All that he can think about is that they're in a grave danger.

Silver neared the surface, but decided that he should go out from the other side of the lake, he didn't know how he managed that explosion, and didn't want to risk being seen by the monster if it was alive.

Laying on the bank, he took deep breaths. He was exhausted beyond belief, but he pushed himself up anyways, his silver eyes looked around almost anxiously searching for the two dragons, fearing that he somehow hurt them.

All he found was a thick black fog covering the forest.

Abraxas abruptly stopped at the sudden appearance of the black wall in front of her nose, barely managing not to smash her face against it, in case it was actually as solid as it looked. Fear was spreading through every fiber of her body and she didn’t know what to do. Silver was out of sight and probably out of reach now, maybe being eaten by the monster, while her and Ladon were trapped in something she had no clue what it was but which scared the living hell out of her.

“What is going on, Ladon? What is happening here?” It was beginning to be rather cold, the voice whispering sweet nothings into her ear that she was not even hearing anymore, the fear blocking everything out but the oppressing presence of the black and the dragon to which Abraxas was now turning to. Ladon was the only thing she could focus on, the only thing that would keep her from panicking if they did not find a way out of this.

The more the seconds passed, the edgier the horse dragon drew and she began drawing circles around Ladon, trying to spy out a way around the black wall, to no avail however. “Ladon, what do we do? What can we do?” Abraxas was a tad surprised however had her still rather steady sounding voice; she had imagined it would be all high-pitched by now but it wasn’t the case. “This is seriously creepy,” she muttered as she was circling the magpie dragon once again, still seeing nothing but darkness all around them.

He looked around, and there was the monster, dead and floating on the surface of the lake. He hurried towards the direction of the forest, the fog he saw mere minutes ago, is now as hard as a brick wall. He started looking for a way in, somewhere he can get the dragons out.

He again smelled something burning, and with a slash of his sword against the fog, he managed to cut through, enough for him to get in. Something in the back of his mind told him that whatever it is that causing all this mess was somewhere in the forest. He immediately started to look for his dragon and Abraxas, spotting them only seconds later.

“Ladon?!” Abraxas voice grew more urgent now, the higher pitch she had missed merely seconds earlier now slowly sneaking its way in. The magpie dragon’s silence was unnerving and she didn’t know what to think of it. Was he paralysed? Had he not heard her? Were they not able to communicate anymore with all this black fog floating about them, seeming to close in on them whenever they were not directly looking at it. Or was she simply going nuts?

“Ladon!” she tried again, this time a little louder and closer to his ear. “What is happening to us?” Glueing her ears to her neck almost, the horse dragon forced herself to keep flapping her wings to stay aloft, somehow thinking that if she touched the ground, she’d be lost for good, though how she knew she did not know, or if that was actually true or just an illusion on her behalf, she did not know either. It was unsettling either way and Abraxas was trembling all over.

When all of a sudden a slashing sound broke through the unnatural silence amid the fog, Abraxas’ head immediately swiveled into the direction of the sound, her eyes wide open in expectence of an attack. However, the sight that presented itself was as much a relief as a shock. “Silver!” She was glad to see him well, or at least somewhat, and that he was with them now; however, he was stuck in here with them now too, was he not? There was no way out! It was then that Abraxas’ brain seemed to kick in again: if Silver had managed to come to this side of that damned black wall, then maybe he was going to be able to get them back to the outer side where he had just come from? A spark of hope, finally!

Ladon was just about to ask Abraxas to keep her voice low when he suddenly spotted Silver walking towards them. He noticed the way that the rider cut through the thick fog, that meant that he was right! Something is definitely going on, and it can't be good to stick around for long and find out what is going to happen, or why.

Silver headed towards them, Keep quiet and don't wander away, it is better if we stay in a group. He instructed, his footsteps cannot be heard as he headed for the center of the forest, guided by the feeling he always has and learned to trust while hunting for demons.

The horse dragon was starting to shake a little from the exhausting motion of having to fly around the same spot or even simply hover. It was far more tiring than flying at higher speed for a longer time. She was about to open her mouth once more when Silver told them to be as quiet as possible and stay together, thus Abraxas closed her mouth again, having to force herself to bite down any comments or possible retorts. Hadn’t he been the one to simply go slaying a monster by himself?

Without hesitating however, she followed his advice and kept herself close to the shadowhunter and his dragon, not wanting to get split up now anyways. She couldn’t imagine that being by herself in such a scary situation would do any good to her sanity, especially not when that voice was still whispering in her head. However, now with her being a little soothed since the human had returned to them, the voice was breaking through much easier again now. Its tone more demanding now and growing somewhat louder the closer they seemed to come to the center of the forest. It was very hard to resist the temptation and do what it asked, making the horse dragon wonder how long this would last, or who it belonged to.

Silvery eyes narrowed as he got closer to where his instincts guided him. The water which was still dripping from his hair and onto the branches of the trees didn't even make the slightest sound. It seemed that everything was dead, swallowed by the sense of danger getting closer.

His eyes baring a sharsh gaze and murderous intents. He could smell the stench of the demon's blood from where he was standing, no one else, not even the dragons could smell it.

Sheathing his sword, he held the bow, ready for anything. He preferred a close range combat, but he want going to risk it with the dragons around. Who knew what the demon wanted, it was clearly related with the dragons, if he went through all the trouble of blocking the forest from the rest of the world.

Following closely on Silver’s heels, though still aloft, Abraxas wondered where he was leading them, if not closer to the danger. With every flap of her wings she took the more her fur was standing on edge and the more she wanted to refuse to go on any further. Yet the fear to be cut off from the other two was greater than her fear to keep going. The uneasiness of not knowing what was going on was making it hard to breathe as well. The forest seemed almost normal, if it wasn’t for the lack of noise and the black fog covering everything.

Silver stacked through the forest like a predator and it made the horse dragon curiously aware of the fact that being a shadowhunter he was probably quite experienced in this sort of thing. In fact, he seemed to know exactly what this might be and Ladon’s apparent coolness could only confirm this thought. Abraxas dearly wished she knew herself what the purpose of all of this was but she couldn’t find an explanation. Though suddenly Silver’s earlier remark hit home, that something was coming for a horse dragon, which could only be her.

A bolt of fear was surging through her and instinctively she sought out the protective closeness of whatever could protect her, which in this case was Silver and Ladon. Seeing that Ladon was the only one in the air, Abraxas made for him and in her eagerness to be close to him, almost rammed him. She gave him an apologetic look but all of a sudden, the voice in her head grew louder, making it impossible to be ignored and Abraxas simply had to follow it. Thus, she dashed forwards, deeper into the forest and towards whatever it was that was calling for her, awaiting her.

As the horse dragon dashed forward, Silver's form blurred and appeared infront of her mere seconds later. Staring straing in her eyes, his voice drifted softly in her mind, blocking the other voice, and soothing her nerves. That voice you're hearing is not real. It is not what it seem, stay back. His gaze softened a little, afraid that she might get hurt. He couldn't live with that.

Ladon looked down at the two, and decided to join them. What now? He asked, still trying to figure out what kind of danger they're facing. When Silver shook his head, he knew it wasn't something pleasant. A demon.

Abraxas had barely touched onto the ground to sprint along the forest floor towards the voice when Silver suddenly appeared in front of her. Instinctively, she jolted back and stopped running forwards. There was something about him that was mysterious, yet unnerving at the same time, though she believed him when his voice penetrated through into her mind, pushing away the other one, which immediately tried to fight Silver and grew angry. Yet it was no match for the shadowhunter and the horse dragon soon calmed down a little, tears almost welling up in her eyes. She didn’t know what to do and she was scared. There was something powerful out there, something that could very easily and very quickly take a hold of her and she didn’t like to be so very vulnerable. Getting herself into a mess was standard and she usually always found a way out of it even if there was no one around to give her a hand or even rescue her. But this, this was so very different.

“What does it want from me, Silver?” Abraxas asked, shaking her head. “I don’t understand.” Defeat was almost creeping into her voice at this, and she was on the brink of turning around and fleeing, except that behind them was a wall of black fog and she wouldn’t be able to get through. Picking up some of her courage again, she lifted her head back up a little, though her gaze never left Silver’s eyes as he tried to soothe her.

Silver shook his head, I do not know, but you're not alone in this. I think we are about to find out. they continued their way, until the Shadowhunter asked them to stop . Wait for my signal. And with that, he vanished like he wasn't standing in that branch mere seconds ago.

Ladon tried to ease the tension in the air, He really needs to do something about vanishing like that all the time. Some people will surely think he's not human. I'll admit, sometimes it catches me off guard...

It was definitely anything but assuring that Silver did not have a reply to Abraxas’ question but she was desperately trying not to let this affect her. She had to get a grip, very much so, because her behaviour was starting to be ridiculous, she was not a wuss after all, yet she was behaving like a newly hatched dragon facing the razor sharp claws of a tribal battleblood dragon. Yet, having to wait for Silver’s signal, once again left alone with Ladon and tapping in the dark – literally – without any idea as to what was going to happen, was not making things any easier on the horse dragon. The voice was still somewhere in the back of her mind and she could feel its tingling presence, even though it remained quiet for the time being.

Ladon’s attempt at lighting the mood was thus very welcome indeed and Abraxas allowed herself a chuckle at his words. “He does indeed seem to love disappearing into thin air like that.” Shaking her head, she looked at Ladon and purely for the sake of distracting herself, she asked: “How is he even able to do this?” She had never before come across a human that seemed to be able to almost.. teleport, if that was the correct way of phrasing it; the horse dragon couldn’t be sure, maybe there were different categories. It was a trivial matter and not at all important for the situation at hand but at least it kept her mind occupied, which was the basic goal of the whole exercise anyway.

Ladon shrugged, Shadowhunters are weird like that. Some talks say that they have angels' blood running through their vines. Although I have been around so many for so long, it is still a mystery to me. They only have the answers to the questions that whoever was lucky to have heard if them ask - no one else.

When we get our of this, maybe you could ask Silver. Who knows? He might be in a good mood and answer some questions for a change. He said with a smile, trying to keep the other dragon busy.

After a while which almost seemed like an eternity in that darkness, a high pitched whistle echoed in the silent forest. Ladon tensed immediately, Stay close, that is our signal. With that, he made for the source of the sound.

“Angel’s blood? Really?” It came as a bit of a surprise to the horse dragon that someone called a shadowhunter might have the blood of an angel running through his veins, but then again, nothing seemed to be truly impossible, so it might just as well be true. “They seem to be a rather particular bunch,” Abraxas mused, her impression of Silver only confirmed by this. He didn’t seem to be very fond of explaining anything about himself, at least not during the short time she had known him, and Ladon’s words only proved this right. After all the magpie dragon was his constant companion, or at least that’s what she figured, Silver being his rider.

She was about to question Ladon a little more but at the sound of the whistle, she immediately picked up her hooves and followed the magpie dragon through the forest towards where the sound had come from, which was somewhat unnerving again. However, she did feel much better and calmer now than she had only minutes before. Ladon’s distraction had worked wonders after Silver had gotten rid of that voice in her head, at least for the time being.

The wall of black seemed to be advancing with them, or maybe that was just an illusion, yet whenever the horse dragon looked back over her shoulder, the fog didn’t seem to be further away than it had been earlier. Were they walking through neverending fog or was it moving along with them? She couldn’t tell but it was definitely weird. However, they had to concentrate on what they might stumble in upon now instead of on what was lying behind them. Thus, Abraxas took a deep breath and stared straight ahead, straining her eyes to get a view of might lie behind that darkness.

The fog seemed to get thicker as the two dragons made their way to the center of the forest, making in harder to breath. Sliver was crouching on the ground below, in front of him was a creature with three ugly, twisted horns. An arrow planted in it's side, and another in it's leg.

The red eyes and unmistakable stench assaulted Ladon's senses. The creature was staring right back at the dragon, while Silver stayed still, not moving an inch. Ladon noticed that his rider gave up using his bow and went for his favorite weapon. The black sword had an equally black hilt, small silver lines making out the body of two ravens, with a diamond for their eyes.

Strange enough, the sword was glowing and casting weird shadows on their surrounding - or that's what Ladon thought he saw-
